The paper develops and analyzes two fully nonlinear boundary conditions that incorporate the motion of the shoreline in nonlinear time domain nearshore models. A moving shoreline essentially means the computational domain is changing with the solution of the flow. The problem is solved in two steps. The first is to establish an equation that determines the motion of the shoreline based on the local momentum balance. The second is to develop and implement into a shoreline model the capability of accommodating a changing computational domain. The two models represent two different ways of addressing this step: one is to track the position of the shoreline in a fixed grid by establishing a special shoreline point which generally is not a fixed grid point. The second is by a coordinate transformation that maps the changing domain onto a fixed domain and solves the basic equations in the mapped domain. The two shoreline conditions are tested against three known solution for nonlinear shoreline motion. Two are the 1-D solutions to the nonlinear shallow water (NSW) equations by Carrier and Greenspan [J. Fluid Mech. 4 (1958) 97], one representing the response to a transient change in the offshore water level, the other the motion due to a periodic standing wave, both on slopes steep enough to allow full reflection. The third is the 2-D horizontal (2DH) computational solution by Zelt [Coast. Eng. 15 (1991) 205] for the run-up of a solitary wave on a cusped beach. In all cases, both models are shown to behave well and give high accuracy results for suitably chosen grid and time spacings.  相似文献

A new technique for two-dimensional (2-D) spectral estimation of a stationary random field (SRF) is investigated in this paper. This is based on the extension of the Radon transform theory to stationary random fields (SRF's), proposed by Jain and Ansari [19]. Using the Radon transform, the 2-D estimation problem is reduced to a set of one-dimensional (1-D) independent problems, which could then be solved using 1-D linear prediction (LP) or by any other high-resolution estimation procedure. This is unlike previous methods which obtain the 2-D power spectral density OPSD) estimate by using 1-D high-resolution techniques in the spirit of a separable estimator [2]. Examples are provided to illustrate the performance of the new technique. Various features of this approach are highlighted.  相似文献

利用船只Kelvin航迹模型、海面波模型和二尺度微波散射模型,提出了船尾迹多视向的成像仿真技术,并首次在二维空间中从不同视向仿真船尾迹的SAR图像。结果表明,当雷达视向与船只航向平行时,横波成像明显;当雷达视向与船只航向垂直时,扩散波成像明显;当雷达视向与船只航向有个夹角时,会出现一臂亮一臂暗的现象,这一现象取决于两臂尖波的传播方向与雷达视向的夹角,传播方向与雷达视向越接近平行的波越容易被雷达观测到,从而形成亮臂。仿真结果还得出另外一个结论:船只航向与雷达视向越接近垂直,两臂张角越小。仿真结果和实际的多幅ERS-SAR图像所观测到的结果是一致的。该模型可以有效地模拟Kelvin尾迹SAR多视向成像。  相似文献

A new six Degree Of Freedom (6DOF) motion measurement technique for small-scale physical models of floating bodies is presented, based on analysis of image sequence from one camera. The proposed system consists of one camera and one target: the method estimates the 3-D rigid motion following the time evolution of the target of known pattern fixed to the moving body and framed by the camera. In particular, the rotation matrix and the translation vector of the 3-D rigid motion between initial still position and a generic moved position are calculated by assuming the existence of a planar homography between the camera CCD plane and the plane passing through the flat target surface. Geometrical relationship allows one the calculation of wanted 6DOFs for every point of the modeled body. In the paper, the method is mathematically presented in terms of equations of rigid motion with its associate accuracies. The image-based technique is illustrated on some tests carried out in an experimental multipurpose wave basin.  相似文献

To support modeling acoustic backscatter from the seafloor, a conductivity probe and a laser line scanner were deployed jointly to measure bottom roughness during an experiment off the New Jersey coast in summer 2006. The conductivity probe in situ measurement of porosity (IMP2) is impervious to water turbidity and yields a 1-D profile with 10-mm horizontal spacing and 1-mm resolution in the vertical direction. The laser line scanner is limited by water visibility but it provides 2-D grid points with resolutions 0.3 mm across track, 0.5 mm along track, and 0.3 mm in the vertical direction. Two sets of data, suitable to model mid- to high-frequency acoustic backscatter, were collected from two sites 900 m apart on August 14 and 17, 2006. The roughness spectra obtained from the laser scanning were compared to those measured by the IMP2. The spectra from the two methods are consistent over wave number range 0.0188–3 rad/cm, which are the wave number range common to both methods. The efficacy of the laser scanner is also confirmed by showing the spectral line created by the IMP2's periodic probing marks. The 2-D spectra generated from the laser scan data show that the bottom roughness at these sites is azimuthally isotropic, but significant spatial heterogeneity is observed.   相似文献

基于一个一维湍能海洋混合层模式,发展了一个易于与大气或海洋模式耦合的,可应用于水平二维空间的模块化海洋混合层模式。并加入垂直上翻参数化方案,引入日平均海面温度及气候态松弛项,进行二维海洋模拟理想气旋实验和飓风实例模拟实验。理想气旋强迫实验表明,垂直上翻过程的参数化方案可有效地弥补原有一维海洋混合层模式无法形成气旋中心动力上翻的不足,消除了虚假暖水核心。卡特里娜飓风个例实验的结果表明,加入垂直上翻后,飓风中心附近的海表面温度误差明显减小。海洋混合层模式对海洋表面温度日变化模拟能力在二维应用中依然表现良好。经过上述改进,发展的海洋混合层模式可以较为真实地模拟平常海表温度高频日变化的同时,还对剧烈天气过程也有一定的模拟能力,具有广泛的应用前景。  相似文献

Policies are arising around the world, most recently in the United States, that mandate the implementation of marine spatial planning as a practical pathway towards ecosystem-based management. In the new United States ocean policy, and several other cases around the globe, ecosystem services are at the core of marine spatial planning, but there is little guidance on how ecosystem services should be measured, making it hard to implement this new approach. A new framework is shown here for practical, rigorous ecosystem service measurement that highlights contributions from both natural and social systems. The novel three-step framework addresses traditional shortcomings of an ecosystem services approach by giving managers and scientists the tools to assess and track: (1) the condition of the ecosystem (supply metrics), (2) the amount of ocean resources actually used or enjoyed by people (service metrics), and (3) people's preference for that level of service (value metrics). This framework will allow real world progress on marine spatial planning to happen quickly, and with a greater chance for success.  相似文献

This paper presents a new bearings-only method of detecting and tracking low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) wideband targets on a constant course and velocity trajectory. A track-before-detect strategy based on matched velocity filtering is adopted using spatial images constructed from a sequence of power bearing map (PBM) estimates accumulated during a track. To lower the threshold SNR for detection, a discrete bank of matched velocity filters integrates the PBM images over a range of hypothesized trajectories, such an approach eliminates the need to estimate the number of targets since signal detection is determined by comparing the output of each matched filter (MF) to a decision threshold. The distribution of the MF output is derived based on a single point target in diffuse noise assumption. Receiver operating characteristic curves show a definite detection gain under low SNR conditions for matched velocity filtering (track-before-detect) over detection from a single PBM  相似文献

Composite materials are a preferred choice when high strength/weight ratio and resistance to corrosion are needed. For assembly, composite parts are joined by using adhesives and/or fasteners. Due to the increased use of composites, there is a need for reliable and affordable structural health monitoring (SHM) methods for the detection of weakened bonds and loosened fasteners. Heterodyne effect may be utilized for the evaluation of debonded area when the linear characteristics of the system changes to nonlinear as a result of light contact in the bonding zone and this nonlinear system responds to appropriate bitonal excitations with new frequencies. Nonlinear elastic wave spectroscopy (NEWS) methods are using the same concept although they are limited to the combination of a high and a low frequency. Heterodyne method allows the engineers to have control over the new output frequencies as indicators of nonlinearity in the target structure. In this study, implementation of the heterodyne method is proposed for identification of the debonded region and evaluation of the compressive forces applied to facing plates. The proposed SHM method proved to be effective in both scenarios.  相似文献

This paper presents a technique for adaptively tracking bathymetric contours using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) equipped with a single altimeter sonar. An adaptive feature mapping behavior is developed to address the problem of how to locate and track features of unknown extent in an environment where a priori information is unavailable. This behavior is implemented as part of the layered control architecture used by the AUV Odyssey II. The new adaptive feature mapping behavior builds on previous work in layered control by incorporating planning and mapping capabilities that allow the vehicle to alter its trajectory online in response to sensor data in order to track contour features. New waypoints are selected by evaluating the expected utility of visiting a given location balanced against the expected cost of traveling to a particular cell. The technique is developed assuming sensor input in the form of a single, narrow-beam altimeter sensor attached to a non-holonomic, dynamically controlled survey-class AUV such as the Odyssey II. Simulations of the Charles River basin which have been constructed from real bathymetry data are used as test missions. The 7-m contour line of a prominent trench in the river serves as the target feature. The adaptive contour following behavior tracks the contour despite navigation error and environmental disturbances, supplying the capability of autonomously detecting and following distinctive bathymetric features using a point sensor. This behavior provides a foundation for future research in tracking of dynamic features in the water-column and for concurrent mapping and localization over natural terrain using a point sensor  相似文献

Wave induced excess flow of momentum(WIEFM)is the averaged flow of momentum over a wave period due to wave presence,which may also be called 3-D radiation stress.In this paper,the 3-D current equations with WIEFM are derived from the averaged Navier-Stokes equations over a wave period,in which the velocity is separated into the large-scale background velocity,the wave particle velocity and the turbulent fluctuation velocity.A concept of wave fluctuating layer(WFL)is put forward,which is the vertical column from the wave trough to wave ridge.The mathematical expressions of WIEFM in WFL and below WFL are given separately.The parameterized expressions of WIEFM are set up according to the linear wave theory.The integration of WIEFM in the vertical direction equals the traditional radiation stress(namely 2-D radiation stress)given by Longuet-Higgins and Stewart.  相似文献

Dim target detection from sea clutter is one of the difficult topics in ocean remote sensing application. By aiming at the shortcoming of false alarms when using track before detect (TBD) based on dynamic programming, a new discrimination method called statistics of direction histogram (SDH) is proposed, which is based on different features of trajectories between the true target and false one. Moreover, a new series of discrimination schemes of SDH and Local Extreme Value method (LEV) are studied and applied to simulate the actually measured radar data. The results show that the given discrimination is effective to reduce false alarms during dim targets detection.  相似文献

Sloshing moment amplitudes in a rectangular tank for a wide range of rolling frequencies are investigated both experimentally and numerically. In a previous paper, Souto et al. [2004. Simulation of anti-roll tanks and sloshing type problems with smoothed particle hydrodynamics. Ocean Eng. 31 (8–9), 1169–1192] numerical results obtained with a 3-D Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) formulation were presented. These only corresponded to the phase lag between the tank motion and the liquid response moment. This paper is aimed at improving those results by obtaining accurate values for the moment amplitudes. We present the corrections with respect to the aforementioned implementation that focus on the time integration scheme and on the treatment of the boundary conditions. Ocean surface water [CO2(aq)] variations based on glacial/interglacial changes in sediment delta 13Corg are shown to compare favorably with reconstructions based on ice core [CO2]. In particular, an approximate 80 microatmospheres increase in atmospheric pCO2 during the last glacial-interglacial transition is calculated to correspond to a 3-4 micromolar increase in ocean surface water [CO2(aq)] at atmospheric equilibrium. A widespread marine delta 13Corg decrease of 1-2% accompanied this event and was not preceded by an equivalent isotopic change in surface water total dissolved inorganic carbon. These observations support the hypothesis that [CO2(aq)] influences photosynthetic isotope fractionation between marine inorganic and organic carbon pools, and therefore that plankton/sediment delta 13Corg may serve as a proxy for surface water [CO2(aq)].  相似文献

Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) is the largest organic carbon reservoir in sea water and plays an imporrant role in the marine carbon cycle and other biogeochemical processes in the ocean. Accurate and precise determinalion of the bOC concentration in sea water is thus a prerequisite for any interpretation of DOC biogeochemistry. A key factor in analytical quality control is an accurate determination of the blank. The assessment and distinction of DOC blanks are essential for the precise measurements of oceanic DOC. The total DOC blank includes instrument and water blanks in the high temperature catalytic oxidation (HTCO) method. DOC can be measured accurately using the HTCO method only when the instrument blank is correctly distinguished from the total DOC blank and corrected in the sample measurements. Low DOC blanks can be achieved by extensive conditioning of new catalysts and the whole instrument system, whereas instrument blanks can be quantified by subtracting the water blank from the total DOC blank. We have been able to produce low carbon nanopure water [≤2μmol/dm3(C)] and have a low instrumental blank [< 5-6 μmol/dm3(C)] when using the HTCO method. Results of concentrations and distributions of DOC in the Gulf of Mexico and the North Atlantic are oceanographically consistent. Results from DOC measurements on samples from the international DOC methods comparison program further confirmed our low values of both nenopure water and the instrument blank.  相似文献

Underwater topography can be imaged using remote sensing methods. Numerous studies have been conducted to understand the imaging mechanism of shallow water topography. However, current–topography interaction constitutes the weakest link in the remote sensing imaging mechanism of underwater topography. In addition, few studies focused on different topography patterns. Current velocity is highly correlated with bathymetry, and velocity gradient is used as an indicator of sea surface roughness. In this research, we analyzed the distribution characteristics of current velocity and velocity gradient in different cases using a 3-dimensional (3-D) hydrodynamic model to discuss the current–topography interaction part of the remote sensing imaging mechanism, especially the modulation by current parallel or normal to the underwater topography, both positive and negative. Results showed remarkable agreement between 3-D current analysis and surface velocity analysis. Parallel and normal currents had different responses to different topography types. The distribution of surface current gradient showed opposite features over negative and positive topography in parallel and normal current fields. This can be used to distinguish negative topography from positive topography with different current directions to a certain extent.  相似文献

There has been substantial development in computer codes for linear hydroelasticity in recent years, driven in part by the motivation to investigate the wave-induced response of very large floating structures (VLFSs). A recent International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress (ISSC) state-of-the-art report on VLFS design and analysis [ISSC, 2006. Report of Specialist Task Committee VI.2, very large floating structures. In: Frieze, P.A., Shenoi, R.A. (eds.), Proceedings of the 16th International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress, Elsevier, Southampton, UK, pp. 397-451] included a brief comparative study of the simulation results from different computer codes for a pontoon (mat-like) VLFS. The codes covered a mix of both fluid models (potential and linear Green-Naghdi) and structural models (3-D grillage, 2-D plate, 3-D shell). A more detailed comparison of the results from a select group of models from that study is provided and discussed herein. The similarities in the results increase the confidence level of the state-of-the-art in predicting the hydroelastic response of such structures, and the differences, including in computational efficiency, lead to an understanding of the significance of specific modeling assumptions and their impact on the predicted response.  相似文献
