We present a generic, semi-automated algorithm for generating non-uniform coarse grids for modeling subsurface flow. The method is applicable to arbitrary grids and does not impose smoothness constraints on the coarse grid. One therefore avoids conventional smoothing procedures that are commonly used to ensure that the grids obtained with standard coarsening procedures are not too rough. The coarsening algorithm is very simple and essentially involves only two parameters that specify the level of coarsening. Consequently the algorithm allows the user to specify the simulation grid dynamically to fit available computer resources, and, e.g., use the original geomodel as input for flow simulations. This is of great importance since coarse grid-generation is normally the most time-consuming part of an upscaling phase, and therefore the main obstacle that has prevented simulation workflows with user-defined resolution. We apply the coarsening algorithm to a series of two-phase flow problems on both structured (Cartesian) and unstructured grids. The numerical results demonstrate that one consistently obtains significantly more accurate results using the proposed non-uniform coarsening strategy than with corresponding uniform coarse grids with roughly the same number of cells. 相似文献

Photoelectric measurements of photospheric velocity fields have been carried out with the Sacramento Peak Doppler Zeeman Analyzer. Emphasis was given to long periods and low spatial wavenumbers in deep photospheric layers, where the 5-min oscillations are less dominant.Multiple or double peaks cannot be detected in power spectra of the 5-min oscillations, provided that a sufficient number of physically independent points on the solar surface are observed.The most frequent wave-numbers in the spectra of 5-min oscillations (as well as of the low frequency field) agree with those derived from a model assuming statistically independent oscillators of 10 to 20 diameter. These two velocity fields are anti-correlated spatially.Kinetic power in the 20-to-50-min range of periods is closely linked to brightness changes in the same layer, an increase of brightness lagging about 250 sec behind rising motion. Basin modelling studies are carried out in order to understand the basin evolution and palaeotemperature history of sedimentary basins. The results of basin modelling are sensitive to changes in the physical properties of the rocks in the sedimentary sequences. The rate of basin subsidence depends, to a large extent, on the density of the sedimentary column, which is largely dependent on the porosity and therefore on the rate of compaction. This study has tested the sensitivity of varying porosity/depth curves and related thermal conductivities for the Cenozoic succession along a cross‐section in the northern North Sea basin, offshore Norway. End‐member porosity/depth curves, assuming clay with smectite and kaolinite properties, are compared with a standard compaction curve for shale normally applied to the North Sea. Using these alternate relationships, basin geometries of the Cenozoic succession may vary up to 15% from those predicted using the standard compaction curve. Isostatic subsidence along the cross‐section varies 2.3–4.6% between the two end‐member cases. This leads to a 3–8% difference in tectonic subsidence, with maximum values in the basin centre. Owing to this, the estimated stretching factors vary up to 7.8%, which further gives rise to a maximum difference in heat flow of more than 8.5% in the basin centre. The modelled temperatures for an Upper Jurassic source rock show a deviation of more than 20 °C at present dependent on the thermal conductivity properties in the post‐rift succession. This will influence the modelled hydrocarbon generation history of the basin, which is an essential output from basin modelling analysis. Results from the northern North Sea have shown that varying compaction trends in sediments with varying thermal properties are important parameters to constrain when analysing sedimentary basins. 相似文献

Terrestrial samarium consists of seven isotopes. Some spectral lines from Sm have isotope shifts and hyperfine structures that will modify the profile of the absorption lines in the Fraunhofer spectrum. The photospheric spectrum around the Sm ii lines at 4467 and 4519 Å has been studied. Although it is impossible to derive the solar abundance of each individual isotope, it is shown that a terrestrial isotopic composition can account for the anomal line width and asymmetry of the observed solar lines. The solar abundance found from the two lines is A(Sm) = 1.54 in the logarithmic A(H) = 12.00 scale. 相似文献
