The Olympic Cu–Au Province, Gawler Craton, is host to the Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill iron oxide–copper–gold (IOCG) deposits. Both of these deposits and the region between the two are covered by Neoproterozoic to Cenozoic sediment, making inferences about prospectivity in this portion of the Olympic Domain reliant on geophysical interpretation and sparse drill hole information. We present new U–Pb zircon sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) dates from two basement intersecting drill holes in the region between Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill that show bimodal volcanism occurred at 2555 ± 5 Ma, and was followed by intrusion of tonalite at 2529 ± 6 Ma. Laser 40Ar/39Ar dating of biotite and muscovite from the tonalite yields ages around ca 2000 Ma, consistent with slow cooling trends observed in Archean rocks elsewhere in the northern Gawler Craton. Step heating experiments on K-feldspar from the same tonalite yields an age spectrum with older ages around 1740 Ma from the highest temperature steps becoming progressively younger to a minimum of 1565 Ma in the lowest temperature heating steps; this is consistent with either Paleoproterozic cooling to final closure of K-feldspar by 1565 Ma or a reheating event at ca 1565 Ma, with the latter more likely, given the evidence for sub-solidus alteration of the K-feldspar. Sericite within hematite–sericite–chlorite altered portions of the tonalite yield a poorly defined age of ca 1.6 Ga. Taken together the 40Ar/39Ar data providing evidence for a fluid event affecting this region between Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill during the early Mesoproterozoic. Low temperature quartz–carbonate–adularia veins occur in <10 cm wide fractures within basalt in one drill hole in this region. Adularia from these veins yields 40Ar/39Ar ages that span from ca 1.3–1.1 Ga. This age range is interpreted to approximate either the timing of adularia formation during a hydrothermal event or the timing of resetting of the 40Ar/39Ar systematics within the adularia as a result of fluid flow in this sample. This is evidence for a mid-Mesoproterozoic fluid event in the Gawler Craton and necessitates a reconsideration of the long-term stability of the craton, as it appears to have been affected, at least locally, by fluid flow related to a much larger event within the Australian continent, the Musgrave Orogeny.  相似文献

The eastern Amery Ice Shelf (EAIS) and southwestern Prydz Bay are situated near the junction between the Late Neoproterozoic/Cambrian high-grade complex of the Prydz Belt and the Early Neoproterozoic Rayner Complex. The area contains an important geological section for understanding the tectonic evolution of East Antarctica. SHRIMP U–Pb analyses on zircons of felsic orthogneisses and mafic granulites from the area indicate that their protoliths were emplaced during four episodes of ca. 1380 Ma, ca. 1210–1170 Ma, ca. 1130–1120 Ma and ca. 1060–1020 Ma. Subsequently, these rocks experienced two episodes of high-grade metamorphism at > 970 Ma and ca. 930–900 Ma, and furthermore, most of them (except for some from the Munro Kerr Mountains and Reinbolt Hills) were subjected to high-grade metamorphic recrystallization at ca. 535 Ma. Two suites of charnockite, i.e. the Reinbolt and Jennings charnockites, intrude the Late Mesoproterozoic/Early Neoproterozoic and Late Neoproterozoic/Cambrian high-grade complexes at > 955 Ma and 500 Ma, respectively. These, together with associated granites of similar ages, reflect late- to post-orogenic magmatism occurring during the two major orogenic events. The similarity in age patterns suggests that the EAIS–Prydz Bay region may have suffered from the same high-grade tectonothermal evolution with the Rayner Complex and the Eastern Ghats of India. Three segments might constitute a previously unified Late Mesoproterozoic/Early Neoproterozoic orogen that resulted from the long-term magmatic accretion from ca. 1380 to 1020 Ma and eventual collision before ca. 900 Ma between India and the western portion of East Antarctica. The Prydz Belt may have developed on the eastern margin of the Indo-Antarctica continental block, and the Late Neoproterozoic/Cambrian suture assembling Indo-Antarctica and Australo-Antarctica continental blocks should be located southeastwards of the EAIS–Prydz Bay region.  相似文献

We report the first study of the Re-Os systematics of cobaltite (CoAsS) using disseminated grains and massive sulfides from samples of two breccia-type and two stratabound deposits in the Co-Cu-Au Idaho cobalt belt (ICB), Lemhi subbasin to the Belt-Purcell Basin, Idaho, USA. Using a 185Re + 190Os spike solution, magnetic and non-magnetic fractions of cobaltite mineral separates give reproducible Re-Os analytical data for aliquot sizes of 150 to 200 mg. Cobaltite from the ICB has highly radiogenic 187Os/188Os ratios (17–45) and high 187Re/188Os ratios (600–1800) but low Re and total Os contents (ca. 0.4–4 ppb and 14–64 ppt, respectively). Containing 30 to 74% radiogenic 187Os, cobaltite from the ICB is amenable to Re-Os age determination using the isochron regression approach.Re-Os data for disseminated cobaltite mineralization in a quartz-tourmaline breccia from the Haynes-Stellite deposit yield a Model 1 isochron age of 1349 ± 76 Ma (2σ, n = 4, mean squared weighted deviation MSWD = 2.1, initial 187Os/188Os ratio = 4.7 ± 2.2). This middle Mesoproterozoic age is preserved despite a possible metamorphic overprint or a pulse of metamorphic-hydrothermal remobilization of pre-existing cobaltite that formed along fold cleavages during the ca. 1190–1006 Ma Grenvillian orogeny. This phase of remobilization is tentatively identified by a Model 3 isochron age of 1132 ± 240 Ma (2σ, n = 7, MSWD = 9.3, initial 187Os/188Os ratio of 9.0 ± 2.9) for cobaltite in the quartz-tourmaline breccia from the Idaho zone in the Blackbird mine.All Mesoproterozoic cobaltite mineralization in the district was affected by greenschist- to lower amphibolite-facies (garnet zone) metamorphism during the Late Jurassic to Late Cretaceous Cordilleran orogeny. However, the fine- to coarse-grained massive cobaltite mineralization from the shear zone-hosted Chicago zone, Blackbird mine, is the only studied deposit that has severely disturbed Re-Os systematics with evidence for a linear trend of mixing with (metamorphic?) fluids.The new Re-Os ages and extremely high initial 187Os/188Os ratios of cobaltite reported here favor a magmatic-hydrothermal genetic model for a multi-stage REE-Y-Co-Cu-Au mineralization occurring at ca. 1370 to 1349 Ma, and related to the emplacement of the Big Deer Creek granite pluton at ca. 1377 Ma. In our model, deposition of paragenetically early xenotime and gadolinite was followed by an influx of Mesoproterozoic evaporitic brines and magmatic-hydrothermal fluids containing metals and reduced sulfur derived from mafic and oceanic island-arc Archean to Paleoproterozoic rocks in the Laurentian basement. Cobaltite mineralization occurred upon cooling of these fluids at an inferred temperature of 300 °C or below.  相似文献

华北克拉通是划分我国中元古代地层序列的标准地区,查明华北地区各中元古代盆地的发育与演化机制、寻找长城系下部1. 80~1. 65Ga的沉积盖层、完善1. 4~1. 0Ga待建系标准剖面,是我国中元古代综合地层学研究亟待解答的三个主要问题。现有资料显示,华北北部的燕辽盆地缺失长城系底部地层,南部熊耳盆地各地层小区的蓟县纪-待建纪盆地演化过程差异较大。与之相比,北缘盆地的中元古界相对完整且较连续出露,是系统开展中元古代年代地层学和盆地动力学研究的理想对象。鉴于狼山地区的"中、新元古界"已被重新厘定为新元古界狼山群,中元古代的华北北缘盆地应以渣尔泰群、白云鄂博群、腮林忽洞群和化德群为代表。由于缺乏火山岩夹层年龄的有效约束,与这些地层单元的时代划分、区域对比和盆地类型有关的认识分歧,普遍发端于对碎屑锆石年代学数据的不同理解。因此,本文对渣尔泰群和白云鄂博群的部分层位进行了碎屑锆石年代学研究,并全面收集了北缘盆地碎屑锆石年代学研究的相关数据,参考新近提出的两种统计学分析方法,对渣尔泰群、白云鄂博群(含腮林忽洞群)和化德群的碎屑锆石年龄数据进行了真实沉积时代和盆地构造属性的统计分析。通过设置单点精度高、但样本库计算总量降低的对照组进行方法可信性的对照分析,结果显示样本库总量对统计结果的影响更大,因此利用相关方法解析前寒武纪哑地层的沉积时代和盆地属性,应当遵从"合理降低单点精度限制以谋求更大样本库"的原则。结合前人建立的中元古代沉积-岩浆事件序列,本文分析结果显示中元古代的北缘盆地是在长城纪造山后伸展盆地之上、叠加了蓟县-待建纪裂谷事件而成的多旋回复合盆地。通过北缘和燕辽地区沉积、岩浆事件的综合对比,提出华北克拉通北部的中元古代盆山耦合过程,可分为:由造山后向陆内伸展转换的构造反转期阶段(1. 82~1. 60Ga)、被动裂谷早期的陆内伸展阶段(1. 6~1. 4Ga)、裂谷作用阶段(1. 4~1. 3Ga)和成因机制不明的长期沉积间断阶段(1. 3~1. 0Ga)。  相似文献

华北串岭沟组凝灰岩锆石SHRIMP年龄及其地层学意义   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
华北克拉通燕辽地区是中国中新元古代沉积地层的标准剖面区。蓟县群和青白口群已经取得了很多重要的高精度定年数据,但是长城群除了顶部大红峪组有了高精度定年以外,其他组还缺乏可靠的高精度定年数据。为了准确标定华北克拉通中元古界长城群串岭沟组的年龄,对采自河北宽城地区神仙岭剖面串岭沟组顶部火山岩凝灰岩锆石进行了SHRIMP U-Pb定年。结果表明所测锆石207Pb/206Pb表面年龄加权平均值为(1 634.8±6.9) Ma(95% 置信度,MSWD=1.2,n=23)。可见长城群串岭沟组顶部的准确年龄为(1 634.8±6.9) Ma,表明长城群串岭沟组到大红峪组整体上属于中元古代地层。  相似文献

地球曾经历了3次超大陆演化过程,其中2次超大陆(哥伦比亚(Columbia)和罗迪尼亚(Rodinia))旋回涉及中新元古代,并与一系列区域性事件相联系,形成了多成因的超大陆演化模型。华北中东部新元古代沉积事件、扬子和塔里木新元古代裂谷事件、雪球事件等都被视为Rodinia超大陆的裂解响应,它们对定时三大陆块相互关系及定位其在全球超大陆的位置具有至关重要的作用,也反映了重要沉积地质事件在超大陆研究中不可或缺的作用和意义。此外,在中新元古代的Columbia和Rodinia超大陆演化过程中,还伴随发育具有广泛区域性甚至全球意义的巨厚白云岩与碳酸盐岩微生物(岩)、红层与黑色页岩、全球性臼齿亮晶碳酸盐岩和埃迪卡拉纪盖帽碳酸盐岩等沉积事件群及元素(同位素)漂移等地球化学异常事件,也包括特殊且重要的磷块岩、锰、铁矿等沉积成矿事件。由于不断显示出来在全球古大陆重建和古地理恢复方面的重要作用,它们越来越得到学术界的广泛关注和研究。文中通过系统分析中国中新元古代超大陆旋回演化中发育的部分重要或关键地质事件(群)时空发育与分布特征,并结合作者团队的实际资料和测试数据,以期揭示超大陆演化过程与重要沉积地质事件的内在联系,为超大陆聚散旋回演化和时空定位及原型沉积盆地的发育和评价提供科学证据。  相似文献

We present new U-Pb and Hf zircon isotope data on a suite of granitoids from a hitherto unstudied area of the Palaeoproterozoic Lupa terrane of the Ubendian belt in SW Tanzania.The major part of the area comprises a sequence of upper amphibolite grade paragneisses and migmatites.Subsequently,the field relations show a complex history of granitoid emplacement from early pre-tectonic strongly foliated diorite-tonalite-granodiorite orthogneiss to late tectonic,weakly deformed ellipsoidal granitoid plutons.These were followed by emplacement of undeformed K-feldspar rich porphyritic alkali granite.U-Pb zircon data on the granitoids show their emplacement ages span the period~1925 Ma to 1890 Ma and constrain the culmination of the Ubendian orogeny in the Lupa terrane to about 1900 Ma.The undeformed K-feldspar rich Chimala granite,previously considered to be unconformably overlain by the Buanji Group volcano-sedimentary rocks(recently shown to be~1675 Ma,not Neoproterozoic as originally thought) was dated at~1407 Ma showing that it must intrude the sedimentary rocks,although the age relationships are not exposed in the mapping area.This is the first record of early Irumide/Kibaran-aged post-tectonic granites in this part of East Africa.Hf isotope data from the zircons show that the granitoids have a long crustal pre-history stretching back to as far as~3.9 Ga,and showing that the Lupa terrane may form part of the "metacratonic" margin of an originally much more extensive Tanzania Craton.  相似文献

The Mesoproterozoic Wumishan Formation in the Jixian section of Tianjin is a succession of 3300-m-thick carbonate strata formed in a period of about 100 Ma (1310±20 Ma-1207±10 Ma). In this succession of strata, the carbonate metre-scale cyclic sequences belonging to peritidal type with an approximately symmetrical lithofacies-succession are best developed. The wide development of 1:4 stacking patterns shows that these metre-scale cyclic sequences are genetically related to the short-eccentricity cycles, which are called the Wumishan cyclothems that could truly represent sedimentary cycles. Generally, massive and thick-bedded calcareous dolomites and dolomitic limestones of stromatolite biostromes and thrombolite bioherms constitute the central part of the Wumishan cyclothems. The lower and upper parts consist of tidal flat dolostones, sandy-muddy dolostone and the top part is composed of lagoonal facies dolomitic shales with a paleosol cap. 华北克拉通中北部变质基底发育大规模的前寒武纪基性岩墙群,由于基性岩墙同位素定年技术存在问题,因此一直未获得岩墙群的确切年龄数据。本文利用单颗粒锆石U-Pb化学法,首次获得恒山地区北西向基性岩墙群的U-Pb年龄为1769.1±2.5Ma,并证明它代表基性岩墙群的侵位年龄,这一年龄数据也是华北克拉通大规模分布的未变质基性岩墙群已知的最古老年龄。综合分析同期岩浆活动的同位素年龄记录,本文提出中元古代早期华北的岩浆侵位发生于伸展构造背景下。  相似文献

晋北地区发育大规模的中元古代北北西向岩墙群,未变形和未变质,是华北克拉通前寒武纪构造演化研究的最显著标志,根据本区岩墙群的岩石学和地球化学研究,这些岩墙群的岩石属于板内大陆裂谷玄武岩系列,形成于大陆裂谷拉张的构造环境,与东侧的燕辽-中条拗拉槽内的火山岩岩石化学对比分析,本区岩墙群的基性岩浆可能来自拗拉槽深部,这些基性岩浆从拗拉槽的深部向北西方向侵位于晋北地区先存的构造裂隙中形成了基性岩墙群。  相似文献
