Eccentric-orbit binary models for transient X-ray sources are investigated. In these models, a compact star is in an eccentric orbit around a more massive star. As the compact star accretes mass from the stellar wind of the massive star, the accretion rate becomes time-dependent. The accretion rate is determined by Bondi's accretion radius, which depends on both the relative velocity of the stellar wind to the compact star and the sound velocity through the stellar wind. With reasonable sets of the eccentricity, the semi-major axis, the stellar wind velocity and the sound velocity, we obtain the variations of the light curves compatible with observations for the transient X-ray sources. It is likely that many transient X-ray sources are explainable by eccentric-orbit binary models.  相似文献

The method of Laumbach and Probstein is applied to a point explosion in a spheroid with exponential density distribution. It is shown that the shock wave propagates strongly along the direction of symmetry axis and the envelope of the shock front elongates to the same direction. The rate of elongation of the shock envelope increases with the eccentricity of the spheroid and finally the blowout of the shock wave along the polar axis occurs when the eccentricity exceeds some critical value. It is suggested that such a blowout of the shock may be connected with some galactic outburst having axial symmetry.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper describes the development of a partial factor design method on the bending strength of piles for the Japanese Specifications for Highway Bridges. First, uncertainties in mobilised bending moments and yield bending moments were evaluated by Monte Carlo simulations. Second, the reliability of piles designed by the previous specifications were evaluated on the basis of reliability analysis considering uncertainties in the mobilised bending moments, yield bending moments, and other factors. Finally, a partial factor design method utilising a survey subsurface investigation method and ground type was developed to reach target reliability levels determined by the Standards.  相似文献

Dynamical evolution of a relativistic explosion resulting from a large amount of energy release in a homogenous medium is studied using the Khalatnikov equation describing relativistic, hydrodynamic, planar flow. The early phase of the explosion is idealized to two stages: a free expansion and a shock wave stage. By the hodograph transformation inverting the dependent and independent variables, the hydrodynamic equations for the relativistic flow are reduced to second-order linear equations in a velocity-enthalpy space and they are solved by the method of Laplace transformation. The propagation laws and flow structures of the relativistic expansion are obtained at each stage. In the free expansion stage, the flow with a sufficiently high sound velocity forms a thin shell of the energy density in the comoving frame at the front and accelerates the front. In the shock wave stage, the Lorentz factor of the shock front decreases logarithmically with time. The transition time from a free expansion to a shock wave stage suggests that the super-light expansion observed in extragalactic radio sources has no spherical geometry but must be confined to a narrow cone.  相似文献

A point explosion with thermal radiation in an axially symmetric inhomogeneous medium is investigated by generalizing the method of Laumbach and Probstein to include the effects of radiative cooling. As an example, a point explosion in the plane stratified transparent medium with exponential density distribution is calculated. It is shown that the focusing effect along the symmetry axis is enhanced by radiative cooling effect. Explosion models of extragalactic double radio sources are briefly discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper shows the development of a partial factor design method on the bearing capacity of pile foundations for Japanese Specifications for Highway Bridges. Firstly, estimation design equations on the bearing capacities of pile foundations are improved by analysis of pile load test results and uncertainties in the bearing capacities are evaluated. Secondly, the reliabilities of pile foundations designed by the former specifications are evaluated based on reliability analysis considering the uncertainties in the bearing capacities and coefficients of subgrade reaction. Finally, a partial factor design method is developed based on the target reliability index obtained based on the conventional pile installation method by the pile installation methods. Raman spectroscopy of calcium ferrite type MgAl2O4 and CaAl2O4 and heat capacity measurement of CaAl2O4 calcium ferrite were performed. The heat-capacity of CaAl2O4 calcium ferrite measured by a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) was represented as CP(T)=190.6–1.116 × 107T–2 + 1.491 × 109T–3 above 250 K (T in K). The obtained Raman spectra were applied to lattice dynamics calculation of heat capacity using the Kieffer model. The calculated heat capacity for CaAl2O4 calcium ferrite showed good agreement with that by the DSC measurement. A Kieffer model calculation for MgAl2O4 calcium ferrite similar to that for CaAl2O4 calcium ferrite was made to estimate the heat capacity of the former. The heat capacity of MgAl2O4 calcium ferrite was represented as CP(T)=223.4–1352T –0.5 – 4.181 × 106T –2 + 4.300 × 108T –3 above 250 K. The calculation also gave approximated vibrational entropies at 298 K of calcium ferrite type MgAl2O4 and CaAl2O4 as 97.6 and 114.9 J mol–1 K–1, respectively.  相似文献

The interaction of the isotropic stellar wind with the rotating isothermal cloud surrounding the young star is investigated. The density distribution of the cloud is taken as that for the equilibrium state of the rotating isothermal cloud modified by adding the rarefied interstellar gas in the polar region. The development of the shock envelope and the structure of the shell induced by the stellar wind are obtained. It is shown that the envelope of the shock front elongates and opens to the polar direction with half opening angle of about 20 degrees resulting the bipolar flow which is able to reproduce well the observed properties for the outflow in the bipolar sources.  相似文献
