The Italian catalogue contains many earthquakes of moderate to high epicentral intensity which are located in areas of low seismicity and near big cities. Some of them have been inserted in the catalogue after one historical record only. This study investigates many such events in the 1000–1690 time-window showing that a great number of them are fake. Starting by an operational definition of ‘fake quake’, this paper shows the procedures adopted, and the main results which contribute in a significant way to the reassessment of seismicity and seismic hazard.  相似文献

Hydrodynamic modeling of perforated structures   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A hydrodynamic model of perforated or slotted structures is proposed. It is asymptotic in the sense that the openings are supposed to be infinitely small and numerous, and the wall thickness to be nil. At variance with other work, a quadratic, not linear, law, relating the pressure differential to the traversing velocity, is assumed. As a result the hydrodynamic coefficients (added mass and damping) become amplitude dependent. The model is applied to bodies of various shapes including cylinders, plates and disks, in forced motion or submitted to incoming waves. Good agreement with experimental data is generally observed.  相似文献

Equilibrium reversals of Fe2+Mg distribution between the M1 and M2 sites of an orthopyroxene from the Johnstown meteorite were achieved at several temperatures between 700 and 1000°C. One single crystal was used for the whole thermal treatment and for collecting all the X-ray data after quenching. The intracrystalline ion exchange for the bulk chemical composition: (Mg1.453Fe0.441Cr0.024Ca0.054Mn0.015Fe0.005Ti0.003Al0.005)(Si1.960Al0.040)O6 is given by: ln KD = −3027(±39)/T(K) + 0.872(±0.013)> where KD is the distribution coefficient for the reaction: FeM22+ + MgM1 = MgM2 + FeM12+.A transmission electron microscopy (TEM) study of part of the crystal showed the presence of very thin augite lamellae and Guinier-Preston zones indicating a relatively rapid cooling of the host rock at temperatures close to 1000°C. The new temperature scale yields a relatively high quenching temperature of 379 (±8)°C for the pyroxene which appears consistent with a rapid cooling (estimated few degrees per hundred years) of a magmatic cumulate excavated by an impact on its parental body.  相似文献

The systematic study of both natural and synthetic clinopyroxenes often indicates the presence in the difference Fourier map of a maximum of residual density of up to 0.8 electrons, here labelledM2′, close to theM2 site along the diad axis, defining a square pyramid co-ordination polyhedron. To investigate the nature and the crystalchemical implications of this feature, a limited but representative set of clinopyroxenes of volcanic, metamorphic and synthetic origin has been investigated by X-ray structure refinement (at 0.7 and 0.4 Å resolution), by microprobe analysis and by transmission electron microscopy. The most important results are: a) at increasing resolution, the height of theM2′ peak increases while its co-ordinates move towardM2; b) as (Ca + Na) content approaches 1.0 atom per formula unit,M2′ vanishes; c)M2′ has been found in clinopyroxenes which show differing incipient exsolution microstructures, from spinodal decomposition to non-periodic fluctuations, as well as in homogeneous specimens. The presence ofM2′ is interpreted in terms of the simultaneous coexistence in the crystals of two different structural models, approximately diopside and clinoenstatite. An accurate evaluation of the totalM2 + M2′ site occupancy is strongly suggested in XREF work, particularly when thermodynamic and kinetic considerations have to be obtained with accurate determinations of site occupancy factors as a starting point.  相似文献

An experimental campaign is reported on the slow-drift motion of a rectangular barge moored at different positions along an inclined beach, at waterdepths ranging from 54 cm to 21 cm, and submitted to irregular beam seas. The beach is achieved by inclining the 24 m long false bottom of the tank at a slope of 5%, from a depth of 1.05 m. The slow-drift component of the measured sway motion is first compared with state-of-the-art calculations based on Newman’s approximation. At 54 cm depth a good agreement is obtained between calculations and measurements. At 21 cm depth the Newman calculations exceed the measured values. When the flat bottom setdown contribution is added up, the calculated values become 2 to 3 times larger than the measured ones. A second-order model is proposed to predict the shoaling of a bichromatic sea-state propagating in varying water-depth. This model is validated through comparisons with an extension of Schäffer’s model for a straight beach [Schäffer HA. Infragravity waves induced by short-wave groups. J Fluid Mech 1993;247:551-88] and with a fully nonlinear Boussinesq model. It appears that the long wave amplitude is much less than predicted by the flat bottom model, and that its phase difference with the short wave envelope also deviates from the flat bottom model prediction. As a result of this phase shift the actual second-order wave loads can be lower than predicted by Newman’s approximation alone. Application of the shoaling model to the barge tests yields a notably better agreement between numerical and experimental values of its slow-drift sway motion.  相似文献

The article examines the relationship between selective traditions in geographical education, what middle school teachers choose to emphasise in geographical education, and student achievement. The study, conducted in Sweden, is based on observations made by students in teacher training programmes, interviews with teachers, and analyses of a test administered to middle school students. It shows that selective traditions in geographical education are strong, resulting in a focus on country-related knowledge and map-reading skills. Both teachers and students seem unclear about what other subject-specific skills geography teaching provides. Furthermore, students have difficulty achieving a high level of geographic reasoning. The authors argue that a subject-specific language in geography is important in both teaching and assessment. They stress that students need more practice in geographic reasoning, since this is required by the new curriculum and in the national test in geography for Year 6 (i.e. pupils in the age range 12–13 years). The study adds to earlier research by highlighting Swedish middle school teaching, which is a neglected field within curriculum studies, and by using a combination of methods to analyse the impact of selective traditions.  相似文献

Crystal chemistry and structural data for clinopyroxene from the Aeolian islands (Southern Tyrrhenian Sea, Italy) were determined with the aim of obtaining geobarometric information and exploring implications for the structure of volcanic plumbing systems. Cell and M1 site volumes for clinopyroxenes, which are known to decrease with increasing pressure of crystallization, revealed variable values, both within some single islands and along the entire arc, indicating polybaric conditions of crystallization. The lowest cell and M1 volumes were found at Filicudi, plotting close to values of clinopyroxenes from high-pressure ultramafic xenoliths entrained in alkali basalts. Indications of high-pressure crystallization were also found at Salina and, to a lesser extent, at Alicudi, all situated in the western sector of the Aeolian Arc. The central and eastern islands of Lipari, Vulcano, Panarea and Stromboli generally show higher values of cell parameters, suggesting crystallization in shallow magma chambers. These islands are characterized by the occurrence of large calderas, which are apparently lacking at Salina and Filicudi. Time-related variations were observed for cell and M1 volumes of clinopyroxene for some islands. At Salina, the early-erupted products display low values of cell parameters with respect to later activity, thus indicating a decrease in crystallization pressure with time. A similar, although less striking, pattern is observed at Alicudi and Lipari. An overall increase in cell parameters with time was observed at the scale of the entire arc. The observed variations in clinopyroxene structural parameters highlight the significance of pyroxene crystal chemistry for petrogenetic and volcanological interpretation. Correlation with time and the structural characteristics of volcanoes suggest significant regional and temporal modifications in the plumbing systems of Aeolian volcanoes. Clinopyroxenes from Filicudi and the older Salina crystallized at high pressure in deep magma chambers, in the lower crust or at the mantle-crust boundary. The lower crystallization pressure in the younger Salina is interpreted as evidence of upward migration of magma chambers with time. Similar evolution can be envisaged for Alicudi. Instead, the entire evolutionary history of the central and eastern islands was dominated by low-pressure crystallization, with formation of calderas and generation of abundant acid products that are scarce or absent in the western islands. Evolution of the plumbing system of single volcanoes and of the Aeolian arc in general is probably related to modification of stress regimes and/or thinning of the arc basement, due to the effect of uprising mantle material above the Ionian subduction zone.  相似文献

A crystal chemical investigation of clinopyroxenes from a suite of nepheline-bearing lavas located in the Nyambeni Range of Kenya has delineated the polyhedral site configurations and related intracrystalline relationships. These are distinct from those determined for the clinopyroxene in an analogous suite of leucite-bearing lavas from the Sabatini volcanoes in the Roman Region of Italy (Dal Negro et al. 1985).The Nyambeni clinopyroxene, varying from salite to hedenbergite, preferentially accepts Na in the M2 site to balance increasing Fe2+ and Si, respectively, whereas the Sabatini clinopyroxene is confined within the salite field and preferentially accepts Aliv to balance the effect of increasing (Fe3++Ti4++Alvi+Cr3+)M1.The Fe2+/Fe3+ and K/Na ratios of the host rocks emerge as significant factors in determining the different polyhedral configurations and evolutions of the clinopyroxene from the two lava suites, respectively. The resulting Mg-Fe2+ order-disorder relationships in M1–M2 are also distinct in the two clinopyroxenes. A high degree of MgFe2+ order in M1–M2 corresponds to the largest configurational, hence energetic, difference between M1 and M2 in the Nyambeni clinopyroxene, whereas the converse applies to the Sabatini clinopyroxene.In view of the significant crystal chemical differences and distinct evolution trends, it is proposed that salites from alkali volcanic rocks may be referred to as Nyambeni-type or Sabatini-type, respectively.  相似文献

Summary The structural changes occurring in the clinopyroxenes with composition Di100, Di90En10 and Di80En20, due to the Ca-Mg substitution in the M2 site, have been studied. Evidence is given that with increasing Mg content a small percentage of the atoms converts from the M2 position to a new M2 position which is solely occupied by Mg. The maximum conversion of M2 to M2 found in this study is 7%. The closest parallel to the M2 geometry is found in the ZnSiO3 pyroxene (C2/c). The presence of this new site causes significant changes in the tetrahedral configuration, because the M2 atoms are not bonded to 03. The intermediate compositions, Di90En10 and Di80En20, may be thought of as the coexistence of two structural models: diopside and ZnSiO3 pyroxene (C2/c).
Kristallstrukturen Ca-reicher Klinopyroxene der CaMgSi2O6-Mg2Si2O6-Reihe
Zusammenfassung Es wurden die strukturellen Änderungen von Klinopyroxenen der Zusammensetzungen Di100, Di90En10 und Di80En20, die durch den Mg-Ersatz für Ca verursacht werden, untersucht. Es zeigt sich, daß mit steigendem Mg-Gehalt ein kleiner Teil der Atome der M2-Position zu einer neuen M2-Position wechselt; diese wird ausschließlich durch Mg besetzt. Der größte in dieser Arbeit gefundene Übergang von M2 nach M2 beträgt ca. 7%. Die stärksten Parallelen zur Geometrie um M2 werden im Pyroxen ZnSiO3 (C2/c) gefunden. Die Besetzung dieser neuen Position verursacht bedeutende Änderungen im Tetraederverband, da die M2-Atome nicht an O3 gebunden sind. Die Pyroxenstrukturen mit den intermediären Zusammensetzungen Di90En10 und Di80En20 können als Überlagerung zweier Modelle betrachtet werden: Diopsid und ZnSiO3-Pyroxen (C2/c).
