It has been a tradition to organize very successful UNESCO Postgraduate Courses on Geochemical Prospecting Methods in the former Czechoslovakia from mid 70‘s. The first certificated course-GEOCHIM PRAHA UNESCO 1975 was launched on September 5, 1975 and lasted till October 25,1975. Since that time this course has been organized biannually by the Czech Geological Survey in Prague together with the Dionyz SEtúr Geological Survey in Bratislava and sponsored by the Division of Earth Sciences (UNESCO/Paris) and the International Association of Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry (IAGS). The course was specialized on both theoretical and practical training in classical geochemical prospecting methods.  相似文献

Because of the importance of geological factors on health an International Working Group on Medical Geology was established in 1998, with the primary aim of increasing awareness of this issue among scientists, medical specialists, and the general public. In 2000 a new project was established by UNESCO. The primary aim of the projects was to bring together, on a global scale, scientists working in this field in developing countries with their colleagues in other parts of the world. The International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU) also sponsored international short courses in this subject, a cooperation involving The Geological Survey of Sweden, US Geological Survey and the US Armed Forces of Pathology. In 2006 a new association was established: International Medical Geology Association, IMGA. Regional Divisions all over the world have been established. Two text books have been published, the most recent one by Elsevier 2005: Essentials of Medical Geology which has received two prestigious international awards. A website ( http://www.medicalgeology.org ) and regular newsletters have been published. Short courses on medical geology, have been held since 2001 in more than 30 countries. Medical geology will also be one of the ten main topics within the Year of Planet Earth declared by UN General Assembly December 22, 2005. Medical geology is also one of the five topics within the GeoUnion initiative. The international impact has been tremendous. Universities all around the world are starting courses and education in medical geology, the first centers are under construction, symposias have been held and a world wide collaboration has started between geoscientists, environmental researchers, epidemiologists, toxicologists, pathologists and other scientists.  相似文献

In 2007,the U.S.Geological Survey,the Geological Survey of Canada,and the Mexican Geological Survey initiated a low-density(1 site per 1600 km2,13323 sites) geochemical and mineralogical survey of North American soils(North American Soil Geochemical Landscapes Project).Sampling and analytical protocols were developed at a series of workshops in 2003-2004 and pilot studies were conducted from 2004-2007.The ideal sampling protocol at each site includes a sample from 0-5 cm depth,a composite of the soil A horizon,and a sample from the soil C horizon.The <2-mm fraction of each sample is analyzed for Al,Ca,Fe,K,Mg,Na,S,Ti,Ag,Ba,Be,Bi,Cd,Ce,Co,Cr,Cs,Cu,Ga,In,La,Li,Mn,Mo,Nb,Ni,P,Pb,Rb,Sb,Sc,Sn,Sr,Te,Th,Tl,U,V,W,Y,and Zn by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry following a near-total digestion in a mixture of HCl,HNO3,HClO4,and HF.Separate methods are used for As,Hg,Se,and total C on this same size fraction.The major mineralogical components are determined by a quantitative X-ray diffraction method.Sampling in the conterminous U.S.was completed in 2010(c.4800 sites) with chemical and mineralogical analysis currently underway.In Mexico,approximately 66% of the sampling(871 sites) had been done by the end of 2010 with completion expected in 2012.After completing sampling in the Maritime provinces and portions of other provinces(472 sites,7.6% of the total),Canada withdrew from the project in 2010.Preliminary results for a swath from the central U.S.to Florida clearly show the effects of soil parent material and climate on the chemical and mineralogical composition of soils.A sample archive will be established and made available for future investigations.  相似文献

The China Geological Survey carried out 1:250000 regional geological surveys of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from 1999 to 2005.With a total investment of 300 million yuan,more than 1000 geologists were involved annually to conduct mapping at a grid of one line to every four km along the Kunlun Mts-Altyn Shan-Tanggula Shan,Kokoxili-Qiangtang,Gangdese,Yalun Zangbu River,and finally to the Himalayan ranges.The extensive mapping culminated in a total of 112maps covering an area of 152 square kilometers.Based on this success,the China Geological Survey launched another program,the "Integration and Comprehensive Study of Basic Geological Survey Result(s) in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau".The program lasted from 2006 to 2010 and has yielded copious research results,making big strides in upgrading our understanding of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.The achievements are manifold.  相似文献

The latest Cretaceous strata of the Jiaolai Basin were studied in two scientific cores,including LK-1 drilled by the Institute of Geology,Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences(Li et al.,2018;Li et al.,2020),and JK-1 drilled by the Shandong Institute of the Geological Survey and Institute of Geology,Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences(Xu et al.,2017).However,outcrop sections were poorly studied,and the latest Cretaceous charophyte flora in particular had not previously been adequately documented from outcrops in the Jiaolai area.  相似文献

Gas Hydrates in the Qilian Mountain Permafrost, Qinghai, Northwest China   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Qilian Mountain permafrost, with area about 10×104 km2, locates in the north of Qinghai-Tibet plateau. It equips with perfect conditions and has great prospecting potential for gas hydrate. The Scientific Drilling Project of Gas Hydrate in Qilian Mountain permafrost, which locates in Juhugeng of Muri Coalfield, Tianjun County, Qinghai Province, has been implemented by China Geological Survey in 2008–2009. Four scientific drilling wells have been completed with a total footage of 2059.13 m. Samples of gas hydrate are collected separately from holes DK-1, DK-2 and DK-3. Gas hydrate is hosted under permafrost zone in the 133–396 m interval. The sample is white crystal and easily burning. Anomaly low temperature has been identified by the infrared camera. The gas hydrate-bearing cores strongly bubble in the water. Gas-bubble and water-drop are emitted from the hydrate-bearing cores and then characteristic of honeycombed structure is left. The typical spectrum curve of gas hydrate is detected using Raman spectrometry. Furthermore, the logging profile also indicates high electrical resistivity and sonic velocity. Gas hydrate in Qilian Mountain is characterized by a thinner permafrost zone, shallower buried depth, more complex gas component and coal-bed methane origin etc.  相似文献

Myth and geology     
I dare say many geologists may wonder why the Geological Society would be publishing a book on such a topic. Surely geology has advanced well beyond the stage of myth! But the field is now quite 'respectable' and the papers in this volume grow from a session held at the International Geological Congress in Florence in 2004. The field of geology and myth was founded virtually single handed by Dorothy Vitaliano in her Legends of the Earth (1973) and she gave the keynote address at the Florence meeting.  相似文献

Preliminary Study on the Isotopic Age of Metamorphism and Anatexis of the Fuping Group of the Environs of Xiaojue, Pingshan County, Hebei Province CHENG Yuqi, WAN Yusheng and GAO Jifeng(Geological Institute, Chinese Academy Geological Sciences, Beijing, 100037) Part of the metamorphic rocks of the Early Precambrian Fuping Group of the study area have been subjected to differential anatexis shortly after the climax of regional metamorphism. Isotopic age studies of the zircons from both the metamorphic rocks and their anatectic derivatives by the single crystal U-Pb method have been carried out by the authors. The upper intercept age of the U-Pb concordia has been interpreted as the age of metamorphism or anatexis of the samples concerned. The results of the isotopic determination of zircons from the samples of three different rock types collected near Xiaojue and in the area further east(Fig. 1) give the age of regional metamor-  相似文献
