One of the possible consequences of climatic change for streams and rivers in the pampean region of South America is an increment in nutrient loads. To analyze this possible perturbation on a biological scale, the response of oligochaetes to an experimental eutrophication of the La Choza Stream, Argentina was studied. We proposed that the addition of nutrients could increase the abundance, biomass, and species composition of the stream. Two stretches (Control and Treatment sites) were selected, with bimonthly samples being taken (March 2007 through February 2009) in two habitat types: the sediments and the aquatic vegetation. On each sampling occasion the environmental variables were measured. The nutrient addition consisted in the continuous dissolution of a commercial fertilizer. The oligochaete mean density and total biomass, the taxonomic richness, the Shannon diversity (H′), and the evenness (E) were calculated and the BACI ANOVA design used to compare the differences between the sites. Thirty-three species of the families Naididae (Naidinae, Pristininae, Tubificinae, and Rhyacodrilinae), Opistocystidae, Enchytraeidae plus Aphanoneura Aeolosomatidae were collected. The oligochaete abundance and biomass increased significantly in the sediments and on the aquatic vegetation, especially among the Naidinae and Pristininae during their asexual reproductive phase. The diversity and evenness varied significantly in the sediments with the nutrient addition. Significant differences in the species richness and diversity were found on the aquatic vegetation, with both increasing at the treatment site after the fertilization. A significant correlation (Spearman) was observed between the oligochaete density in the sediments and the NO3-N and NH4-N concentration in the water. The increment in the naidines resistant to the fertilizer throughout the experiment could be explained by the greater nutrient availability, their mode of reproduction, and their short life cycles. The results of our study suggested that the incorporation of nutrients modified the composition of the oligochaete assemblage in favor of herbivores and detrivores. The usefulness of these indicator organisms in monitoring freshwater systems is subsequently discussed.  相似文献

The analysis of remotely sensed images provides a powerful method for estimating tree abundance. However, a number of trees have sizes that are below the spatial resolution of remote sensing images, and as a result they cannot be observed and classified. We propose a method for estimating the number of such sub-resolution trees on forest stands. The method is based on a backwards extrapolation of the size-class distribution of trees as observed from the remotely sensed images. We apply our method to a tree database containing around 13,000 tree individuals to determine the number of sub-resolution trees. While the proposed method is formulated for estimating tree abundance from remotely sensed images, it is generally applicable to any database containing tree canopy surface area data with a minimum size cut-off.  相似文献

We sampled different substrates (sand, gravel, leaf litter and stones) in the rainy and dry season to study the distribution and composition of benthic macroinvertebrates in tropical streams (northeastern Brazil). Benthic macroinvertebrates were distributed according to the substrates, with stones showing a higher richness and abundance of species and abundance of collector-gatherers and filter-collectors. The results of the PCoA showed a separation of stones from the other substrates and similarities between sand and gravel.  相似文献

Although propane gas (C3H8) was first detected in the stratosphere of Titan by the Voyager IRIS infrared spectrometer in 1980, obtaining an accurate measurement of its abundance has proved difficult. All existing measurements have been made by modeling the ν26 band at : however, different analyzes over time have yielded quite different results, and it also suffers from confusion with the strong nearby ν5 band of acetylene. In this paper we select large spectral averages of data from the Cassini Composite Infrared Spectrometer (CIRS) obtained in limb-viewing mode at low latitudes (30°S-30°N), greatly increasing the path length and hence signal-to-noise ratio for optically thin trace species such as propane. By modeling and subtracting the emissions of other gas species, we demonstrate that at least six infrared bands of propane are detected by CIRS, including two not previously identified in Titan spectra. Using a new linelist for the range 1300-1400 cm-1, along with an existing GEISA list, we retrieve propane abundances from two bands at 748 and 1376 cm-1. At 748 cm-1 we retrieve 4.2±0.5×10-7 (1-σ error) at 2 mbar, in good agreement with previous studies, although lack of hotbands in the present spectral atlas remains a problem. We also determine 5.7±0.8×10-7 at 2 mbar from the 1376 cm-1 band — a value that is probably affected by systematic errors including continuum gradients due to haze and also an imperfect model of the ν6 band of ethane. This study clearly shows for the first time the ubiquity of propane's emission bands across the thermal infrared spectrum of Titan, and points to an urgent need for further laboratory spectroscopy work, both to provide the line positions and intensities needed to model these bands, and also to further characterize haze spectral opacity. The present lack of accurate modeling capability for propane is an impediment not only for the measurement of propane itself, but also for the search for the emissions of new molecules in many spectral regions.  相似文献

Establishment and growth of three perennial herbs and a small tussock grass were studied in an experiment that provided simulated rainfall of 6 mm week−1 or 25 mm once per month and nitrogen fertilization in combination with the different simulated rainfall regimes. Wild onion, Allium macropetalum, failed to establish in plots receiving 25 mm month−1 simulated rainfall. The perennial composite, Bahia absinthifolia, occurred at higher densities in plots that were not irrigated but there were no differences in biomass in any of the irrigation or fertilization treatments. Desert holly, Perezia nana, failed to establish in nitrogen fertilized plots and developed higher abundance and biomass in plots receiving 25 mm month−1. Nitrogen fertilization had either no effect or an adverse effect on the perennial herbs. The tussock grass, Dasychloa pulchella exhibited highest abundance and biomass with 6 mm week−1 added water plus nitrogen. Since global climate change will affect both rain storm frequency and size and atmospheric nitrogen deposition, the results of this study are applicable to understanding vegetation responses climate change.  相似文献

We investigated the spatial distribution and composition of microbenthos in the seafloor sediments from 48 stations in the Yellow Sea using epifluorescence microscopy and quantitative protargol staining techniques. The bacterial abundance ranged from 2.4×108 to 1.9×109 cells cm−3 in the wet sediment, about three orders of magnitude higher than that of phototrophic (PNFs, from 6.4×105 to 8.8×106 cells cm−3) and heterotrophic nanoflagellates (HNFs, from 5.8×104 to 5.9×106 cells cm−3) and four orders of magnitude higher than that of cyanobacteria (from 2.3×104 to 2.3×106 cells cm−3) in the upper 5 cm of sediments. The abundance of diatoms varied greatly, from 3-1.1×105 cells cm−3 in the upper 8 cm of sediments, whereas those of heterotrophic microflagellates (HMFs, 1-182 cells cm−3) and ciliates (1-221 cells cm−3) were less varied and lower. The biomass partitioning indicates the primary importance of benthic bacteria (50.3 μg C cm−3 on average), followed by PNFs (40.7 μg C cm−3), HNFs (19.3 μg C cm−3), and finally by cyanobacteria (8.8 μg C cm−3). Benthic diatoms (0.8 μg C cm−3), ciliates (0.15 μg C cm−3), and HMFs (0.03 μg C cm−3) contribute relatively small fractions to the total biomass of the microbenthos. About 95% of diatoms, 77% of ciliates, and 56% of HMFs were distributed in the upper 2 cm of sediments, whereas no distinct vertical distributions were observed for bacteria, cyanobacteria, PNFs, and HNFs. The microbenthos are quantitatively important in the shallow seafloor, wherein their main components have an average abundance three orders of magnitude higher than the corresponding planktonic organisms in the same sea area. Our estimates indicate that pico-sized phytobenthos might contribute a large proportion to the primary production. Benthic ciliates and heterotrophic flagellates contribute about 90% to the estimated combined metabolic rate of micro- and meiobenthic consumers in the whole sea area, with nanoheterotrophs accounting for the majority. The data suggest the potential for the rapid primary and secondary production of microbenthos and detrital utilization in the shallow seafloor sediments of the Yellow Sea.  相似文献

测定了采自喜马拉雅和冈底斯地块露头和钻孔的97块岩石标本的放射性生热率(A),结果表明:藏南花岗岩(n=12)和藏北花岗岩(n=24)的平均生热率A值分别为3.2±1.5μW/m~3和2.6±1.6μW/m~3,与全球17个热流省的统计数据相比,两者均具有中等的放射性生热元素丰度;两者的平均钍铀比十分接近,分别为4.4±2.7和4.5±1.4,岩浆分异程度属中等。这些说明了:(1)本文作者在前期研究中选用的A值量级是适宜的;(2)花岗岩类作为壳内主要的放射性生热岩层,其生热率A值并未呈现异常量级。换言之,应着重从构造演化过程及其诱发的深部热作用机制,探讨藏南藏北高热流异常的成因。  相似文献

This study presents a new approach to examining European chiton habitat use according to morphological characteristics. Time‐search transects were conducted on four Portuguese rocky shores at two shore levels. The chiton species, abundance and individual morphometric features were recorded and related to the substratum dominant epiphytes and surface roughness. The chiton Lepidochitona cinerea (Linnaeus 1767) was the dominant species (77%), followed by Leptochiton algesirensis (Capellini 1859) (15%) and Acanthochitona crinita (Pennant 1777) (8%). Species abundance did not vary significantly with shore level or amongst shores. Six colour morphs were considered for Lepidochitona cinerea, four for A. crinita and one for Lepidochiton algesirensis. Substratum characteristics significantly explained the variation in species and colour morph distribution. There was a high correlation between the presence/absence and type of epiphytic algae and the substratum surface roughness level. We hypothesize that three mechanisms operating either independently or in interaction may explain the non‐random distribution of colour polymorphisms according to their habitat characteristics: (i) presence of algae that are part of their diet; (ii) use of rock as shelter – for instance, crevices and cover resulting from algae fronds and; (iii) morph–rock colour matching as a camouflage mechanism to reduce predation pressure.  相似文献
