Service contracts have emerged as an important instrument to secure a long-term relationship between carriers in the container shipping industry and shippers requiring scheduled services covering a global market. This contract, entered into largely on an individual and confidential basis, continues to enjoy anti-trust immunity under current United States and European Union regulations. It will continue to be in place even after the EC Council Regulation 4056/86 is repealed in October 2008 although it may operate in a modified way because of the absence of the common external conference tariff. This article examines the implications of this instrument on the international supply chain and explores its future role in defining efficiencies in international trade flows.  相似文献

The analysis of contaminant transport through clay liner is a relevant aspect in the design of industrial, urban and mining waste disposal systems, since these areas must be designed and operated to prevent contaminating substances from reaching underground water systems in unacceptable concentrations. The design requires an estimate of the potential contaminant transport rate. However, before any attempt at quantification can be made, values for transport mechanism control parameters must be established. Clayey materials are frequently used as contaminant barriers. In these materials, which have low hydraulic conductivity, the main contaminant transport mechanism is molecular diffusion. Parameters controlling transport for these conditions are the diffusion coefficient and sorption parameters. These parameters depend on soil constituents and characteristics as well as on the chemical constitution of the contaminant. The great complexity of the factors involved makes it necessary to determine the parameters of each type of soil. This paper discusses an equipment called DKS permeameter (diffusion, convection, sorption), for the study of soil-contaminant transport mechanisms, designed at the Institute for Soil Mechanics of the Ruhr-University Bochum, and some results obtained from its use at COPPE/Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil. This equipment determines the effective diffusion coefficient and sorption parameter with a better reflection of field conditions. The soil under study is a mix of sodium–bentonite that has low hydraulic conductivity (k=10−9 cm/s) with adequate liner characteristics. The result indicated the relevance of determining sorption parameters for structured soils, since the sorption perceived from batch test results using pulverised soil represents maximum soil capacity. Designs based on this parameter would overestimate the attenuation capacity of the liner.  相似文献

 Since the beginning of the 1980s waste disposal has become a particularly sensitive issue. This has led to the development of new legislations in the European Community and internationally which resulted in an array of regulations concerning landfill liner design. This paper comments on different "engineered" containment methods with particular reference to landfill liner design. Perceived changes in the culture of sponge science and sponge conferences served as motivation for an evaluation of the sponge science community and research, over time and at present. Observed changes included a decrease in proceedings publications on sponge fossils and freshwater sponges, sponges from temperate environments, review papers and data syntheses, frequency of aquarium studies, and number of species investigated per publication. Publications on recent sponges, hexactinellids, calcareans, marine, Indo‐Pacific and warm‐water sponges increased, as well as the number of authors per publication and the proportion of field studies. Studies at the level of specimens and ultrastructure were gradually replaced by molecular approaches, but studies at the community level remained stable. The five sub‐disciplines morphology/taxonomy, phylogeny/evolution, physiology, ecology and faunistics also retained about equal proportions over time. Conference publications related to taxonomy, phylogeny and biodiversity prevailed, whereas those on management and conservation were rare, possibly because studies on sponge recovery, survival and mortality were also scarce. The community of sponge scientists has grown and become more diverse over time, presently representing 72 nations. The gender distribution evened out since the first sponge conference and presently favours women at early and men at late career stages. Although stated research interests are generally dominated by physiology and ecology, taxonomy and evolution are favoured after retirement. Sponge science has become more dynamic, but maybe also more competitive and less inclusive. We now face the dual challenge of safeguarding against the loss of some sub‐disciplines, and fostering the collaborative, helpful culture characteristic of sponge science.  相似文献

根据1954—2005年锦州累年逐月平均气温资料,采用一元线性趋势估计和滑动平均方法分析了近半个世纪锦州季和年平均气温变化趋势;采用滑动t检验法分析了气温突变。结果表明:近半个世纪锦州气温变化呈明显上升趋势,20世纪80年代后期气温发生突变,其后气温持续偏高;同时根据锦州城郊农业试验站的资料,初步分析了城市热环境对气温的影响。分析表明,人为的城市热环境是自20世纪80年代以来锦州气温偏高的主要原因之一。  相似文献

Landfill is the most commonly used method for disposal of waste materials since it is one of the least expensive methods. In order to dispose of any hazardous material to a landfill, a liner is used, which protects the underlying land and groundwater since it acts as a barrier to fluid movement. Of the various methods available for providing improved and more effective properties of landfills, methods involving the use of bentonite, cement, lime, gypsum, etc., have been explored in the laboratory. The aim is to overcome the problem and deficiencies of the existing liners. It is observed from the experimental results that the metal concentrations of the input waste solution can be reduced to 80–98% using a soil‐cement admixture, 60–95% using a soil‐gypsum mixture, 45–95% using a soil‐bentonite mixture, 50–90% for soil, 35–80% using a soil‐lime mixture, as liner materials. The permeation rate of different metals through the different soil‐admixture media depends on various factors. A simple mathematical treatment of the phenomenon related to the permeation of liquid through the admixture of the clay and other components has been developed. The experimental results show satisfactory agreement with the predictions.  相似文献
