Several long-range seismic profiles were carried out in Russia with Peaceful Nuclear Explosions (PNE). The data from 25 PNEs recorded along these profiles were used to compile a 3-D upper mantle velocity model for the central part of the Northern Eurasia. 2-D crust and upper mantle models were also constructed for all profiles using a common methodology for wavefield interpretation. Five basic boundaries were traced over the study area: N1 boundary (velocity level, V = 8.35 km/s; depth interval, D = 60–130 km), N2 (V = 8.4 km/s; D = 100–140 km), L (V = 8.5 km/s; D = 180–240 km) and H (V = 8.6 km/s; D = 300–330 km) and structural maps were compiled for each boundary. Together these boundaries describe a 3-D upper mantle model for northern Eurasia. A map characterised the velocity distribution in the uppermost mantle down to a depth of 60 km is also presented. Mostly horizontal inhomogeneity is observed in the uppermost mantle, and the velocities range from the average 8.0–8.1 km/s to 8.3–8.4 km/s in some blocks of the Siberian Craton. At a depth of 100–200 km, the local high velocity blocks disappear and only three large anomalies are observed: lower velocities in West Siberia and higher velocities in the East-European platform and in the central part of the Siberian Craton. In contrast, the depths to the H boundary are greater beneath the craton and lower beneath in the West Siberian Platform. A correlation between tectonics, geophysical fields and crustal structure is observed. In general, the old and cold cratons have higher velocities in the mantle than the young platforms with higher heat flows.Structural peculiarities of the upper mantle are difficult to describe in form of classical lithosphere–asthenosphere system. The asthenosphere cannot be traced from the seismic data; in contrary the lithosphere is suggested to be rheologically stratified. All the lithospheric boundaries are not simple discontinuities, they are heterogeneous (thin layering) zones which generate multiphase reflections. Many of them may be a result of fluids concentrated at some critical PT conditions which produce rheologically weak zones. The most visible rheological variations are observed at depths of around 100 and 250 km.  相似文献

Based on the simultaneous inversion of unique ultralong-range seismic profiles Craton, Kimberlite, Meteorite, and Rift, sourced by peaceful nuclear and chemical explosions, and petrological and geochemical data on the composition of xenoliths of garnet peridotite and fertile primitive mantle material, the first reconstruction was obtained for the thermal state and density of the lithospheric mantle of the Siberian craton at depths of 100–300 km accounting for the effects of phase transformation, anharmonicity, and anelasticity. The upper mantle beneath Siberia is characterized by significant variations in seismic velocities, relief of seismic boundaries, degree of layering, and distribution of temperature and density. The mapping of the present-day lateral and vertical variations in the thermal state of the mantle showed that temperatures in the central part of the craton at depths of 100–200 km are somewhat lower than those at the periphery and 300–400°C lower than the mean temperature of tectonically younger mantle surrounding the craton. The temperature profiles derived from the seismic models lie between the 32.5 and 35 mW/m2 conductive geotherms, and the mantle heat flow was estimated as 11–17 mW/m2. The depth of the base of the cratonic thermal lithosphere (thermal boundary layer) is close to the 1450 ± 100°C isotherm at 300 ± 30 km, which is consistent with published heat flow, thermobarometry, and seismic tomography data. It was shown that the density distribution in the Siberian cratonic mantle cannot be described by a single homogeneous composition, either depleted or enriched. In addition to thermal anomalies, the mantle density heterogeneities must be related to variations in chemical composition with depth. This implies significant fertilization at depths greater than 180–200 km and is compatible with the existence of chemical stratification in the lithospheric mantle of the craton. In the asthenosphere-lithosphere transition zone, the craton root material is not very different in chemical composition, thermal regime, and density from the underlying asthenosphere. It was shown that minor variations in the chemical composition of the cratonic mantle and position of chemical (petrological) boundaries and the lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary cannot be reliably determined from the interpretation of seismic velocity models only.  相似文献

The key features in the distribution of geoelectric and velocity heterogeneities in the Earth’s crust and the upper mantle of Kamchatka are considered according to the data of deep magnetotelluric sounding and seismotomography. Their possible origin is discussed based on the combined analysis of electric conductivity and seismic velocity anomalies. The geoelectric model contains a crustal conducting layer at a depth of 15–35 km extending along the middle part of Kamchatka. In the Central Kamchatka volcanic belt, the layer is close to the ground surface to a depth of 15–20 km, where its conductivity considerably increases. Horizontal conducting zones with a width of up to 50 km extending into the Pacific Ocean are revealed in the lithosphere of eastern Kamchatka. The large centers of current volcanism are confined to the projections of the horizontal zones. The upper mantle contains an asthenospheric conducting layer that rises from a depth of 150 km in western Kamchatka to a depth of 70–80 km beneath the zone of current volcanism. According to the seismotographic data, the low- and high-seismic-velocity anomalies of P-waves that reflect lateral stratification, which includes the crust, the rigid part of the upper mantle, the asthenospheric layer in a depth range of ~70–130 km, and a high-velocity layer confined to a seismofocal zone, are identified on the vertical and horizontal cross sections of eastern Kamchatka. The cross sections show low-velocity anomalies, which, in the majority of cases, correspond to the high-conductivity anomalies caused by the increased porosity of rocks saturated with liquid fluids. However, there are also differences that are related to the electric conductivity of rocks depending on pore channels filled with liquid fluids making throughways for electric current. The seismic velocity depends, to a great extent, on the total porosity of the rocks, which also includes isolated and dead-end channels that can be filled with liquid fluids that do not contribute to the electric-current transfer. The data on electric conductivity and seismic velocity are used to estimate the porosity of the rocks in the anomalous zones of the Earth’s crust and the upper mantle that are characterized by high electric conductivity and low seismic velocity. This estimate serves as the basis for identifying the zones of partial melting in the lithosphere and the asthenosphere feeding the active volcanoes.  相似文献

The investigation data on seismic wave attenuation in the lithosphere and upper mantle of the northeastern flank of the Baikal rift system obtained with a seismic coda envelope and sliding window are considered. Eleven local districts were described by one-dimensional attenuation models characterized by alternation of high and low attenuation layers, which are consistent with the results obtained previously by Yu.F. Kopnichev for the southwestern flank of the Baikal rift system [9]. The subcrust of the lithosphere contains a thin layer with high attenuation of seismic waves likely related to higher heterogeneity (fragmentation) and occurrence of fluids. The lithosphere basement depth varies from 100–120 km in the west within the Baikal folded area to 120–140 km in the east within the Siberian Platform. It is concluded that there are two asthenosphere layers. Based on specific features of the lithosphere and upper mantle structure, it can be assumed that they were subject to gradual modification involving fluidization processes and partial melting in the Late Cenozoic extension under the influence of distant tectogenesis sources.  相似文献

A seismic survey with a receiver spacing of 50 m provided one of the most densely sampled wide-angle seismic reflection images of the lithosphere. This unique data set, recorded by an 18-km-long spread, reveals that at wide-angles the shallow subcrustal mantle features high amplitude reflectivity which contrasts with a lack of reflectivity at latter travel times. This change in the seismic signature is located at approximately 120–150 km depth, which correlates with the depth estimates of the lithosphere–asthenosphere boundary (LAB) of previous DSS studies. This seismic signature can be simulated by two-layer mantle model. Both layers with similar average velocities differ in their degree of heterogeneity. The shallow heterogeneous layer and the deeper and more homogeneous one correlate with the lithosphere and the asthenosphere, respectively. Studies involving surface outcrops of ultramafic massifs and mantle xenoliths infer that the upper mantle is a heterogeneous mixture of ultramafic rocks (lherzolites, harzburgites, pyroxenites, peridotites, dunites, and small amounts of eclogites). Laboratory measurements of physical properties of these mantle rocks indicate that compositional variations alone can account for the wide-angle reflectivity. A temperature increase would homogenize the mixture, decreasing the seismic reflection properties due to melting processes. It is proposed that this would take place below 120–150 km (1200 °C, the LAB).  相似文献

Seismic imaging of lithospheric discontinuities and continental evolution   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1

Discontinuities in physical properties within the continental lithosphere reflect a range of processes that have contributed to craton stabilization and evolution. A survey of recent seismological studies concerning lithospheric discontinuities is made in an attempt to document their essential characteristics. Results from long-period seismology are inconsistent with the presence of continuous, laterally invariant, isotropic boundaries within the upper mantle at the global scale. At regional scales, two well-defined interfaces termed H (60 km depth) and L (200 km depth) of continental affinity are identified, with the latter boundary generally exhibiting an anisotropic character. Long-range refraction profiles are frequently characterized by subcontinental mantle that exhibits a complex stratification within the top 200 km. The shallow layering of this package can behave as an imperfect waveguide giving rise to the so-called teleseismic Pn phase, while the L-discontinuity may define its lower base as the culmination of a low velocity zone. High-resolution, seismic reflection profiling provides sufficient detail in a number of cases to document the merging of mantle interfaces into lower continental crust below former collisional sutures and magmatic arcs, thus unambiguously identifying some lithospheric discontinuities with thrust faults and subducted oceanic lithosphere. Collectively, these and other seismic observations point to a continental lithosphere whose internal structure is dominated by a laterally variable, subhorizontal layering. This stratigraphy appears to be more pronounced at shallower lithospheric levels, includes dense, anisotropic layers of order 10 km in thickness, and exhibits horizontal correlation lengths comparable to the lateral dimensions of overlying crustal blocks. A model of craton evolution which relies on shallow subduction as a principal agent of craton stabilization is shown to be broadly compatible with these characteristics.  相似文献

A method is proposed for determining the temperature of the Earth’s upper mantle from geochemical and seismic data. The data are made consistent by physicochemical simulations, which enable one to derive physical characteristics from geochemical compositional models (direct problem) and to convert seismic velocity profiles into model for the temperature distribution (inverse problem). The methods were used to simulate temperature distribution profiles in the “normal” and “cold” mantle on the basis of profiles for the velocities of P and S waves in the IASP91 model and regional models for the Kaapvaal craton. The constraints assumed for the chemical composition included the depleted material of garnet peridotites and the fertile primitive mantle. The conversion of seismic into thermal profiles was conducted by minimizing the Gibbs free energy with the use of equations of state for the mantle material with regard for anharmonicity and the effects of inelasticity. The sensitivity of the model to the chemical composition and its importance in application to the solution of inverse problems is demonstrated. Temperature profiles derived from the IASP91 and some regional models for depths of 200–210 km display an inflection on geotherms toward decreasing temperatures, which is physically senseless. This anomaly cannot be related to either the presence of volatiles or the occurrence of partial melting, because both of them should have resulted in a decrease, but not an increase, in the seismic velocities. Temperature inversion can be ruled out by the gradual fertilization of the mantle with depth. In this situation, the upper mantle material at depths of 200–300 km should be enriched in FeO, Al2O3, and CaO relative to garnet peridotites and be simultaneously depleted in these oxides relative to the pyrolite material of the primitive mantle. It can be generally concluded that both the lithosphere and sublithospheric mantle of the Kaapvaal craton, as well as the normal mantle, should be chemically stratified.  相似文献

The heterogeneous upper mantle low velocity zone   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:2
The upper mantle low velocity zone (LVZ) is a depth interval with slightly reduced seismic velocity compared to the surrounding depth intervals. The zone is present below a relatively constant depth of 100 km in most continental parts of the world, both in cratonic areas with high average velocity and tectonically active areas with low average velocity. Evidence for the low velocity zone arises from controlled and natural source seismology, including studies of surface waves and of primary and multiple reflections of body waves from the bounding interfaces, calculations of receiver functions, and absolute velocity tomography. The available data indicates a more pronounced reduction in seismic velocity and Q-value for S-waves than P-waves as well as high electrical conductivity in the LVZ. Seismic waves are strongly scattered by the zone, which demonstrates the existence of small-scale heterogeneity. The depth to the base of the LVZ is systematically shallower in cold, stable cratonic areas than in hot, active regions of the world. Because of its global occurrence below a relative constant depth of 100 km, the LVZ cannot be explained by metamorphic or compositional variation and rheological changes. Calculated upper mantle temperatures indicate that the rocks are close to the solidus in an interval with variable thickness below 100 km depth, provided that the rocks contain water and carbon dioxide. The presence of, even small amounts of such fluids in the mantle rocks will lower the solidus by several hundred degrees and introduce a characteristic kink on the solidus curve around 80–100 km depth. The seismic velocities and Q-values are significantly reduced of rocks, which are close to the solidus or contain small amounts of partial melt. Hence, the LVZ may be explained by upper mantle temperatures being close to the solidus in a depth interval below 100 km. Assuming that the rocks contain only limited amounts of fluids, this mechanism may explain the low velocities, Q-values, and resistivity, as well as the intrinsic scattering, and the characteristic variation in thickness of the low velocity zone.  相似文献

The Wadati–Benioff Zone (WBZ) is an approximate plane defined by earthquakes hypocentres observed in convergent plate boundaries and that usually dips at angles greater than 30°. In some areas of the Andes, where there are gaps in volcanic activity, and where heat flow is abnormally low, this plane in most studies has nearly horizontal dip at a depth of about 75–100 km, and it has been associated to flat subduction of the oceanic lithosphere. This situation has been taken as the present-day analogue of the Laramide orogeny of western North America for which a ‘flat-slab’ episode has been proposed in the past years. In this work, the observed low heat flow in areas of the Andes is assumed to be due to low radiogenic heat generation in geologically old and allochthonous terranes constituting large regions of western South America. On the basis of geotherms obtained for areas of Ecuador, Peru, Chile and Argentina, and of rheological results describing the partition between brittle and ductile regimes, the seismic activity observed both in the lower crust and at depths of about 75–100 km is thoroughly explained. At these depths, earthquakes occur within the subcontinental upper mantle, and then there is no flat WBZ associated to subduction of the oceanic lithosphere. There is evidence from recent seismological observations that the real WBZ lies not horizontally and deeper in the tectonosphere.  相似文献

In February 1978 seismic-refraction profiles were recorded by the U.S. Geological Survey along a 1000 km line across the Arabian Shield in western Saudi Arabia. This report presents a traveltime and relative amplitude study in the form of velocity-depth functions for each individual profile assuming horizontally flat layering. The corresponding cross section of the lithosphere showing lines of equal velocity reaches to a depth of 60–80 km.The crust thickens abruptly from 15 km beneath the Red Sea Rift to about 40 km beneath the Arabian Shield. The upper crust of the western Arabian Shield yields relatively high-velocity material at about 10 km depth underlain by velocity inversions, while the upper crust of the eastern Shield is relatively uniform. The lower crust with a velocity of about 7 km/s is underlain by a transitional crust-mantle boundary. For the lower lithosphere beneath 40 km depth the data indicate the existence of a laterally discontinuous lamellar structure where high-velocity zones are intermixed with zones of lower velocities. Beneath the crust-mantle boundary of the Red Sea rift most probably strong velocity inversions exist. Here, the data do not allow a detailed modelling, velocities as low as 6.0 km/s seem to be encountered between 25 and 44 km depth.  相似文献

Teleseismic P arrivals at seismological stations are inverted into a model of velocity perturbations down to a depth of about 470 km. Directionally independent average residuals, computed from steeply inciding waves, are transformed into a model of lithospheric thickness. Both models show a good correspondence with the main tectonic features of the Italian Peninsula. Positive velocity perturbations are observed beneath the Alps and in depths over 200 km also beneath the Po Basin. A high-velocity anomaly of the Tyrrhenian subduction is less pronounced, probably due to a directional dependence of P velocities in the mantle. Negative velocity perturbations indicate several low-velocity regions, e.g. beneath the Northern Apennines, the Sicily region and in the upper 100 km beneath the Po Basin. The amplitudes of velocity perturbations beneath the depth of 200 km are smaller on the average than those in the upper two layers. The whole region is characterized by large undulations of the lithosphere base which reaches depths from less than 60 km to more than 150 km. The most prominent lithospheric root beneath the Alps is a product of the collision between the European and the Adriatic plates while the lithospheric thickening beneath the Calabrian coast is likely to be connected with the eastern wing of the Tyrrhenian subduction. The dramatic changes of lithosphere thickness between the northern and the southern Apenninic arcs and northern Calabria as well as the thinnings at the western closure of the Po Basin, indicate important deep-seated boundaries of lithospheric blocks of autonomous geodynamic development.

We present a new three-dimensional SV-wave velocity model for the upper mantle beneath South America and the surrounding oceans, built from the waveform inversion of 5850 Rayleigh wave seismograms. The dense path coverage and the use of higher modes to supplement the fundamental mode of surface waves allow us to constrain seismic heterogeneities with horizontal wavelengths of a few hundred kilometres in the uppermost 400 km of the mantle. The large scale features of our tomographic model confirm previous results from global and regional tomographic studies (e.g. the depth extent of the high velocity cratonic roots down to about 200–250 km).Several new features are highlighted in our model. Down to 100 km depth, the high velocity lid beneath the Amazonian craton is separated in two parts associated with the Guyana and Guapore shields, suggesting that the rifting episode responsible for the formation of the Amazon basin has involved a significant part of the lithosphere. Along the Andean subduction belt, the structure of the high velocity anomaly associated with the sudbduction of the Nazca plate beneath the South American plate reflects the along-strike variation in dip of the subducting plate. Slow velocities are observed down to about 100 km and 150 km at the intersection of the Carnegie and Chile ridges with the continent and are likely to represent the thermal anomalies associated with the subducted ridges. These lowered velocities might correspond to zones of weakness in the subducted plate and may have led to the formation of “slab windows” developed through unzipping of the subducted ridges; these windows might accommodate a transfer of asthenospheric mantle from the Pacific to the Atlantic ocean. From 150 to 250 km depth, the subducting Nazca plate is associated with high seismic velocities between 5°S and 37°S. We find high seismic velocities beneath the Paraná basin down to about 200 km depth, underlain by a low velocity anomaly in the depth range 200–400 km located beneath the Ponta Grossa arc at the southern tip of the basin. This high velocity anomaly is located southward of a narrow S-wave low velocity structure observed between 200 and 500–600 km depth in body wave studies, but irresolvable with our long period datasets. Both anomalies point to a model in which several, possibly diachronous, plumes have risen to the surface to generate the Paraná large igneous province (LIP).  相似文献

Cannikin atomic bomb recordings indicate that there are differences in travel-times from the Aleutian Islands test site to Phanerozoic and Precambrian provinces in Australia of up to 1.1 s. Explosion seismic studies in central and southeastern Australia enable travel-time corrections for crustal and upper mantle structure to be made to recordings of such teleseismic events. Structure in the upper 60 km can account for, at most, about 0.2 s of the residual difference, but attempts to constrain the remaining residual time to the region above the Lehmann discontinuity at about 200 km depth are difficult to reconcile with explosion seismic models. Regional differences in seismic velocity structure between Phanerozoic and Precambrian Australia therefore appear to exist at depths greater than 200 km.Electrical conductivities within the mantle have been investigated using two methods. Long-period electromagnetic depth sounding using magnetometer arrays demonstrates that conductivities increase at about 200 km under Phanerozoic Australia but not until about 500 km depth under Precambrian Australia. Shorter period magnetotelluric measurements can only resolve shallower structures; these too indicate a similar trend but with sub-crustal conductivities increasing at less than 100 km under Phanerozoic Australia. Magma at these depths and shallower may be the source for Cainozoic volcanism in eastern Australia. Under Precambrian central and northern Australia magnetotelluric investigations indicate that pronounced conductivity increases do not occur until depths of 150–200 km are reached.Oceanic magnetic observations indicate that the Australian lithospheric plate as a whole is separating from Antarctica at a rate of about 7 cm/yr. The seismic and conductivity structures under the continental region of this plate indicate that lateral inhomogeneities possibly extend to depths as great as 500 km and are probably caused by the passage of eastern Australia over a hot spot. Hawaiian studies indicate that hot spots are not local features but result from large scale disturbances in the mantle. Conductivity increases commencing in the depth range 100–250 km may give an indication of uppermost zones within which the Palaeozoic lithospherc has been substantially modified resulting in elevated surface heat flow, volcanism and seismic travel-time anomalies.  相似文献

The Mg-(Fe + Ti)-Al melting diagram for pyrolite based on experimental data from literature shows the composition of the liquid as a function of pressure and the degree of pyrolite melting. Three mechanisms of liquid separation from a mantle source material are discussed: (i) gravitational mechanism, which works at a degree of source material melting of 25%, (ii) filter pressing mechanism, which is efficient at degrees of melting lower than 2%, and (iii) nearly complete local melting of mantle material. Garnet in the solid residue is thought to play an important role by affecting the chemistries of mantle magmas. The comparison of petrochemical and experimental data in a Mg-(Fe + Ti)-Al ternary plot shows that picrite and ferropicrite alcaline primary magmas are segregated at depths of 120 and 210 km, respectively, in the garnet stability zone, at degrees of melting lower than 2%; and tholeiite basalt magmas are segregated above this zone. At degrees of melting of 25%, picrobasalt, komatiite-basalt, picrite, and ferropicrite primary magmas of the tholeiite series are derived at depths of 80, 130, 240, and 300 km, respectively. Ultrabasic komatiite magma is generated at high degrees of mantle source melting, with the solid residues devoid of garnet. The tholeiite basalt series can be produced by two parental melts: aluminous and magnesian basaltic, both separated from the mantle sources via the filter pressing mechanism: the former at depths shallower than 30 km in ocean spreading zones (TOR-2), and the latter at depths of 50?C60 km in oceanic spreading zones (TOR-1) and in the subcontinental lithosphere. Primary magnesian basalt magmas of the calc-alkaline and tholeiite series are derived in the lithospheric mantle at the same depths and low degrees of melting. Different evolutionary trajectories of compositionally similar primary magmas are controlled by the conditions of their further fractional crystallization: in compressional environments and with fluids saturating the melts in subduction zones for the former and in extensional environments and free magma ascent to the surface for the latter. Ultrapotassic rock series, such as lamprophyres, leucitites, kamafugites, lamproites, and kimberlites, are most probably generated via the melting of the metasomatized subcratonic mantle.  相似文献

It has been thought that granitic crust, having been formed on the surface, must have survived through the Earth’s evolution because of its buoyancy. At subduction zones continental crust is predominantly created by arc magmatism and is returned to the mantle via sediment subduction, subduction erosion, and continental subduction.Granitic rocks, the major constituent of the continental crust, are lighter than the mantle at depths shallower than 270 km,but we show here, based on first principles calculations, that beneath 270 km they have negative buoyancy compared to the surrounding material in the upper mantle and transition zone, and thus can be subducted in the depth range of 270-660 km.This suggests that there can be two reservoirs of granitic material in the Earth, one on the surface and the other at the base of the mantle transition zone(MTZ).The accumulated volume of subducted granitic material at the base of the MTZ might amount to about six times the present volume of the continental crust. Our calculations also show that the seismic velocities of granitic material in the depth range from 270 to 660 km are faster than those of the surrounding mantle. This could explain the anomalous seismic-wave velocities observed around 660 km depth. The observed seismic scatterers and reported splitting of the 660 km discontinuity could be due to jadeite dissociation, chemical discontinuities between granitic material and the surrounding mantle,or a combination thereof.  相似文献

The large-scale POLONAISE'97 seismic experiment investigated the velocity structure of the lithosphere in the Trans-European Suture Zone (TESZ) region between the Precambrian East European Craton (EEC) and Palaeozoic Platform (PP). In the area of the Polish Basin, the P-wave velocity is very low (Vp <6.1 km/s) down to depths of 15–20 km, and the consolidated basement (Vp5.7–5.8 km/s) is 5–12 km deep. The thickness of the crust is 30 km beneath the Palaeozoic Platform, 40–45 km beneath the TESZ, and 40–50 km beneath the EEC. The compressional wave velocity of the sub-Moho mantle is >8.25 km/s in the Palaeozoic Platform and 8.1 km/s in the Precambrian Platform. Good quality record sections were obtained to the longest offsets of about 600 km from the shot points, with clear first arrivals and later phases of waves reflected/refracted in the lower lithosphere. Two-dimensional interpretation of the reversed system of travel times constrains a series of reflectors in the depth range of 50–90 km. A seismic reflector appears as a general feature at around 10 km depth below Moho in the area, independent of the actual depth to the Moho and sub-Moho seismic velocity. “Ringing reflections” are explained by relatively small-scale heterogeneities beneath the depth interval from 90 to 110 km. Qualitative interpretation of the observed wave field shows a differentiation of the reflectivity in the lower lithosphere. The seismic reflectivity of the uppermost mantle is stronger beneath the Palaeozoic Platform and TESZ than the East European Platform. The deepest interpreted seismic reflector with zone of high reflectivity may mark a change in upper mantle structure from an upper zone characterised by seismic scatterers of small vertical dimension to a lower zone with vertically larger seismic scatterers, possible caused by inclusions of partial melt.  相似文献

Geological-petrological and geochemical data on subduction-related magmatism (including the volumes and compositions of the corresponding magmatic series) are compared to the results of experiments and numerical simulation. The subduction zone is subdivided into five depth sectors and volcanic zones I, II, and III: 1 is the accretionary wedge that controls the geodynamic stability of subduction; 2 is the sector of dehydration and fluid filtration; 3 is the zone of eclogitization and initial partial melting in the slab above which boninite volcanic zone I is formed during early stages; 4 is the main zone of melting of the sedimentary-basite layer and the development of volcanic zone II with the predominance of andesites; and 5 is the zone of higher degree melting, above which volcanic zone III (basaltic andesite and alkali basalt) is formed. The criterion of volcanism intensity, which was obtained within the scope of the melting model, is proportional to the subduction velocity and the thickness of the melting zone, and the distance between the groups of volcanics along the subduction zone is 75–100 km, at a thickness of the melting zone of 15–20 km. The calculated isotherm of 600°C, which controls the stability of serpentine and chlorite, is not identified at depth above 150 km, and this is confirmed by the composition and P-T conditions of the high-pressure rocks (containing diamond and coesite), which were brought from depths of 150–200 km in subduction zones. Seismic sections constructed with regard for the amplitude characteristics of seismic waves show two melting zones (“wet” melting at a depth of 100–200 km and “dry” melting at a depth of 150–200 km) and a complicated thermal structure of the suprasthenospheric wedge, which can include slant magma conduits. The mineralogical and geochemical features of arc magmatic series are formed at a decisive role of an H2O-CO2 fluid and an elevated oxidation potential. The predominant buffer minerals are as follows: garnet in the slab melting zone; magnetite, Ca-pyroxene, and amphibole in intermediate magmatic chambers; and amphibole, protoenstatite-bronzite (in place of olivine), and Cr-spinel (in place of magnetite) for boninite series generated in a “hot” asthenospheric wedge at interaction with fluids or water-rich melts. Actively disputable problems are the interactions scale of melts and fluids generated in a subduction zone with a “hot” mantle wedge, the possibility of transporting water-rich minerals deep into the mantle (to depths greater than 150 km), and the evolution of the scale at which young continental crust is generated by subduction melts.  相似文献

Modeling of the seismic, thermal, and density structure of the Siberian craton lithospheric mantle at depths of 100-300 km has been performed along the superlong Meteorite and Rift seismic profiles. The 2D velocity sections reflect the specific features of the internal structure of the craton: lateral inhomogeneities, seismic-boundary relief at depths of ~ 100, 150, 240, and 300 km, velocities of 8.3-8.7 km/s, and the lack of low-velocity zone in the lower lithosphere. Mapping of the thermal state along the Meteorite and Rift profiles shows a significant temperature decrease in the cratonic mantle as compared with the average temperatures of the surrounding Phanerozoic mantle (> 300 °C) estimated from the global reference model AK135. Lateral temperature variations, reflecting the thermal anomalies in the cratonic keel, are observed at depths of < 200 km (with some decrease in temperature in the central part of the craton), whereas at depths of > 200 km, temperature variations are negligible. This suggests the preservation of residual thermal perturbations at the base of the lithosphere, which must lead to the temperature equalization in the transition zone between the lithosphere and the asthenosphere. Variations in chemical composition have a negligible effect on the thermal state but affect strongly the density structure of the mantle. The results of modeling admit a significant fertilization of matter at depths more than 180-200 km and stratification of the cratonic mantle by chemical composition. The thicknesses of chemical (petrologic) and thermal boundary layers beneath the Siberian craton are estimated. The petrologic lithosphere is localized at depths of ~ 200 km. The bottom of the thermal boundary layer is close to the 1450 °C isotherm and is localized at a depth of 300 km, which agrees with heat flow and seismic-tomography data.
