Predicting the location of gully heads in various environments is an important step towards predicting gully erosion rates. So far, field data collection and modelling of topographic thresholds for gully head development has mainly focused on gullies that formed in forested areas, rangelands, pastures and cropland. Such information for gullies in badlands however is very scarce. Therefore, this paper aims to extend the database on gully head topographical thresholds through data collection in a badland area and to improve the prediction of gully heads forming at sites with a very low erosion resistance value. For this, we chose a badland site located in central Italy that is characterized by biancana forms and both active and dormant gullies. The definition of the conditions under which present‐day gully heads developed allowed a better modelling of the gully head threshold equation, with modification of a previous model and the exemplification of how to use the updated model. The model shows that the resistance to gully head retreat depends on slope gradient and drainage area at gully heads, land use at the moment of gully development (as numerically expressed using parameters derived from the Runoff Curve Number method), surface rock fragment cover, presence of joints, pipes, and factors/processes affecting detachment rate. This study attempted to better understand environmental conditions that control the development of gully heads in badlands through a combination of field data collection of gully heads, an analysis of land use changes over 10 centuries, focusing on the period 1820–2005, and land use management through repeat photography and a critical examination of historical documents. © 2018 The Authors. The effects of root systems on soil detachment by overland flow are closely related to vegetation types. The objective of this study was to quantify the effects of two gramineous roots (Paspalum mandiocanum with shallow roots and Pennisetum giganteum with deep roots) on soil detachment capacity, rill erodibility, and critical shear stress on alluvial fans of benggang in south-east China. A 4-m-long and 0.12-m-wide flume was used. Slope steepness ranged from 9% to 27%, and unit flow discharge ranged from 1.39 × 10−3 to 4.19 × 10−3 m2 s−1. The mean detachment capacities of P. mandiocanum and P. giganteum lands were 18% and 38% lower than that of bare land, respectively, and the effects of root on reducing soil detachment were mainly reflected in the 0- to 5-cm soil layer. The most important factors in characterizing soil detachment capacity were root length density and soil cohesion, and soil detachment capacity of the two grass lands could be estimated using flow shear stress, soil cohesion, and root length density (NSE = 0.90). With the increase in soil depth, rill erodibility increased, whereas shear stress decreased. The mean rill erodibilities of P. mandiocanum and P. giganteum lands were 81% and 61% as much as that of bare land, respectively. Additionally, rill erodibilities of the two grass lands could be estimated as an exponential function by root length density and soil cohesion (NSE = 0.88). The mean critical shear stress of P. mandiocanum and P. giganteum lands was 1.29 and 1.39 times that of bare land, respectively, and it could be estimated with a linear function by root length density (NSE = 0.76). This study demonstrated that planting of the two grasses P. mandiocanum and P. giganteum could effectively reduce soil detachment and enhance soil resistance to erosion on alluvial fans, with the deep roots of P. giganteum being more effective than the shallow roots of P. mandiocanum. The results are helpful for understanding the influencing mechanism of root systems on soil detachment process.  相似文献

Water erosion on hillslopes is a worldwide environmental problem, which is a rainfall‐induced process, especially extreme rainfall. The great intensity of extreme rainfall strongly enhances the power of overland flow to detach soil and transport sediment. Plant litter is one of the most important constituents of ecosystems that often covers the soil surface and can be incorporated into topsoil. However, little attention has been paid to its effect on flow hydraulics owing to the veiled nature. This study aimed to examine the effects of incorporated litter on the hydraulic properties under extreme rainfall condition. To reach this goal, six litter rates of 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20, 0.35, and 0.50 kg m?2 and four litter types collected from deciduous trees, coniferous trees, shrubs, and herbs were incorporated into topsoil. Then, simulated rainfall experiments were performed on five slope gradients (5°, 10°, 15°, 20°, and 25°) with an extreme rainfall intensity of 80 mm h?1. The results showed that Froude number and flow velocity of the overland flow decreased, whereas flow resistance increased exponentially with litter incorporation rate. Litter type had an influence on flow hydraulics, which can mainly be attributed to the variations in surface coverage of the exposed litter and the litter morphology. Flow velocity and Darcy–Weisbach coefficient increased markedly with slope gradient. However, the variation of slope gradient did not modify the relationships between flow hydraulics and incorporated litter rate. The random roughness, resulting from heterogeneous erosion due to the uneven protection of surface exposed litter, increased linearly with litter incorporated rate. As rainfall proceeded, flow hydraulics varied with incorporated litter rate and slope gradient complicatedly due to the increases in flow rate and coverage of the exposed litter and the modification of soil surface roughness.  相似文献

大洋岩石圈俯冲增生过程中可能伴随着复杂的深部板片运动过程。高压变质岩无疑是记录这些深部过程的良好载体。最近的研究提出,在特定情况下,双向俯冲中占主导的俯冲板块拖曳另一侧板块发生反向运动,从而短板片可能被另一侧长板片拖出。该研究提示我们关注俯冲增生过程中这种可能的“不正常”的板片运动方式,从而客观而全面地剖析碰撞造山带。现有高压变质岩折返模式中,除了俯冲隧道流模式,其余模式均强调单次快速折返。然而,俯冲反向运动导致的折返过程有所不同:对单个高压变质岩来说仍是快速折返,但是对整体高压变质岩带来说,整个俯冲反向期间必然都存在高压变质岩折返,从而形成较长的折返过程持续时间。对上地壳层次的折返相关构造变形的研究有助于揭示上述过程。  相似文献

庐山出露的变质核杂岩的构造层次具有典型的三层结构,即最上面的未变质沉积盖层、中间韧性流变层、核部的变质基底,其间分别以上剥离断层和拆离断层为分界线。上部沉积盖层以脆性变形为主,中间韧性流变层变形程度不一,但远离拆离带变质变形逐渐减弱,而核部的变质基底以强塑性变形为特征。对变质核杂岩南北两条地质剖面的分析,得到三个构造层次的岩石变质变形及岩性变化特征。区域动力学分析反映变质核杂岩东部原拆离带在五里正断层附近。拆离带中多硅白云母压力计得出的变质压力为0.6~1.1 GPa;锆石U-Pb年龄测试得到变质核杂岩的隆升时代为早白垩世。  相似文献

胶北地体中的深层次拆离构造:扬子板片折返的板上响应   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
通过对胶北地体基底中的韧性变形构造的研究,厘定了位于太古宙胶东群和古元古界粉子山群之间及粉子山群与晚元古界蓬莱群之间的2条深层次韧性拆离断层。显微构造和石英组构研究表明它们的剪切指向自SE向NW,并经历了高温(>650℃)到低温(350℃)的组构演化过程。对剪切带中的长英质糜棱岩进行SHRIMP U-Pb测年,获得153±2Ma和128.5±1.5Ma两组重结晶变形年龄,代表韧性拆离断裂形成及活化的时限。结合地体中岩浆作用、莱阳白垩纪盆地沉积以及制约盆地的韧性拆离断裂(148Ma)等相关伸展构造特征,认为胶北深层次拆离构造是扬子深俯冲板块折返后期的板上伸展的响应。  相似文献

冶山和山里陈岩体构造上属于扬子地块东部,毗邻郯庐断裂带东侧,主要岩石类型为石英闪长玢岩。它们的单矿物(角闪石,黑云母)40Ar/39Ar坪年龄分别为131.22±0.77 Ma和130.07±0.48 Ma。冶山和山里陈岩体具有与埃达克岩类似的地球化学特征,如w(SiO2)>56%,高Al2O3[w(Al2O3)=14.95%~17.67%]、Sr[w(Sr)=495×10-6~2086×10-6]、Sr/Y(44~159)和La/Yb(26~68),低重稀土元素,如w(Yb)=0.82×10-6~1.56×10-6),w(Y)=9.14×10-6~20.32×10-6,无明显-正Eu异常(δEu=0.90~1.11)。另外,样品普遍具有较高的MgO[w(MgO)=2.01%~4.98%]、IMg(45~71)和Cr[w(Cr)=19.2×10-6~199×10-6]、Ni[w(Ni)=13.8×10-6~58.8×10-6]。它们的Sr-Nd-Pb同位素特征为:(87 Sr/86 Sr)i=0.7059~0.7062,εNd(t)=-14.75~-12.15,(206 Pb/204 Pb)t=16.082~16.847,(207 Pb/204 Pb)t=15.303~15.461,(208Pb/204Pb)t=35.889~36.919。冶山和山里陈埃达克质侵入岩可能是由于扬子与华北地块在三叠纪的碰撞及扬子地块东部的地壳拆离作用,导致下地壳增厚并发生拆沉熔融,岩浆在上升过程中与地幔橄榄岩发生了反应。郯庐断裂带两侧早白垩世时期的埃达克(质)岩可能形成于断裂带早白垩世时期由左行平移向伸展活动转变的阶段,其源动力很可能是受到滨太平洋板块构造的影响。  相似文献

The results of the two- and three-dimensional magnetic inversions performed on data located between 20°–24° N on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge indicate the crustal magnetization has decayed exponentially for the last 10 Ma, and that this decay has been fairly symmetric about the ridge axis. After removal of the mean temporal decay, the residual field is characterized by more positive magnetizations at the second-order discontinuities, regardless of initial magnetization direction. A model that involves the preferential emplacement of serpentinized lithologies near the discontinuities is proposed to explain this correlation. The temporal detrending method also indicates that several ridge-parallel depressions located on the flanks of the ridge axis are regions of more positive magnetizations. These bathymetric depressions may mark the locations of detachment faulting that occurred during amagmatic periods of extension. The general symmetry of the crustal magnetization about the ridge axis does not support the occurrence of continuous detachment faulting proposed to correspond to the inner and outer corners of ridge axis discontinuities.  相似文献

粤东南地区广泛发育燕山期NE-SW走向的拆离断层系统。文章对恩平-新丰拆离断层进行了野外地质调查和室内测试分析,重点研究了拆离断层之下韧性剪切带中的糜棱岩和拆离断层上盘与高角度脆性正断层伴生的硅化岩。初步认为,研究区热隆伸展构造于燕山早期开始形成,糜棱岩的变形温度在350℃左右,硅化岩内石英中气液包裹体的均一温度在155℃~326℃,盐度在2.74%~21.61% NaCleqv,平均盐度为11.17% NaCleqv,古热液流体沸腾时的温度在235℃~241℃,激光拉曼光谱分析结果表明,含硅热液的成分为富含Si、CO2的NaCl-H2O溶液。硅化岩流体包裹体的H-O稳定同位素组成表明古水热流体为岩浆水与大气降水混合作用的产物。沿着正断层分布的硅化岩可能是燕山期古水热型地热能的重要标志。燕山期热隆伸展构造系统及其深层与浅层相结合的古水热系统对认识现代地热能的类型、成因及其分布规律有一定的意义。  相似文献
