ABSTRACT This article examines the results of an online national survey of K–12 educators who attended a series of GIS training workshops conducted by the authors between 1998 and 2004. Data from the self-report survey (N = 186) suggest new information about potential changes in instruction and assessment patterns following GIS training. The survey provides insight for those designing GIS-based professional development, while simultaneously describing relatively little change in instructional methodology. The survey confirms some classroom implementation constraints from an earlier national implementation survey, identifying a lack of time for teachers, variable skill levels among students, and software complexity. 相似文献

Abstract A three-year institute called “The Lodge Pole River Project” was designed to change educator perceptions of American Indian historical geography and encourage the creation of balanced and culturally sensitive American Indian K-12 curriculum. This project offered unique opportunities to assess a geography institute's impact upon teacher knowledge and perceptions towards Native people and pedagogical approaches to teaching about American Indians and their landscapes. The assessment suggests that three weeks of field work, archival research, and curriculum writing increased participant knowledge of American Indian history and culture, solidified sympathetic perceptions and attitudes towards Native people, and strengthened the ability of educators to offer different interpretations of American Indian geography and history to their students. 相似文献

虚拟仿真技术是目前计算机科学研究热点,将虚拟仿真技术应用到非开挖领域是非开挖教学及研究的发展趋势。针对水平定向钻进(Horizontal Directional Drilling,HDD)这一非开挖的主要施工工法,采用SolidWorks、3ds MAX、Photoshop等软件对三维场景、钻机以及钻头等施工设备进行三维建模,通过研究场景漫游技术、多摄像机跟随技术、物理效应仿真技术和轨迹记录及跟随等技术在Unity3D平台上开发培训系统,并将系统发布至桌面系统。该系统具有场景漫游、多视角显示、控制钻进、显示参数功能。测试结果表明培训系统运行流畅,场景切换迅速,具有良好的三维展示和教学功能。 相似文献

Recent debates about the state of geography raise valuable questions about how the discipline can and should change in response to shifting institutional realities. Focusing on the breadth and interdisciplinarity of geography, these discussions often overlook the role of pedagogy—particularly graduate training—in adapting the discipline to new institutional landscapes. Drawing on experiences as current and recent geography doctoral students, we identify institutional seedlings of opportunity that can be cultivated toward a spectrum of alternative doctoral training models.
