Seismic site effect has been a major issue in the field of earthquake engineering due to the large local amplification of the seismic motion. This paper presents the importance of an appropriate soil behavior model to simulate earthquake site response and gives an overview of the field of site response analysis. Some of the well-known site response analysis methods are discussed. The objective of this paper is to investigate the influences of nonlinearity on the site response analysis by means of a more precise numerical model. In this respect, site responses of four different types of one-layered soil deposit, based on various shear wave velocities with the assumption of linear and rigid base bedrock, were analyzed by using the equivalent linear and fully nonlinear approaches. Nonlinear analyses?? results were compared with those of the linear method, and both of the similarities and differences are discussed. It is concluded that in the case of nonlinearity of soil under strong ground motions, 1-D equivalent linear modeling overestimates the amplification patterns in terms of absolute amplification level, and cannot correctly account for resonant frequencies and hysteric soil behavior. Therefore, more practical and appropriate numerical techniques for ground response analysis should be surveyed.  相似文献

The intermittent production of the renewable energy imposes the necessity to temporarily store it. Large amounts of exceeding electricity can be stored in geological strata in the form of hydrogen. The conversion of hydrogen to electricity and vice versa can be performed in electrolyzers and fuel elements by chemical methods. The nowadays technical solution accepted by the European industry consists of injecting small concentrations of hydrogen in the existing storages of natural gas. The progressive development of this technology will finally lead to the creation of underground storages of pure hydrogen. Due to the low viscosity and low density of hydrogen, it is expected that the problem of an unstable displacement, including viscous fingering and gravity overriding, will be more pronounced. Additionally, the injection of hydrogen in geological strata could encounter chemical reactivity induced by various species of microorganisms that consume hydrogen for their metabolism. One of the products of such reactions is methane, produced from Sabatier reaction between H2 and CO2. Other hydrogenotrophic reactions could be caused by acetogenic archaea, sulfate-reducing bacteria and iron-reducing bacteria. In the present paper, a mathematical model is presented which is capable to reflect the coupled hydrodynamic and bio-chemical processes in UHS. The model has been numerically implemented by using the open source code DuMuX developed by the University of Stuttgart. The obtained bio-chemical version of DuMuX was used to model the evolution of a hypothetical underground storage of hydrogen. We have revealed that the behavior of an underground hydrogen storage is different than that of a natural gas storage. Both, the hydrodynamic and the bio-chemical effects, contribute to the different characteristics.  相似文献

We shall consider diffusion or single-phase flow in a multiscale porous medium which represents an infinite set of self-similar double-porosity media. At each scale, the medium consists of a highly permeable network of connected channels and low-permeable blocks. The characteristic scale of heterogeneity is ε at the highest level of hierarchy, wherein ε is a small parameter. The ratio between the channel and block permeability at each scale is ε 2. The process analyzed is described using a diffusion equation with an oscillating multiscale diffusion parameter. The macroscale behavior is of interest. The transition to the macroscale is performed by means of the two-scale homogenization procedure. One step of averaging at each level of hierarchy leads to the appearance of the memory terms in the averaged equation. The successive averaging steps lead to progressive memory accumulation, so at each step of averaging, the macroscale model changes its type, and even the result of the second step is unknown a priori. The objective was to determine the macroscopic limit model for the infinite number of scales. By the method of induction, we obtained the macroscale model for an arbitrary number of scales and its limit for the infinite hierarchy. The limit model represents the system of two equations with memory terms. The kernel of the memory operator is the solution of a nonlinear integro-differential equation. Its solution is obtained through Laplace transform.  相似文献

The forest floor plays an important role in runoff rate, soil erosion and soil infiltration capacity by protecting mineral soils from the direct impact of falling raindrops. Forest floor consists of different kinds of litter with different hydraulic properties. In this study, the inverse method was used to estimate the hydraulic properties of three kinds of forest floor (broad‐leaved, needle‐leaved and mixed‐stand) at three replications in a completely random design. Forest floor samples were collected from the Gilan Province, Iran. The samples were piled up to make long columns 40.88 cm high with an inner diameter of 18.1 cm. Artificial rainfall experiments were conducted on top of the columns, and free drainage from the bottom of the columns was measured in the laboratory. Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks), saturated water content and water retention curve parameters (van Genuchten equation) were estimated by the inverse method. The results showed that the Ks of needle‐leaved samples differed significantly (p < 0.05) from those of broad‐leaved and mixed‐stand samples, whereas the latter two did not differ in this regard. No significant differences emerged in the water retention function parameters of van Genuchten (θr, β and α) in the three forest floor samples. The saturated water content of mixed‐stand samples was significantly different (p < 0.05) from that of broad‐leaved and needle‐leaved treatments with the latter two samples showing no significant difference. The good agreement between simulated and observed free drainage for all forest floor samples in the validation period indicates that the estimated hydraulic properties efficiently characterize the unsaturated water flow in the forest floor. Environmental noise pollution is a disrupting factor in the urban areas which can lead to adverse health effects, behavior and quality of life. Present study was carried out in Tabriz (Iran) and aimed to achieve a real condition of noise pollution. Thirty-five measurement stations were selected, and noise levels were recorded. The equivalent noise level in (A) frequency weighting network, route-mean-square sound pressure level, minimum sound pressure level, maximum sound pressure level and noise pollution level were computed as applicable indices. Temporal and spatial variability of these noise indices were plotted by Arc GIS. Public awareness about the noise pollution was assessed through interview. Mixed model and pairwise comparisons were used for comparison of noise indices based on stations and times. It was found that noise levels were significantly different and higher than permissible levels at most stations, especially at heavily travelled crossroads and squares. Mean equivalent noise level for morning, noon, afternoon and night was 71.35 ± 7.49, 71.63 ± 4.90, 70.67 ± 4.52 and 68.74 ± 5.22 dB(A), respectively. The noise indices of all stations and measurement times had significant difference (p value = 0.028 and 0.019, respectively). It was observed that in normal traffic, the highest sound levels are produced by buses, trucks and motorbikes due to low-technology engines. Using the horn was the first reflex of the most drivers. A main part of the noise pollution problem of the studied city can be attributed to driving culture and non-compliance with traffic laws.  相似文献
