Rocks of the Proterozoic gabbro—diorite—tonalite—trondhjemitesuite of southwest Finland were analyzed for major elements,REE, Rb, Sr, Ba, U, Th, and isotopic composition of Sr and O.Petrographic continuity from hornblendite through hornblendegabbro, hornblende—biotite diorite, hornblende—biotitetonalite and trondhjemite is reflected in regular variationof major and trace elements in samples ranging from 42 to 74per cent of SiO2. The suite is calc alkaline—trondhjemiticand is distinguished from ‘normal’ calc-alkalinesuites by the increase in Na2O and decrease in K2O and REE concentrationsfrom intermediate to silicic rocks. Prior to solidification, the magmas may have undergone additionof water from metamorphic country rock producing a variationof whole-rock O18 values of from 6.0 to 11.3 per mil. This processmay have been accompanied by introduction of Rb and Sr and removalof Ba from intermediate to trondhjemitic magmas. A linear whole-rockisochron age of 1.9 x 109 years may only be approximate owingto the possibility of Rb and Sr exchange. REE concentrationsshow regular variation through the suite and were not noticeablyaffected by exchange processes. Samples ranging from 50 to 60per cent SiO2 show chondrite-normalized light REE contents rangingfrom 40 to 160 whereas heavy REE contents are constant at 10,and there are no Eu anomalies. Samples ranging from 60 to 74per cent SiO2 have REE patterns which decrease in both lightand heavy REE with increasing SiO2 to values of 10 and 1 timeschondritic values respectively, and show increasingly positiveEu anomalies. Three possible models for magma genesis are consistent withthe petrographic, major and trace element variations, isotopicdata, and experimental petrologic studies: (1) fractional crystallizationof a gabbroic liquid involving hornblende, plagioclase, andbiotite as the major precipitating phases; (2) partial meltingof amphibolite leaving a hornblende-rich residue; (3) partialmelting of amphibolite or eclogite leaving an eclogitic residue.Model (1) is preferred because of the presence of hornblende-cumulaterocks, and because there is a continuum of compositions fromgabbro to trondhjemite.  相似文献

Abstract Effects of post-entrapment fluid-inclusion modification are examined with reference to retrogression-related quartz veins from the Caledonian, Øse Thrust, northern Norway. The inclusions occur in secondary trails, and contain high-density hypersaline aqueous fluids. On morphological characteristics, they are subdivided into, Type A: elongate, ellipsoidal and/or irregular inclusions, and Type B: more equant, regular, and/or negative crystal form. With reference to previous research on post-entrapment modification of inclusions in quartz it is proposed that Type A inclusions experienced little or no post-entrapment modification, whereas Type B inclusions show features characteristic of post-entrapment permanent inelastic stretching and/or leakage. This produces increased homogenization temperatures ( T h), associated with increased inclusion volume and lowering of density, whilst maintaining constant salinity. The similarity of data for degree of fill and salinity between Type A and Type B inclusions indicates that Type B inclusions have primarily modified by stretch rather than leakage. However, the spread towards slightly larger volume of vapour in Type B inclusions suggests that some leakage has also occurred. Because stretched and/or partially leaked inclusions have increased T h, isochore projections significantly underestimate trapping pressure ( P t) relative to unmodified inclusions. Therefore, recognition of post-entrapment inclusion modification due to overpressure is crucial to avoid misinterpretation of data, but has considerable potential for constraining the detail of P-T trajectories of individual rocks. On this basis, rocks from the Øse Thrust zone, north Norway, are shown to have experienced rapid uplift on a 'clockwise' P-T-t path during the final stages of Caledonian (Scandian) orogenesis.  相似文献

The direction of UK energy policy requires a renewed impetus if the goal of climate change stabilization is to be met. Cost is not the main issue: a transformation to a low-carbon energy system may be no more expensive than meeting future energy demands with fossil fuels. Institutional barriers are preventing the large-scale adoption of the necessary technologies. New institutions to promote low-carbon technologies have not yet led to investment on the necessary scale. Further changes to the operation of the UK electricity markets to create a ‘level playing field’ for small-scale and intermittent generation are necessary. UK policy can contribute to international agreements following on from the Kyoto Accord, which also need to address the institutional barriers to energy technology development and transfer.  相似文献

Two-layer type curves of apparent frequency effect for the Wenner configuration are presented. The formulation is based on the normal definition of frequency effect in terms of resistivities measured at different frequencies plus the definition of apparent resistivity over two horizontal layers as a function of first and second layer resistivities. The use of these type curves in the interpretation of multilayer apparent frequency-effect curves is described and some field examples are given.  相似文献

Porphyroblast inclusion trails provide important information about the tectonometamorphic evolution of a metamorphic rock. However, there remains considerable controversy over whether porphyroblasts rotate during bulk non-coaxial deformation.
With reference to an area of the Scandinavian Caledonides and utilizing existing data from theoretical and experimental modelling, this study demonstrates that both 'straight' and 'S-shaped' inclusion trails are consistent with an interpretation in terms of syndeformational porphyroblast growth in a regime approximating to Newtonian simple shear. At crustal strain rates of 10-14 s-1 and porphyroblast growth times of 0.1–1.0 Ma, it is shown that a maximum of 5-9 angular rotation would occur during growth. At faster strain rates of 10-12 s-1 (e.g. those in a shear zone) porphyroblast angular rotations of 90 are shown to occur in 0.1–0.25 Ma (i.e. times comparable with or faster than porphyroblastesis). In view of this, 'S-shaped' inclusion trails are to be expected in porphyroblasts growing in active shear zones or other situations of high shear strain, whereas 'straight' inclusion trails can be interpreted as static overgrowth of an existing fabric or as syndeformational porphyroblastesis at low strain rates.  相似文献

For more than 20 years, Soviet scientists have published papers and registered patents describing the conversion of seismic to electromagnetic energy in geological environments and the detection of the electric or magnetic signals as a method of geophysical exploration. Because of the potential importance of a reliable geophysical technique for locating quartz veins, we have been conducting extensive laboratory and field tests of the phenomena. For the purposes of designing appropriate field tests we need to know approximate signal magnitudes, but little has been published on them. The present paper describes a simplified model from which order-of-magnitude estimates of expected electric and magnetic signal strengths can be made with sufficient accuracy for such purposes. For mathematical convenience we model the target as a homogeneous sphere in which the seismic input induces uniform, time-varying electric polarization. More realistic configurations can be described by linear superposition of the potentials of appropriate sub-elements. True piezo-electricity is, by definition, linear. Therefore, responses should have the same frequency content as the seismic input. Combining the low-frequency form of our results with the assumption that the entire thickness of a target vein responds in phase to a seismic excitation, we obtain the following estimates of the maximum electric and magnetic fields at a distance r from the target: where p is the resistivity and μ0 the dielectric constant of the ground in which E is measured, V is the effective volume of the target, P is the polarization of the vein, s is the seismic stress at the target, and a is the effective piezo-electric coefficient. Signals observed in experiments at the Erickson Mine, British Columbia, gave electric fields in acceptable agreement with our theoretical predictions. We conclude by considering plausible relationships for the high-frequency signals observed from sulfide minerals, assuming that they represent the release of stored stress triggered by the seismic arrival.  相似文献
