The Meteora conglomerate is a thick, coarse-grained unit of Oligo-Miocene age in the Meso-Hellenic basin consisting of Gilbert-type delta deposits (wedge-shaped bodies) and deep channel fills. Gilbert-type deltas prograded from the eastern margin basinward, perpendicular to the NW-SE basin axis. Delta bodies are thicker in the distal portion, where the dip of the foresets is lower than in the proximal area. Organized and disorganized conglomerates coexist, suggesting a mixture of mass- and turbulent-flow processes. The mass flow deposits seem to prevail in the uppermost part of the foresets. Channels (up to 25 m deep) are cut into the Gilbert-type delta deposits, and have axes perpendicular to the progradational trend of the deltas. Giant bars displaying accretion of the downstream side formed inside the channels. The channels were probably cut into Gilbert-delta deposits due to uplift of the source area or to a fall in sea-level. Although large cross-sets of both Gilbert delta and channels have been formed by progradation, they can be distinguished by: (i) angle of foreset bed dips, (ii) facies and textures and (iii) vertical sequences. Differences in these features aid in distinguishing Gilbert-type deltas from in-channel bars.  相似文献

The metamorphic evolution of a granulitized eclogite from Punta de li Tulchi, NE Sardinia, Italy, reconstructed utilizing a combined microstructural (symplectitic, coronitic and kelyphytic features) and thermodynamic approach, involved a complex metamorphic history with equilibrium attained only at a domainal scale. Microstructural analysis and mineral zoning allow recognition of reactants and products involved in successive balanced mineral reactions. The P–T conditions at which each microstructure was formed are constrained by calculating isochemical phase diagrams (pseudosections) for the composition of effectively reacting domains. A pre‐symplectite stage developed during prograde metamorphism under conditions ranging from 660–680 °C, 1.6–1.8 GPa to 660–700 °C at 1.7–2.1 GPa. Pseudosections calculated for subsequent clinopyroxene + plagioclase and orthopyroxene + plagioclase symplectitic coronae using the composition of effectively reacting microdomains suggest temperature in excess of 800 °C and pressures of 1.0–1.3 GPa. Modelling the development of later plagioclase + amphibole coronae around garnet during decompression yields conditions of 730–830 °C and 0.8–1.1 GPa. H2O (wt%) isomodes indicate that the granulitized eclogites were H2O‐undersaturated at peak‐P conditions and during most of the subsequent heating and decompression. This allowed the preservation of prograde garnet zoning in spite of the strong granulite facies overprint. The P–T evolution of Punta de li Tulchi granulitized eclogite is very similar in shape to that registered by other NE Sardinia retrogressed eclogites thus suggesting a common tectonic scenario for their evolution.  相似文献

The paper presents a procedure to obtain response surfaces with non-designed data. The method is basedon PLS modelling of the expanded X-matrix followed by transformation of the PLS loadings intopolynomial coefficients and detection of the co-ordinates of the best response within the experimentaldomain. The results are presented both graphically and numerically. The procedure is validated on anoptimization study of the yield of an organic reaction.  相似文献

Several sections of the thallus of an artic population of brown macroalga Laminaria saccharina (L.) Lamour were collected during April-June 1995, in the Kongsfjorden are at Ny-Aålesund, Svalbard and investigated for halogenating activity. Brominating activity was found in the blade only, while iodinating activity occurred in the whole thallus of L. saccharina . The highest activity occurred in the blade, while lower activity was detected in the stipe and holdfast. No evidence for chlorinating activity was found. Halogenating activity, which clearly depends on temperature, showed increasing rates with increasing tempertures between 5 and 35°C.  相似文献

The El Arenal metagabbros preserve coronitic shells of orthopyroxene ± Fe‐oxide around olivine, as well as three different types of symplectite consisting of amphibole + spinel, clinopyroxene + spinel and, more rarely, orthopyroxene + spinel. The textural features of the metagabbros can be explained by the breakdown of the olivine + plagioclase pair, producing orthopyroxene coronas and clinopyroxene + spinel symplectites, followed by the formation of amphibole + spinel symplectites, reflecting a decrease in temperature and, possibly, an increase in water activity with respect to the previous stage. The metagabbros underwent a complex P–T history consisting of an igneous stage followed by cooling in granulite, amphibolite and greenschist facies conditions. Although the P–T conditions of emplacement of the igneous protolith are still doubtful, the magmatic assemblage suggests that igneous crystallization occurred at a pressure lower than 6 kbar and at 900–1100 °C. Granulitic P–T conditions have been estimated at about 900 °C and 7–8 kbar combining conventional thermobarometry and pseudosection analysis. Pseudosection calculation has also shown that the formation of the amphibole + spinel symplectite could have been favoured by an increase in water activity during the amphibolite stage, as the temperature of formation of this symplectite strongly depends on aH2O (<740 °C for aH2O = 0.5; <790 °C for aH2O = 1). Furthermore, but not pervasive, re‐equilibration under greenschist facies P–T conditions is documented by retrograde epidote and chlorite. The resulting counterclockwise P–T path consists of progressive, nearly isobaric cooling from the igneous stage down to the granulite, amphibolite and greenschist stage.  相似文献

Until recently, little was known about the Quaternary marine sedimentary record in East Greenland. Geophysical and geological investigations in Scoresby Sund were undertaken to characterize the nature and chronology of this record. Seismic records show that almost 70% of the outer fjord system is covered by about 10 m of unlithified sediments, making direct correlation with the Quaternary records on land and the adjacent continental margin difficult. These acoustically unstratified sediments are scoured by icebergs above 550 m water depth. Almost 90% of core material is massive diamicton of Holocene age, deposited mainly from iceberg rafting and turbid meltwater. Sedimentation rates are 0.1 -0.3 m 1000 yr-1. Thicker accumulations of unlithified Quaternary sediments in Scoresby Sund occur as sediment ridges and in two other major depocentres. A low sediment ridge runs across the mouth of Scoresby Sund, and is interpreted as an end moraine of Late Weichselian Flakkerhuk stadial age. The very restricted sediment thickness suggests that grounded ice filled the fjord during the Flakkerhuk and an ice shelf was not present. High inputs of ice rafted debris to the continental margin at about 18 000 BP indicate this as a probable age for the moraine. During the Allerød Interstadial, ice probably retreated from the outer fjord system, since massive diamictons similar to those of Holocene age are present at the base of most cores. A major depocentre of acoustically stratified sediments at the head of Hall Bredning is interpreted to represent ice proximal deposits from a glacier margin extending across the fjord. It is adjacent to dated moraines on land and is inferred to be of Milne Land stadial age (about 10 000 BP). A similar age is interpreted for acoustically laminated sediments and a moraine at the entrance of Vikingebugt, on the south side of Scoresby Sund. Dated kame terraces in the inner fjord system indicate that ice retreated to its present position 6–7000 years ago.  相似文献

Cross-validatory estimation of the bilinear model based on principal components is reviewed andKrzanowski's modification of Wold's procedure is described. Two different types of residuals useful forchecking model adequacy are defined and indices measuring the influence of each observed unit on theestimates of the parameters are discussed. A method for the selection of variables derived from Procrustesanalysis is described. Results arising from the study of two sets of enological data are given.  相似文献

Sodium In Comets
A great deal of attention has been given to the production and spatial distribution of sodium in comets after the discovery of the sodium tail, by Cremonese et al. (1997a), on Hale-Bopp. The sodium has been observed in several comets in the past, but the Hale-Bopp represent the first time where it will be deeply analyzed considering the several data and scientists working on that. The sodium tail stimulated different studies trying to explain the mechanism source and provided the new lifetime for photoionization of the neutral sodium atom. We took into account other sodium observations performed in this century and we focalized our attention to comet Hale-Bopp to understand the main sources responsible for the sodium features observed. We analyzed the sodium tail observations performed by Cremonese et al. (1997b) and Wilson et al. (1998) finding that the Hale-Bopp had four different tails. The wide field images and the high resolution spectroscopy performed along the sodium tail provided very important clues to distinguish the two sodium tails observed and their possible sources. Considering most of the data reported in several papers has been possible to draw a real sketch on what has occurred to the comet during March and April 1997. We are going to demonstrate that the sodium tail observed by Wilson et al. (1998) was not the same reportedby Cremonese et al. (1997a) and in the images taken by the European Hale-Bopp Team there were two distinct sodium tails. The observations allowed us to define “narrow sodium tail” the tail reported by Cremonese et al. (1997a), and “diffuse sodium tail” the tail overimposed to the dust tail. We suggest that the narrow sodium tail was due to a molecular process instead of the diffuse one due to the release of sodium atoms by the dust particles. Such a conclusion is supported by the spatial distribution of sodium on the nucleus and in the coma as reported from other authors. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
