Pyroxenes of pigeonitic and augitic bulk compositions in H3–4 chondritic meteorites commonly exhibit sigmoidal precipitates, rather than the elsewhere common lamellar associations. Most often, submicrometric sigmoids with calcic clinopyroxene composition occur within clinoenstatite; more rarely, clinoenstatite sigmoids occur within calcic clinopyroxene. The sigmoids appear as 001 terminated lamellae, with terminations rotated in opposite directions towards the 100 orientation. Pre-exsolution pigeonite and augite formed at temperatures higher than 980 °C, whereas sigmoidal exsolution occurred between 990 and 830 °C. Local anomalous lattice parameters determined by electron diffraction suggest that lattice parameters are most strained where the exsolution texture is most poorly defined. Shear strain occurs during exsolution due to mismatching lattice parameters and variable angles. In response to shear stress, the lamellae relax and assume sigmoidal strained morphologies. Sigmoidal exsolution is strongly controlled by (100) orthoenstatite stacking faults that possibly trigger exsolution.  相似文献

Due to their common occurrence in various types of chondrites, igneous rims formed on pre-existing chondrules throughout chondrule-forming regions of the solar nebula. Although the peak temperatures are thought to reach similar values to those achieved during chondrule formation events, the heating duration in chondrule rim formation has not been well defined. We determined the two-dimensional chemical and oxygen isotopic distributions in an igneous rim of a chondrule within the Northwest Africa 3118 CV3oxA chondrite with sub-micrometer resolution using secondary ion mass spectrometry and scanning electron microscopy. The igneous rim experienced aqueous alteration on the CV parent body. The aqueous alteration resulted in precipitation of the secondary FeO-rich olivine (Fa40–49) and slightly disturbed the Fe-Mg distribution in the MgO-rich olivine phenocrysts (Fa11–22) at about a 1 μm scale. However, no oxygen isotopic disturbances were observed at a scale greater than 100 nm. The MgO-rich olivine, a primary phase of igneous rim formation, has δ17O = −6 ± 3‰ and δ18O = −1 ± 4‰, and some grains contain extreme 16O-rich areas (δ17O, δ18O = ∼−30‰) nearly 10 μm across. We detected oxygen isotopic migration of approximately 1 μm at the boundaries of the extreme 16O-rich areas. Using oxygen self-diffusivity in olivine, the heating time of the igneous rim formation could have continued from several hours to several days at near liquidus temperatures (∼2000 K) in the solar nebula suggesting that the rim formed by a similar flash heating event that formed the chondrules.  相似文献

The examination of the physical properties of chondrules has generally received less emphasis than other properties of meteorites such as their mineralogy, petrology, and chemical and isotopic compositions. Among the various physical properties of chondrules, chondrule size is especially important for the classification of chondrites into chemical groups, since each chemical group possesses a distinct size-frequency distribution of chondrules. Knowledge of the physical properties of chondrules is also vital for the development of astrophysical models for chondrule formation, and for understanding how to utilize asteroidal resources in space exploration. To examine our current knowledge of chondrule sizes, we have compiled and provide commentary on available chondrule dimension literature data. We include all chondrite chemical groups as well as the acapulcoite primitive achondrites, some of which contain relict chondrules. We also compile and review current literature data for other astrophysically-relevant physical properties (chondrule mass and density). Finally, we briefly examine some additional physical aspects of chondrules such as the frequencies of compound and “cratered” chondrules. A purpose of this compilation is to provide a useful resource for meteoriticists and astrophysicists alike.  相似文献

New bulk compositional data for 34 Allende chondrules are presented. Whole chondrules were analyzed by instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA). The new data set is evaluated together with older INAA data on Allende chondrules and recent INAA data on Mokoia chondrules. The Ni/Co ratios of 200 chondrules are close to the CI- or solar ratio. The chondritic Ni/Co ratios require an unfractionated chondritic metal source and set a limit to the fraction of metal lost from molten chondrules. The bulk chondrule Fe/Ni and Fe/Co ratios are more variable but on average chondritic. Iridium and other refractory metals have extremely variable concentrations in chondrules. High Ir chondrules have chondritic Ir/Sc ratios. They are dominated by CAI (Ca,Al-rich inclusion) components. Low Ir chondrules have approximately chondritic Ir/Ni ratios reflecting mixing with chondritic metal. In low Ir chondrules Ir correlates and in high Ir chondrules Ir does not correlate with Ni or Co. A large fraction of Ir may have entered chondrules in variable amounts as tiny grains of refractory metal alloys. Most Allende chondrules have Ir/Sc ratios below bulk meteorite ratios. Matrix must have a complementary high Ir/Sc ratio, as bulk Allende has approximately chondritic Ir/Sc ratio. Similarly, the high average Ir/Ni ratios of Allende chondrules must be balanced by low Ir/Ni ratios in matrix to obtain the bulk Allende Ir/Ni ratio, which is close to the average solar system ratio.More recent data on single chondrules from Allende by ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) and ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Optical Emission Spectrometry) show the same trends as the INAA data discussed here.  相似文献

The Dergaon fall represents a shock-melted H4-5(S5) ordinary chondrite which includes at least ten textural varieties of chondrules and belongs to the high chondrule-matrix ratio type. Our study reveals that the chondrules are of diverse mineralogy with variable olivine-pyroxene ratios(Type Ⅱ),igneous melt textures developed under variable cooling rates and formed through melt fractionations from two different melt reservoirs.Based on the experimental analogues, mineralogical associations and phase compositions,it is suggested that the Dergaon chondrules reflect two contrasting environments:a hot,dust-enriched and highly oxidized nebular environment through melting, without significant evaporation, and an arrested reducing environment concomitant with major evaporation loss of alkali and highly volatile trace elements.Coexistence of chlorapatite and merrillite suggests formation of the Dergaon matrix in an acidic accretionary environment.Textural integration and chemical homogenization occurred at ~ 1 atmospheric pressure and a mean temperature of 765 C mark the radiogenic thermal event.Equilibrated shock features(olivine mosaicism, diaplectic plagioclase, polycrystalline troilite) due to an impact-induced thermal event reflect a shock pressure 45 GPa and temperature of 600 C.By contrast, the local disequilibrium shock features(silicate melt veins comprising of olivine crystallites, troilite melt veins and metal droplets) correspond to a shock pressure up to 75 GPa and temperature950 ℃.  相似文献

In this paper we investigate two major issues: (1) What are chondrules, and (2) why do they exist? We review the literature pertaining to each question and explore answers. We discuss the diversity of chondrules, especially with regard to their igneous textures and compositions. We review the constraints that have been placed experimentally on the thermal histories of chondrules and list those fundamental properties that all chondrule formation models must explain quantitatively in order to be considered predictive, quantitative models. We provide background on the three major classes of chondrule formation models currently being discussed, and scrutinize each with respect to how well they adhere to the experimental constraints placed on chondrule formation. Finally, we list several unresolved issues that are now or will soon be at the forefront of chondrule research.  相似文献

We have studied the evaporation of Na, K and Mn from Al-Na-K- and Mn-rich silicates at various conditions. Total alkali oxide contents ranged from 5 to 20%. The evaporation rate of Na increases with temperature and decreasing oxygen fugacity and decreases with duration of heating. The loss of K is in all cases less pronounced than for Na. Heating in an evacuated vacuum furnace is more effective in removing Na and K from melt droplets than in furnaces with one atm gas flow of air or gas mixtures controlling the oxygen fugacity. The strong pumping required to keep the vacuum removes Na and K atoms very effectively. In all experiments, the rate of evaporation is determined by quasi-equilibrium between a thin layer of Na and K rich gas above the molten silicates. The results of the experiments are in agreement with several other studies. In experiments with more than one sample in the furnace, equilibration of Na- and K-rich samples with Na- and K-poor samples occurred rapidly, mediated by the ambient gas phase. The results of experiments with Mn in starting compositions showed much stronger losses of Na than Mn under a variety of conditions. Thus the nearly chondritic Mn/Na ratios in the Earth cannot be the result of evaporation of Na and Mn in Earth-making materials, as the Mn/Na ratios in evaporation residues would be much higher than chondritic ratios. Such evaporation processes may have occurred in the parent material of Moon, Vesta and Mars. The data suggest, in agreement with earlier hypotheses, that the high and variable contents of Na and K in chondrules require a gas phase high in Na and K equilibrating with chondrule melts. The volume of nebular gas parental to a certain type of chondrites was heated and Na and K were lost from the chondrule precursors to the gas phase. Subsequently the nebular parcel was compressed leading to higher partial pressures of Na and K. Flash heating then produced chondrule melts which incorporated some of the gaseous Na and K and then cooled rapidly. The large range of Na and K contents in chondrule melts reflects very local enrichments of Na and K in the gas phase. Despite these variations bulk chondritic meteorites have well defined bulk Na and K contents, implying a closed system during formation of chondrules and matrix.  相似文献
