To study the wind field within the atmospheric boundary layer over the Tokyo metropolitan area, Doppler lidar observations
were made 45 km north of Sagami Bay and 30 km west of Tokyo Bay, from 14 May to 15 June 2008. Doppler lidar on 27 May 2008
observed the vertical and horizontal wind structure of a well-developed sea-breeze front (SBF) penetrating from Sagami Bay.
At the SBF, a strong updraft (maximum w approximately equal to 5 m s−1) was formed with a horizontal scale of about 500 m and vertical scale of 2 km. The spatial relationship between the strong
updraft over the nose of the SBF and prefrontal thermal suggests that the strong updraft was triggered by interaction between
the SBF and the thermal. After the updraft commenced, a collocated ceilometer observed an intense aerosol backscatter up to
2 km above ground level. The observational results suggest that the near-surface denser aerosols trapped in the head region
of the SBF escaped from the nose of the SBF and were then vertically transported up to the mixing height by the strong updraft
at the SBF. This implies that these phenomena occurred not continuously but intermittently. The interaction situations between
the SBF and prefrontal thermal can affect the wind structure at the SBF and the regional air quality. 相似文献

Several techniques have been introduced in the last decades for the dehydration and release of O2 from biogenic silica (opal-A) for oxygen-isotope analysis. However, only one silica standard is universally available: a quartz standard (NBS28) distributed by the IAEA, Vienna. Hence, there is a need for biogenic silica working standards. This paper compares the existing methods of oxygen-isotope analyses of opal-A and aims to characterize additional possible working standards to calibrate the δ18O values of biogenic silica. For this purpose, an inter-laboratory comparison was organized. Six potential working standard materials were analysed repeatedly against NBS28 by eight participating laboratories using their specific analytical methods. The materials cover a wide range of δ18O values (+23 to +43‰) and include diatoms (marine, lacustrine), phytoliths and synthetically-produced hydrous silica. To characterize the proposed standards, chemical analyses and imaging by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were also performed. Despite procedural differences at each laboratory, all methods are in reasonable agreement with a standard deviation (SD) for δ18O values between 0.3‰ and 0.9‰ (1σ). Based on the results, we propose four additional biogenic silica working standards (PS1772-8: 42.8‰; BFC: 29.0‰; MSG60: 37.0‰; G95-25-CL leaves: 36.6‰) for δ18O analyses, available on request through the relevant laboratories. 相似文献

We report the investigation of cutting methods for Hayabusa samples. The purpose of our study is to explore the possibility of applying multiple analyses to a single particle effectively. We investigated the cutting performance of a blade dicing saw, laser, focused ion beam (FIB), and physical breaking by microindenter. Cutting performance was examined by estimating the aspect ratio of the cut slit, i.e., depth over width of the slit. We also investigated the possible contamination and sample damage by cutting. The result of the investigation shows that we can cut the samples from <50 μm to 500 μm using those methods with aspect ratios from 10 to 20, although they would introduce some contamination or damage to the samples. Our investigations also provide an important basis for the analysis of samples obtained by future sample return missions. 相似文献

The relationship between euphausiid community structure and water region was studied during a 2-year seasonal survey in the northwestern (NW) Pacific Ocean. The euphausiid community structure and its associated species were analyzed from 38 micronekton samples collected during eight cruises. The euphausiid community structure and its distribution patterns clearly corresponded to physical oceanographic features in the Oyashio region, Oyashio–Kuroshio Mixed Water Region (OKMWR), and Kuroshio region. In contrast, community structure was unrelated to seasonality. The 19 species out of 40 identified in this area were grouped and named after their habitats. The six cold-water species were grouped into three regional types: two coastal Oyashio species, three Oyashio–OKMWR species, and one Oyashio–Kuroshio species. The four species dominating in the OKMWR were categorized into each specific types: Nematoscelis difficilis as OKMWR–Oyashio species, Euphausia gibboides as OKMWR species, Euphausia similis as OKMWR–Oyashio & OKMWR–Kuroshio species, and Euphausia recurva as OKMWR–Kuroshio species. The seven warm-water species were categorized as Kuroshio–OKMWR species or Kuroshio species. The other two species were categorized as cosmopolitan species. In particular, regarding the result in the OKMWR, our study suggest that (1) the OKMWR has high species diversity, and (2) the dominant species, such as Euphausia pacifica, N. difficilis, E. similis, and E. gibboides, are considered to be key species in the food webs in this region. 相似文献

We observed cross sectional ultra‐thin sections near the surface of 12 particles recovered from the S‐type asteroid Itokawa by the Hayabusa spacecraft in 2010, using spherical aberration–corrected STEM and conventional TEM. Although their mineralogy is almost identical to the equilibrated LL chondrites and therefore basically anhydrous, micrometer‐to‐submicrometer‐sized sylvite was identified on the surface of Itokawa particle RA‐QD02‐0034. Separately, micrometer‐sized halite was also identified on the surface of Itokawa particle RA‐QD02‐0129. Detailed inspection of the sample processing procedures at the JAXA's Planetary Materials Sample Curation Facility and textural observation of the sylvite and halite indicate that they were clearly present on two Itokawa particles before they were removed from Clean Chamber #2 at JAXA. However, there is no direct evidence for their extraterrestrial origin at present. If the sylvite and halite are extraterrestrial, their presence suggests that they may be more abundant on the surface of S‐type asteroids than previously thought. 相似文献

We study the long-term variations of Balmer line profiles due to global one-armed oscillations in Be-star disks. In order to examine the qualitative effects of oscillations on line profiles, we assume that the eigenfunctions of one-armed nonlinear oscillations are similar to those of linear oscillations. Computing the line profiles for various values of disk parameters, we find that in small disks or in disks with steep density gradients the one-armed fundamental modes cause remarkable variabilities similar to the observedV/R variations. 相似文献

Abstract— Three‐dimensional structures and elemental abundances of four impact tracks in silica aerogel keystones of Stardust samples from comet 81P/Wild 2 (bulbous track 67 and carrot‐type tracks 46, 47, and 68) were examined non‐destructively by synchrotron radiation‐based microtomography and X‐ray fluorescence analysis. Track features, such as lengths, volumes and width as a function of track depth, were obtained quantitatively by tomography. A bulbous portion was present near the track entrance even in carrot‐type tracks. Each impact of a cometary dust particle results in the particle disaggregated into small pieces that were widely distributed on the track walls as well as at its terminal. Fe, S, Ca, Ni, and eight minor elements are concentrated in the bulbous portion of track 68 as well as in terminal grains. It was confirmed that bulbous portions and thin tracks were formed by disaggregation of very fine fragile materials and relatively coarse crystalline particles, respectively. The almost constant ratio of whole Fe mass to track volume indicates that the track volume is almost proportional to the impact kinetic energy. The size of the original impactor was estimated from the absolute Fe mass by assuming its Fe content (CI) and bulk density. Relations between the track sizes normalized by the impactor size and impact conditions are roughly consistent with those of previous hypervelocity impact experiments. 相似文献
