The use of precise post-processed satellite orbits and satellite clock corrections in absolute positioning, using one GPS
receiver only, has proven to be an accurate alternative to the more commonly used differential techniques for many applications
in georeferencing.
The absolute approach is capable of centimeter accuracy when using state-of-the-art, dual-frequency GPS receivers. When using
observations from single-frequency receivers, however, the accuracy, especially in height, decreases. The obvious reason for
this degradation in accuracy is the effect of unmodeled ionospheric delay.
This paper discusses the availability of some empirical ionospheric models that are publicly available and quantifies their
usefulness for absolute positioning using single-frequency GPS receivers. The Global Ionospheric Model supplied by International
GPS Service (IGS) is the most accurate one and is recommended for absolute positioning using single-frequency GPS receivers.
Using high-quality single-frequency observations, a horizontal epoch-to-epoch accuracy of better than 1 m and a vertical accuracy

The flow of dense water along continental slopes is considered. There is a large literature on the topic based on observations and laboratory experiments. In addition, there are many analytical and numerical studies of dense water flows. In particular, there is a sequence of numerical investigations using the dynamics of overflow mixing and entrainment (DOME) setup. In these papers, the sensitivity of the solutions to numerical parameters such as grid size and numerical viscosity coefficients and to the choices of methods and models is investigated. In earlier DOME studies, three different bottom boundary conditions and a range of vertical grid sizes are applied. In other parts of the literature on numerical studies of oceanic gravity currents, there are statements that appear to contradict choices made on bottom boundary conditions in some of the DOME papers. In the present study, we therefore address the effects of the bottom boundary condition and vertical resolution in numerical investigations of dense water cascading on a slope. The main finding of the present paper is that it is feasible to capture the bottom Ekman layer dynamics adequately and cost efficiently by using a terrain-following model system using a quadratic drag law with a drag coefficient computed to give near-bottom velocity profiles in agreement with the logarithmic law of the wall. Many studies of dense water flows are performed with a quadratic bottom drag law and a constant drag coefficient. It is shown that when using this bottom boundary condition, Ekman drainage will not be adequately represented. In other studies of gravity flow, a no-slip bottom boundary condition is applied. With no-slip and a very fine resolution near the seabed, the solutions are essentially equal to the solutions obtained with a quadratic drag law and a drag coefficient computed to produce velocity profiles matching the logarithmic law of the wall. However, with coarser resolution near the seabed, there may be a substantial artificial blocking effect when using no-slip. 相似文献

The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is one of the modes of climate variability in the North Atlantic region. The atmospheric circulation during the winter season in this region commonly displays a strong meridional (north–south) pressure contrast, with low air pressure (cyclone) centred close to Iceland and high air pressure (anticyclone) near the Azores. This pressure gradient drives the mean surface winds and the mid‐latitude winter storms from west to east across the North Atlantic, bringing mild moist air to northwest Europe. The NAO index is based on the difference of normalised sea‐level pressures (SLP) between Ponta Delgada, Azores and Stykkisholmur, Iceland. The SLP anomalies at these stations are normalised by division of each monthly pressure by the long‐term (1865–1984) standard deviation. Interannual atmospheric climate variability in northwest Europe, especially over Great Britain and western Scandinavia has, during the last decades, been attributed mainly to the NAO, causing variations in the winter weather over the northeast North Atlantic and the adjacent land areas. A comparison between the NAO index and the winter (December–March) precipitation between ad 1864 and 1995 in western Norway shows that these are strongly linked (correlation coefficient 0.77). Variations in the NAO index are also reflected in the mass balance records of glaciers in western Scandinavia. The NAO index is best correlated with mass balance data from maritime glaciers in southern Norway (e.g. Ålfotbreen R2 = 0.51). The record of Holocene (last ca. 11 500 cal. yr) glacier variations of maritime glaciers in western Scandinavia is thus a proxy of pre‐instrumental NAO variations. Changing environmental conditions in the Arctic will affect patterns of coastal erosion processes and thus modify the carbon cycle in the Arctic Ocean. To address this issue, a coastal classification of the Arctic was established to provide the first reliable estimate of organic carbon input from coastal erosion to the Arctic Ocean. The calculation relies on geomorphic parameters and the length of the coastline in the form of a line dataset used in geographical information systems (the World Vector Shoreline). The statistical self-similarity of Arctic shorelines (i.e. the fact that they exhibit similar features and hence different lengths at different scales) hampers the calculation process. Delineating the same section of shoreline at different spatial scales produces changes in the calculated length of the coastline and therefore in the volume of sediment released by up to 30% in some cases. The amount of change differs depending on the type and morphology of the coastline. The length of the World Vector Shoreline does not correlate well to any one scale and is inappropriate for use at the global level. Computations of erosion based on areas instead of lengths (i.e. buffers instead of shoreline lengths) provide a valuable yet simple substitute to the length-based method. Differences in quantities of eroded sediment are, on average, 70% less affected by scale changes when areas are used. Area-based methods are therefore recommended for circum-polar, computation-demanding, shoreline-based erosion calculations. 相似文献

global parameters and includes overshooting from the convective core. In particular, we consider the effect on the stellar
structure, and hence on the theoretical frequencies, of employing different equations of state and different formalisms to

Summary ?The paper presents an experimental study on the effects of fluid content on the mechanical behaviour of natural fractures
in chalk. The aims of the study are to provide better understanding of the mechanisms of chalk-fluid interaction, in general,
and to explain the behaviour of petroleum chalk reservoirs during water injection, in particular. The experiments were carried
out on L?gerdorf chalk using the direct shear apparatus. Two types of fluids were used in the tests: 1) water, and 2) synthetic
oil. L?gerdorf chalk is a water-wet material which will develop capillary pressures upon contact with water. Initially saturating
the chalk with oil will enhance the water wettability by inducing additional capillary forces between water and the non-wetting
oil. In addition to the tests on fractured chalk samples, unconfined compression and direct shear tests on intact chalk samples
were performed. The results showed significant differences in the strength and deformation characteristics of intact chalk
initially saturated with different fluids. Intact water-saturated chalk showed lower deformation modulus (about 50%) and lower
peak (also about 50%) and residual shear strength than the oil-saturated chalk. Water injection in initially oil-saturated
fractures resulted in significant normal deformation under constant effective normal stress and shear stress relaxation under
fixed shear displacement. The water-induced deformation occurred almost instantaneously after only a few cm3 of water had been injected into the fracture, and further injection of water did not increase the water-induced deformation.
After water injection, fractures in initially oil-saturated chalk showed significantly lower normal and shear stiffnesses
and lower shear strength. The weakening in shear is attributed partly to the reduction in the basic friction angle, φb, and this reduction was verified in a series of tilt tests to measure the frictional resistance between smooth edges of core
samples of chalk. The reduction in the basic friction angle implies that the interaction of chalk with water is governed not
only by capillary forces, as postulated in several previous studies, but also by chemical and/or physio-chemical effects. 相似文献

Structural data as well as U–Pb zircon and 40Ar/39Ar biotite and muscovite ages were collected from the Rolvsnes granodiorite in western Norway. The granodiorite intruded at c. 466 Ma, cooled quickly and escaped later viscous deformation. Brittle top‐to‐the‐NNW thrust faults (Set I) and WNW–ESE striking dextral strike‐slip faults (Set II) formed in a NNW–SSE transpressional regime. 40Ar/39Ar dating of synkinematic mica from both sets reveals a c. 450 Ma (Late Ordovician) age of faulting, which constrains early‐Caledonian brittle deformation. Set I and II faults are overprinted by a set of lower‐grade, variably oriented chlorite‐ and epidote‐coated faults (Set III) constraining WNW–ESE shortening. A lamprophyric dyke oriented compatibly with this stress field intruded at c. 435 Ma (Silurian), indicating that Set III formed at the onset of the Scandian Baltica–Laurentia collision. The preservation of Caledonian brittle structures indicates that the Rolvsnes granodiorite occupied a high tectonic level throughout the Caledonian orogeny. 相似文献
