Abstract A deep section of accretionary complex, the metamorphosed Susunai Complex, is observed on Sakhalin Is., Russia. High pressure part of pumpellyite-actinolite facies metavolcanics, metacherts and metapelites are well exposed and constitute a tectonic pile preserving primary structures related to underplating of the oceanic crust. Three stages of deformation, D1 through D3, suggest successive deformation during subduction, underplating and exhumation of the complex. Oceanic material in the complex is more abundant than other well documented ancient accretionary complexes (e.g. the Shimanto Belt in southwest Japan and the Ghost Rocks Formation in Alaska), which were shallowly underplated. At Susunai, deep down-stepping of a décollément has scraped off the upper part of the oceanic crust, primarily the pillowed basalt horizon. This down-stepping results from crustal weakening as overpressured water is released from the fractured oceanic crust during metamorphism.  相似文献

Abstract Dolomite marble from the Kumdy–Kol area of the Kokchetav Massif contains abundant microdiamond, mainly in garnet and a few in diopside. The mineral assemblage at peak metamorphic condition consists of dolomite + diopside + garnet (+ aragonite) ± diamond. Inclusions of very low MgCO3 calcite and almost pure calcite occur in diopside and are interpreted as aragonite and/or aragonite + dolomite. Single-phase Mg–calcite in diopside with a very high MgCO3 component (up to 21.7 mol%) was also found in diamond-free dolomitic marble, and is interpreted as a retrograde product from aragonite + dolomite to Mg–calcite. The dolomite stability constrains the maximum pressure (P) at < 7 GPa using previous experimental data, whereas the occurrence of diamond yields the minimum peak pressure–temperature (P–T) condition at 4.2 GPa and 980 °C at X co 2 = 0.1. The highest MgCO3 in Mg–calcite constrains the minimum P–T condition higher than 2.5 GPa and 800 °C for the exhumation stage. As these marbles were subjected to nearly identical P–T metamorphic conditions, the appearance of diamond in some carbonate rocks was explained by high X co 2. A low X co 2 condition refers to high oxidized conditions and diamond (and/or graphite) becomes unstable. Difference in X co 2 for marble from the same area suggests local heterogeneity of fluid compositions during ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism.  相似文献

Abstract The Maksyutov Complex, situated in the southern Ural Mountains of Russia, is the first location where quartz aggregates within garnets exhibiting radial fractures were identified as coesite pseudomorphs (Chesnokov & Popov 1965). The complex consists of two tectonic units: a structurally lower eclogite-bearing schist unit and an overlying meta-ophiolite unit. Both units show evidence for multiple stages of metamorphism and deformation. The high-pressure metamorphism of the eclogite-bearing schist unit, discussed in this report, is suspected to be related to a collision between the Russian platform and a fragment of the Siberian continent during the early Cambrian. At least three stages of metamorphism (M1-3) and two stages of deformation (S1 and S2) were observed in thin sections: M1) garnet (Alm55-60, Prp22-28, Grs16-20) + omphacite (Jd46-56) + phengite (Si ≅ 3.5) + rutile; M2) garnet + glaucophane ± lawsonite + white mica; and M3) epidote + chlorite ± albite ± actinolite + white mica. Observed mineral parageneses define a retrograde P-T path for the eclogite. Mineral assemblages within the most representative eclogite from the lower unit of the Maksyutov Complex indicate minimum peak pressures of 15 kbar at temperatures of approximately 600°C. If the presence of coesite pseudomorph is confirmed, the peak ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism may be as high as 27 kbar at 615°C.  相似文献

Sequential time-step images acquired using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) show the displacement of deuterated water (D2O) by fresh water within two limestone samples characterized by a porous and permeable limestone matrix of peloids and ooids. These samples were selected because they have a macropore system representative of some parts of the eogenetic karst limestone of the Biscayne Aquifer in southeastern Florida. The macroporosity, created by the trace fossil Ophiomorpha , is principally well connected and of centimeter scale. These macropores occur in broadly continuous stratiform zones that create preferential flow layers within the hydrogeologic units of the Biscayne. This arrangement of porosity is important because in coastal areas, it could produce a preferential pathway for salt water intrusion. Two experiments were conducted in which samples saturated with D2O were placed in acrylic chambers filled with fresh water and examined with NMR. Results reveal a substantial flux of fresh water into the matrix porosity with a simultaneous loss of D2O. Specifically, we measured rates upward of 0.001 mL/h/g of sample in static conditions, and perhaps as great as 0.07 mL/h/g of sample when fresh water continuously flows past a sample at velocities less than those found within stressed areas of the Biscayne. These experiments illustrate how fresh water and D2O, with different chemical properties, migrate within one type of matrix porosity found in the Biscayne. Furthermore, these experiments are a comparative exercise in the displacement of sea water by fresh water in the matrix of a coastal, karst aquifer since D2O has a greater density than fresh water.  相似文献

The flow of ponded water into and through the unsaturated zone depends on both the saturated and unsaturated components of the hydraulic conductivity. Recent studies indicate that the ratio of the saturated (Kfs) to the unsaturated (φm) components (Kfsm=α*) of flow lies within prescribed bounds for most field soils, i.e., 1m−1≤α*≤ 100 m−1. In addition, the fact that the calculation of Kfs and φm is not strongly dependent on the choice of α*, suggests that a site estimation of α* leads to reasonable "best estimates" of Kfs and φm when using the constant head well permeameter technique. As a consequence, measurement of the steady flow rate using only one ponded head may be all that is necessary for many practical applications. Multiple head measurements or independent measurements of α* or φm can be used, however, to give more accurate estimates of Kfs if required.  相似文献

Aragonite and omphacite-bearing metapelite occurs in the albite–biotite zone of the Togu (Tohgu) area, Besshi region, Sambagawa metamorphic belt, central Shikoku, Japan. This metapelite consists of alternating graphite-rich and graphite-poor layers that contain garnet, phengite, chlorite, epidote, titanite, calcite, albite, and quartz. A graphite-poor layer contains a 1.5-cm ivory-colored lens that mainly consists of phengite, calcite, albite, and garnet. Aragonite, omphacite, and paragonite occur as inclusions in the garnet of the ivory lens. The aragonite has a composition that is close to the CaCO3 end-member: the FeCO3 and MnCO3 components are both less than 0.3 mol% and the SrCO3 component is about 1 mol%. The aragonite + omphacite + quartz assemblage in garnet indicates equilibrium conditions of P  > 1.1–1.3 GPa and T  = 430–550°C. Quartz grains sealed in garnet of the aragonite and omphacite-bearing sample and other metapelites in the Togu area preserve a high residual pressure that is equivalent to the Sambagawa eclogite samples. These facts suggest that: (i) the Togu area experienced eclogite facies metamorphism; and (ii) thus, eclogite facies metamorphism covered the Sambagawa belt more extensively than previously recognized.  相似文献

Azimuth-dependent AVO in reservoirs containing non-orthogonal fracture sets   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Azimuthal anisotropy in rocks can result from the presence of one or more sets of partially aligned fractures with orientations determined by the stress history of the rock. The symmetry of a rock with horizontal bedding that contains two or more non-orthogonal sets of vertical fractures may be approximated as monoclinic with a horizontal plane of mirror symmetry. For offsets that are small compared with the depth of the reflector, the azimuthal variation in P-wave AVO gradient for such a medium varies with azimuth as     where φ is the azimuth measured with respect to the fast polarization direction for a vertically polarized shear wave. φ 2 depends on both the normal compliance B N and the shear compliance B T of the fractures and may differ from zero if B N B T varies significantly between fracture sets. If B N B T is the same for all fractures,     and the principal axes of the azimuthal variation in P-wave AVO for fixed offset are determined by the polarization directions of a vertically propagating shear wave. At larger offsets, terms in     and     are required to describe the azimuthal variation in AVO accurately. φ 4 and φ 6 also depend on B N B T. For gas-filled open fractures     but a lower value of B N B T may result from the presence of a fluid with non-zero bulk modulus.  相似文献

A fully instrumented physical model was designed and built to reproduce development by surging and monitor its effects during surging and after development. The model simulates a horizontal layer in a confined aquifer with control of vertical overburden pressure. An automatic apparatus produced development by surging in successive phases up to 24 hours. Aquifer tests in steady-state conditions were performed between successive phases. The paper reports the main results of three experiments performed with Johnson screens 200 mm in diameter; they had slot sizes between the D54 and D70 of the aquifer soil. This soil was placed under controlled conditions, and initial homogeneity was obtained as confirmed by initial control tests. Pore pressures (and thus hydraulic heads) were continuously monitored during development phases and aquifer tests by 22 electronic piezometers at distances between 0 and 1 m from the screen. These piezometers measured water pressures every 0.1 s when required. Solid particles passing through the screen were recovered to study the solid yield and the gradation of particles. Positive and negative values of local gradients reached values up to 400 close to the screen at the beginning of development and decreased with time of development. These high values produced high seepage forces displacing particles in the aquifer. The well yield was increased by a factor of 6 after development. These model test results confirmed empirical criteria on entrance velocity, internal stability criteria, and field values of "sand" production by development. In addition, they enabled a quantification of skin effects to be considered in interpreting an aquifer test.  相似文献

A deep-seated analog of the syntaxis developed in the Tibetan Plateau occurs in the Grenville Orogen of eastern Laurentia. During the final assembly of Rodinia, Amazonia collided with Laurentia and produced a series of large, conjugate, transcurrent, shear systems and pervasive strike-slip deformation that overprinted compressional structures related to the Ottawan Orogeny (the last orogenic phase of what is considered Grenvillian). A northeast-striking dextral system at least 35-km wide developed in the Reading Prong of New York (locally known as the Hudson Highlands), New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. U-Pb SHRIMP zircon geochronology and Ar/Ar thermochronology on the lowest grade cataclasites constrain the age of movement between 1008 and 876 Ma. A 60-km-wide, east-west striking, sinistral shear system developed across the central Adirondack Highlands. This system overprints rocks with granulite-facies metamorphic assemblages containing ca. 1050 Ma metamorphic zircons and is cut by a swarm of 950 Ma leucogranites. The timing, geometric relationships, and shear sense of the Adirondacks and Reading Prong shear systems suggest a conjugate system within a syntaxis with bulk compression directed ENE–WSW. This tectonic scenario invokes a component of strike-parallel deformation during the Ottawan Orogeny and provides a kinematic mechanism for an otherwise enigmatic, synchronous, late (ca. 930 Ma) extensional event including the Carthage–Colton mylonite zone in the northwest Adirondacks and Canada.  相似文献

Conglomerates of the Kuma Group, central Shikoku, southwest Japan contain Sanbagawa schist clasts with a variety of metamorphic grades and lithologies. K–Ar and 40Ar/39Ar dating of phengite show all the pelitic schist clasts from low- to high-grade zones have similar phengite ages (82–84 Ma) that are significantly older than those from the in situ Sanbagawa sequence of central Shikoku. This is because the Kuma–Sanbagawa sequence was exhumed earlier than the in situ Asemi sequence with an exhumation process intermediate between those for the Kanto Mountains and the in situ Asemi sequences. 40A/39Ar plateau ages (103 and 117 Ma) of phengite in amphibolites indicate the timing of the early stage of the exhumation of the metamorphic pile, probably close to the peak metamorphic age.  相似文献

Abstract   The mineral assemblages of the pumpellyite–actinolite facies such as pumpellyite + actinolite + epidote + chlorite or actinolite + epidote + hematite + chlorite occur in the Sanbagawa low-grade metamorphic region, central Shikoku, southwest Japan. Chemical compositions of these minerals from the eight newly studied areas were analyzed in order to evaluate the areal extent and thermal structure of the region. In the buffered assemblage of pumpellyite + actinolite + epidote + chlorite, the Fe3+/(Fe3+ + Al) values of epidote decrease slightly with decreasing Fe2+/(Fe2+ + Mg) values for chlorite. The changes in these values show a general correlation with temperature. The presence of this relationship implies that the Fe3+/(Fe3+ + Al) values of epidote can be used to divide the Sanbagawa low-grade metamorphic region into low-, medium- and high-grade subzones. The areal distribution of these subzones indicates that: (i) the temperature seems to decrease in the same sense as envisaged by the zonal mapping of the higher-grade pelitic schists; and (ii) there is no significant gap of metamorphic conditions through the boundary between the two structural units (Besshi and Oboke units). It follows that the Sanbagawa low-grade metamorphic region decreases in temperature going up the structural section, and tectonic discontinuities have not affected the thermal structure.  相似文献

Abstract   We collected free-gas and in situ fluid samples up to a depth of 200.6 m from the Sagara oil field, central Japan (34°44'N, 138°15'E), during the Sagara Drilling Program (SDP) and measured the concentrations and stable carbon isotopic compositions of CH4 and C2H6 in the samples. A combination of the CH4/C2H6 ratios with the carbon isotope ratios of methane indicates that the hydrocarbon gases are predominantly of thermogenic origin at all depths. The isotope signature of hydrocarbon gases of δ13      < δ13     suggests that these gases in the Sagara oil field are not generated by polymerization, but by the decomposition of organic materials.  相似文献

Abstract Quartz c-axis fabrics of the Sambagawa schists produced along a late Mesozoic convergent plate margin were analysed so that their tectono-metamorphic history could be clarified. It has been noted by many authors that quartz fabrics produced by earlier phase deformation are easily modified by strain increment during later phase deformation. This paper attempts to elucidate the high-temperature phases of prograde metamorphism (Sim-Bim phase) and of retrograde metamorphism (Sb1 phase and Sb2−1 phase) from quartz grains included in garnet and plagioclase porphyroblasts. Quartz c-axis fabrics for all these phases are explained in terms of a type I crossed girdle, without (only rarely with) higher concentration in the principal axis of strain Y (X>Y>Z), that must have been produced by the activity of a dominant slip system such as rhomb and basal. As a result, the plastic deformation of quartz, which was responsible for the formation of the type I crossed girdle, occurred even under temperatures greater than 500°C and pressures a little greater than 10–11 kb, which correspond to the physical condition of the Sim-Bim phase. It has been assumed that a high strain rate (and/or low H2O content) caused rhomb and basal to be active as dominant slip systems in the subduction zone related to the formation of the Sambagawa schists even under high temperatures (> 500°C).  相似文献

Variably dismembered and metamorphosed accretionary complexes constitute the basement of much of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. The most extensive of these is the Pompangeo Schist Complex, which crops out over ∼ 5000 km2 in central Sulawesi, and is predominantly composed of interbanded phyllitic marble, calcareous phyllite, graphitic schist and quartzite; rocks of terrigenous to shallow marine origin. Along the eastern margin of the complex, schists are interthrust with unmetamorphosed Jurassic sandstone, which may represent parental material of the complex. The schists are unconformably overlain by pelagic sediments with an Albian–Cenomanian biostratigraphy. Synmetamorphic progressive deformation of the Pompangeo Schist Complex has resulted in repeated isoclinal folding and a strong transposition foliation striking north-northwest/south-southeast and dipping west, subparallel to the compositional banding of the complex; microstructural fabrics indicate a top-to-east sense of shear. On a regional scale the Pompangeo Schist Complex is lithostratigraphically coherent and an east-to-west metamorphic field gradient is recognizable, which, if continuous, represents a relatively low thermal gradient of ∼ 15 °C/km. K–Ar dating yielded ages of ca 111 Ma. Correlative metamorphic rocks appear to underlie the entire Neogene magmatic province, since they occur sporadically throughout western Sulawesi, including the Bantimala region of the South Arm. The Pompangeo schist metamorphism cannot be correlated with arc magmatism in western Sulawesi, which is of Neogene age. The Pompangeo and Bantimala schists, as well as other accretionary complexes in western Sulawesi, were probably generated in the same subduction system that was responsible for the extensive Mesozoic continental arc in central Kalimantan, at the eastern margin of Sundaland.  相似文献

Abstract   Reaction zones of 0.5–10.0 m thick are commonly observed between serpentinite and pelitic schist in the Nishisonogi metamorphic rocks, Kyushu, Japan. Each reaction zone consists of almost monomineralic or bimineralic layers of talc + carbonates, actinolite (or carbonates + quartz), chlorite, muscovite and albite from serpentinite to pelitic schist. Magnesite + quartz veins extend into the serpentinite from the talc + carbonates layer, while dolomite veins extend into the pelitic schist from the muscovite layer. These veins are filled by subhedral minerals with oriented growth features. Primary fluid inclusions yield the same homogenization temperatures (145–150°C) both in the reaction zone and in the veins, suggesting their simultaneous formation. Mass-balance calculations using the isocon method indicate that SiO2, MgO, H2O and K2O are depleted in the reaction zone relative to the protoliths. These components were probably extracted from the reaction zone as fluids during the formation of the reaction zone.  相似文献

Abstract   Six oil samples collected from the Sagara oil field, Shizuoka Prefecture, were geochemically analyzed. Unlike the Niigata oils, the Sagara oils: (i) are low-sulphur light oils dominated by gasoline and kerosene fractions; (ii) have low values of environment index in light hydrocarbon compositions; (iii) have high Pr/ n -C17 and low Ph/ n -C18 ratios and high oleanane/hopane ratios; (iv) have high relative abundance of C29 and low relative abundance of C28 regular steranes; and (v) have 'light' stable carbon isotope compositions. These characteristics show that the source rocks of the Sagara oils contain mainly marine organic matter, but with more input of terrigenous organic matter deposited under more oxic conditions compared to those of the Niigata oils. The light carbon isotope compositions and the low relative abundance of C28 regular steranes of the Sagara oils suggest that their source rock is not Miocene, but probably Paleogene in age. The Sagara oils probably migrated along faults from deeper parts of the basin.  相似文献

Sorption of dissolved Fe2+ on bentonite was studied using a batch technique. The distribution coefficient, Kd , was evaluated for a bentonite-iron system as a function of contact time, pH, sorbent and sorbate concentrations, and temperature. Sorption results were interpreted in terms of Freundlich's and Langmuir's equations. Thermodynamic parameters for the sorption system were determined at three temperatures: 298°, 308°, and 318°K. The values of ΔH°(-4.0 kjmol−1) and ΔG°(-2.46 Kjmol−1) at 298°K (25°C) suggest that sorption of iron on bentonite is an exothermic and a spontaneous process. The ΔG° value became less negative at higher temperatures and, therefore, less iron was sorbed at higher temperatures. The desorption studies with 0.01 M CaCl2 and deionized water at iron loading on bentonite showed that more than 90 wt% of the iron is irreversibly sorbed, probably due to the fixation of the iron by isomorphous replacement in the crystal lattice of the sorbent.  相似文献

Abstract   The Lower Sorachi Group of the Sorachi–Yezo Belt in central Hokkaido, Japan is a peculiar accretionary complex characterized by numerous occurrences of greenstones (metabasalts and diabases), which are mostly composed of aphyric basalts. Clinopyroxene-rich phenocryst assemblage in phyric basalts is different from olivine–plagioclase assemblage in mid-oceanic ridge basalts (MORB). The greenstones are geochemically uniform, and show a lower-Ti trend than MORB in an FeO*/MgO-TiO2 diagram, mostly plotting on the island arc tholeiite (IAT) field in a TiO2−10MnO−10P2O5 diagram. In a MORB-normalized spider diagram, the greenstones show a flat pattern from P to Y, which are lower than those of normal mid-oceanic ridge basalt (N-MORB). These indicate that the greenstones were derived by a higher degree of partial melting from a depleted mantle similar to a N-MORB source, and experienced olivine–clinopyroxene fractional crystallization. However, a positive spike of Nb in the spider diagram cannot be explained, and may be attributed to mantle heterogeneity. These characteristics are analogous to those of oceanic plateau basalts (OPB) such as in Ontong Java Plateau, Manihiki Plateau and Nauru Basin, suggesting that the greenstones in the Lower Sorachi Group are of oceanic plateau origin. The present study proposes new field divisions to distinguish OPB from MORB in the conventional FeO*/MgO–TiO2 and TiO2−10MnO−10P2O5 diagrams.  相似文献

Hydrogen gas was discovered within the steel casing above standing water in a percussion-drilled borehole on the Hanlord Site in south-central Washington state. In situ measurements of the borehole fluids indicated anoxic, low-Eh (<-400 mV) conditions. Ground water sampled from adjacent wells in the same formation indicated that the ground water was oxygenated. H2 was generated during percussion drilling, due to the decomposition of borehole waters as a result of aqueous reactions with drilled sediment and steel from the drilling tools or casing. The generation of H2 within percussion-drilled boreholes that extend below the water table may be more common than previously realized. The ambient concentration of H2 produced during drilling was limited by microbial activity within the casing-resident fluids. H2 was generated abiotically in the laboratory, whereby sterilized borehole slurry samples produced 100 times more H2 than unsterilizcd samples. It appears that H2 is metabolized by microorganisms and concentrations might be significantly greater if not for microbial metabolism.  相似文献

Electromigration is proposed as an in situ method for preconcentrating contaminants in ground water prior to pumping and treating. In earlier investigations by the senior author and co-workers, it was found that Cu in synthetic ground water migrated strongly to a Pt cathode and plated out as metallic copper. In the present study, carbon electrodes were inserted into a laboratory column of fine quartz sand that was saturated with a lower concentration of CuSO4 solution. A fixed potential of 2.5 V was applied, causing dissolved Cu and SO4 to accumulate strongly at the cathode and anode, respectively. Only minor plating-out of Cu took place on the carbon electrodes. In addition to the use of carbon electrodes, the present research also investigated the effects of a lower concentration of metal, accumulation of SO4 adjacent to the anodes, adsorption of Cu on the sand, and competition by moving ground water.
At an imposed voltage of 2.5 V and in the presence of 65 mg/L of dissolved Cu and 96 mg/L of SO4 (0.001 M CuSO4 solution), electrolysis of water caused large changes in the pH and speciation of the aqueous components, as well as precipitation of solid Cu-hydroxides. Significant retardation of Cu occurred in the presence of ground water flowing at an average intergranular velocity of 0.2 m/day, but only minor retardation at water velocities of 1.9 and 2.9 m/day.
Sulfate tends to migrate strongly to the anodes, suggesting that in situ electromigration may offer a useful new method for preconcentrating such highly soluble ions as SO4, NO3, and CI that are difficult to remove by conventional pump-and-treat methods. A number of potential problems exist that should be addressed in a field test.  相似文献
