Tritium data from the GEOSECS eastern and western track stations sampled in the thermocline of the North Equatorial Counter Current (NECC) showed high values, which are indicative of the contribution of the North Equatorial Current (NEC) to the equatorial region. A tritium front at 6°N is evidence of the penetration of northern latitude water into the NECC. The results of a two-? model show no net flux between NEC and NECC and a lower bound estimate of five years for an exchange time scale between the NEC and NECC in the thermocline; this is consistent with a horizontal diffusivity of 5 × 107 cm2/s.  相似文献

The assemblage paragonite + quartz is encountered frequently in low- to medium-grade metamorphic rocks. With rising grade of metamorphism they react mutually to yield the condensed assemblage albite + Al2SiO5.The univariant curve pertaining to the equilibrium paragonite + quartz=albite + andalusite + H2O has been located experimentally. The reversed P H 2 O-T data are: 1 kb: 470–490° C 2 kb: 510–530° C 3 kb: 540–560° C 4 kb: 560–580° C 5 kb: 590–600° C The univariant curve pertaining to the equilibrium paragonite + quartz=albite + kyanite + H2O runs through the following P H 2 O-T-intervals: 5 kb: 570–625° C 6 kb: 600–630° C 7 kb: 620–640° C Thermodynamic calculations of S 298 0 , H f,298 0 and G f,298 0 of the phase paragonite from the experimental data presented above and those obtained from the equilibria of the reaction paragonite=albite + corundum + H2O (Chatterjee, 1970), agree within the limits of uncertainty. This prompts the idea that Zen's (1969) suggestion of a possible error of approximately 7 kcal in G f,298 0 of the Al2SiO5 polymorphs may in fact be due to an error of similar magnitude in G f,298 0 of corundum.A best estimate of S 298 0 , H f,298 0 and G f,298 0 of paragonite based on these considerations yield: S 298 0 : 67.61±3.9 cal deg–1 gfw–1 H f,298 0 : –1411.4±2.7 kcal gfw–1 G f,298 0 : –1320.9±4.0 kcal gfw–1 These numbers will be subject to change when better thermochemical data on corundum and albite are available.In medium-grade metamorphic rocks the assemblage paragonite + quartz is commonly found in stable coexistence with such other phases as muscovite, staurolite, andalusite, kyanite, but not with cordierite or sillimanite. However, the assemblage paragonite-sillimanite has been reported to be stable in the absence of quartz. All these petrologic observations can be explained on the basis of the stability data of the phases and phase assemblages concerned.  相似文献

The univariant pressure temperature curve of the reaction aluminous enstatite solid solution+sillimanitesapphirine solid solution+quartz was determined experimentally in the pressure range between 12 and 20 kb. It is defined by four reversals at 15 kb, 1140°+10°C; at 1190°C, 15.9±1 kb; at 1300°C, 17.2±1 kb; and at 1400°C, 18±1 kb. Among the coexisting phases the Al-content of the enstatites increases strongly, with rising temperatures and pressures, up to values approaching that of pyrope composition, whereas the Al-content of the sapphirine solid solution appears to increase only slightly. Concomitantly, the sillimanites, most probably of invariant composition, exhibit growing Al/Si-disorder. These compositional and structural variations, in addition to the changing stoichiometry of the reaction equation, cause the progressively decreasing positive dP/dT slope of the equilibrium curve. — The assemblage sapphirine + quartz found in natural granulites is indicative of conditions of water pressure much lower than total pressure.  相似文献

The mineral paragonite, NaAl2[AlSi3O10 (OH)]2, has been synthesized on its own composition starting from a variety of different materials. Indexed powder data and refined cell parameters are given for both the 1M and 2M1 polymorphs obtained. The upper stability limit of paragonite is marked by its breakdown to albite + corundum + vapour. The univariant equilibria pertaining to this reaction have been established by reversing the reaction at six different pressures, the equilibrium curve running through the following intervals: 1 kb: 530°–550° C 2 kb: 555°–575° C 3 kb: 580°–600° C 5kb: 625°–640° C 6 kb: 620°–650° C 7 kb: 650°–670° C.Comparison with the upper stability limit of muscovite (Velde, 1966) shows that paragonite has a notably lower thermal stability thus explaining the field observation that paragonite is absent in many higher grade metamorphic rocks in which muscovite is still stable.The enthalpy and entropy of the paragonite breakdown reaction have been estimated. Since intermediate albites of varying structural states are in equilibrium with paragonite, corundum and H2O along the univariant equilibrium curve, two sets of data pertaining to the entropy of paragonite (S 298 0 ) as well as the enthalpy ( H f,298 0 ) and Gibbs free energy ( G f,298 0 ) of its formation were computed, assuming (1) high albite and (2) low albite as the equilibrium phase. The transmission electron microscope has been used to study the ultrafabric changes and crystal growth during incipient metamorphism (eometamorphism) of a shallow-water microcrystalline Kolhan limestone, Singhbhum district, Bihar. The eometamorphosed limestone is characterized by gradual increase in crystal size, abrupt changes from curvilinear boundaries to strain-induced planar triple junctions, transgranular microcracks and glide planes. The textural details like growth lines, intergranular microcracks and microporosity, and fluid inclusions commonly associated with early neomorphosed limestones have been progressively eliminated by eometamorphism.  相似文献

The Davis Lake pluton (DLP, ~800 km2) of southwestern Nova Scotia, Canada, part of the large peraluminous South Mountain batholith of ca. 380 Ma (U/Pb zircon, Ar/Ar mica), consists of granite and subordinate topaz–muscovite leucogranite that hosts greisen tin-base metal mineralization. A new Pb–Pb isochron age for leucogranite from the most evolved part of the DLP indicates a crystallization age of 378±3.6 Ma, coincident with other radiometric ages of the DLP (Rb–Sr, Re–Os, Pb–Pb). The intrusion displays a compositional zonation defined by lead and strontium isotopic ratios, as well as some major elements (e.g., Si, F), incompatible trace elements (e.g., Li, Rb, Ta, U, Sn), and elemental ratios (e.g., K/Rb and Nb/Ta). The greisens and the leucogranites that host them are characterized by extreme radiogenic compositions for Pb and Sr, and their chemical-isotopic trends are extensions of the trends displayed by the less evolved granites. The covariations of the isotopic ratios with several major and trace elements and elemental ratios as well as the Pb–Pb and Rb–Sr isochrones indicate that all phases of the intrusion originated from a homogeneous parental magma. The granitoid magma underwent extensive fractional crystallization of feldspars, minor biotite and accessory minerals (monazite, apatite and zircon) in a compositionally zoned magma chamber that was subsequently accompanied by fluid fractionation, during which time the internally derived fluorine-rich fluids modified the Rb/Sr, U/Pb and Th/Pb ratios, leading to distinct variations of 87Sr/86Sr, 206Pb/204Pb, 238U/204Pb and 232Th/204Pb isotopic ratios. These data therefore document the evolution of a granitic magma through magmatic (i.e., crystal fractionation), orthomagmatic (i.e., crystal-fluid fractionation) and hydrothermal (i.e., fluid fractionation) stages that culminated in the formation of a tin-base metal deposit.
