The size, complexity and critical operations of many offshore structures, including the mobile offshore bases (MOBs) of current interest, require careful determination of wave forces on the neighboring structures, including their interactions. This paper describes an analytical/numerical approach that determines the wave forces on multiple structures in the vicinity of one another. The method involves the consideration of multiple vessel interaction and scattering in waves. The analysis is an extension of the semi-analytical multiple vertical cylinder analysis published by the author. The analysis is similar to the one proposed by Kagemoto and Yue for axisymmetric bodies.The direct method of linear diffraction, while quite accurate and efficient in solving the hydrodynamic problem, demands a large amount of memory and requires considerable execution time. The present analysis is very efficient in these respects. It is accomplished by marrying the direct method with a semi-closed analytical method of multiple scattering developed for an array composed of vertical cylindrical structures. It is recognized that this analytical method has a limitation owing to the geometry of many offshore structures including MOBs. Therefore, the analysis is extended to an arbitrary geometry. In this method, the direct matrix method of diffraction problem is applied to an isolated module and then extended to structures with the multiple scattering technique to account for the interaction of multiple structures.Comparisons are made of the results from the analytical and conventional numerical diffraction theory with those of the semi-analytical tool using the above-mentioned analysis.  相似文献

Water quality assessment is key to the conservation and management of rivers. River Saraswati, a distributary of the river Ganga, serves as a lifeline to many villages in the district Hooghly in West Bengal, India. As the river is gradually dying due to diverse man-made pollution, ten water quality parameters in two sampling spots (PR-1 and PR-2) in the river are monitored month-wise from March 2017 to February 2020,  and these are compared with those from a reference pond. The water quality index (WQI) is determined for the two riverine spots and the reference pond based on the Canadian Council of Ministers of Environment WQI (CCMEWQI) and weighted arithmetic WQI, respectively. In addition to actual observations, three different forecasting methods, exponential smoothing, autoregressive integrated moving average, and artificial neural network, are used to predict WQI for the next two years. This study indicates that free CO2, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity are the key parameters to evaluate this river's anthropogenic stress and health. The actual and forecasted results reflect the precipitous degradation of CCMEWQI in PR-2. Therefore, the immediate intervention of all stakeholders is required to adopt an integrated and comprehensive river management plan to save the river from utter obliteration.  相似文献

In mineral exploration, new methods to improve the delineation of ore deposits at depth are in demand. For this purpose, increasing the signal-to-noise ratio through suitable data processing is an important requirement. Seismic reflection methods have proven to be useful to image mineral deposits. However, in most hard rock environments, surface waves constitute the most undesirable source-generated or ambient noise in the data that, especially given their typical broadband nature, often mask the events of interest like body-wave reflections and diffractions. In this study, we show the efficacy of a two-step procedure to suppress surface waves in an active-source reflection seismic dataset acquired in the Ludvika mining area of Sweden. First, we use seismic interferometry to estimate the surface-wave energy between receivers, given that they are the most energetic arrivals in the dataset. Second, we adaptively subtract the retrieved surface waves from the original shot gathers, checking the quality of the unveiled reflections. We see that several reflections, judged to be from the mineralization zone, are enhanced and better visualized after this two-step procedure. Our comparison with results from frequency-wavenumber filtering verifies the effectiveness of our scheme, since the presence of linear artefacts is reduced. The results are encouraging, as they open up new possibilities for denoising hard rock seismic data and, in particular, for imaging of deep mineral deposits using seismic reflections. This approach is purely data driven and does not require significant judgment on the dip and frequency content of present surface waves, which often vary from place to place.  相似文献

Granulites are developed in various tectonic settings and during different geological periods, and have been used for continental correlation within supercontinent models. In this context the Balaram-Kui-Surpagla-Kengora granulites of the South Delhi Terrane of the Aravalli Mobile Belt of northwestern India are significant. The granulites occur as shear zone bounded lensoidal bodies within low-grade rocks of the South Delhi Terrane and comprise pelitic and calcareous granulites, a gabbro-norite-basic granulite suite and multiple phases of granites of the Ambaji suite. The granulites have undergone three major phases of folding and shearing. The F1 and F2 folds are coaxial along NE-SW axis, and F3 folds are developed across the former along NW-SE axis. Thus, various types of interference patterns are produced. The granulite facies metamorphism is marked by a spinel–cordierite–garnet–sillimanite–quartz assemblage with melt phase and is synkinematic to the F1 phase of folding. The peak thermobarometric condition is set at ≥850 °C and 5.5–6.8 kb. The granulites have been exhumed through thrusting along multiple ductile shear zones during syn- to post-F2 folding. Late-stage shearing has produced cataclasites and pseudotachylites. Sensitive High Resolution Ion MicroProbe (SHRIMP) U–Pb dating of zircon from pelitic granulites and synkinematically emplaced granites indicate that: (1) the sedimentary succession of the South Delhi Terrane was deposited between 1240 and 860 Ma with detritus derived from magmatic sources with ages between 1620 and 1240 Ma; (2) folding and granulite metamorphism have taken place between ca. 860 and 800 Ma, and exhumation at around ca. 800–760 Ma; and (3) the last phase of granitic activity occurred at ca. 759 Ma. This shows, for the first time, that the granulites of the South Delhi Terrane are much younger than those of the Sandmata Granulite Complex of the northern part of the Aravalli Mobile Belt, the Saussar granulites of the Central India Mobile Belt and the Eastern Ghats Mobile Belt. Instead, they show similarities to the Neoproterozoic granulites of the Circum Indian Orogens that include the East African Orogen (East Africa and Madagascar), the Southern Granulite Terrane of India and much of Sri Lanka. We suggest that the South Delhi Basin probably marks a trace of the proto-Mozambique Ocean in NW India within Gondwana, that closed when the Marwar Craton, arc fragments (Bemarivo Belt in Madagascar and the Seychelles) and components of the Arabian-Nubian Shield collided with the Aravalli-Bundelkhand Protocontinent at ca. 850–750 Ma.  相似文献

The Mirik lake is a well-known tourist destination in the Darjeeling Himalayan region of West Bengal. In the last few decades, the lake area experienced a surge in demand for the hospitality industry with the consequences of unrestricted municipal town growth. On this perspective, this research work addresses the contemporary problems of the Mirk municipality area involving the lake system using technologies of remote sensing and GIS. In accordance with the primary objective, the detailed land use/land cover change analysis of the past twenty years shows a significant escalating trend in built-up area as it has increased from 149.85 ha in 2000 to 178.25 ha in 2020, where the lake expresses a steady reduction of its perennial part. The gradual shrinkage in the lake area may become of grave concern and therefore, this particular work tries to examine the water quality parameters of Mirik lake. Analyses have shown that the lake shrinkage may be attributed to waste disposal, landfill pollution etc., substantially contributed to the raised level of suspended sediment concentration (3724.26 mg/lit in 2020) near the boundaries. Moreover, the outcome of the developed water pollution model identifies that the western and south-western parts of the lake are the most polluted regions and confirms numerous inlets of the western side push up the level of phosphorus, nitrogen and biological oxygen demand in lake water. Such lake degradation is a real threat to the mountainous lacustrine environment, and it requires comprehensive plans for better management practices at some regular interregnum.

The Likelihood Ratio (LR) Model has been applied as an improvement upon the Frequency Ratio (FR) that computes the ratio of the percentage of the landslide pixels to the percentage of the non-landslide pixels instead of the total number of pixels used in the denominator as in case of the FR. The comparative assessment of the two techniques is made through spatial modelling of GIS vector data using the ArcGIS software. Two different Landslide Information Values were computed for each polygon element of the study area employing the two FR techniques that categorized the study area into five classes of vulnerability using natural breaks (Jenks) technique. Subsequently, vulnerability zonation maps were prepared showing the different levels of landslide vulnerability. The LR technique yielded significantly higher vulnerability assessment accuracy (77%) as compared to the standard FR (71%).  相似文献

Present paper deals with a brief review of the research carried out to develop multi-parametric gas-geochemical monitoring facilities dedicated to earthquake prediction research in India by installing a network of seismo-geochemical monitoring observatories at different regions of the country. In an attempt to detect earthquake precursors, the concentrations of helium, argon, nitrogen, methane, radon-222 (222Rn), polonium-218 (218Po), and polonium-214 (214Po) emanating from hydrothermal systems are monitored continuously and round the clock at these observatories. In this paper, we make a cross correlation study of a number of geochemical anomalies recorded at these observatories. With the data received from each of the above observatories we attempt to make a time series analysis to relate magnitude and epicentral distance locations through statistical methods, empirical formulations that relate the area of influence to earthquake scale. Application of the linear and nonlinear statistical techniques in the recorded geochemical data sets reveal a clear signature of long-range correlation in the data sets.  相似文献

Electron diffraction and electron microscopic evidence is presented for a dynamical and reversible phase transition in anorthite at T c=516 K. Antiphase boundaries with a displacement vector, R=1/2[111] become unstable at T c, while other antiphase boundary loops with the same displacement vector are formed. These interfaces are very mobile and vibrate with a frequency which increases strongly with temperature. At temperatures considerably above T c, a shimmering effect is observed on imaging in dark field using diffuse c reflections. These observations are in agreement with the interpretation of the high temperature body-centered phase as a statistical dynamical average of very small c type antiphase domains of primitive anorthite. We propose that the c type antiphase domains in primitive anorthite originate from ordered and anti-ordered configurations around Ca2+ ions at (ooo) and (oio) [likewise (zoo) and (zio)] positions. The dynamical model for the transition involves a two-stage mechanism: a softmode mechanism causing the aluminosilicate framework to approach body-centered symmetry, followed by an orderdisorder of the Ca2+ ion configurations. Close to T c, statistical fluctuations set in and breathing motion type lattice vibrations of the aluminosilicate framework cause the configurations around Ca (ooo) and Ca(oio) [likewise Ca(zoo) and Ca(zio)] in the configuration to dynamically interchange through an intermediate configuration. The dynamical nature of the phase transition in anorthite is comparable to the phase transition in quartz.  相似文献
