A linear correlation between the ratio of the[CII( $^{\text{2}}$ P A linear correlation between the ratio of the[CII( P P )] line intensity to the [ CO(J:1 →0)] line emission, I /I and the equivalent width (EW) is found, over the range 2–71 ? in EW, for a sample of 21late-Type= galaxies. The latter is comprised of an optically selected sample of 12 normal Virgo Cluster spiral galaxies with [CII] detections obtained by us with ISOLWS, plus nine late-Type= galaxies with higher star formation rates (SFRs), for which [CII] data and, especially, EW data are available in the literature. As a result we infer I /I to be a reliable tracer of the current mass-normalized global SFR for non-starburst spiral galaxies. Moreover, the ratio of the [CII] line to the total far-infrared (FIR) continuum intensity, I /I , is found to decrease from ∼0.5% to ∼0.1% with decreasing SFR which we propose is due to a `[CII]-quiet' component of I from dust heated by the general interstellar radiation field (ISRF). The more `quiescent' galaxies in the sample have values of I /I different from those observed in `compact' Galactic interstellar regions. Their [CII]-emission is interpreted to be dominated by diffuse regions of the interstellar medium (ISM). For normal `star-forming' galaxies the diffuse component of the [CII] emission is estimated to account for at least 50% of the total. In a recent paper Ballersteros and Ragnisco (1998) have proposed a new method of constructing integrable Hamiltonian systems. A new class of integrable systems may be devised using the following sequence: , where A is a Lie algebra is a Lie–Poisson structure on R 3, C is a Casimir for is a reduced Poisson bracket and (A, ▵) is a bialgebra. We study the relation between a Lie-Poisson stucture Λ and a reduced Poisson bracket , which is a key element in using the Lie algebra A to constructing this sequence. Different techniques of calculation and estimation of turbulentdiffusivities D of passive fields in infinite incompressiblemedia showing isotropic, homogeneous and stationary turbulence areconsidered. The numerical comparison of the methods is made mostlyfor two representative limiting models of turbulence – withpeak-like spectrum and for vast Kolmogorov's type spectrum. The timedependence of two-point velocity correlators is assumed to beexponential. The backbone of the comparison is steady-state turbulentdiffusivities calculated in nonlinear DIA-approach with thecorrections due to contribution of four-order velocity correlators.As a result of this comparison the most satisfactory approximatemethods are proposed both for steady-state and time-dependentturbulent diffusivities. The paper is concerned with turbulent flow of incompressible, spatially homogeneous viscous fluid. A model for turbulence energy equation is obtained, ignoring the pressure redistribution term in dynamical equations for the Reynolds stresses. The mechanism of dissipation on turbulence production is discussed and shown that the turbulence kinetic energy decays upto a constant value as time becomes infinitely large, i.e., for isotropy, dissipation inhibits the production process and if > initially then dissipation causes reduction in anisotropy.  相似文献

We show that in evolved stars, even at relatively low surfaceamplitudes, nonradial modes become strongly nonlinear in thehydrogen shell source, where the Brunt-Väisälä frequency hasits absolute maximum. The measure of nonlinearity is the productof horizontal displacement times the radial wavenumber, . It becomes large already in evolved -Scuti stars.This nonlinearity presents a major problem for interpretations ofamplitude modulation in RR Lyrae stars in terms of nonradial modeexcitation.  相似文献

A theory of pulsar radio emission generation, in which the observed waves are produced directly by the maser-type plasma instabilities on the anomalous cyclotron-Cherenkov resonance and the Cherenkov-drift resonance , is capable of explaining the main observational characteristics of pulsar radio emission. The instabilities are due to the interaction of the fast particles of the primary beam and from the tail of the distribution with the normal modes of a strongly magnetized one-dimensional electron-positron plasma. The waves emitted at these resonances are vacuum-like electromagnetic waves that may leave the magnetosphere directly. The cyclotron-Cherenkov instability is responsible for core emission pattern and the Cherenkov-drift instability produces conal emission. The conditions for the development of the cyclotron-Cherenkov instability are satisfied for the both typical and millisecond pulsars provided that the streaming energy of the bulk plasma is not very high γ p = 5 ÷ 10. In a typical pulsar the cyclotron-Cherenkov and Cherenkov-drift resonances occur in the outer parts of magnetosphere at r res ≈ 109cm. This theory can account for various aspects of pulsar phenomenology including the morphology of the pulses, their polarization properties and spectral behavior. An estimate of the period of the rotation of the line of apsides of the double-star system Phe is obtained by representing the density function as a product of a normal Gaussian distribution and an associated Legendre polynomial .The asymptotic behaviour of this function coincides with the results obtained by Zeldovichet al. (1981).The period of motion of the line of apsides of Phe (about 63 years) obtained in this way comes close to the period determined by an empirical formula for of Batten (1973).  相似文献

The discovery of ‘twin quasistellar objects’ arose interests among astronomers and astrophysicists to study gravitational lensing problems. The deviation of light from its straight line path is caused by two sources according to the general theory of relativity: (i) the presence of massive objects, i.e. the presence of gravitational field and (ii) the presence of a ‘vacuum field’ which arises because there is a non-zero cosmological vacuum energy. Recently, the research on the relationship between cosmological constant and gravitational lensing process is rather active (see reference [1, 2, 3]. According to the Kottler space time metric, we have deduced an explicit representation of the angular deviation of light path. The deviation term is found to be simply , where M is the mass of the ‘astronomical lens’, rmin is the distance between the point of nearest approach and the centre of M, other symbols have their usual meaning. The presence of this term may be meaningful to the study of cosmological constant using the concept of gravitational lensing; however more sophisticated analysis awaits. Consider a signal radar to be sent from one planet to another. The linear stochastic hydrodynamical equations of the radiation-matter-one-component fluid in the Universe before the recombination era are solved. The stochastic forces in the heat flux and the viscous stress tensor are described according the procedure of Landau and Lifshitz. In the case of a low density universe, where the effects of the thermal conductivity can be neglected with respect to the shear viscosity, we find analytical solutions of the dispersion relation for the different modes and of the density correlation function . At the very Jeans length, this density correlation function exhibits a linear (for very large times) or a cubic (for small times) time dependence instead of a frozen-in character of this special mode.  相似文献

The motion of spin particles in the Schwarzschild field is examined in this paper. It is shown that Mathisson-Papapetrou equations under additional conditions , where is the Lie derivative of the Killing vector j , permit only radial motion, motion in the equatorial plane and in the equilibrium points. 82 compact galaxies with measured redshift present in systems containing partly normal galaxies have been found, using Zwicky's Catalogues and Morphological Catalogue. For them the mean residual redshift has been obtained. The chance probability for this result is 0.015. A high frequency of compact galaxies among those with large discrepant redshift is remarked. Relatively compact normal galaxies also reveal a positive mean value of . Redshift is correlated with magnitude in groups and pairs of compact galaxies, this depending in pairs on the linear separation and colours of the components. If a colour difference is present, the bluer member has the larger redshift in general. In contrast with the large luminosity deduced from the redshift for many field compacts, compact galaxies in systems are faint. The majority of the proposed associations between quasars and systems of normal galaxies are shown to be probably physical.  相似文献

The motion of Hyperion is an almost perfect application of second kind and second genius orbit, according to Poincaré’s classification. In order to construct such an orbit, we suppose that Titan’s motion is an elliptical one and that the observed frequencies are such that 4n H−3n T+3n ω=0, where n H, n T are the mean motions of Hyperion and Titan, n ω is the rate of rotation of Hyperion’s pericenter. We admit that the observed motion of Hyperion is a periodic motion such as . Then, .N H, N T, kN +. With that hypothesis we show that Hyperion’s orbit tends to a particular periodic solution among the periodic solutions of the Keplerian problem, when Titan’s mass tends to zero. The condition of periodicity allows us to construct this orbit which represents the real motion with a very good approximation. The photometric elements of the Algol type binary TT Hydrae derived by the authors from theirUBV observations during 1973–77 have been combined with the spectroscopic elements given by Sanford (1937) and Sahade and Cesco (1946) to obtain the absolute dimensions of the system. It is found that the spectroscopic orbital elements given by Sanford represent the evolutionary status of the secondary component better than those of Sahade and Cesco. The primary appears to be an Al v main sequence star of mass and radius ∼2.3R . The secondary fills its Roche lobe; it can be represented by a K0iii star of mass and radius ∼6.0R . Better spectroscopic data are needed for confirmation of these results.  相似文献
