A national groundwater-monitoring network consisting of 320 stations has been operated by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation and the Korea Water Resources Corporation since 1995. The network was established as a result of the Groundwater Act of Korea, and a supplementary local groundwater monitoring network containing 10,000 stations will be established throughout the country by the year 2011. A method of allocating stations and organizing the local monitoring network has been developed, based on the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), using pairwise comparison. Several evaluation criteria were selected for determining the required number of the monitoring stations at specific local districts. Weights of the selected criteria were assigned by the pairwise comparison, reflecting hydrogeological conditions and supported by pertinent questions to 93 groundwater experts. To evaluate appropriateness of this method, an example city, Jeonju, was selected where groundwater levels were monitored; seven stations were determined as to be required for the supplementary groundwater-monitoring network. The study demonstrated the usefulness of the AHP. The concepts of the development and the structure of the AHP model can be applied to site or well selections within a particular district.  相似文献

Hydrogeological monitoring was conducted around a pilot cavern for underground cryogenic LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) storage. The monitoring was mainly focused on the operation of a drainage and recharge system. After the operation of the drainage system commenced, the drainage rate decreased rapidly in the initial stages and then decreased gradually. Hydrogeological monitoring revealed that the rock drainage system operated effectively. During drainage, the water table was maintained below the cavern roof. The recharge for ice-ring formation was performed in two phases. The first phase involved the cessation of pumping in downward-drainage holes and the second involved the closure of upward boreholes. Since the water table was maintained below the cavern roof, artificial recharge was planned at first. However, it was not implemented due to heavy rainfall in the recharge stage. On the basis of hydrogeological monitoring and hydraulic tests, it was found that the fractures above the roof and on the right wall of the pilot cavern mainly affected seepage into the cavern and thermal variation due to the storage of liquid nitrogen. Thermal variation was examined by the thermometers installed around the pilot cavern. The cooling and thawing processes reveal the characteristics of thermal distribution in the rock and the 0 °C isotherm. The cooling phase lasted for six months, and the 0 °C isotherm progressed in time after the injection of liquid nitrogen into the cavern. The isotherm propagated up to about 4 m from the floor and the sidewall of the cavern and about 3 m from the cavern roof. The cooling rate of the rock mass above the cavern roof was lower than that of the other cavern sides due to the gaseous space in the upper part of the containment. The fractures were analyzed and considered for thermal modeling. A two-dimensional finite element analysis was performed to compare the field monitoring at the pilot cavern. The numerical modeling shows the distance between the ice ring and heat transfer pattern of the fractures around the pilot cavern. The propagation of the measured and calculated 0 °C isotherm reveals that the water-conveying joint on the right wall might affect thermal propagation through a thermal pipe.  相似文献

Summary. In the maximum entropy spectrum analysis (MESA) of geomagnetic data, the required order can be estimated by the zero-frequency half-power width (ZHW) minimum method proposed in this paper. The spectra of the data for 1876–1975 at Zo-se showed a period of 40yr, in addition to the well-known periods. Impacts of land use changes and groundwater management actions on groundwater quality were evaluated at the island scale with spatiotemporal trends of NO3-N and Cl concentrations in groundwater of Jeju Island, Korea. The temporal trends from 1993 to 2012 in the concentrations of NO3-N and Cl from more than 3900 wells were estimated using the Mann–Kendall trend test and Sen’s slope analysis and compared with the land use change trend for the period 1995–2009. The results indicate that the upward trends in NO3-N were associated with the expansion of agricultural lands, whereas Cl trends were considered to be affected by other factors in addition to the land use changes. In the mid-mountainous region, the deterioration in the groundwater quality by the both NO3-N and Cl was expected due to the continuous expansion of agricultural lands. In the lowland area, the NO3-N and Cl components showed different trends depending on the regions. In the eastern area, increasing trends in NO3-N were observed due to the development of new agricultural areas, while the Cl concentration was observed to decrease as a result of the regulation on groundwater extraction to reduce seawater intrusion. Our study highlights that a comprehensive interpretation of trends in NO3-N and Cl and land use changes for long-term periods can provide useful insights to prepare for suitable groundwater management plans in the whole island perspective.  相似文献

A new methodology is proposed to optimize monitoring networks for identification of the extent of contaminant plumes. The optimal locations for monitoring wells are determined as the points where maximal decreases are expected in the quantified uncertainty about contaminant existence after well installation. In this study, hydraulic conductivity is considered to be the factor that causes uncertainty. The successive random addition (SRA) method is used to generate random fields of hydraulic conductivity. The expected value of information criterion for the existence of a contaminant plume is evaluated based on how much the uncertainty of plume distribution reduces with increases in the size of the monitoring network. The minimum array of monitoring wells that yields the maximum information is selected as the optimal monitoring network. In order to quantify the uncertainty of the plume distribution, the probability map of contaminant existence is made for all generated contaminant plume realizations on the domain field. The uncertainty is defined as the sum of the areas where the probability of contaminant existence or nonexistence is uncertain. Results of numerical experiments for determination of optimal monitoring networks in heterogeneous conductivity fields are presented.  相似文献

Groundwater data (water level, electrical conductivity (EC) and temperature) have been collected since 1995 from the national groundwater-monitoring stations in South Korea. Recently, substantial groundwater-level decline and deterioration of groundwater quality were reported at several stations. Relevant authorities undertook to investigate the groundwater hazards and to devise mitigation measures for selected monitoring stations. However, there were no criteria to determine the status of the groundwater level and EC, compared with historic data. A methodology is presented, which defines the groundwater condition. Using the suggested criteria, water level and EC data are classified into normal, watch and warning levels, leading to different administrative measures and technical investigations. The primary criterion compares the observed values for the evaluation year (e.g. 2003) and the historic values of normal years preceding the evaluation year (e.g. 1996–2002), using box plots. The secondary criterion uses variation trends of the values with the aid of parametric and non-parametric trend tests. Final decisions are dependent on scores assigned to each test. According to the criteria suggested, detailed investigations and mitigation measures for water level decline are required for seven stations and those for water quality are needed for 18 stations because they reside within the warning classification.  相似文献
