Large-scale, low frequency modes such as the North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO)and blocking, have an important modulation on the northern hemisphere weather and climate. In this paper, the physical mechanism studies on inter-decadal and decadal variability of NAO and blocking were summarized. The relationship between NAO regime transitions and the interannual variability of NAO in winter during was examined by using a statistical approach. The time-space relationship between NAO and European blocking were discussed. Based on two extreme cold and snowstorm events, the impacts on local weather especially the extreme events within the life cycle (two weeks) of the NAO and blocking were further examined. It was found that the frequently occurrence of the Eurasian extreme snowstorm was closely related to the special combination of NAO and blocking regime. In addition, the development of theoretical modes for NAO and blocking was discussed and issues that remain to be solved were proposed.  相似文献

利用静止卫星 (GMS-5, GOES-9, MTSAT) 红外数据与CloudSat卫星云剖面雷达数据、NCEP FNL分析资料与常规观测资料,对2001—2010年发生的12次渤海海效应暴雪过程中云的演变特征、渤海热力作用与暴雪云团垂直结构及相态组成进行了观测分析。发现不同生成源地的暴雪云通常在渤海上快速发展,云中多存在水平范围可达100~300 km的密实条状或块状云团,其下对应主要降雪区域;暴雪云生成源地可分为渤海湾及莱州湾附近、渤海中部、辽东湾附近3种,暴雪云在海上移动主要受850 hPa风场影响;渤海暖海面与其上冷空气间的热量、水汽交换形成的不稳定层结条件,导致暴雪云进一步发展;暴雪云发展旺盛时期高度可达4 km,其冰水含量最大值达600 mg·m-3且主要集中在2 km高度附近,平均值可达303 mg·m-3,冰粒子有效半径最大值约为120 μm,平均值约为91 μm。  相似文献

应用常规天气图资料、探空资料、加密自动站观测资料、地基GPS/MET遥感大气水汽观测资料、卫星云图、多普勒雷达观测资料和NCEP/NCAR 1。×1。再分析资料,采用诊断分析和对比分析方法,对山东省2009年11月11 12日和2010年2月28日两次暴雪天气的水汽、热力、动力条件和中尺度特征进行对比分析。结果表明,(1)两次暴雪都是受高空槽影响产生的,700hPa附近有较强的偏南气流向暴雪区输送暖湿空气,整层大气高湿近于饱和,中低层有逆温,整层温度≤0 C;暴雪产生在700~500 hPa槽前西南气流前部、850 hPa东北风与东南风辐合的区域,近地面层都为东北风。(2)不同点是,前次暴雪过程中低层先有冷空气影响,然后中高层暖湿气流北上,中低层能量低,以稳定性降雪为主,持续时间长;后次暴雪过程中,先是中低层暖湿气流北上,而后强冷空气从低层锲入,低层形成低涡,地面形成气旋,中低层对流不稳定,对流发展,降雪强度大,持续时间短。(3)暴雪期间GPS/MET水汽监测的可降水量在20 mm左右,对降雪量有一定的指示性。加密自动站观测中温度0C线是雨、雪的分界线,有助于判别降水的形态。  相似文献

Based on the daily fresh-snowrecordings of a set of 81 stations of the AustrianHydrographic Service, covering a 19-year period,various aspects of extraordinarily long-lasting severesnowfalls are investigated. Starting from an exactdefinition of periods of Heavy Snowfall Events (HSE),some of the discussed items include the annual andseasonal frequencies of intense snowfall episodes, thelocation and migration paths of the storm centers andthe volume of snow dropped by the individual storms.Another part of the study, designed to visualize thebig variability of snow-related parameters over Alpineterrain, determines for all involved sites maximalobserved and theoretical extreme fresh-snowaccumulations for periods of variable length. A quantitative diagnosis is carried out for the upward branch of a local meridional circulation over southern China(SC) during the abnormal snowstorms with severe freezing rain from 10 January to 3 February 2008.The diagnostic study shows that the upward branch is mainly associated with the zonal advection of westerly momentum and meridional temperature advection instead of the latent heating(which is commonly the dominant factor in many other storm cases).The corresponding weather analyses indicate that(1) the zonal advection of westerly momentum represents the effect of the upper-level divergence on the anticyclone-shear side in the entrance of a 200 hPa westerly jet with a westward deviation from its climatological location over southwestern Japan;(2) the meridional temperature advection represents the interaction between the mid-lower layer(850 to 400 hPa) warm advection over SC(ahead of temperature and pressure troughs with the latter trough deeper than the former in the Bay of Bengal) and cold advection over north China(steered by an underlying flow at 500 hPa);(3) the relatively weak vapor transport(compared to that of spring,summer and autumn) from the Bay of Bengal and the South China Sea to SC and the existence of a temperature inversion layer in the lower troposphere over SC diminish the effect of latent heating.With the significant increase of vapor transport after 24 January,the role of latent heating is upgraded to become the third positive contributor to the upward branch over SC.  相似文献

The vascular flora of talus slopes in the Mt. Rae area, Canadian Rocky Mountain Front Ranges, is discussed in the context of edaphic and geomorphic conditions. Thirteen talus slopes were sampled systematically for the presence of vegetation, and vascular plants were identified to the species level. Such talus slopes are generally considered relatively sterile and too unstable for the development of distinctive flora. The presence of vegetation is usually taken as an indicator of slope stability. A total of 77 species with boreal and arctic affinities was identified. Most plants display growth forms suitable to the unstable and xeric talus substrate with Schroeter's Schuttstrecker and Schuttdecker forms being most common. Although areal coverage by plants is sparse, a large number of species with morphological characteristics suitable for the talus environment suggests that the presence of plants should not be regarded as an absolute indicator of slope stability. Rather, these plants may represent a long-term equilibrium assemblage characteristic of active talus slopes in a mountain environment.  相似文献

Records of very damaging snowstorms, those causing more than $25 million in property losses, across the United States were assessed to define the spatial and temporal dimensions of the nation’s snowstorm activity during 1949–2000. In this 52-year period 155 snowstorms occurred and caused losses totaling $21.6 billion (2000 dollars). The northeastern U.S. had the nation’s maximum storm occurrences (79 storms), total losses ($7.3 billion), and storm intensity. Two-thirds of all U.S. losses occurred in the Northeast, Southeast, and Central climate regions, and storm occurrences and losses were least in the western U.S. The incidence of storms peaked in the 1976–1985 period and exhibited no up or down trend during 1949–2000. However, national losses had a significant upward time trend, as did storm sizes and intensity. States with the greatest number of storms were New York (62) and Pennsylvania (58) with only 2 storms in Montana, Idaho, and Utah. Storm losses in the northeastern and southeastern U.S. had U-shaped time distributions with flat time trends for 1949–2000, but losses in the western regions and Deep South had distinct upward trends in losses and storm size. More than 90% of all storm losses in the western U.S. occurred after 1980. These findings indicating increased losses over time reflect that a rapidly growing population and vulnerability of more property at risk have been major factors affecting losses, and the lack of a change over time in snowstorm incidences suggests no change in climate during 1949–2000.  相似文献
