How climate changes will modify the behavior of El Niño/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) is one of the important questions in future climate projections. An investigation under different climate forcing gives us a good insight on the mechanism of ENSO variability and its changes. In this paper, sensitivity on ENSO by progressive mountain uplift is investigated with an atmosphere–ocean coupled general circulation model. We used eight different mountain heights: 0% (no mountain), 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 (control run), 120, and 140%. Land–sea distribution is the same for all experiments and all mountains in the world are uniformly varied. Systematic changes in precipitation and circulation fields as well as SST are obtained with progressive mountain uplift. In the summertime, the precipitation area moved inland of the Asian continent with mountain uplift, while the Pacific subtropical anticyclone and associated trade winds became stronger. The western Pacific warm pool and ENSO also systematically changed. When the mountain height is low, a warm pool is located over the central Pacific due to weak trade winds in the Pacific. The model ENSO is strongest, its frequency longest, and is most periodic in the no mountain run. The model ENSO becomes weaker, shorter and less periodic when the mountain height increases. Strengthening the mean state trade winds and narrowing meridional extent of equatorial wind and ocean response by mountain uplift would be responsible for ENSO modulation. 相似文献

Double-planed deep seismic zone and anomalous structure in the upper mantle beneath northeastern Honshu (Japan) 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Seismicity located by using the most recent data obtained from the high-gain seismograph network of Tohoku University shows that the deep seismic zone beneath northeastern Honshu, Japan, is composed of two thin planes which are parallel to each other and are 30–40 km apart. Focal mechanisms derived from the earthquakes in the upper plane are reverse-faulting, or, some of them, down-dip compression. As a contrast, those in the lower plane are down-dip extension. The location of the upper boundary of the descending lithospheric slab, inferred from the arrival-time difference between ScS and ScSp waves and from the travel-time anomaly of intermediate-depth earthquakes observed at the small-scale seismic array, coincides exactly with the upper plane of the double-planed deep seismic zone. Anelasticity (1/Q) structure of the upper mantle consists of three distinct zones: a high-Q (Qs− 1500) inclined lithospheric slab, an intennediate-Q (Qs−350) land-side mantle between the Pacific coast and the volcanic front, and a low-Q (Qs − 100) land-side mantle between the volcanic front and the coast of the Japan Sea.The evidence obtained here provides valuable information as to the definition of the type of mechanism producing the plate motion beneath island arcs. 相似文献

Many projects have recently been carried out and proposed for observing high energy electrons since it is realized that cosmic ray electrons are very important when study-ing the dark matter particles and the acceleration mechanism of cosmic rays. An imaging calorimeter,BETS (Balloon-borne Electron Telescope with Scintillator fiber),has been de-veloped for this purpose. Using pattern analysis of the shower development,the electrons can be selected from those primary cosmic ray proton events with flux heights one-tenth that of the electrons. The Monte-Carlo simulation is indispensable for the instrument design,the sig-nal trigger and the data analysis. We present different shower simulation codes and compare the simulation results with the beam test and the flight data of BETS. We conclude that the code FLUKA2002 gives the most consistent results with the experimental data. 相似文献

We investigate a possibility that non-thermal X-ray emission in a supernova remnant(SNR) is produced by jitter radiation,
which is the analogue of synchrotron radiation in small-scale random magnetic fields. We can fit the multi-wavelength data
of SNRs RX J1713.7-3946 (G347.3-0.5) and RX J0852.0-4622 (G266.6-1.2) by constructing pure jitter and inverse Compton (IC)
emission models. We find that the physical fit parameters of random magnetic fields take values of several tens of μG strength
and of the order of ∼107 cm correlation length. These properties of random magnetic fields in collisionless shock of SNRs are discussed.

The structure of the cosmic ray electron halo of a starburst galaxy depends strongly on the nature of galactic wind and the
configuration of the magnetic field. We have investigated these dependencies by solving numerically the propagation of electrons
originating in starburst galaxies, most likely in supernova remnants. The calculations are made for several models for the
galactic winds and for the configuration of the magnetic fields for comparison with observations. Our simulation of a quasi-radio
halo reproduces both the extended structure of ∼9 kpc and the subtle hollow structure near the polar region of the radio halo
that are observed in the starburst galaxy NGC 253. These findings suggest the existence of strong galactic wind in NGC 253.

Assessments of phytoplankton diversity in Sabah waters, North Borneo, have primarily relied on morphology-based identification, which has inherent biases and can be time-consuming. Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology has been shown to be capable of overcoming several limitations of morphology-based methods. Samples were collected from the Sepanggar Bay over the course of the year 2018 in different monsoon seasons. Morphology-based identification and NGS sequencing of the V8–V9 region of the 18S LSU rDNA were used to investigate the diversity of the phytoplankton community. Microscopy and NGS showed complementary results with more diatom taxa detected by microscopy whereas NGS detected smaller and rarer taxa. The harmful algal genera in the study site comprised of Skeletonema, Margalefidinium, Pyrodinium, Takayama, and Alexandrium as detected by NGS. This study showed that that an integrative approach of both morphological and molecular techniques could provide more comprehensive information about the phytoplankton community as the approach captured quantitative variability as well as the diversity of phytoplankton species. 相似文献

We performed a comprehensive metaproteomic analysis of the dissolved organic matter (DOM) in Japanese coastal waters using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry and demonstrated that these proteomes were characterized by proteins with various functions, including metabolic enzymes, membranes, and photosynthetic proteins. The protein sources included cyanobacteria, heterotrophic bacteria, and eukaryotic phytoplankton. Most of the components were similar among samples and also similar to pelagic components. We also observed differences in the compositions of the microbial communities of origin among the different dissolved protein samples and differences in the relative abundance of specific dissolved protein types (e.g., cytoskeletal proteins), possibly indicating potential dynamics in the coastal DOM pool. 相似文献

We measured dissolved isoprene (2-methyl-1,3-butadiene; C5H8) concentrations in a broad area of the southern Indian Ocean and in the Indian sector of the Southern Ocean from 35°S to 64°S and from 37°E to 111°E during austral summer 2010–2011. Isoprene concentrations were continuously measured by use of a proton-transfer-reaction mass spectrometer combined with a bubbling-type equilibrator. Concentrations of isoprene and its emission flux throughout the study period ranged from 0.2 to 395 pmol L?1 and from 181 to 313 nmol m?2 day?1, respectively, the averages being generally higher than those of previous studies. Although we found a significant linear positive relationship between isoprene and chlorophyll-a concentrations (r 2 = 0.37, n = 36, P < 0.001), the correlation coefficient was lower than previously reported. In contrast, in the high-latitude area (>53°S) we identified a significant negative correlation (r 2 = 0.59, n = 1263, P < 0.001) between isoprene and the temperature-normalized partial pressure of carbon dioxide (n-pCO2), used as an indicator of net community production in this study. This suggests that residence times and factors controlling variations in isoprene and n-pCO2 are similar within a physically stable water column. 相似文献
