Observations of the interstellar medium reveal a dynamic realm permeated by shocks. These shocks are generated on a large
range of scales by galactic rotation, supernovae, stellar winds, and other processes. Whenever a shock encounters a density
interface, Richtmyer-Meshkov instabilities may develop. Perturbations along the interface grow, leading to structure formation
and material mixing. An understanding of the evolution of Richtmyer-Meshkov instabilities is essential for understanding galactic
structure, molecular cloud morphology, and the early stages of star formation. An ongoing experimental campaign studies Richtmyer-Meshkov
mixing in a convergent, compressible, miscible plasma at the Omega laser facility. Cylindrical targets, consisting of a low
density foam core and an aluminum shell covered by an epoxy ablator, are directly driven by fifty laser beams. The aluminum
shell is machined to produce different perturbation spectra. Surface types include unperturbed (smooth), single-mode sinusoids,
multi-mode (rough), and multi-mode with particular modes accentuated (specified-rough). Experimental results are compared
to theory and numerical simulations. 相似文献
Abstract Zircons have been studied from different layers of migmatites (from Arvika, western Sweden and Nelaug, southern Norway) and from a paragneiss (from Arvika) associated with one of the migmatites. The main purpose of the investigation is to establish whether or not information about zircons can help in the elucidation of the parentage and rock-forming processes of migmatites. The elongation ratio of zircons from all layers is small and characteristic of sedimentary zircons. Further, the absence of characteristic colours and the growth trends of the zircons (indicated by the reduced major axes) observed in the various samples both support a sedimentary parentage for these rocks. The zircons of all layers exhibit secondary growth (overgrowth, outgrowth and multiple growth) due to metamorphism. Compared with the zircons from the paragneiss, those of the migmatite layers are more clouded and less rounded, some of them becoming opaque or even skeletal; this is especially true of the zircons from the leucosomes. These observations indicate an alteration of the original sedimentary zircons in the migmatite, especially in the leucosomes, in response to the migmatization process, previously interpreted as partial melting. 相似文献
The NAIAD experiment (NaI Advanced Detector) for weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) dark matter searches at Boulby mine (UK) is described. The detector consists of an array of encapsulated and unencapsulated NaI(Tl) crystals with high light yield. Six crystals are collecting data at present. Data accumulated by four of them (10.6 kg × year exposure) have been used to set upper limits on the WIMP–nucleon spin-independent and WIMP–proton spin-dependent cross-sections. Pulse shape analysis has been applied to discriminate between nuclear recoils, as may be caused by WIMP interactions, and electron recoils due to gamma background. Various calibrations of crystals are presented. 相似文献
The time evolution behaviour of the superhumps of the dwarf nova1RXS J232953.9+ 062814 is investigated with the wavelet analysis
method. On the basis of two nights CCD photometry performed during its first superoutburst as well as other published brightness
data, we reveal the superhump's time-dependence as a function of periods and time. Our light curves, which phased in the rapid
decay ending portion of the superoutburst and in the dawn of a following normal outburst, are important to help trace the
superhump evolution for the star. Both the superhump period and the orbital period of the binary system are detected in the
present data. We obtain Psh=0.0458±0.0002d and Porb=0.0450±0.0002d. They agree with those existing values. The two periods exchanged their roles during the superhump evolution.
The general profile of brightness fading over the outbursts roughly followed an exponential decay law or a form of a five-order
polynomial.

As well known, the methods of remote sensing and Bowen Ratio for retrieving surface flux are based on energy balance closure; however, in most cases, surface energy observed in experiment is lack of closure. There are two main causes for this: one is from the errors of the observation devices and the differences of their observational scale; the other lies in the effect of horizontal advection on the surface flux measurement. Therefore, it is very important to estimate the effects of horizontal advection quantitatively. Based on the local advection theory and the surface experiment, a model has been proposed for correcting the effect of horizontal advection on surface flux measurement, in which the relationship between the fetch of the measurement and pixel size for remote sensed data was considered. By means of numerical simulations, the sensitivities of the main parameters in the model and the scaling problems of horizontal advection were analyzed. At last, by using the observational data acquired in agricultural field with relatively homogeneous surface, the model was validated.

They are related to current strategies and countermeasures to ensure the protection of astronauts from radiation during interplanetary missions, with specific reference to: radiation environment and its variability; radiation effects on the crew; transfer trajectories and associated fluences; vehicle and surface habitat concepts; passive and active shielding concepts; space weather monitoring and warning systems. 相似文献
The results of a photometric monitoring of the quasar 4C 38.41, performed at the optical R and B bands in 2002 February–March, are presented. With a 60/90 cm Schmidt telescope at the Xinglong station of the National Astronomical Observatories of China, we observed the source exhibiting amplitude variations of up to 0.78 mag in both bands during the whole campaign. Intraday and even intranight variations are detected as well. A typical variability time-scale of about 36 d is derived from our 2-month observations at the optical bands, which is identical to that found at a radio wavelength of 92 cm, suggesting a common origin for the variations in 4C 38.41 from optical to radio bands. 相似文献
