There are numerous methods to prevent seepage flow and ground improvement methodologies such as cement grouting, sheet piling, and the membrane method. In this paper, we present case histories of freezing technology applications in the construction of a deep tunnel sewerage system, undersea highway tunnel, and liquefied natural gas tank. Heaving pressure measurements for various soil types around a liquefied natural tank are compared with existing data. In this paper, we present temperature variations at the bottom and side of a liquefied natural gas tank. Our findings show that ground-freezing technology is very effective in controlling ground water infiltration into underground structures as well providing soil reinforcement in the soft ground. 相似文献

We reanalyzed 3D seismic reflection and logging‐while‐drilling data from the toe of the northern Barbados accretionary prism to interpret structure, deformation, and fluid flow related to subduction processes. The seafloor amplitude and coherence reveal an abrupt change in the thrust orientation from NNE at the thrust front and north and NNW about 5 km west of the thrust front. These thrust sets are separated by a triangular‐shaped quiet area, which may represent a zone of low strength. The northeast‐trending band of strong negative amplitude and high coherence in the décollement, known to be an interval of arrested consolidation, overlaps the quiet area, suggesting that the arrested consolidation may be related to the lack of thrust imbrication, and thus, vertical drainage for fluid in the accretionary prism. Fractal analysis of the décollement and top of the subducting oceanic basement indicates that the relief of the décollement correlates with the topography of the oceanic basement. Differential compaction of the underthrust sediment overlying the rugged oceanic basement, together with the basement faults that penetrate into the décollement probably caused relief or even faulting in the décollement. 相似文献

Although horizon interpretation is a routine task for building reservoir models and accurately estimating hydrocarbon production volumes, it is a labour-intensive and protracted process. Hence, many scientists have worked to improve the horizon interpretation efficiency via auto-picking algorithms. Nevertheless, the implementation of a classic auto-tracking method becomes challenging when addressing reflections with weak and discontinuous signals, which are associated with complicated structures. As an alternative, we propose a workflow consisting of two steps: (1) the computation of strata histograms using transdimensional Markov-chain Monte Carlo and (2) horizon auto-tracking using waveform-based auto-tracking guided by those strata histograms. These strata histograms generate signals that are vertically sharper and more laterally continuous than original seismic signals; therefore, the proposed workflow supports the propagation of waveform-based auto-picking without terminating against complicated geological structures. We demonstrate the performance of the novel horizon auto-tracking workflow through seismic data acquired from the Gulf of Mexico, and the Markov-chain Monte Carlo inversion results are validated using log data. The auto-tracked results show that the proposed method can successfully expand horizon seed points even though the seismic signal continuity is relatively low around salt diapirs and large-scale faults. 相似文献

The high nutrient concentration associated with the mixing dynamics of two warm and cold water masses supports high primary production in the Yellow Sea. Although various environmental changes have been reported, no recent information on small phytoplankton contribution to the total primary production as an important indicator for marine ecosystem changes is currently available in the Yellow Sea. The major objective of this study is to determine the small (< 2 μm) phytoplankton contribution to the total primary production in the Yellow Sea during August, 2016. In this study, we found relatively lower chlorophyll a concentrations in the water column than those previously reported in the central waters of the Yellow Sea. Moreover, the overall contribution of small phytoplankton (53.1%) to the total chlorophyll a concentration was considerably higher in this study than that (10.7%) observed previously. Based on the N/P ratio (67.6 ± 36.6) observed in this study, which is significantly higher than the Redfield ratio (16), we believe that phytoplankton experienced P-limiting conditions during the study period. The average daily carbon uptake rate of total phytoplankton in this study was 291.1 mg C m-2 d-1 (± 165.0 mg C m-2 d-1) and the rate of small phytoplankton was 205.7 mg C m-2 d-1 (± 116.0 mg C m-2 d-1) which is 71.9% (± 8.8%) of the total daily carbon uptake rate. This contribution of small phytoplankton observed in this study appears to be higher than that reported previously. Our recent measured primary production is approximately 50% lower than the previous values decades ago. The higher contributions of small phytoplankton to the total chlorophyll a concentration and primary production might be caused by P-limited conditions and this resulted in lower chlorophyll a concentration and total primary production in this study compared to previous studies. 相似文献

The actinium abundance in the atmospheres of red supergiants PMMR23 and PMMR144 in the Small Magellanic Cloud and RM_1-667 in the Large Magellanic Cloud was estimated. The results of spectral observations with the ESO 3.6-m telescope with resolving power R = 30000 were used. Since actinium was not found in the atmospheres of PMMR23 and PMMR144, only the upper limits were set on its abundance: logN(Ac/H) <–15.1 and–15.0, respectively. The estimated abundance of actinium in the atmosphere of RM_1-667 varied with parameters of the atmospheric model from–14.1 to–13.3. The lines of ionized actinium λ 616.475 nm and λ 581.085 nm were used in this analysis. 相似文献

When a source star is gravitationally microlensed by a dark lens, the centroid of the source star image is displaced relative to the position of the unlensed source star, with an elliptical trajectory. Recently, routine astrometric follow-up measurements of these source star image centroid shifts by using high-precision interferometers have been proposed to measure the lens proper motion, which can resolve the lens parameter degeneracy in the photometrically determined Einstein time-scale. When an event is caused by a bright lens, on the other hand, the astrometric shift is affected by the light from the lens, but one cannot identify the existence of the bright lens from the observed trajectory because the resulting trajectory of the bright lens event is also an ellipse. As results, lensing parameters determined from the trajectory differ from those of a dark lens event, causing an incorrect identification of the lens population. In this paper, we show that although the shape and size of the astrometric centroid shift trajectory are changed because of the bright lens, the angular speed of centroid shifts around the apparent position of the unlensed source star is not affected by the lens brightness. Therefore, one can identify the existence of a bright lens and determine its brightness by comparing the lens parameters determined from the 'angular speed curve' with those determined from the trajectory of observed centroid shifts. Once the lens brightness is determined, one can correct for the lens proper motion. As the proposed method provides information about both the lens brightness (dark or bright) and the corrected values of the physical parameters of the lens, one can constrain the nature of massive compact halo objects (MACHOs) significantly better. 相似文献

The dynamic characteristics of a circular cylindrical shell in contact with a liquid are theoretically studied. The cantilevered cylindrical shell with open ends is partially submerged in a liquid which is unbounded in the radial direction, but bounded by a rigid and flat bottom. Since the liquid is assumed to be incompressible and inviscid, the liquid motion can be described as the velocity potentials written in terms of the appropriate Bessel functions for both the inner and the outer liquid regions. The compatibility of the dynamic displacement along the contacting surfaces between the shell and liquid leads the resulting equations, satisfying both the shell and liquid motions, which are solved by using the collocation method. Finally, the Rayleigh–Ritz method is applied to extract the wet natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the liquid-coupled system. The validity of the theoretical method is established with the aid of a commercial finite element computer code. In order to evaluate the dynamic characteristics of the liquid-coupled system, the effects of the submerged depth and the axial gap between the bottom end of the shell and the bottom surface of the liquid are demonstrated. 相似文献

This paper deals with the static structural test of 1.5-ton test WIG (Wing-In-Ground effect) craft designed and built to verify its aero/hydro-dynamic and structural design characteristics prior to the design of full scale 20-passenger WIG craft. The test WIG craft is scaled down from its full scale WIG craft by 1/2 and built using pre-preg carbon/epoxy composites for the majority of structural parts with metallic materials for fittings used at wings to hull connections. To initiate the test, the finite element (FE) models of the test WIG craft are developed and, based on their results, the details of applied load range, strain/deflection gauge types and locations, load application methods and data acquisition system specifications are determined. The test is performed with respect to main wings to hull connection part first and then vertical tail wing to hull connection part and, finally, horizontal tail wing to vertical tail wing/hull connection part. Both the test and FE model results are compared with respect to stresses and deflections and the comparison shows good correlation between them which implies satisfactory design and building of 1.5-ton test WIG craft. 相似文献
