We present a preliminary analysis of medium resolution optical spectra of comet C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR) obtained on 22 November 2001. Theemission lines of the molecules C2, C3, CN, NH2,H2O+ and presumably CO (Asundi and triplet bands) and C2 -were identified in these spectra. By analysing the brightnessdistributions of the C2, C3, CN emission lines along theslit of the spectrograph we determined some physical parameters of theseneutrals, such as their lifetimes and expansion velocities inthe coma. The Franck–Condon factors for the CO Asundi bands and C2 - bands were calculated using a Morse potential model.  相似文献

We obtained spectra of comet C/1999 S4 (LINEAR) with the UAGS spectrograph(long slit and CCD) installed on the 1-m Zeiss reflector of the SAO of the RAS(Northern Caucuses, Nizhny Arkhyz) on July 23/24, 26/27 and 27/28, 2000. OnJuly 22/23, before the splitting of the cometary nucleus, several emission lines, such as C2, C3, CN, NH, CH, NH2, CO+, H2O+ wereclearly identified in the spectra. The inspections of the CCD spectra obtainedon July 27/28, 2000 reveals only very weak emission lines superimposed on thesolar reflection spectrum. From analyzing the surface brightness profile of C2 along the slit the velocity of separation of two secondary fragments (V = 10 km/h) and the energy of the fragment separation (E = 8.7 × 1015 erg) were estimated. A luminescence cometary continuum of 26% of the total continuum level is detected in the spectra of the comet at 5000 Å. Possible mechanisms of nucleus splitting are discussed.  相似文献

We present the results of polarimetric and photometric observations of dynamically new comet C/2002 T7 (LINEAR) at phase angles from 6° to 26°. During the observations, the comet was at a distance of 2.7–1.3 AU from the Sun and 1.7–2.0 AU from the Earth. The aperture polarimetry was made with the 2.6-m Shain telescope and the 1.25-m AZT-11 telescope of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory and with the 0.7-m telescope of the Astronomical Institute of the Kharkiv National University during the period from November 21, 2003, to February 21, 2004. The wideband UBVRI and WRC (λ7228/1142 Å) filters and the narrowband GC (λ5260/56 Å) filter were used. The photometric observations of the comet were carried out on February 21, 2004, with narrowband filters isolated the BC (λ4845/65 Å) and RC (λ6840/90 Å) continuum and the C2 emission (λ5140/90 Å). The phase-angle dependence of linear polarization of the comet has been obtained, and its parameters, such as the minimal polarization P min = ?1.63%, the phase angle of the minimal polarization αmin = 10.6°, the inversion angle αinv = 22.7°, and the slope of the phase curve at the inversion angle h = 0.24% per degree, were found. From the photometric observations, the following quantities have been obtained: the column density of molecules C2 in the line of sight logN (C2) = ?9.15 mol/cm2 and their production rate log Q (C2) = 27.11 mol/s, the spectral gradient of reflectivity for the dust S′(BC, RC) ≈ 3%/1000 Å, and the dust production parameter Afρ equal to 371 and 273 cm for the blue and red continuum ranges, respectively. According to these results, the physical parameters of comet C/2002 T7 are close to the average characteristics of typical dusty comets.  相似文献

The paper presents the results of the spectral observations of comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) acquired with the Zeiss-600 telescope of the Andrushevka astronomical observatory in May 2004. The spectrum of the comet was obtained in the range of 3600–8200 Å. We identified a number of emission features in the spectrum of comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT). The emission bands of C2, C3, CN, CH, NH2, H2O+ were detected in the spectrum of the comet, and their intensities were determined. The ratios of gas-production rates Q(C2)/Q(CN) = 0.23, Q(C3)/Q(CN) = ?0.79, and Q(NH2)/Q(CN) = ?0.029 were determined with the Haser model.  相似文献

We investigated comets active at large heliocentric distances using observations obtained at the 6-m BTA telescope (SAO RAS, Russia). Long-slit and photometric modes of the focal reducer SCORPIO were used. Two of the comets, 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 (SW1) and C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) were observed to be emission rich. Detection of CO+ and N+2 emissions in the comae of these comets is evidence that they were formed in the outer regions of the Solar System or in a pre-solar interstellar cloud in a low temperature environment with T?25 K. The ratio of N+2/CO+ is equal to 0.011 and 0.027 for SW1 and LINEAR, respectively. Comet LINEAR is the most distant object in the Solar System (7.332 AU) for which CO+ and N+2 are measured. The photometric maximum of the isolated CO+ coma in Comet LINEAR is shifted by 1.4 arcsec (7.44×103 km) relative to the photometric maximum of the dust coma. This shift deviates from the sunward direction by 63 degrees.  相似文献

In this paper we have studied the chemistry of C, H, N, O, and S compounds corresponding to ions of masses ?40 amu in the inner coma of the Comet 1P/Halley. The production rates, loss rates, and ion mass densities are calculated using the Analytical Yield Spectrum approach and solving coupled continuity equation controlled by the steady state photochemical equilibrium condition. The primary ionization sources in the model are solar EUV photons, photoelectrons, and auroral electrons of the solar wind origin. The chemical model couples ion-neutral, electron-neutral, photon-neutral and electron-ion reactions among ions, neutrals, electrons, and photons through over 600 chemical reactions. Of the 46 ions considered in the model the chemistry of 24 important ions (viz., CH3OH+2, H3CO+, NH+4, H3S+, H2CN+, H2O+, NH+3, CO+, C3H+3, OH+, H3O+, CH3OH+, C3H+4, C2H+2, C2H+, HCO+, S+, CH+3, H2S+, O+, C+, CH+4, C+2, and O+2) are discussed in this paper. At radial distances <1000 km, the electron density is mainly controlled by 6 ions, viz., NH+4, H3O+, CH3OH+2, H3S+, H2CN+, and H2O+, in the decreasing order of their relative contribution. However, at distances >1000 km, the 6 major ions are H3O+, CH3OH+2, H2O+, H3CO+, C2H+2, and NH+4; along with ions CO+, OH+, and HCO+, whose importance increases with further increase in the radial distance. It is found that at radial distances greater than ∼1000 km (±500 km) the major chemical processes that govern the production and loss of several of the important ions in the inner coma are different from those that dominate at distances below this value. The importance of photoelectron impact ionization, and the relative contributions of solar EUV, and auroral and photoelectron ionization sources in the inner coma are clearly revealed by the present study. The calculated ion mass densities are compared with the Giotto Ion Mass Spectrometer (IMS) and Neutral Mass Spectrometer (NMS) data at radial distances 1500, 3500, and 6000 km. There is a reasonable agreement between the model calculation and the Giotto measurements. The nine major peaks in the IMS spectra between masses 10 and 40 amu are reproduced fairly well by the model within a factor of two inside the ionopause. We have presented simple formulae for calculating densities of the nine major ions, which contribute to the nine major peaks in the IMS spectra, throughout the inner coma that will be useful in estimating their densities without running the complex chemical models.  相似文献

We report results of quantum chemical calculations of Mg+/ligand bond dissociation energies involving ligands identified as major constituents of Titan's upper atmosphere. Trends identified in these results allow elucidation of the important bimolecular and termolecular reactions of Mg+, and of simple molecular ions containing Mg+, arising from meteoric infall into Titan's atmosphere. Our study highlights, and includes calculated rate coefficients for, crucial ligand-switching and ligand-stripping reactions which ensure that a dynamic equilibrium exists between atomic and molecular ions of Mg+. Neutralization of ionized meteoric Mg is expected to produce the radical MgNC in high yield. The highly polar MgNC radical should provide an excellent nucleation site for condensation of polar (e.g., HCN, CH3CN, and HC3N) and highly unsaturated (e.g., C2H2, C4H2, and C2N2) neutrals at comparatively high altitude, leading to precipitation of Mg-doped tholin-like material. The implications for Titan's prebiotic chemical evolution, of the surface deposition of such material (which may feasibly contain magnesium porphyrins, or other bioactive Mg-containing complexes) remain to be assessed.  相似文献

Using the 20-m Onsala Observatory telescope (Sweden), we performed observations of the CH3C2H(6-5) line toward several regions of massive star formation to estimate the kinetic temperature of the gas and study its variations over the sources. Intense lines were detected in five objects. For these, we estimated the kinetic temperature of the gas near the CS and N2H+ molecular emission peaks by the method of population diagrams. A significant temperature difference between these peaks is noticeable only in W3 and, to a lesser degree, in DR 21. In the remaining cases, it is insignificant. This indicates that the chemical differentiation of the molecules in these regions cannot be associated with temperature variations. The kinetic temperature determined from methyl acetylene observations is usually slightly higher than the temperature estimated from ammonia observations. This is probably because the methyl acetylene emission originates in denser, i.e., deeper and hotter layers of the cloud.  相似文献

Jupiter exhibits bright H+3 auroral arcs at 3-4 microns that cool the hot (>1000 K) ionosphere above the ∼10−7 bar level through the infrared bands of this trace constituent. Below the 10−7 bar level significant cooling proceeds through infrared active bands of CH4, C2H2, and C2H6. We report the discovery of 3-micron line emission from these hydrocarbon species in spectra of the jovian south polar region obtained on April 18 and 20, 2006 (UT) with CGS4 on the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope. Estimated cooling rates through these molecules are 7.5×10−3, 1.4×10−3, and , respectively, for a total nearly half that of H+3. We derive a temperature of 450 ± 50 K in the 10−7-10−5 bar region from the C2H2 lines.  相似文献

Fabry-Pérot interferograms of comet Hale-Bopp were obtained on several nights in March and April 1997. For this purpose we utilized the 2-channel focal reducer of the Max-Planck-Institute for Aeronomy at the 2-m telescope of the Pik Terskol Observatory. Solid Fabry-Pérot etalons of resolving power 30000 were used in both channels of the focal reducer. The main aim of this study is to measure the velocities and abundances of OH+ and H2O+, both ions closely related to the same parent molecule, H2O. In the blue channel interferograms we identified several individual OH+ rotational lines of the A3Πi - X3Σ (0-0) transition and measured their Doppler shifts. The target emissions in the red channel were the H2O+ lines of the A2A1 − X2B1 (10-0) band. We found that the line of sight velocities, obtained from the Doppler shifted wavelengths of emissions in the comet are higher in sunward direction than in the plasma tail and do not exceed 20 km s–1. The corresponding values, deprojected in antisolar direction, are consistent with predictions by magnetohydrodynamical models of the solar-wind-comet interaction, when one accounts for the extremely high gas production rate of comet Hale-Bopp. This revised version was published online in July 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献

Infrared spectra of Jupiter's atmosphere were obtained with the infrared spectrometer (IRS) on the 1.5-m telescope at the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO) during the first 2 days of the impacts of the fragments of Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 (1993e). We monitored 3.51 ± 0.17 μm radiation from the impact areas, undisturbed areas, and auroral regions of Jupiter after the A and E impacts. The strong emission of a portion of the P-branch of the ν3band of CH4was detected on the A impact area 4 hr after the impact. H+3emissions are found to be decreased at the A and E impact sites after 4 hr and 10 hr 50 min of the impacts, respectively, compared with undisturbed areas at the same latitude. The temperatures of the southern H+3aurora were normal within the first several hours following the A and E impacts.  相似文献

In order to understand the cometary plasma environment it is important to track the closely linked chemical reactions that dominate ion evolution. We used a coupled MHD ion-chemistry model to analyze previously unpublished Giotto High Intensity Ion Mass Spectrometer (HIS-IMS) data. In this way we study the major species, but we also try to match some minor species like the CHx and the NHx groups. Crucial for this match is the model used for the electrons since they are important for ion-electron recombination. To further improve our results we included an enhanced density of supersonic electrons in the ion pile-up region which increases the local electron impact ionization. In this paper we discuss the results for the following important ions: C+, CH+, CH+2, CH+3, N+, NH+, NH+2, NH+3, NH+4, O+, OH+, H2O+, H3O+, CO+, HCO+, H3CO+, and CH3OH+2. We also address the inner shock which is very distinctive in our MHD model as well as in the IMS data. It is located just inside the contact surface at approximately 4550 km. Comparisons of the ion bulk flow directions and velocities from our MHD model with the data measured by the HIS-IMS give indication for a solar wind magnetic field direction different from the standard Parker angle at Halley's position. Our ion-chemical network model results are in a good agreement with the experimental data. In order to achieve the presented results we included an additional short lived inner source for the C+, CH+, and CH+2 ions. Furthermore we performed our simulations with two different production rates to better match the measurements which is an indication for a change and/or an asymmetric pattern (e.g. jets) in the production rate during Giotto's fly-by at Halley's comet.  相似文献

We present the analysis of the photometric and spectroscopic data obtained for comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin) when it was at a distance of 2.92 AU from the Sun. The observations were made at the prime focus of the 6-m BTA telescope with the SCORPIO focal reducer. The magnitude of the comet, measured in the R c -band with an 9?? aperture radius amounted to 16?8 ± 0?1. The computed dust production rate was estimated to be about 6 kg/s. The cometary coma manifested the emissions in the (0?C0) band of the CN molecule violet system, and a number of emission band heads of the C3 molecule. The gas production rate of the molecules is determined using the Haser model and amounts to 1.41 × 1024 and 4.20 × 1023 molecules per second for CN and C3, respectively. The ratio of gas production rates log[Q(C3)/Q(CN)] is equal to ?0.85, which is close to the mean value, determined for a significant number of comets. A normalized gradient of the cometary dust reflectivity, calculated for the 4430?C6840 ? spectral range amounts to 14.3 ± 1.2%.  相似文献

One-dimensional radial models of the chemistry in cometary comae have been constructed for heliocentric distances ranging from 2 to 0.125 AU. The coma's opacity to solar radiation is included and photolytic reaction rates are calculated. A parent volatile mixture similar to that found in interstellar molecular clouds is assumed. Profiles through the coma of number density and column density are presented for H2O, OH, O, CN, C2, C3, CH, and NH2. Whole-coma abundances are presented for NH2, CH, C2, C3, CN, OH, CO+, H2O+, CH+, N2+, and CO2+.  相似文献

A sample of cataclysmic variables (CVs) detected among the X-ray sources of the 400 square degree (400d) survey performed based on ROSAT pointings is presented. A technique for selecting CVs among the X-ray sources using additional optical and infrared data, based on Sloan Digital Sky Survey andWISE data, is described. We present the optical observations of the selected objects carried out mainly with the Russian–Turkish 1.5-m telescope (RTT-150) and the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences (BTA). Some observations have also been performed with the 1.6-m AZT-33IK telescope of the Institute of Solar–Terrestrial Physics, the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Eight CVs, four of which were detected in our work, have been selected by now. Based on this sample, we have obtained preliminary constraints on the X-ray luminosity function of CVs in the solar neighborhood in the range of low luminosities, L X ~ 1029–1030 erg s?1 (0.5–2 keV). The logarithmic slope of the CV luminosity function in this luminosity range is shown to become gentler than that at L X > 1031 erg s?1. It follows from our estimates of the CV luminosity function that several thousand CVs will be detected in the SRG all-sky survey at high Galactic latitudes, which will allow much more accurate measurements of their X-ray luminosity function to be obtained.  相似文献

We have performed high-resolution spectral observations at mid-infrared wavelengths of C2H6 (12.16 μm), and C2H2 (13.45 μm) on Saturn. These emission features probe the stratosphere of the planet and provide information on the hydrocarbon photochemical processes taking place in that region of the atmosphere. The observations were performed using our cryogenic echelle spectrometer Celeste, in conjunction with the McMath-Pierce 1.5-m solar telescope in November and December 1994. We used Voyager IRIS CH4 observations (7.67 μm) to derive a temperature profile on the saturnian atmosphere for the region of the stratosphere. This profile was then used in conjunction with height-dependent volume mixing ratios of each hydrocarbon to determine global abundances for ethane and acetylene. Our ground-based measurements indicate abundances of for C2H6 (1.0 mbar pressure level), and for C2H2 (1.6 mbar pressure level). We also derived new mixing ratios from the Voyager mid-latitude IRIS observations; 8.6±0.9×10−6 for C2H6 (0.1-3.0 mbar pressure level), and 1.6±0.2×10−7 for C2H2 (2.0 mbar pressure level).  相似文献

We describe the design of a suspended low- and medium-resolution spectrograph (R ≈ 300–1300) designed and made at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences for the 1.6-m AZT-33IK telescope of Sayan Observatory of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. We report the results of laboratory measurements of the parameters of the instrument and tests performed on the 1-m Zeiss-1000 telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. We measured the total quantum efficiency of the “spectrograph + telescope + detector” system on AZT-33IK telescope, which at its maximum reaches 56%. Such a hight transparency of the spectrograph allows it to be used with the 1.6-m telescope to determine the types and redshifts of objects with integrated magnitudes mAB ≈ 20–21, and this result was confirmed by actual observations.  相似文献

We present an analysis of the results of photometric investigations of two distant comets, C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) and 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann-1, obtained with the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The comets under study demonstrate sufficient activity out of the zone of water ice sublimation (at heliocentric distances longer than 5 AU). In the spectra of the investigated comets, we found the CO+ and N2+ emission. The presence of this emission may say that the comets were formed in the outer parts of the Solar System, in a protoplanetary cloud at a temperature ≤25 K. We found that the photometric maximum of the ionosphere (in the CO+ filter) of the comet C/2002 VQ94 (LINEAR) is shifted relative to the photometric center of the dust coma by 1.4″ (7.44 × 103 km) in the direction deflected by 63° from the direction to the Sun. Using special filters to process the images, we picked out active structures (jets) in the dust coma of the 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann-1 comet.  相似文献

We present near-IR (2.2-2.4 μm) reflectance and transmittance spectra of frozen (16 and 77 K) methanol (CH3OH) and water-methanol (1:1) mixtures before and after irradiation with 30 keV He+ and 200 keV H+ ions. Spectra of other simple hydrocarbons (CH4, C2H2, C2H4, C2H6) and CO have also been obtained both to help in the identification of the new molecules formed after ion irradiation of methanol-rich ices, and to get insight into the question of the presence of simple frozen hydrocarbons on the surface of some objects in the outer Solar System. The results confirm what obtained by studies performed in different spectral ranges, namely the ion-induced formation of CO and CH4, and, for the first time, evidence a strong decrease of the intensity of the methanol band at about 2.34 μm in comparison with that at 2.27 μm. The results are discussed in view of their relevance for icy objects in the Solar System (namely comets, Centaurs, and Kuiper belt objects) where CH3OH has been observed or suggested to be present.  相似文献

In 2013–2015 the Laboratory of spectroscopy and photometry of extragalactic objects (LS-PEO) of the Special Astrophysical Observatory together with Armenian specialists upgraded the 1-m Schmidt telescope of the Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia. We completely redesigned the control system of the telescope: we replaced the actuating mechanisms, developed telescope control software, and made the guiding system. We reworked and prepared a 4k × 4k Apogee (USA) liquid-cooled CCD with RON ~ 11.1 e?, a pixel size of 0.″868, and field of view of about 1□°, and in October 2015 mounted it in the focus of the telescope. The detector is equipped with a turret bearing 20 intermediate-band filters (FWHM = 250 Å) uniformly covering the 4000–9000 Å wavelength range, five broadband filters (u, g, r, i, z SDSS), and three narrow-band filters (5000 Å, 6560 Å and 6760 Å, FWHM = 100 Å). During the first year of test operation of the 1-m telescope we performed pilot observations within the framework of three programs: search for young stellar objects, AGNevolution, and stellar composition of galaxy disks. We confirmed the possibility of efficiently selecting of young objects using observations performed in narrow-band Hα and [SII] filters and the intermediate-band 7500 Å filter. Three-hours long exposures with SDSS g-, r-, and i-band filters allow us to reach the surface brightness level of 28m/□″ when investigating the stellar content of galaxy disks for a sample of nine galaxies. We used observations performed with the 1-m telescope in five broadband (SDSS u, g, r, i, and z) and 15 intermediate-band filters (4000–7500 Å) to construct a sample of quasar candidates with 0.5 < z < 5 (330 objects) in about one-sq. degree SA68 field complete down to RAB = 23m. Spectroscopic observations of 29 objects (19.m5 < R < 22m) carried out at the 6-m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences confirmed the quasar nature of 28 objects.  相似文献
