The special interest produced by near-field directivity records and their effect on structural response has given a new significance in the velocity time history, its pulse-like content, and relevant parameters and indices. Recent research has shown that directivity pulses inherent in these records govern the linear and the nonlinear response of a wide range of structures. Based on this observation, it is suggested in this paper that a truncated ground motion, limited to the duration of the predominant velocity pulse, can be efficiently used to predict the structural response, instead of the base motion with the total duration, reducing significantly the required runtimes. The proposed methodology is verified for a series of medium to high rise reinforced concrete buildings, for which nonlinear time-history analyses are performed for a vast suite of pulse-like near-field records applied as base excitations with their total duration and the proposed truncated one. Comparison of the results for the response displacements and forces shows very good agreement, permitting the acceptance of the pulse duration as the efficient strong motion time interval of the original record, which determines the response and, thus, it can be used for nonlinear structural analyses.  相似文献

In the Veria-Naousa ophiolitic complex (north Greece), rodingite appears mainly in the form of cross cutting dykes within serpentinised peridotites. It is distinguished into three types, based upon the provenance of its protoliths, textural characteristics, mineralogical assemblages and geochemical affinities. Type I rodigites were derived from boninitic diabasic protoliths and their mineralogical assemblage include garnet + clinopyroxene + chlorite. Type II rodingites were formed at the expense of gabbroic precursors, comprising clinopyroxene + garnet + vesuvianite ± quartz, whereas Type III rodingites replaced diabasic tholeiitic protoliths comprising of garnets + vesuvianite + clinopyroxene + chlorite. Rodingitisation resulted in desilification, decrease of alkalies, Al, Fe, Mg and increase in Ca contents. In Type I rodingites the MREE (middle rare earth elements) and HREE (heavy rare earth elements) were slightly reduced. Type II rodingites experienced LREE (light rare earth elements) depletions, whereas MREE and HREE remained fairly stable. Restricted mobility of REE in Type III rodingites is assigned to shallow-level rodingitisation under decreasing pH.Rodingitisation occured in two distinct stages at fore-arc settings. The first stage occured under mildly oxidising conditions and enhanced CO2/H2O ratios. This stage affected the protoliths of all rodingite types. The second rodingitisation stage occured under more oxidising conditions and lower CO2/H2O ratios, which corresponds to the exhumation stage of the serpentinite-rodingite formations. Types II and III rodingites were subjected to further rodingitisation under the increasing influence of slab-derived hydrous phases at shallower depths, leading to the formation of late-stage andradite and vesuvianite. All stages of rodingitisation are estimated to have occurred under relatively moderate temperatures and pressure (~300 to 450 °C; ~2–6 kbar respectively).  相似文献

In this paper, the dynamic behavior of multi-drum columns and colonnades with epistyles under earthquake excitations is examined through planar numerical simulations. A specialized software application, developed utilizing the discrete element methods (DEM), is used to investigate the influence of certain parameters on the seismic response of such multi-body structural systems. First, this custom-made software is extensively validated by comparing the computed responses of various problems, such as sliding, rocking and free vibration dynamics of rigid bodies, with the corresponding analytical solutions. Then, the developed software is used to study the influence of the frequency content and amplitude of the ground motions on the columns and colonnades, as well as the geometric characteristics of these structures. Parameters such as the number of drums that assemble each column and the number of columns of a colonnade appear to be defining parameters that affect the seismic response of colonnades with epistyles. For ground motions with relatively low predominant frequencies, rocking is the dominant effect in the response, while with the increase of the excitation frequency the response becomes even more complex involving both sliding and rocking phenomena. The numerical simulations show that earthquakes with relatively low predominant frequencies seem to endanger both standalone columns and colonnades with epistyles more than earthquakes with higher predominant frequencies.  相似文献

In situ atomic force microscopy (AFM) has been used to compare the growth of pure calcite and the growth of calcite in the presence of sulfate ions from aqueous solutions at a constant value of supersaturation (S.I. = 0.89) with respect to calcite. The effect of sulfate ions on calcite growth rates is determined and a potential incorporation of sulfate ions is identified in the calcite during growth. Solutions supersaturated with respect to calcite with solution concentration ratio of one and a constant pH of 10.2, were prepared and sulfate was added as Na2SO4 aqueous solution. The solution composition was readjusted in order to keep the supersaturation and pH constant. PHREEQC was used to determine relevant solution concentrations. In situ AFM experiments of calcite growth were performed using a fluid cell and flowing solutions passed over a freshly cleaved calcite surface. Growth rates were determined from the closure of the rhombohedral etch pits induced by initial dissolution with pure water. The spreading rate of 2-dimensional nuclei was also measured. At low concentrations of sulfate (≤ 0.5 mM), no effect on the growth rate of the calcite was observed. At higher concentrations (2 to 3 mM) of sulfate, the growth rate increased, possibly because a higher concentration of calcium and carbonate was necessary to maintain the supersaturation constant. At much higher concentrations of additional sulfate (up to 60 mM) the growth rate of the calcite was substantially decreased, despite the fact that a further increase of calcium and carbonate was required. The morphology of 2-dimensional growth nuclei became increasingly elongated with increasing sulfate content. Measurements of step height showed that newly grown steps were approximately 1 Å higher when grown in high sulfate concentrations, compared to steps grown in sulfate-free solutions. At sulfate concentrations above 5 mM the growth mechanism changes from layer growth to surface roughening. These observations suggest that the new growth has incorporated sulfate into the calcite surface.  相似文献

Radar backscatter values from oil spills are very similar to backscatter values from very calm sea areas and other ocean phenomena. Several studies aiming at oil spill detection have been conducted. Most of these studies rely on the detection of dark areas, which have high Bayesian probability of being oil spills. The drawback of these methods is a complex process, mainly because non-linearly separable datasets are introduced in statistically based decisions. The use of neural networks (NNs) in remote sensing has increased significantly, as NNs can simultaneously handle non-linear data of a multidimensional input space. In this article, we investigate the ability of two commonly used feed-forward NN models: multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function (RBF) networks, to classify dark formations in oil spills and look-alike phenomena. The appropriate training algorithm, type and architecture of the optimum network are subjects of research. Inputs to the networks are the original synthetic aperture radar image and other images derived from it. MLP networks are recognized as more suitable for oil spill detection.  相似文献

Two methods for generating representative realizations from Gaussian and lognormal random field models are studied in this paper, with term representative implying realizations efficiently spanning the range of possible attribute values corresponding to the multivariate (log)normal probability distribution. The first method, already established in the geostatistical literature, is multivariate Latin hypercube sampling, a form of stratified random sampling aiming at marginal stratification of simulated values for each variable involved under the constraint of reproducing a known covariance matrix. The second method, scarcely known in the geostatistical literature, is stratified likelihood sampling, in which representative realizations are generated by exploring in a systematic way the structure of the multivariate distribution function itself. The two sampling methods are employed for generating unconditional realizations of saturated hydraulic conductivity in a hydrogeological context via a synthetic case study involving physically-based simulation of flow and transport in a heterogeneous porous medium; their performance is evaluated for different sample sizes (number of realizations) in terms of the reproduction of ensemble statistics of hydraulic conductivity and solute concentration computed from a very large ensemble set generated via simple random sampling. The results show that both Latin hypercube and stratified likelihood sampling are more efficient than simple random sampling, in that overall they can reproduce to a similar extent statistics of the conductivity and concentration fields, yet with smaller sampling variability than the simple random sampling.  相似文献
