The investigation of mineral, granulometric and chemical composition of sediments of the River Krka estuary (Yugoslavia) were performed in order to elucidate the origin of the sediments and the pattern of sedimentation. Estuarine surface sediments were found to be fine-grained with a bimodal distribution. Environmental conditions in estuarine sediments favour conservation of the organic matter (anoxic conditions). The carbohydrates in the sediments were investigated to determine whether they are of terrigenous or authigenous origin. Glucose, galactose, mannose, xylose, rhamnose, glucosamine and glucuronic acid were detected in the sediments. Their mutual relationship indicates a preferentially terrigenous source of sedimented organic material in estuarine sediments. 相似文献

In this paper the Basic Water Quality Model (BWQM) for the central part of River Neckar is used to analyse the oxygen budget and to assess the potentials of various measures to prevent or mitigate critical dissolved oxygen (DO) declines. It is shown that the oxygen budget is mainly governed by phytoplankton dynamics. The excessive growth of algae and the sudden break down of the resulting algal blooms may cause episodic DO depressions. Therefore, to stabilise the oxygen budget in a sustainable way, eutrophication has to be controlled within the central part of River Neckar and the upstream regions. The only feasible way to reach this goal appears to be a further drastic reduction of phosphorus emissions. In addition, it is indispensable to hold the very high standards of biochemical oxygen demand and ammonium retention at the wastewater treatment plants. A worse performance of the treatment plants would dramatically aggravate critical DO declines which may be caused by algae dynamics. As long as the oxygen budget is not completely stabilised, weir and turbine aeration can be used to mitigate DO depressions. It could be shown that the potentials of these measures suffice to keep DO at a tolerable level. However, due to the long travel times in River Neckar, it is important to start aeration up to several days before the DO minimum is reached. 相似文献

In this paper we present the results of a sunspot rotation study using Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory photoheliogram data for 324 sunspots. The rotation amplitudes vary in theinebreak 2–64° range (with maximum at 12–14°), and the periods around 0–20 days (with maximum atinebreak 4–6 days). It could be concluded that sunspot rotations are rather inhomogeneous and asymmetric, but several types of sunspots are distinguished by their rotational parameters.During solar activity maximum, sunspot average rotation periods and amplitudes slightly increase. This can be affected by the increase of sunspot magnetic flux tube depth. So we can suppose that sunspot formation during solar activity is connected to a rise of magnetic tubes from deeper layers of the solar photosphere, strengthening the processes within the tube and causing variations in rotation.There is a linear relation between tilt-angle oscillation periods and amplitudes, showing higher amplitudes for large periods. The variations of those periods and especially amplitudes have a periodical shape for all types of sunspots and correlate well with the solar activity maxima with a phase delay of about 1–2 years. 相似文献

The spatial and temporal consistency of seasonal air temperature and precipitation in eight widely used gridded observation-based climate datasets (CANGRD, CRU-TS3.1, CRUTEM4.1, GISTEMP, GPCC, GPCP, HadCRUT3, and UDEL) and eight reanalyses (20CR, CFSR, ERA-40, ERA-Interim, JRA25, MERRA, NARR, and NCEP2) was evaluated over the Canadian Arctic for the 1950–2010 period. The evaluation used the CANGRD dataset, which is based on homogenized temperature and adjusted precipitation from climate stations, as a reference. Dataset agreement and bias were observed to exhibit important spatial, seasonal, and temporal variability over the Canadian Arctic with the largest spread occurring between datasets over mountain and coastal regions and over the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Reanalysis datasets were typically warmer and wetter than surface observation-based datasets, with CFSR and 20CR exhibiting biases in total annual precipitation on the order of 300?mm. Warm bias in 20CR exceeded 12°C in winter over the western Arctic. Analysis of the temporal consistency of datasets over the 1950–2010 period showed evidence of discontinuities in several datasets as well as a noticeable increase in dataset spread in the period after approximately 2000. Declining station networks, increased automation, and the inclusion of new satellite data streams in reanalyses are potential contributing factors to this phenomenon. Evaluation of trends over the 1950–2010 period showed a relatively consistent picture of warming and increased precipitation over the Canadian Arctic from all datasets, with CANGRD giving moistening trends two times larger than the multi-dataset average related to the adjustment of the station precipitation data. The aim of this work was to study Chrystal and Proudman resonances in a simple closed basin and to explore and compare how well the two resonant mechanisms are reproduced with different, nowadays widely used, numerical ocean models. The test case was based on air pressure disturbances of two commonly used shapes (a sinusoidal and a boxcar), having various wave lengths, and propagating at different speeds. Our test domain was a closed rectangular basin, 300 km long with a uniform depth of 50 m, with the theoretical analytical solution available for benchmark. In total, 2250 simulations were performed for each of the three different numerical models: ADCIRC, SCHISM and ROMS. During each of the simulations, we recorded water level anomalies and computed the integral of the energy density spectrum for a number of points distributed along the basin. We have successfully documented the transition from Proudman to Chrystal resonance that occurs for a sinusoidal air pressure disturbance having a wavelength between one and two basin lengths. An inter-model comparison of the results shows that different models represent the two resonant phenomena in a slightly different way. For Chrystal resonance, all the models showed similar behavior; however, ADCIRC model providing slightly higher values of the mean resonant period than the other two models. In the case of Proudman resonance, the most consistent results, closest to the analytical solution, were obtained using ROMS model, which reproduced the mean resonant speed equal to 22.00 m/s— i.e., close to the theoretical value of 22.15 m/s. ADCIRC and SCHISM models showed small deviations from that value, with the mean speed being slightly lower—21.97 m/s (ADCIRC) and 21.93 m/s (SCHISM). The findings may seem small but could play an important role when resonance is a crucial process producing enhancing effects by two orders of magnitude (i.e., meteotsunamis). 相似文献

The seismic evaluation of existing buildings is a more difficult task than the seismic design of new buildings. Non-linear
methods are needed if realistic results are to be obtained. However, the application to real complex structures of various
evaluation procedures, which have usually been tested on highly idealized structural models, is by no means straightforward.
In the paper, a practice-oriented procedure for the seismic evaluation of building structures, based on the N2 method, is
presented, together with the application of this method to an existing multi-storey reinforced concrete building. This building,
which is asymmetric in plan and irregular in elevation, consists of structural walls and frames. It was designed in 1962 for
gravity loads and a minimum horizontal loading (2% of the total weight). The main results presented in terms of the global
and local seismic demands are compared with the results of non-linear dynamic response-history analyses. As expected, the
structure would fail if subjected to the design seismic action according to Eurocode 8. The shear capacity of the structural
walls is the most critical. If the shear capacity of these elements was adequate, the structure would be able to survive the
design ground motion according to Eurocode 8, in spite of the very low level of design horizontal forces. The applied approach
proved to be a feasible tool for the seismic evaluation of complex structures. However, due to the large randomness and uncertainty
which are involved in the determination of both the seismic demand and the seismic capacity, only rough estimates of the seismic
