The results of radiolarian analysis confirm the Campanian-Maastrichtian age of the Malokuril’skaya Formation in the Shikotan Island. The Campanian-Maastrichtian age of the formation is implied simultaneously by radiolarians and inoceramids. The studied Campanian and Campanian-Maastrichtian radiolarian assemblages include abundant specimens representing genus Prunobrachium, characteristic of which was bipolar distribution in cold-water to temperate basins. The new occurrence site of prunobrachids is established at the latitude of 43°N, the Far East of Russia.  相似文献

The concentration of Si, Al, Mg, K, Ca, Na, Sr, and Ba in the subcolloidal fraction of sediments at the Razdol’naya River-Amur Bay cross-section is determined using the atomic emission spectroscopy method. Computed is the mean content of studied elements in the soil and river bottom sediments (to the mixing zone). Revealed are river bottom sediments with the high concentration of macroelements corresponding to the zone of mixing of fresh river water and salt sea water. It is demonstrated that the additional accumulation of macroelements (Ca, Na, and Sr) in these sediments is associated with the formation of hydroxides of Fe and Mn and processes of sorption (Mg, Ca, Na, K, Sr, and Ba) on clay minerals (hydromica and smectites).  相似文献

The Argillite Sequence located at the base of the sedimentary cover on the continental slope of the Sea of Japan was studied by petrographic, palynological, and X-ray diffraction methods. Two spores-pollen complexes were distinguished in it: the Late Oligocene reflecting cooling and the Early Miocene corresponding to initiated warming. The data obtained indicate that the sequence is composed of terrigenous silty-clayey sediments that accumulated in shallow coastal-marine settings. The global sea-level rise at the Early-Middle Miocene transition, combined with the regional tectonic processes, determined the basin deepening, owing to which the argillite sequence was overlain by thick Middle Miocene diatomaceous-clayey sediments. Due to tectonic movement along existing faults in the terminal Late Miocene, the argillite sequence occurring initially at depths of at least 400–500 m was locally exhumed to the basin bottom.  相似文献

Shikotan Island of the Lesser Kuril Ridge forms, together with the Vityaz Ridge, the outer arc of the Kuril island-arc system. Marine Pliocene sediments first registered on the island contain diatoms and palynomorphs, which allow their dating. The thin Pliocene semiconsolidated sediments constitute the upper part of sections in the coastal and central areas of the island. They rest with the erosional surface and stratigraphic hiatus upon the Upper Cretaceous-Lower Paleogene (Campanian-Danian) Malokuril’sk Formation. The Pliocene sediments were deposited in relatively shallow-water environments of open sea near the shore, with a forest-free landscape and freshwater basins. The occurrence of reworked marine Oligocene and Miocene diatoms in these sedimentary rocks indicates their development in the Lesser Kuril Ridge area and contribution of their eroded material to the formation of Pliocene sequences. Wide development of Pliocene Marine sediments on Shikotan Island is evidence for ascending movements in the region during the post-Pliocene period, which is also characteristic of the Greater Kuril Ridge islands. The composition and formation conditions of the Pliocene sediments in the outer arc of the Kuril island-arc system suggest that the southwestern (Lesser Kuril Ridge) and northeastern (Vityaz Ridge) segments of this single anticlinal structure evolved under different tectonic regimes through the Pliocene.  相似文献

A complex (petrographic, micropaleontological, and X-ray diffraction) investigation of the sedimentary cover on the northwestern slope of the Okushiri Ridge in the Sea of Japan revealed that its basal layers are of Oligocene age and composed of terrigenous silty-clayey sediments, which were deposited in coastalmarine environments with calm hydrodynamics and low sedimentation rates. The relative sea-level rise combined with regional tectonic processes at the early-middle Miocene transition resulted in widening and deepening of sea basins and accumulation of a thick diatomaceous-clayey sequence of middle-upper Miocene sediments. Tectonic activation in the Pliocene was responsible for development of the ridge and exhumation of rocks formerly occurring at depth of 500–1000 m.  相似文献

A spore-pollen assemblage was established for the first time in the sediments of the Malokuril??skaya Formation (Khromova Bay, Shikotan Island, Lesser Kuril Range, Kuril island arc system). This find enabled dating of the sediments of the uppermost part of the Malokuril??skaya Formation, which, based on this data, are referred to the Maastrichtian-Danian boundary. The assemblage of radiolarian species was identified for the entire section of the Malokuril??skaya Formation. In sediments of the lower part of the section, members of the Inoceramus group were described. These findings add new information to the paleontological characteristics of the Malokuril??skaya Formation. Moreover, our work allowed detailed correlation of the palynological assemblage studied with coeval palynological assemblages of adjacent areas. The similarity of Cretaceous-Paleogene sections of the Ust-Palanskaya (West Kamchatka), Uchir (Sakhalin Island) and Malokuril??skaya Formations, the Upper Cretaceous basement and the Cenozoic cover of the underwater Vityaz Ridge support the shared history of the development of the entire transition zone from the marginal Sea of Okhotsk to the Pacific at the Maastrichtian-Danian boundary.  相似文献

Detailed mineralogical investigations of high-Fe layer silicates from loose sediments (glauconite sands) of the Sado Ridge revealed that green aggregates found on submarine rises of the Japan Sea floor have a different genesis. It was demonstrated that round dark green grains approximate micas in composition. Primary volcanic rocks presumably experienced extensive secondary alterations and then were disintegrated. Their disintegration products (protoceladonite) filling the pores were redeposited and buried in the sediment for a long time. Angular green grains, mainly represented by smectite, were also formed at lower temperatures during the disintegration of altered volcanosedimentary rocks. These younger grains did not experience prolonged exposure. Pseudomorphs of siliceous microplankton consist of both hydromica and smectites. They are presumably authigenic products formed with the participation of microorganisms or electrostatic processes (spherical shape), or their combination. The formation mechanism of minerals filling the cavities in pyroclastics is not entirely clear.  相似文献

A study of the rocks from the Cenozoic sedimentary cover of the Kuril Basin slopes revealed two sedimentation stages in this area: the Late Oligocene-Early Miocene and Late Miocene-Pleistocene, which are separated by erosion in the Middle Miocene. They are characterized by dominant siliceous and terrigenous sediments, respectively. The former largely accumulated in neritic settings, while the latter were deposited in the bathyal zone under a strong influence of explosive volcanism. The change in the sedimentation regime probably occurred in the Middle-Late Miocene during the formation of the slopes of the present-day Kuril Basin. The rocks constituting crustal blocks with a granite-metamorphic layer served as a source of terrigenous material for the Cenozoic sedimentary cover, which indicates the sialic nature of the underlying basement.  相似文献

Results of the analysis of mineralogy, geochemistry, and isotope parameters (13C, 34S, 18O, and 87Sr/86Sr) of carbonates and barites from sediments of the Deryugin Basin in the Sea of Okhotsk are presented. The diagenetic nature of carbonates and barites, which are formed as a result of the prolonged activity of cold seeps acting along a fracture zone and supplying methane–and barium-saturated fluids, is determined. Any signs for hydrothermal activity were not observed.  相似文献
