The Joint Committee for Guides in Metrology (JCGM) has introduced a revised third edition of the International Vocabulary of Metrology – basic and general concepts and associated terms ( VIM: 2008 ) that replaces the second edition which was published in 1993. This article includes a table containing the terms and definitions that are most relevant to geoanalysis, designed to extend awareness and to promote best practice in the use of this terminology. Comparison is made, where appropriate, with definitions from the earlier 1993 definitions, to demonstrate the way in which thinking in metrological concepts has evolved over this time period. 相似文献

Over the last decade growth in spatial information use for disaster management has been considerable. Maps and spatial data are now recognized as critical elements in each of the four phases of disaster management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. The use of spatial information to support the phases of mitigation, preparedness and response to bushfires is widely understood. Less attention, however, has been given to the role of spatial information in the recovery. Moreover, the application of the spatially enabled society concept to bushfire recovery has not been explored. This paper explores the role that spatial information plays and could play in the recovery phase of a bushfire disaster. The bushfires in Victoria, Australia that took place during February 2009 are used as the primary case study. It is found that: Spatial information for recovery requires a pre-existing infrastructure; Spatial capacity must be developed across agencies dealing with recovery; Spatially enabled address and parcel information are the key dataset required to support all recovery tasks; Spatial integration of bushfire datasets (spread and intensity) require linking with planning regimes, and Spatial information that is volunteered could be incorporated into recovery activities. 相似文献

The West Coast dusky kob Argyrosomus coronus is a commercially exploited fish with a distribution confined to the Angola–Benguela Frontal Zone (ABFZ) of the southeastern Atlantic Ocean. A previous study revealed that during a recent period of local warming the species extended its distribution into Namibian waters, where it hybridised with the resident and congeneric Argyrosomus inodorus. Environmental changes are a major threat to marine biodiversity and when combined with overfishing have the potential to accelerate the decline of species. However, little is known regarding the evolutionary history and population structure of A. coronus across the ABFZ. We investigated genetic diversity, population structure and historical demographic changes using mtDNA control region sequences and genotypes at six nuclear microsatellite loci, from 180 individuals. A single, genetically homogeneous population was indicated across the distributional range of A. coronus (φST = 0.041, FST = 0.000, D = 0.000; p > 0.05). These findings imply that the oceanographic features within the ABFZ do not appear to significantly influence population connectivity in A. coronus, which simplifies management of the species. However, reconstruction of the demographic history points to a close link between the evolutionary history of A. coronus and the environmental characteristics of the ABFZ. This outcome suggests the species’ vulnerability to the rapid environmental changes being observed across this region, and highlights a pressing need for transboundary management to mitigate the impacts of climate change in this global hotspot of seawater temperature changes. 相似文献

三峡水库运行后,水库水位每年将在145m~162m~175m间波动,库水位的浸泡软化作用及水位升降引起的地下水位的波动将会降低库岸岩土体的抗剪强度,影响已有滑坡的稳定性.因此,在实际水库运行条件下滑坡的稳定性是目前迫切需要研究的重要课题.针对库区大型复杂滑坡——金乐滑坡,分析了该滑坡的工程地质条件和形成机制;建立了二维有限元计算模型并选择合理的岩土力学参数;利用英国帝国理工学院ICFEP有限元软件,依据水库实际运行曲线,在一年时间内分7种不同的模拟状态进行了模拟.结果表明:(1)金乐滑坡在天然状态下处于稳定状态;(2)库水位上升状态下,滑坡前缘稳定性较相应的稳定水位状态较好;(3)水位下降状态,滑坡前缘将出现破坏,特别是162m下降至145m时,滑坡前缘出现破坏,存在中前部渐进破坏的可能;(4)金乐滑坡变形破坏形式为牵引渐进式,在一个水位波动周期内不存在整体滑移的危险.建议对滑坡前缘进行治理. 相似文献

We describe an archive of high-precision MDI flat fields that can be used to refine most MDI high-resolution continuum data.
The archive consists of many flat-field images representing different time ranges over the full operating period of SOHO.
The residual flat-field error on the standard level 1.5/1.8 calibrated continuum images represents a significant proportion
(25% – 100%) of the true data variation data on the quiet sun. Using the flat fields in this archive will reduce that error
by a factor of 10 – 30, greatly increasing the accuracy of any tracking or photometric operations. The access, use and accuracy

The abstraction of ground water by vegetation and its influence on the behaviour of geotechnical structures such as pavements, foundations and slopes has been researched for many years. In recent years, the use of numerical methods in geotechnical engineering has rapidly increased. A major challenge for numerical modelers involves the specification of the surface flow boundary condition to model root water uptake by vegetation. The abstraction of ground water by roots is a complex process which involves the interaction of the atmosphere, vegetation and the ground. Accurate prediction of the pore water pressure changes induced by vegetation requires the development of algorithms which can mimic the process of transpiration by vegetation in the continuity equation of fluid flow. This paper presents a root water uptake model which has been coded into a finite element program that can perform coupled (mechanical and fluid flow behaviour) analyses. The input data includes rainfall, potential evapotranspiration and maximum root depth. The key features of the model are discussed first, followed by a presentation of results from a series of parametric studies. 相似文献

Abundances of some rare-earth elements (REE) in twelve pillow lavas from the Upper Pillow Lavas and Axis Sequence of the Troodos Massif are reported. The samples consist of three fresh basalts and nine zeolite facies metabasalts, metamorphosed at temperatures between 0 and 200° C. All give similar light rare-earth element (LREE) depleted patterns, indicating that hydrothermal metamorphism within this temperature range does not appreciably affect these REE patterns. The LREE depletion is consistent with a petrogenetic model in which Troodos formed at a spreading axis. Variations in profile shape indicate that mantle melting beneath the axis may have taken place during a series of discrete episodes. 相似文献

Eleven samples of Skye granites, two samples of Torridonian sandstone and one sample of Lewisian gneiss have been analysed for ten rare earth elements (REE) by neutron activation analysis. The granites are representative of the main granite centres and compositional types. All granites have sub-parallel light-REE-enriched patterns with chondrite-normalised Ce(CeN) = 78–263,YbN = 16–60and CeN/YbN = 2.9–8.0. REE patterns for the Lewisian gneiss and Torridonian sandstone are similar to each other, withCeN = 32–61,YbN = 3–5and CeN/YbN = 8–18. These two rock types as well as the Glamaig granite have negligible Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* > 0.9), and the other granites have Eu/Eu* in the range 0.83-0.34. The REE evidence suggests that Lewisian gneiss or Torridonian sandstone arenot suitable materials from which the granites could be derived by partial melting. The Western Red Hills granite intrusions show a systematic relation of REE content with Eu/Eu*. We suggest that the Glamaig granite is the most primitive, and was derived from a source with no Eu anomaly by fractional crystallization of a more basic magma. The later Western Red Hills granites might then have resulted from further fractional crystallization of magma with a composition like that of the Glamaig granite. The Coire Uaigneich and Eastern Red Hills granites may also be products of fractional crystallization, but from different magmas to those parental to the Western Red Hills granites. The basaltic parent magmas of the Skye granites may be “continental” tholeiites derived by interaction of basalt magma with Lewisian gneiss. 相似文献

Geochemical analyses of granitic rocks from southwest England reveal that the rare earth elements (REE) were potentially mobile during hydrothermal and supergene alteration. In particular, trivalent REE were removed from the system during K-silicate alteration, Eu was lost during sericitic alteration; all REE were lost during tourmalinization, and light REE were lost during chloritization and argillic alteration. The fluids themselves had low concentrations of REE; in only one case (chloritization) were heavy REE introduced during alteration. Analysis of separated minerals indicated that the behaviour of the REE could be partly explained in terms of their different affinities for the primary and secondary assemblages. Thermodynamic calculations indicated that REE mobility is enhanced by the presence of fluorine in the alteration fluids partly because REE form more stable complexes with F than with Cl and partly because elements such as Ti, Zr and P that form REE-bearing minor phases are themselves potentially mobile. 相似文献
