Earth’s fastest present seafloor spreading occurs along the East Pacific Rise near 31°–32° S. Two of the major hydrothermal
plume areas discovered during a 1998 multidisciplinary geophysical/hydrothermal investigation of these mid-ocean ridge axes
were explored during a 1999 Alvin expedition. Both occur in recently eruptive areas where shallow collapse structures mark
the neovolcanic axis. The 31° S vent area occurs in a broad linear zone of collapses and fractures coalescing into an axial
summit trough. The 32° S vent area has been volcanically repaved by a more recent eruption, with non-linear collapses that
have not yet coalesced. Both sites occur in highly inflated areas, near local inflation peaks, which is the best segment-scale
predictor of hydrothermal activity at these superfast spreading rates (150 mm/yr). 相似文献

Two single-channel seismic (SCS) data sets collected in 2000 and 2005 were used for a four-dimensional (4D) time-lapse analysis
of an active cold vent (Bullseye Vent). The data set acquired in 2000 serves as a reference in the applied processing sequence.
The 4D processing sequence utilizes time- and phase-matching, gain adjustments and shaping filters to transform the 2005 data
set so that it is most comparable to the conditions under which the 2000 data were acquired. The cold vent is characterized
by seismic blanking, which is a result of the presence of gas hydrate in the subsurface either within coarser-grained turbidite
sands or in fractures, as well as free gas trapped in these fracture systems. The area of blanking was defined using the seismic
attributes instantaneous amplitude and similarity. Several areas were identified where blanking was reduced in 2005 relative
to 2000. But most of the centre of Bullseye Vent and the area around it were seen to be characterized by intensified blanking
in 2005. Tracing these areas of intensified blanking through the three-dimensional (3D) seismic volume defined several apparent
new flow pathways that were not seen in the 2000 data, which are interpreted as newly generated fractures/faults for upward
fluid migration. Intensified blanking is interpreted as a result of new formation of gas hydrate in the subsurface along new
fracture pathways. Areas with reduced blanking may be zones where formerly plugged fractures that had trapped some free gas

The large cylinder is a new-type structure that has been applied to harbor and offshore engineering. An analytic method of the relationship between loads and the structure displacement is developed based on the failure mode of deep embedded large cylinder structures. It can be used to calculate directly the soil resistance and the ultirnate bearing capacity of the structure under usage. A new criterion of the large cylinder structure, which discriminates the deep embedded cylinder from the shallow embedded cylinder, is defined. The paper presents a theoretical and numerical approach to the dynamical behaviour of risers in deep water which takes into account two types of nonlinearity; that due to viscous drag forces and that due to the large displacements of the riser when submitted to strong axial loads. As the second nonlinearity may have a significant influence upon the behaviour of risers in deep water, a method for automatically updating the structural geometry during the dynamic analysis is given. The effects of free-surface waves on the floating structures are of great importance in the offshore industry. Among the six degrees of motions of a surface ship the absence of restoring forces in surge, sway and yaw led to critical situations for moored ships in the recent times. The order of forces in horizontal plane and their exciting frequencies are matters of interest. The resonance with the presence of moored chains led to many accidents in the recent past. The lines in dry conditions may not give good damping and in wet condition they may trigger the system to chaotic motions and jumps. Two different loading conditions of a container ship model are tested with waves in laboratory conditions in two different drafts. The mooring lines are chosen as per scale law and the energy under the response spectrum is determined from the plots. The results give new insights into the movement of a berthed ships subjected to waves. Response of the moored ship to different loading conditions in different water depths are discussed in this paper. The paper gives the order of energy due to first-order and slowly varying movement of a berthed container model in a towing tank. 相似文献
