Euphotic zone gross primary production, community respiration and net community production were determined from in vitro changes of dissolved oxygen, and from in vivo INT reduction capacity fractionated into two size classes, in offshore waters along a latitudinal transect crossing the North, Norwegian and Greenland Seas between the UK and Svalbard. Rates of gross primary production were higher and more variable than community respiration, so net autotrophy prevailed in the euphotic zone with an average net community production of 164±64 mmol O2 m−2 d−1. Respiration seemed to be mainly attributed to large eukaryotic cells (>0.8 µm) with smaller cells, mainly bacteria, accounting for a mean of 25% (range 5–48%) of community respiration. Estimates of bacterial growth efficiency were very variable (range 7–69%) due to uncoupling between bacterial respiration and production. Larger cells tended to contribute more towards total respiration in communities with high gross primary production and low community respiration, while bacteria contributed more towards total respiration in communities with lower gross primary production, typical of microbial-dominated systems. This suggests that community respiration is related to the size structure of the plankton community.  相似文献

Modern Ca:Mg carbonate stromatolites form in association with the microbial mat in the hypersaline coastal lagoon, Lagoa Vermelha (Brazil). The stromatolites, although showing diversified fabrics characterized by thin or crude lamination and/or thrombolitic clotting, exhibit a pervasive peloidal microfabric. The peloidal texture consists of dark, micritic aggregates of very high‐Mg calcite and/or Ca dolomite formed by an iso‐oriented assemblage of sub‐micron trigonal polyhedrons and organic matter. Limpid acicular crystals of aragonite arranged in spherulites surround these aggregates. Unlike the aragonite crystals, organic matter is present consistently in the dark, micritic carbonate comprising the peloids. This organic matter is observed as sub‐micron flat and filamentous mucus‐like structures inside the interspaces of the high‐Mg calcite and Ca dolomite crystals and is interpreted as the remains of degraded extracellular polymeric substances. Moreover, many fossilized bacterial cells are associated strictly with both carbonate phases. These cells consist mainly of 0·2 to 4 μm in diameter, sub‐spherical, rod‐like and filamentous forms, isolated or in colony‐like clusters. The co‐existence of fossil extracellular polymeric substances and bacterial bodies, associated with the polyhedrons of Ca:Mg carbonate, implies that the organic matter and microbial metabolism played a fundamental role in the precipitation of the minerals that form the peloids. By contrast, the lack of extracellular polymeric substances in the aragonitic phase indicates an additional precipitation mechanism. The complex processes that induce mineral precipitation in the modern Lagoa Vermelha microbial mat appear to be recorded in the studied lithified stromatolites. Sub‐micron polyhedral crystal formation of high‐Mg calcite and/or Ca dolomite results from the coalescence of carbonate nanoglobules around degraded organic matter nuclei. Sub‐micron polyhedral crystals aggregate to form larger ovoidal crystals that constitute peloids. Subsequent precipitation of aragonitic spherulites around peloids occurs as micro‐environmental water conditions around the peloids change.  相似文献

副溶血弧菌(Vibrio parahaemolyticus)是一种嗜盐性革兰氏阴性菌, 广泛分布于海洋环境中, 能够引起肠胃炎、伤口感染以及败血症, 是人类重要的病原菌之一。宿主体内被认为是一种低铁环境, 能够激发致细菌的毒力。副溶血弧菌能够分泌弧菌素或利用外源铁载体来获取铁。在低铁条件下, 编码双组份调控系统的基因簇VPA0148-VPA0149转录上调, 使含铁肠杆菌素受体PeuA转录出有活性的蛋白。VPA0148编码产物为一个响应调节因子, 具有一个磷酸基团接收结构域和一个DNA结合结构域。本研究发现, VPA0148的缺失增强了菌株的生物膜形成能力和对斑马鱼的致死能力, 同时能够促进菌株在低铁环境中的生长, 并增强菌株的群集运动。研究结果表明含铁肠杆菌素受体调节蛋白VPA0148对副溶血弧菌致病力具有调控作用, 增进了对铁调节副溶血弧菌毒力机制的认识。  相似文献

Bacterial wilt (BW) caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is one of the most damaging diseases of potato (Solarium tuberosum L.) in Kenya and worldwide. In Kenya, potato tuber yield losses due to BW infection are estimated at 50 ~ 100%. Low soil fertility is also one of the most important constraints limiting potato production in central Kenya highlands. Farmers tackle this problem through use of inorganic fertilisers and organic manures, both of which amend the soil environment to influence bacterial wilt development. Undecomposed organic manures can also introduce the pathogen into a clean field. Between short rains 1999 and 2000, 10 on-farm extension-researcher-farmer-designed and farmer-managed trials were done at Kianjuki catchment in Embu District. The objective was to use farmers‘ participatory research approach and select the most suitable organic and inorganic fertiliser combination(s) with lowest BWI and acceptable usable tuber yields, and also to demonstrate use of some components of integrated disease management methods in reduction of disease incidence and spread. Seven treatments were proposed, presented to the farmers for discussion and the most relevant four were selected for evaluation. A newly released potato variety ‘Asante‘ was planted during the short rains 1999 and long rains 2000. BWI didn‘t result in significant differences between treatments but the tuber yields were significantly different in short rains of 1999 and 2000. During short rains 2000, both BWI and tuber yields and unusable tubers differed significantly between treatments. The results confirmed that well-decomposed manures or manures from pathogen-free areas can be used in combination with inorganic fertilisers to improve soil fertility and potato tuber yields in smallholder farms without influencing BWI. Use of certified seed tubers in pathogen free field and following recommended field sanitation measures resulted in apparently bacterial wilt free crop. Considering the high cost of inorganic ferfiliser and its negative effects on the environment, reduced usage at half the recommended rates combined with half rates of FYM is feasible option friendly to the farmer, soil and environment. The interviewed farmers also ranked the option as the most appropriate combination for soil fertility improvement for potato production in smallholder farms.  相似文献

天然水体中泥沙颗粒表面容易生长生物膜,生物膜的生长会对泥沙颗粒的运动特性产生显著影响。设计了泥沙颗粒表面生长生物膜的实验,以及生长生物膜后泥沙颗粒的起动水槽实验。在水槽观测段分别放置由去离子水浸泡和天然水培养的两种泥沙,对比观察两种泥沙起动过程的区别,分析起动流速的差异和随培养时间的变化规律。结果表明,天然富营养水体中生物膜生长繁茂,对泥沙起动特性有着显著的影响,能够增强泥沙颗粒的抗冲性,并随时间呈现出先逐步增强到一个最优值后有所削弱的钟形曲线的变化趋势,表明在研究天然河流和湖泊尤其是污染严重的水域的泥沙起动时,需要考虑到生物膜的作用。  相似文献

We investigated the diversity, composition, and assembly processes of sedimentary bacterial communities across Lake Taihu, China, a large, shallow, and eutrophic water body. Amplicon-based 16S rRNA gene high-throughput sequencing identified the composition and phylogenetic structure of the bacterial communities within the 28 collected samples. Diversity analysis revealed that sedimentary bacterial communities demonstrated significant trends with nutrient loading and habitat along latitude. We used network analysis to disentangle the role of keystone taxa in bacterial communities. Most identified keystone species were from the genus Nitrospira (affiliated with Nitrospirae), subphylum Deltaproteobacteria (affiliated with Proteobacteria), subphylum Gammaproteobacteria (affiliated with Proteobacteria), family Rhodocyclaceae (affiliated with Betaproteobacteria), phylum Bacteroidetes, genus Bacillus (affiliated with Firmicutes), and family Anaerolineaceae (affiliated with Chloroflexi) in order of abundance. These keystone taxa play fundamental roles in carbon and nitrogen cycling within Lake Taihu. Phylogenetic structure analysis indicated that the bacterial communities were more phylogenetically clustered than expected by chance and that deterministic processes dominated the assembly of bacterial communities across Lake Taihu. Niche selection was the crucial factor driving the assembly of bacterial communities. This study enhances the understanding of the distribution of sedimentary bacterial communities and their assembly mechanisms across Lake Taihu.  相似文献

海洋无脊椎动物和细菌间的化能合成共生作用的发现,改变了人们对深海热液口初级生产力主要来源的认知.近年的研究表明,营化能合成共生的动物隶属于纤毛门、软体动物门、环节动物门和节肢动物门;其中无脊椎动物作为宿主在与共生菌的长期共生过程中,伴随着部分器官和功能的退化或消失,逐渐形成和演化出了与此相适应的形态结构,并产生了一些特殊的行为;在深海热液口发现的所有化能合成共生菌都属于革兰氏阴性菌,它们的宿主大致可以分为2个群体;通过16 SrRNA基因编码分析,不同代谢类型的共生菌在系统发育中通常处于不同分支,形态也有所差异;共生菌独特的传播方式和进化模式也使其更加适应共生生活;由无脊椎动物和化能合成细菌构成的共生体系与环境相互作用,影响了深海热液口生态系统的演化.对共生菌蛋白质及代谢组学的研究,以及对宿主生理和代谢机制的研究将成为未来热液口化能合成共生作用研究的新热点.  相似文献
