On the Earth and in its neighborhood, spherical harmonic analysis and synthesis are standard mathematical procedures for
scalar, vector and tensor fields. However, with the advent of multiresolution applications, additional considerations about
convolution filtering with decimation and dilation are required. As global applications often imply discrete observations
on regular grids, computational challenges arise and conflicting claims about spherical harmonic transforms have recently
appeared in the literature. Following an overview of general multiresolution analysis and synthesis, spherical harmonic transforms
are discussed for discrete global computations. For the necessary multi-rate filtering operations, spherical convolutions
along with decimations and dilations are discussed, with practical examples of applications. Concluding remarks are then included
for general applications, with some discussion of the computational complexity involved and the ongoing investigations in
research centers.

An ActiveX GPS control is presented which can be used to develop software applications with GPS functionality. It translates
the NMEA 0183 interface GPS instructions and triggers event procedures which are used by applications to access the GPS data.
It provides position data in the form of geographic coordinates as well as Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) projected coordinates.
This control is recommended for the development of general purpose GPS-enabled applications which do not require a high level
of accuracy. A Visual Basic project is also included to demonstrate the use of various features of this control. Finally,
some real-time software applications are discussed which have been developed using this control. These applications include
static point averaging; path tracking; and imagery-based position mapping. 相似文献

为了使GIS应用系统的开发可以在单一环境和工作流中进行,使用分布于网络上的任何地理数据和操作,消除地理信息应用之间及地理应用与其他信息技术应用之间的"鸿沟",建立一个无"边界"的、分布的、基于构件的地理数据互操作环境。采用Ajax技术设计并实现了基于OpenGIS的WebGIS客户端,提出了各项系统功能解决方案,通过局部刷新的方式来更新页面,减少了用户的等待时间,增强了用户体验。基于OpenGIS开发,使客户端能够访问任何符合OpenGIS规范的地图服务器,减轻了服务器压力,同时有利于数据共享。 相似文献

Digital elevation models (DEMs) resulting from LIDAR (light detection and ranging) surveys are now more available in the hydrology and hydraulics (H&H) community, not only for hydraulic applications in small areas close to river networks but also for hydrologic applications in whole basins. Several questions arise when trying to combine LIDAR data and hydrologic models. Despite the long processing time, LIDAR-derived DEMs can provide more accurate information that is useful for basin hydrogeomorphic characterization, in comparison with DEMs at resolutions commonly used in hydrologic applications (cell size 20-30 m). Of particular focus here are river network properties and the instantaneous unit hydrograph (IUH) framework. Two case studies, one in Italy and the other in the USA, are presented in which three DEMs are analyzed with differing resolutions as follows: "standard," i.e., a resolution commonly used in hydrologic applications (cell size 20-30 m), LIDAR (cell size 1-2.5 m), and LIDAR-resampled at the same resolution as the "standard" DEM. Results suggest that the higher spatial resolution LIDAR-derived data are preferable and can introduce more detailed information about basin hydrogeomorphic behavior. 相似文献

In recent years, the concepts of usability, user experience, and user-centricity have gained in interest. Digital applications, developed in line with criteria related to these approaches, ask for a deeper understanding of users and their requirements. But, even though there is a wide range of methods available, the creation of user-centric applications with good usability and user experience still poses great challenges for developers. This is also true for web maps, i.e. web map applications, which today are ubiquitous on the Internet. They have evolved into an important information and communication tool and address users who do not possess any specific knowledge of Geoinformatics (GI) or Cartography. Despite the efforts made to meet the requirements and preferences of laymen, these users still often face problems when dealing with web map applications. This refers to aspects of design, content, and functionality. Here, participatory design, which is well-known in the field of Software and Web Engineering, might provide a suitable means. By engaging users directly and actively in the application development process, developers are able to gain a profound understanding of the users and their needs. However, there are several open questions regarding the use of participatory design for designing and implementing web map applications: What does the use of participatory design in web map development processes look like in detail? How and to what degree can users be involved in the development processes? Which added values exist? These questions are addressed by the project YouthMap 5020, whose main goal it was to create a prototype youth-centric web map for the Austrian city of Salzburg (zip code 5020). Applying the approach of participatory design, about 120 teenage pupils from several local schools were involved in all kinds of tasks related to the phases of generating the youth-centric Salzburg web city map. Experience and knowledge gained thereby allowed elaborating recommendations generally useful for generating youth-centric web map applications. 相似文献
