Genetic algorithm (GA) is an effective approach in selecting the best factors without considering all possible combinations in landslide susceptibility mapping (LSM). The approach experienced a local optimal solution for hazard mapping. In this study, we propose a novel genetic algorithm (NGA) for solving the problems of optimal precision in selecting conditioning factors based on the crossover and mutation. In the southwestern part of China, including Wenchuan, Ludshan, and Ludian areas, the findings of this study confirm the applicability of NGA, which has a strong robustness compared to GA obviously. Results indicated that the highest area under curve (AUC) of GA is 93.47, 83.45, and 82.21% in Wenchuan, Lushan, and Ludian, respectively. Cumulative error of the precision (?R) is 3.19, 10.48, and 6.05%, and error of the highest precision (?P) is 0.01, 0.03, and 0.12% for Wenchuan, Lushan, and Ludian, respectively. Compared to the GA, the highest accuracy of NGA is 93.48% (Wenchuan), 83.48% (Lushan), and 82.28% (Ludian). It also revealed that ?R is 0.77, 1.26, and 1.82%, and ?P is 0.00, 0.04, and 0.05% for Wenchuan, Lushan, and Ludian, respectively. By comparing with GA, the novel approach of NGA has stronger robustness and higher accuracy on selecting the optimal conditioning factors of landslide. Additionally, the relationship of landslide occurrence with controlling factors was assessed in every study area. According to the results, lithology, distance to roads, elevation, and slope were regarded as the most effective factors for shallow translational landslides. These factors implied that internal structure and composition of rock, anthropogenic activity, and topography factors posed the main impacts on landslide occurrence. Finally, we implemented landslide susceptibility assessment in three study areas. Results showed that high landslide susceptibility was in the east and northeastern parts of Wenchuan; central region northward of Lushan; and southwest, central region, and west of Ludian.  相似文献

Flooding is one of the most destructive natural hazards that cause damage to both life and property every year, and therefore the development of flood model to determine inundation area in watersheds is important for decision makers. In recent years, data mining approaches such as artificial neural network (ANN) techniques are being increasingly used for flood modeling. Previously, this ANN method was frequently used for hydrological and flood modeling by taking rainfall as input and runoff data as output, usually without taking into consideration of other flood causative factors. The specific objective of this study is to develop a flood model using various flood causative factors using ANN techniques and geographic information system (GIS) to modeling and simulate flood-prone areas in the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia. The ANN model for this study was developed in MATLAB using seven flood causative factors. Relevant thematic layers (including rainfall, slope, elevation, flow accumulation, soil, land use, and geology) are generated using GIS, remote sensing data, and field surveys. In the context of objective weight assignments, the ANN is used to directly produce water levels and then the flood map is constructed in GIS. To measure the performance of the model, four criteria performances, including a coefficient of determination (R 2), the sum squared error, the mean square error, and the root mean square error are used. The verification results showed satisfactory agreement between the predicted and the real hydrological records. The results of this study could be used to help local and national government plan for the future and develop appropriate (to the local environmental conditions) new infrastructure to protect the lives and property of the people of Johor.  相似文献

Understanding the source mechanism of earthquakes may be the key to predict earthquakes. The testing of radioactive radiations and reactionary hypothesis of gases before and after quake events can help predict and monitor earthquake occurrence. In this study, the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and the column ozone (O3) were applied to evaluate the December 26, 2003 earthquake of Bam city in western Iran. The results show that ozone concentration (column density) decreased about 30 DU and or 807?×?10E15/cm2 molecules. Using high-resolution AIRS data for the study area, we were able to discriminate gases that formed and changed before the main shock at least a day before the occurrence of the quake in Bam.  相似文献

Mass movements or mass wasting is being considered as one of the severe forms of natural disasters. Iran is geographically located in the Alps–Himalaya seismicity belt. It has a high potential to mass wasting. This seismic phenomenon creates landslides and rock falls in the high mountains of Alborz and Zagros. These mass movements and various types of slides can be systematically assessed and mapped through traditional mapping frameworks using geo-information technologies. The geo-information-based technology offers the earth scientist to study and map various types of mass movement and stability of slopes. In this study, we used field data coupling with the tectonic-related factors to provide a solution for slope-related hazards. Firstly, various geological and geomorphological factors such as lineaments and faults, vegetation, lithology, slope, drainage, land use/land cover, seismicity and roads network were extracted and compiled using geo-information technology. This is because the factors mentioned above play important role in the instability of the region. Then, the study area was divided into four regions based on the rate of mass wasting and its degree of vulnerability. The results of this study showed that the erosion in Karaj formation is severe. Additionally, this research also reveals that the hydrothermal solutions caused by the erosional activities have influenced the glassy element of tuffs and subsequently changed into the clays. This change has caused the tuffs to be relatively unstable. Further, it is evident that the chemical and physical weathering has had a big impact on it whilst most of the mass wasting has occurred within the unstable tuffs of Karaj formation. Finally, the paper concluded that the recent construction of the new roads in the region has increased the potential danger for generating the mass wastes and thus makes the region more unstable.  相似文献

Urban agriculture (UA) in Khartoum, Sudan, contributes to meeting the increasing food demand of the city's rapidly growing population, but its spatial extent, development over time and resource consumption are unknown. To fill this knowledge gap, we analyzed scenes captured by Landsat satellites in 1972, 1987 and 2000. For each dataset, we calculated the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and classified all grid cells with NDVI values higher than one standard deviation above the mean as vegetated land. We also quantified agricultural vegetation on aerial photographs taken in 1958 and on a recent Google Earth image. The built-up area of the city was estimated for each point in time. Based on these spatial estimates, we computed water consumption by UA based on geographic, temporal and climatic datasets and official data on the cropping patterns of Khartoum State, using the Penman–Monteith equation to estimate crop water demands, and assuming a water use efficiency of 0.56.Urban agriculture increased from 8751 ha in 1972 to 13,249 ha today. In the municipal core zone, UA decreased from 4799 ha in 1958 to 2869 ha today. Along the Nile, UA persisted through time, whereas many urban irrigation schemes have been pushed into the periphery. The built-up area increased strongly and today exceeds the UA area 5.5-fold. Estimated crop water demand on UA land increased from 241 to 365 million m3 year?1 between 1972 and today.  相似文献

The Longmenshan fault is a thrust fault which runs along the base of the Longmen Mountains in Sichuan province,southwestern China.The southern segment of the fault had two distinct responses to the Ms 8 Wenchuan and Ms 7 Lushan earthquakes.This study determines characteristics of the structural geology of the Longmenshan fault to evaluate how it influenced the two aforementioned earthquakes.This research was done within a Geoinformation Technologies(Gi T) environment based on multi-source remote sensing and crustal movement data extracted from the Global Positioning System(GPS).The spatial distribution of the southern segment of the Longmenshan fault zone was comprehensively analyzed to study both earthquakes.The study revealed that the Wenchuanand Lushan earthquakes occurred on two relatively independent faults.In addition,there was a nearly constant-velocity crustal movement zone between the two epicenters that probably had a compressive stress with slow motion.Furthermore,the central fault and a mountain back fault gradually merged from north to south.The Lushan earthquake was not an aftershock of the Wenchuan earthquake.The research showed that fault zones within 30–50 km of State Highway 318 are intensive and complex.In addition,crustal movement velocity decreased rapidly,with a strong multi-directional shear zone.Thus,activity in that zone was likely stronger than in the northern part over the medium to long term.  相似文献
