Temperature and Damage Impact on the Permeability of Opalinus Clay   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The effects of temperature on the water transport properties of intact and damaged Opalinus (OPA) clay are investigated by using a recently developed hollow cylinder triaxial cell [Monfared (Int J Rock Mech Min Sci 48:637–649, 2011b)] that allows full saturation and drainage conditions in low-permeability clays and shales. The volumetric response of saturated OPA clay sample during a drained heating test shows an irreversible contraction after a temperature threshold. The permeability tests which are performed before and after the heating test show that the induced irreversible sample contraction by thermal loading reduces the permeability of OPA clay sample. In order to study the effect of temperature on the permeability of a damaged sample of OPA clay, the permeability tests are performed on a saturated sample previously sheared by a standard drained triaxial loading. The test results show no significant effect of shear-type damage on the permeability of the sample at 25 °C and 80 °C. The experimental results presented in this paper show the crucial role of the thermally induced strains on sample permeability. Thermo-elastic dilation leads to a slight increase of the permeability, whereas thermoplastic contraction leads to a reduction.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation carried out to study thermally induced volume changes under drained heating condition and thermally induced excess pore water pressures under undrained heating condition of soft Bangkok clay. The clay was heated up from room temperature (25 °C) to 90 °C using a modified oedometer and a triaxial test apparatus, respectively. The clay was found to exhibit temperature induced volume changes and temperature induced excess pore water pressures, in the range of temperatures investigated, depending mainly on the stress history. A theoretical microstructure mechanism that can interpret the thermally induced volume change behaviour at different stress conditions is presented in this study. Furthermore, the thermally induced excess pore water pressure behaviour at different stress conditions is explained using the unloading–reloading hysteresis of the typical soil consolidation curve. The results of this study provide additional data that can enhance the understanding of the thermo-mechanical behaviour concepts of saturated clays.  相似文献

Tests on specimens of reconstituted illitic clay have examined the influence of temperature on the mechanical behaviour of clay soils. The program involved consolidation to effective confining pressures up to 1.5 MPa, heating to 100°C, and tests on normally consolidated and overconsolidated specimens with OCR = 2. The tests included isotropic consolidation, undrained triaxial compression with pore water pressure measurement, drained tests along controlled stress paths to investigate yielding behaviour, and undrained tests which involved heating and measurement of the resulting induced pore water pressures. The large strain strength envelope is independent of temperature. However, peak undrained strengths increase with temperature because smaller pore water pressures are generated during shearing. An important contribution from the study is a series of results for the yielding of illitic clay at three different temperatures. For the first time, there is clear evidence of yield loci decreasing in size with increasing temperature. An associated flow rule can be assumed without serious error. The results contribute to the confirmation of a thermal elastic-plastic soil model developed by the authors from cam clay following the addition of a small number of extra assumptions. Depending on the initial stress state, heating under undrained conditions may produce shear failure.  相似文献

在试验结果的基础上,提出了动力荷载作用下计算软粘土残余变形的模式。并将计算结果与不排水和部分排水情况下观测到的孔隙水压力及残余应变进行比较,两者具有较好的吻合性。本文所提出的计算模式可用来估算动力荷载(例如地震荷载、交通荷载)作用下建于软粘土地基上的建筑物及其它设施所产生的附加沉降。  相似文献

This study presents an evaluation of yielding mechanisms for unsaturated, compacted silt using drained triaxial compression tests with control of elevated temperatures and high suction magnitudes. After anisotropic compression, some compacted silt specimens were heated by approximately 40 °C before a suction of approximately 300 MPa was applied, while others were heated after suction application. A frictional response was observed for the specimens sheared under high suction magnitudes, in the form of a consistent increase in peak shear strength with increasing net confining stress. An effective stress analysis was used to evaluate the trends in the peak shear stress and the role of stress history for the different specimens. A single peak failure envelope was observed when the shear strength data was interpreted in terms of the mean effective stress. Changes in preconsolidation stress were estimated by identifying the intersections between a thermo-elasto-plastic yield function and the experimental peak shear strength values. Soil specimens heated before application of high suction values had lower peak shear strengths than reference specimens at high suction and ambient temperature. This behaviour is consistent with thermal softening trends observed in soils heated under low suction values. However, soil specimens heated after suction application had greater peak shear strengths than the reference specimens. This indicates heating under high suction results in hardening. The impact of suction on the preconsolidation stress was found to be better represented by a power law model at high suction magnitudes than other available models. The estimated preconsolidation stress values were used to evaluate the impacts of stress history on the thermal volume change response, which matched well with data from tests on saturated specimens.  相似文献

On the one hand, it has been observed that liquefaction‐induced shear deformation of soils accumulates in a cycle‐by‐cycle pattern. On the other hand, it is known that heating could induce plastic hardening. This study deals with the constitutive modelling of the effect that heat may have on the cyclic mechanical properties of cohesive soils, a relatively new area of interest in soil mechanics. In this paper, after a presentation of the thermo‐mechanical framework, a non‐isothermal plasticity cyclic model formulation is presented and discussed. The model calibration is described based on data from laboratory sample tests. It includes numerical simulations of triaxial shear tests at various constant temperatures. Then, the model predictions are compared with experimental results and discussed in the final section. Both drained and undrained loading conditions are considered. 上海第4层黏土是典型的结构性海相软土,用一个本构模型统一地模拟不同应力路径下的力学特性对数值计算具有重要意义。对UNIFIED模型的结构性及超固结发展函数进行了改进,并提出了一种确定原状土材料参数和初始状态的方法。为了验证修正模型的正确性,用块状取土法取得上海第4层原状土样,进行了固结试验和三轴排水、不排水剪切试验。通过比较试验结果和本构模拟结果,明确了新的本构模型仅用一组材料参数就能统一地模拟上海第4层黏土在固结、排水及不排水三轴试验得到的应力-应变关系。模拟结果揭示了上海第4层黏土的结构比较稳定,即使在经历三轴剪切发生35%轴应变后仍能保持较高位的结构性。  相似文献

The study of the temperature effects on the behaviour of saturated and unsaturated soils on triaxial paths requires the development of a new triaxial experimental device of 3.5 MPa of confining pressure and equipped with a heating collar-controlled temperature. In addition to this case of the unsaturated soils, a special pedestal is developed, so as to impose suctions up to 9 MPa using an osmotic solution of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000 through a permeable semi-membrane. Measurements of the degree of saturation and the variation of volume during tests induce various problems, primarily related to the thermal dilation of the osmotic solution and the cell-water system. These problems have been solved by carrying out a preliminary calibration. The applicability of this new apparatus concerns environmental geotechnics and geological engineering such as the design and behaviour of engineered barriers as well as the behaviour of the receiving layers of storage sites like radioactive waste.  相似文献

A Laboratory Investigation on Thermal Properties of the Opalinus Claystone   总被引:4,自引:4,他引:0  
Some aspects of the thermal behavior of the Opalinus claystone are investigated through laboratory tests conducted on a new hollow cylinder triaxial apparatus specially designed for studying the thermo-hydro-mechanical behavior of very low permeable materials. Two hollow cylinder samples are first resaturated under isotropic stress state equal to the mean effective in situ one in order to minimize swelling and induced damage during the resaturation phase. Two drained heating–cooling cycles are performed on the first sample of Opalinus claystone. During the first cycle, a thermo-elasto-plastic response similar to that of plastic clays with low overconsolidation ratio is obtained. The thermal hardening of the sample is demonstrated by the quasi-reversible behavior of the sample during the second heating–cooling cycle. An undrained heating test performed on the second sample of Opalinus claystone induces an excess pore pressure in this sample. This induced pore pressure is attributed to the higher thermal expansion coefficient of pore water compared to that of the solid phase. It is shown that the excess pore pressure generated in the sample by undrained heating cannot be modeled by considering the free water thermal expansion coefficient. The thermal expansion coefficient of the Opalinus claystone water is back-analyzed from the experimental results which show a higher value than free water.  相似文献

采用回映应力更新算法,编写了基于伏斯列夫面的超固结黏土本构关系模型子程序,嵌入非线性有限元软件ABAQUS。通过对单元试验进行三轴压缩、三轴伸长及平面应变等问题的模型预测,再现了超固结黏土在不同初始超固结比和应力路径时的变形和强度特性,从而验证了子程序的正确性。借助该本构模型,对三轴压缩、三轴伸长及平面应变应力路径下超固结黏土体变形局部化问题,进行了三维数值模拟。分析结果表明:超固结黏土在三轴压缩及伸长状态时,土体变形局部化在应力-应变关系软化时出现,而平面应变状态时,在应力-应变关系硬化阶段出现,其超固结黏土的剪胀特性在剪切带的形成过程中起重要作用。  相似文献

通过对温州典型饱和软黏土进行一系列不同应力路径下的部分排水循环动三轴试验,研究了部分排水条件下循环围压对饱和软黏土变形特性的影响。试验结果表明:部分排水条件下,与常规的围压保持恒定,偏应力单独循环作用下的三轴试验结果相比,循环围压的存在对饱和软黏土的永久体应变和永久轴向应变均产生了的显著的影响。在相同循环应力比和循环次数下,试样的永久体应变和永久轴向应变均随着循环围压幅值的增大而增大,说明常规的恒定围压循环三轴试验会低估高速交通荷载作用下路基土体的沉降。基于试样第10 000圈的永久体应变和永久轴向应变,分别建立了可以量化部分排水条件下循环围压对饱和软黏土永久体应变和永久轴向应变影响的经验公式,并用于预测饱和软黏土在交通荷载这种包含循环偏应力和循环围压耦合作用的复杂应力条件下产生的永久变形。  相似文献

The present paper investigates the mechanical behaviour of oil sand specimens in triaxial compression tests at both ambient and elevated temperatures. The emphasis is particularly on core sample disturbance and on the multiphase/strongly heterogeneous nature of the material that introduces difficulties in achieving an objective characterization of its shear behaviour. First, the effect of sample disturbance on the behaviour of the oil sand is studied. Tests are performed on both disturbed and recompressed specimens. Recompression to large stress prior to shearing improves evaluation of the initial stiffness and associated volumetric changes of the oil sand, strongly affected by sample disturbance. A method for the correction of test results obtained from disturbed specimens is also proposed. The corrected results are in good agreement with those pertaining to recompressed specimens. Furthermore, a general classification of the tested oil sands into lean and rich in bitumen, where the former shows much softer and weaker behaviour, is considered to help in addressing the variability in sample composition. As for thermal aspects, the experimental results indicate that both strength and stiffness exhibit a limited temperature dependency. The temperature does not affect lean oil sand specimens, whereas heating considerably increases deformability of rich specimens.  相似文献

针对非饱和重塑黏土,利用改进的非饱和土静力-动力液压三轴-扭转多功能剪切仪,在固结排水(CD)条件下进行了应力控制式分级加载的循环三轴试验,通过对试验结果的对比分析,探讨了初始固结压力和基质吸力(孔隙气压力Ua与孔隙水压力Uw之差)对非饱和土动应力-动应变关系特性的影响。以此为基础,将Hardin-Drnerich等价黏弹性模型和Masing加卸载准则进行了改进,并得到了可以考虑基质吸力的非饱和黏土的等价黏弹性模型。进而对试验数据与模型预测结果进行比较,结果表明这种改进的非饱和土等价黏弹性模型能较好预测各种基质吸力下非饱和土的动应力-动应变关系。  相似文献

In this study the effect of the temperature increase on the hydro-mechanical properties of sheared Boom clay samples is investigated. Two samples of Boom clay are resaturated in a new hollow cylinder triaxial cell with a short drainage path and then sheared by performing an axisymmetric triaxial loading. The effect of the undrained heating under deviatoric stress is studied on the first sample. It is shown that undrained temperature increase leads to an increase of pore water pressure and consequently to a decrease of the effective mean stress which brings the sample to failure. For an initially sheared sample, the failure occurs along the existing shear band which behaves as a weakness plane in the sample. The responses of the local strain measurement transducers clearly show the sliding of rigid blocks when failure occurs in the sample.The effect of the presence of a shear band on the permeability of the other Boom clay sample is investigated at ambient temperature and at 80 °C. It is shown that the presence of a shear band does not affect significantly the permeability. These results confirm the good self sealing properties of Boom clay at ambient and at high temperature.  相似文献

Marine clay supporting high-temperature offshore structure susceptible to random movements (such as a buckling high-temperature pipeline) experiences variable shearing rates at an elevated temperature that is higher than the marine environment (typically 4 °C). This practically implies that the undrained shear strength (su) of the marine clay being routinely characterized in situ by penetrometers at a constant rate under an isothermal condition (4 °C) should be carefully corrected, by taking into account the temperature and rate dependency. To date, the combined effects of rate and temperature on the undrained shear behaviour of marine clay are merely investigated experimentally and theoretically. This study presents the development of an anisotropic thermo-elastic–viscoplastic model and a series of temperature- and rate-controlled triaxial tests for validation purpose. Compared to the modified Cam-Clay model, the proposed model only introduces three new parameters to characterize the temperature dependency, rate dependency and the inherent anisotropy of K0-consolidated marine clay. The predictive capability of the model has been validated by the triaxial test results. Based on the new model, an explicit equation is formulated for quantifying the temperature- and rate-dependent su of marine clay. Calculation charts are also developed to quantify su of marine clay with different plasticity indexes under various strain rates and temperatures.

Clays treated with lower cement contents often exhibit behaviour similar to stiff clays with planar failure surface under triaxial compression. In the present work the behaviour of a marine clay treated with 5 % cement, subjected to undrained triaxial compression tests is studied. The pre-consolidation pressure of the cemented clay due to the cementation bonding is observed to be very high. It is attempted to model the behaviour of cement treated clay using a bounding surface plasticity formulation as the plastic behaviour of the cemented clays within the yield surface has to be considered. The effect of cementation is included in the model as the pre-consolidation pressure obtained from consolidation tests. The tensile strength due to cementation bonds is included in the equation of the bounding surface. Simulations of the undrained triaxial compression tests on cemented clays are carried out and the results are validated with the experimental results.  相似文献

Research on the effect of temperature changes on the behaviour of geomaterials has become increasingly important in recent years. This growing interest is partially due to the recent development of high-level nuclear waste disposals. Because of the complex influence of temperature in these areas, it is necessary to understand the effects of temperature on rock-like materials and use the appropriate constitutive equations to numerically model these phenomena. In this paper, a thermoplastic/viscoplastic constitutive model is developed for this purpose. The model includes thermal softening, the evolution of the yield functions with temperature, and the effects of temperature on the time-dependent behaviour. The model performance is demonstrated by some simple test cases on Tournemire and Bure clayey rocks including triaxial compression tests and creep tests under constant temperatures. The numerical results are discussed using experimental data, which demonstrate that the model can reproduce the overall behaviour of this type of materials under deviatoric loads and non-isothermal conditions.  相似文献

以非饱和土的非线性模型为基础,通过对土性参数的修正和考虑温度本身引起的土的变形,建立了考虑温度效应的重塑非饱和膨胀土的本构模型。该模型包括土骨架的本构关系和水量变化的本构关系两个方面,涉及18个参数,都可用非饱和土三轴试验确定。共做了13个重塑非饱和膨胀土温控三轴试验,分析了温度对土的强度和变形的影响,研究了模型参数的变化规律。  相似文献
