Suprasolidus phase relations at pressures from 8 to 30 kb andtemperatures from 950 to 1380C have been determined experimentallyfor a glassy armalcolite–phlogopite lamproite from thechilled margin of a medium–grained lamproite from SmokyButte, Montana: The armalcolite-phlogopite lamproite has microphenocrystsof olivine in a groundmass of phlogopite, sanidine, armalcolite,clinopyroxene, chromite, priderite, apatite, and abundant glass.The lamproite is SiO2-rich and has high F/H2O relative to lamproitesthat have been investigated in previous experimental studies.Our data show that with decreasing temperature from the liquidusat pressures above 12 kb, melt coexists successively with:olivine; orthopyroxene + clinopyroxene; orthopyroxene + clinopyroxene+ phlogopite; clinopyroxene +phlogopite; and clinopyroxene +orthopyroxene + K-richterite. Below 12 kb, the assemblage successionis: olivine; olivine + clinopyroxene; olivine + clinopyroxene+ phlogopite; and olivine +clinopyroxene + phlogopite + armalcolite.The main difference from the natural paragenesis is that therock does not contain any orthopyroxene—a feature thatis rather remarkable inasmuch as it has 16% normative hypersthene—andthe rock differs also in that it contains sanidine and priderite.In the experiments, sanidine is observed only as ghostlike domainsin some of the glass and appears to have formed during quenching. The solid phases crystallized experimentally are generally compositionallysimilar to the minerals in the rock. These similarities andthe experimental phase relations support the concept of a rapidinitial magma ascent with only a small temperature drop andcrystallization of olivine, but not of orthopyroxene. At lowerpressures, less than 12 kb, it appears that the magma ascendedmore slowly with a larger temperature drop suggested by thesimilarity of the experimentally determined sequence of assemblagesto the paragenesis of the rock. No quasi-invariant multiphase-saturation point was found suchas might be indicative of pressure and temperature conditionsfor formation of the lamproite magma by eutectic-type partialmelting of a mantle source. The occurrence of olivine, orthopyroxene,and clinopyroxene near the liquidus, and the high proportionof normative hypersthene in the melt suggest that lherzoliteor harzburgite was probable in the magma source rock. The highSiO2 and MgO contents of the Smoky Butte lamproites may indicatethat orthopyroxene was a source mineral even though it did notcrystallize under near-surface conditions. The curve definingthe appearance of phlogopite appears at progressively lowertemperatures from the liquidus as pressure increases, so itwould appear that either phlogopite was not the mantle K-reservoir,or it was entirely consumed during the partial melting process.The composition of the near-liquidus glass in the experimentsis likely to be the composition of the bulk rock less the verysmall amounts of olivine + clinopyroxene + orthopyroxene crystallizedwithin a few degrees below the liquidus. From the inferred compositionof this glass, anhydrous phlogopite is a potential mineral.The principal variable that determines whether phlogopite crystallizesas a near-liquidus mineral is F/H2O; low values of this ratiopromote the presence of phlogopite as a near-liquidus mineralwhereas high values deter its crystallization. The common practiceof adding H2O but not F in experiments to compensate for degassingmay obscure the role of phlogopite in the evolution of lamproitemagmas.  相似文献

The melting behaviour of a highly potassic biotite mafuriteof the Central African olivine leucitite kindred has been studiedexperimentally as a function of pressure (to 30kb) temperature,and water content (0%, 5%, 15%, 25%, and 40% H2O). Olivine isthe liquidus phase up to 30 kb for all water contents studiedexcept for anhydrous (clinopyroxene on the liquidus) and 15%H2O (phlogopite on the liquidus) conditions. Analyses of phasescrystallizing from the biotite mafurite show that pressure hasvery little effect on the composition of clinopyroxene whichis extremely calcium-rich, and low in Al2O3 and TiO2 for allconditions investigated. Phlogopite has low TiO2 content andtitanphlogopite cannot be a refractory phase in the upper mantlecausing Ti-depletion in partial melts in equilibrium with titanphlogopite.There are apparently no conditions where the extremely potassicbiotite mafurite could be a partial melt from pyrolite but derivationfrom an olivine+clinopyroxene+phlogopite+ilmenite assemblageoccurring as ‘enriched’ patches in the upper mantle,is possible. Liquids in equilibrium with phlogopite as a residualphase at 30 kb would be olivine nephelinites with approximately5% K2O, Na2O/K2O 1 and TiO2 > 5+. Crystal elutriation withtransported residual phlogopite reacting (phlogopite+liquid1 olivine+liquid 2) at lower pressures provides a mechanismfor K-enrichment and generating Na2O/K2O < 1.  相似文献

3-D terrain representation plays an important role in a number of terrain database applications. Hierarchical Triangulated Irregular Networks (TINs) provide a variable-resolution terrain representation that is based on a nested triangulation of the terrain. This paper compares and analyzes existing hierarchical triangulation techniques. The comparative analysis takes into account how aesthetically appealing and accurate the resulting terrain representation is. Parameters, such as adjacency, slivers, and streaks, are used to provide a measure on how aesthetically appealing the terrain representation is. Slivers occur when the triangulation produces thin and slivery triangles. Streaks appear when there are too many triangulations done at a given vertex. Simple mathematical expressions are derived for these parameters, thereby providing a fairer and a more easily duplicated comparison. In addition to meeting the adjacency requirement, an aesthetically pleasant hierarchical TINs generation algorithm is expected to reduce both slivers and streaks while maintaining accuracy. A comparative analysis of a number of existing approaches shows that a variant of a method originally proposed by Scarlatos exhibits better overall performance.  相似文献

G., Toms, P., Newberry, J., Chambers, F M. & Karofeld, E. 2007 (January): Peat multi‐proxy data from Männikjärve bog as indicators of late Holocene climate changes in Estonia. Boreas, Vol. 36, pp. 20–37. Oslo. ISSN 0300–9483. As part of a wider project on European climate change over the past 4500 years, a 4.5‐m peat core was taken from a lawn microform on Männikjärve bog, Estonia. Several methods were used to yield proxy‐climate data: (i) a quadrat and leaf‐count method for plant macrofossil data, (ii) testate amoebae analysis, and (iii) colorimetric determination of peat humification. These data are provided with an exceptionally high resolution and precise chronology. Changes in bog surface wetness were inferred using Detrended Correspondence Analysis (DCA) and zonation of macrofossil data, particularly concerning the occurrence of Sphagnum balticum, and a transfer function for water‐table depth for testate amoebae data. Based on the results, periods of high bog surface wetness appear to have occurred at c. 3100,3010–2990,2300, 1750–1610, 1510, 1410, 1110, 540 and 310 cal. yr BP, during four longer periods between c. 3170 and 2850 cal. yr BP, 2450 and 2000 cal. yr BP, 1770 and 1530 cal. yr BP and in the period from 880 cal. yr BP until the present. In the period between 1770 and 1530 cal. yr BP, the extension or initiation of a hollow microtope occurred, which corresponds with other research results from Mannikjarve bog. This and other changes towards increasing bog surface wetness may be the responses to colder temperatures and the predominance of a more continental climate in the region, which favoured the development of bog micro‐depressions and a complex bog microtopography. Located in the border zone of oceanic and continental climatic sectors, in an area almost without land uplift, this study site may provide valuable information about changes in palaeohydrological and palaeoclimatological conditions in the northern parts of the eastern Baltic Sea region.  相似文献

Petrogenesis of Tertiary Mafic Alkaline Magmas in the Hocheifel, Germany   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Primitive nephelinites and basanites from the Tertiary Hocheifelarea of Germany (part of the Central European Volcanic Province;CEVP) have high Mg-number (>0·64), high Cr and Nicontents and strong light rare earth element enrichment butsystematic depletion in Rb, K and Ba relative to trace elementsof similar compatibility in anhydrous mantle. Alkali basaltsand more differentiated magmatic rocks have lower Mg-numberand lower abundances of Ni and Cr, and have undergone fractionationof mainly olivine, clinopyroxene, Fe–Ti oxide, amphiboleand plagioclase. Some nephelinites and basanites approach theSr–Nd–Pb isotope compositions inferred for the EAR(European Asthenospheric Reservoir) component. The Nd–Sr–Pbisotope composition of the differentiated rocks indicates thatassimilation of lower crustal material has modified the compositionof the primary mantle-derived magmas. Rare earth element meltingmodels can explain the petrogenesis of the most primitive maficmagmatic rocks in terms of mixing of melt fractions from anamphibole-bearing garnet peridotite source with melt fractionsfrom an amphibole-bearing spinel peridotite source, both sourcescontaining residual amphibole. It is inferred that amphibolewas precipitated in the asthenospheric mantle beneath the Hocheifel,close to the garnet peridotite–spinel peridotite boundary,by metasomatic fluids or melts from a rising mantle diapir orplume. Melt generation with amphibole present suggests relativelylow mantle potential temperatures (<1200°C); thus themantle plume is not thermally anomalous. A comparison of recentlypublished Ar/Ar ages for Hocheifel basanites with the geochemicaland isotopic composition of samples from this study collectedat the same sample sites indicates that eruption of earlierlavas with an EM signature was followed by the eruption of laterlavas derived from a source with EAR or HIMU characteristics,suggesting a contribution from the advancing plume. Thus, theHocheifel area represents an analogue for magmatism during continentalrift initiation, during which interaction of a mantle plumewith the overlying lithosphere may have led to the generationof partial melts from both the lower lithosphere and the asthenosphere.
