A National Survey to Examine Teacher Professional Development and Implementation of Desktop GIS

ABSTRACT

This article examines the results of an online national survey of K–12 educators who attended a series of GIS training workshops conducted by the authors between 1998 and 2004. Data from the self-report survey (N = 186) suggest new information about potential changes in instruction and assessment patterns following GIS training. The survey provides insight for those designing GIS-based professional development, while simultaneously describing relatively little change in instructional methodology. The survey confirms some classroom implementation constraints from an earlier national implementation survey, identifying a lack of time for teachers, variable skill levels among students, and software complexity.  相似文献   

Teaching American Indian Geography and History with New Perspectives: The Lodge Pole River Project Example

Abstract

A three-year institute called “The Lodge Pole River Project” was designed to change educator perceptions of American Indian historical geography and encourage the creation of balanced and culturally sensitive American Indian K-12 curriculum. This project offered unique opportunities to assess a geography institute's impact upon teacher knowledge and perceptions towards Native people and pedagogical approaches to teaching about American Indians and their landscapes. The assessment suggests that three weeks of field work, archival research, and curriculum writing increased participant knowledge of American Indian history and culture, solidified sympathetic perceptions and attitudes towards Native people, and strengthened the ability of educators to offer different interpretations of American Indian geography and history to their students.  相似文献

过完备字典稀疏表示的云图超分辨率算法

提出一种基于过完备字典稀疏表示的云图超分辨率算法。首先,联合训练针对低分辨率与高分辨率云图块的两个字典Dl和Dh,保证对应的低分辨率与高分辨率云图块关于各自的字典具有相似的稀疏表示;其次,通过求解优化问题,获得待处理云图每个低分辨率云图块关于Dl的稀疏表示,并将表示系数用于Dh以生成对应的高分辨率云图块;最后,运用最速下降算法,得到满足重构约束的高分辨率云图。红外与可见光云图的数值实验验证了本文算法的有效性,表明本文算法在视觉效果及PSNR指标上均优于插值方法。  相似文献

虚拟仿真技术是目前计算机科学研究热点,将虚拟仿真技术应用到非开挖领域是非开挖教学及研究的发展趋势。针对水平定向钻进（Horizontal Directional Drilling,HDD）这一非开挖的主要施工工法,采用SolidWorks、3ds MAX、Photoshop等软件对三维场景、钻机以及钻头等施工设备进行三维建模,通过研究场景漫游技术、多摄像机跟随技术、物理效应仿真技术和轨迹记录及跟随等技术在Unity3D平台上开发培训系统,并将系统发布至桌面系统。该系统具有场景漫游、多视角显示、控制钻进、显示参数功能。测试结果表明培训系统运行流畅,场景切换迅速,具有良好的三维展示和教学功能。  相似文献

Recent debates about the state of geography raise valuable questions about how the discipline can and should change in response to shifting institutional realities. Focusing on the breadth and interdisciplinarity of geography, these discussions often overlook the role of pedagogy—particularly graduate training—in adapting the discipline to new institutional landscapes. Drawing on experiences as current and recent geography doctoral students, we identify institutional seedlings of opportunity that can be cultivated toward a spectrum of alternative doctoral training models. These alternatives offer significant opportunities to better prepare early-career geographers for success and to solidify geography's position as a leader in interdisciplinary research.  相似文献   

基于不确定性的大样本集抽样设计

本文研究是针对全球森林覆盖变化检测系统的大训练样本选择的优化问题。样本自动标记系统自动标记了"千万个"代表森林和非森林的像元。为了提高精度和效率,我们需要从千万个样本的大样本集中选择对训练分类器有益的样本。本文提出了两种方法:第一种方法是传统的分层等距离采样;第二种方法是基于不确定性的样本优化,通过研究相同样本间的相似性度量指标、样本不确定性度量指标及样本特征空间分布,来实现基于不确定性的训练样本选择策略。实验通过精度评价验证了基于不确定性的采样策略能比传统的分层等距离采样策略获得好的效果。  相似文献
