We present the analysis of the photometric and spectroscopic data obtained for comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin) when it was at a distance of 2.92 AU from the Sun. The observations were made at the prime focus of the 6-m BTA telescope with the SCORPIO focal reducer. The magnitude of the comet, measured in the R c -band with an 9?? aperture radius amounted to 16?8 ± 0?1. The computed dust production rate was estimated to be about 6 kg/s. The cometary coma manifested the emissions in the (0?C0) band of the CN molecule violet system, and a number of emission band heads of the C3 molecule. The gas production rate of the molecules is determined using the Haser model and amounts to 1.41 × 1024 and 4.20 × 1023 molecules per second for CN and C3, respectively. The ratio of gas production rates log[Q(C3)/Q(CN)] is equal to ?0.85, which is close to the mean value, determined for a significant number of comets. A normalized gradient of the cometary dust reflectivity, calculated for the 4430?C6840 ? spectral range amounts to 14.3 ± 1.2%.  相似文献

Dirty ice of a second kind (major components, H2O, CO, and N2; minor components less than several percents, NH3, CH4, and other organic substances such as HCN, CH3CN etc.) is assumed for the composition of volatiles in the cometary nucleus. The consistency with the observations of molecular ions and daughter molecules in the cometary atmosphere is argued by taking into account various ion-molecular reactions and dissociative recombinations. There is a satisfactory agreement for the second kind of dirty-ice model, but the presence of large amounts of CH4 and NH3 is found to be rather in contradiction with observational evidence. A velocity of 8 km s?1 for the hydrogen atoms, derived from analysis of the hydrogen Lyman-alpha corona around comets, is found from the dissociative recombination of H3O+, the dominant constituent of cometary ionosphere, in accordance with H3O++e ?→OH+H+H.  相似文献

The origin of CN radicals in comets is not completely understood so far. We present a study of CN and HCN production rates and CN Haser scale lengths showing that: (1) at heliocentric distances larger than 3 AU, CN radicals could be entirely produced by HCN photolysis; (2) closer to the Sun, for a fraction of comets CN production rates are higher than HCN ones whereas (3) in the others, CN distribution cannot be explained by the HCN photolysis although CN and HCN production rates seem to be similar. Thus, when the comets are closer than 3 AU to the Sun, an additional process to the HCN photolysis seems to be required to explain the CN density in some comets. The photolysis of HC3N or C2N2 could explain the CN origin. But the HC3N production rate is probably too low to reproduce CN density profile, even if uncertainties on its photolysis leave the place for all possible conclusions. The presence of C2N2 in comets is a reliable hypothesis to explain the CN origin; thus, its detection is a challenging issue. Since C2N2 is very difficult to detect from ground-based observations, only in situ measurements or space observations could determine the contribution of this compound in the CN origin.Another hypothesis is a direct production of CN radicals by the photo- or thermal degradation of complex refractory organic compounds present on cometary grains. This process could explain the spatial profile of CN inside jets and the discrepancy noted in the isotopic ratio 14N/15N between CN and HCN. Laboratory studies of the thermal and UV-induced degradation of solid nitrogenated compounds are required to model and validate this hypothesis.  相似文献

Chemical reactions and volatile supply through hypervelocity impacts may have played a key role for the origin and evolution of both planetary and satellite atmospheres. In this study, we evaluate the role of impact-induced N2 production from reduced nitrogen-bearing solids proposed to be contained in Titan’s crust, ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4), for the replenishment of N2 to the atmosphere in Titan’s history. To investigate the conversion of (NH4)2SO4 into N2 by hypervelocity impacts, we measured gases released from (NH4)2SO4 that was exposed to hypervelocity impacts created by a laser gun. The sensitivity and accuracy of the measurements were enhanced by using an isotope labeling technique for the target. We obtained the efficiency of N2 production from (NH4)2SO4 as a function of peak shock pressure ranging from ∼8 to ∼45 GPa. Our results indicate that the initial and complete shock pressures for N2 degassing from (NH4)2SO4 are ∼10 and ∼25 GPa, respectively. These results suggest that cometary impacts on Titan (i.e., impact velocity vi > ∼8 km/s) produce N2 efficiently; whereas satellitesimal impacts during the accretion (i.e., vi < 4 km/s) produce N2 only inefficiently. Even when using the proposed small amount of (NH4)2SO4 content in the crust (∼4 wt.%) (Fortes, A.D. et al., 2007. Icarus 188, 139-153), the total amount of N2 provided through cometary impacts over 4.5 Ga reaches ∼2-6 times the present atmospheric N2 (i.e., ∼7 × 1020-2 × 1021 [mol]) based on the measured production efficiency and results of a hydrodynamic simulation of cometary impacts onto Titan. This implies that cometary impacts onto Titan’s crust have the potential to account for a large part of the present N2 through the atmospheric replenishment after the accretion.  相似文献

We have carried out an analysis of the (0, 0) vibrational band of the CN molecule in Comet Mrkos 1957d, including the effect of collisions. We found that the sum of the squares of the residuals can be reduced by a factor of ten, if collisions account for 46±3% of the population of the lower level. A rotational temperature can be assigned to the cometary gas. The best value found was 410±40 K. The best fit for the constantR 1 was (1.07±0.10)×10–4. The velocity of the comet was left as a free parameter. We found for it a value of 34.38±0.10 km s–1. This result is in disagreement with the nuclear orbital velocity of 34.74 km s–1. The discrepancy can be explained, if the CN molecules are ejected from the cometary nucleus preferentially in the sunward direction, with a mean velocity that corresponds to the above temperature.  相似文献

A model for the aggregation of size distribution of cometesimals (Gaussian or power law) into cometary nuclei is developed. Upon disruption induced by collisions, sticking and evolution of the tensile strength and density of the cometesimals by sintering processes are taken into account. The resulting cometary nuclei present specific internal structures that have been quantified to allow the comparison with observational constraints and future in situ observations and cometary nucleus sounding with the CONSERT radar on-board the Rosetta mission. A parameter called the homogeneity exponent, μ, determines different aggregation regimes. Fractal aggregates are formed for μ < 0.4. Radial variations in tensile strength appear for 0.4 < μ < 0.6 and vanish for larger values of μ. The initial size distribution (following a Gaussian or power law) of aggregating cometesimals does not influence strongly these values but can change the extent of corresponding layers. If the layering observed on the surface of some cometary nuclei occurs often and originates from primordial structures, this constrains the velocity distribution of aggregating bodies to follow vm-0.25, while a differential size distribution following a power law with exponent between −2 and −3 should result for large bodies, in agreement with current estimations of the size distributions. Such a layered structure would lead to more cohesive, dense and less porous material located near the center of mass of the nucleus predicting an increase of bulk density of comet nuclei with their erosion state.  相似文献

Detections and upper limits to the continuum emission (1 ≤ λ ≤6 cm) and spectral line emission (OH, CO, CS, HCN, HCO+, CN, CH3CN, CH3C2H, NH3, H2O, HC3N, CH3CH2CN) are reported from radio observations of Comets 1983d and 1983e. Comparison is made with observations of CN at optical wavelengths. These results may be useful in planning future cometary observations.  相似文献

We demonstrate, using a sample of high quality spectra, that the average equivalent width ratio of the unsaturated R(0) and R(1) lines of the CN B2Σ+ – X2Σ+ (0, 0) band near 3875 Å equals π instead of 3.73 – calculated for the CMBR temperature T = 2.725 K and the already published oscillator strengths of both transitions, i.e. the excitation temperature of CN is slightly higher than it should be expected if CMBR is the only excitation mechanism. Taking into account the saturation effects by means of profile fitting during the column density calculations does not remove the revealed temperature excess. Possible interpretations of the effect are discussed (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)  相似文献

One-dimensional radial models of the chemistry in cometary comae have been constructed for heliocentric distances ranging from 2 to 0.125 AU. The coma's opacity to solar radiation is included and photolytic reaction rates are calculated. A parent volatile mixture similar to that found in interstellar molecular clouds is assumed. Profiles through the coma of number density and column density are presented for H2O, OH, O, CN, C2, C3, CH, and NH2. Whole-coma abundances are presented for NH2, CH, C2, C3, CN, OH, CO+, H2O+, CH+, N2+, and CO2+.  相似文献

This paper considers the evolution of a flat svarm of cometary bodies (under the effect of the passage of stars), initially moving in one direction along the circular orbits with radii 1.4×104<r<2×104 AU and along elliptic orbits with semi-major axes 5×103<a<1×104 AU and with perihelia within 50<q<100 AU. Numerical simulation shows that the original flat belt of comets is thermalizing. Its root-mean-squarez-coordinate grows withr. A cometary cloud forms with a dense flattened inner core and a rarefied halo (the Oort cloud proper). The value =N core/N halo varies within a wide range (up to the order of magnitude) depending on the model used (N core andN halo are the numbers of comets in the core and the halo, respectively). The hypothesis of a massive Oort cloud (Marochniket al., 1988) implies that the Oort cloud should have a large angular momentum. This paper employs numerical simulation to calculate Oort cloud models to which the initially flat located at the periphery of the solar nebula rotating cometary swarms is evolving in time. The loss of the initial angular momentum over the time of the Oort cloud evolution is not large.  相似文献

We report the Balmer broad absorption lines (BALs) in the quasar SDSS J2220 + 0109 discovered from the SDSS data, and present a detailed analysis of the peculiar absorption line spectrum, including the He I* multiplet at λλ3189, 3889 arising from the metastable 23s-state helium and the Balmer Hα and Hβ lines from the excited hydrogen H I of n = 2 level, which are rarely seen in quasar spectra, as well as many absorption lines arising from the excited Fe II* of the levels 7 955 cm−1, 13 474 cm−1 and 13 673 cm−1 in the wavelength range 3100∼3300 Å. Ca II H, K absorption line doublets also clearly appear in the SDSS spectrum. All absorption lines show a similar blueshifted velocity structure of Δv ≈ − 1500 ∼ 0 km·s−1 relative to the quasar's systematic redshift determined from the emission lines. Detailed analysis suggests that the Balmer absorption lines should arise from the partially ionized region with a column density of NHI ≈ 1021 cm−2 for an electron density of ne ∼ 106 cm−3; and that the hydrogen n = 2 level may be populated via collisional excitation with Lyα pumping.  相似文献

Having analyzed the spectrum of the quasar PKS 1232+0.82 taken by Petitjean et al. (2000), we identified HD molecular lines in an absorption system at redshift z=2.3377. We estimated the column density of HD molecules in this system, N(HD) = (1?4) × 1014cm?2. The excitation temperature of the first rotational level J=1 relative to the ground state J=0 is T ex=70 ± 7 K. As far as we know, this is the first detection of HD molecules at high redshift.  相似文献

Axisymmetric models of the outgassing of a cometary nucleus have been constructed. Such models can be used to describe a nucleus with a single active region. The models may include a solar zenith angle dependence of the outgassing. They retrieve the outgassing flux at distances from the nucleus where collisions between molecules are unimportant, as function of the angle with respect to the outgassing axis. The observed emissions must be optically thin. Furthermore the models assume that the outflow speed at large distance from the nucleus does not depend on direction. The value of the outflow speed is retrieved. The models are applied to CN images and HCN spectra of Comet 2P/Encke, obtained nearly simultaneously in November 2003 with the 2 m optical telescope on Mount Rozhen, Bulgaria, and with the 10 m Heinrich Hertz Submillimeter Telescope on Mount Graham, Arizona, USA. According to Sekanina (1988), Astron. J. 95, 911-924, at that time a single outgassing source was active. Input parameters to the models like the rotation period of the nucleus and a small correction to Sekanina’s rotation axis are determined from a simpler jet position angle model. The rotation is prograde with a sideric period of 11.056 ± 0.024 h, in agreement with literature values. The best fit model has an outflow speed of 0.95 ± 0.04 km s−1. The same value has been derived from the corkscrew appearing in the CN images. The location of the outgassing axis is at colatitude δa = 7.4° ± 2.9° and longitude λa = 235° ± 17° (a definition of zero longitude is provided). Comet Encke’s outgassing corresponds approximately to the longitudinally averaged solar input on a spherical nucleus (i.e. very likely comes from deeper layers) but with some deficiency of outgassing at mid-latitudes and non-zero outgassing from the dark polar cap. The presence of gas flow from the dark polar cap is explained as evidence of gas flow across the terminator. The models rely mostly on the CN images. The HCN spectra are more noisy. They provide information how to determine the best fit outflow velocity and the sense of rotation. The model HCN spectra are distinctly non-Gaussian. Within error limits they are consistent with the observations. Models based solely on the HCN spectra are also presented but, because of the lower quality of the data and the unfavorable observing geometry, yield inferior results. As a by-product we determine the CN parent life time from our CN observations. The solar EUV and Lyα radiation field at the time of our observations is taken into account.  相似文献

We present the results of the preliminary study of the comet Hale-Bopp spectrum obtained April 17, 1997 by K. Churyumov and F. Mussayev with the help of the 1-meter Zeiss reflector and the echelle spectrometer (spectral resolutionλ/Δ λ ≈ 50000), CCD and the long slit, oriented along the radius-vector(“Sun-comet direction”). Energy distributions for three selected regions including the C3, C2 (0-0) and CN(Δ ν = 0) molecules emissions of the comet Hale-Bopp spectrum were built. The rotational lines of the CN(Δ ν = 0) band were identified. The nature of the high emission peak near λ 4020 Å in the C3 band is discussed. The presence of the cometary continuum of the nonsolar origin is assumed.  相似文献

Using LTE calculations of the structure of T Tauri stellar atmospheres heated by radiation from an accretion shock (Dodin and Lamzin 2012), we have calculated the spectrum of the hot spot emerging on the stellar surface by taking into account non-LTE effects for He I, He II, Ca I, and Ca II. Assuming the pre-shock gas density N 0 and velocity V 0 to be the same at all points of the accretion stream cross section, we have calculated the spectrum of the star+circular spot system at various N 0, V 0, and parameters characterizing the star and the spot. Using nine stars as an example, we show that the theoretical optical spectra reproduce well the observed veiling of photospheric absorption lines as well as the profiles and intensities of the so-called narrow components of He II and Ca I emission lines with an appropriate choice of parameters. The accreted gas density in all of the investigated stars except DK Tau has been found to be N 0 > 1012 cm?3. We have managed to choose the parameters for eight stars at a calcium abundance in the accreted gas ξ Ca equal to the solar one, but we have been able to achieve agreement between the calculations and observations for TW Hya only by assuming ξ Ca to be approximately a factor of 3 lower than the solar one. The estimated parameters do not depend on interstellar extinction, because they have been determined from the spectra normalized to the continuum level. The calculated intensity of Ca II lines has turned out to be lower than the observed one, but this contradiction can be eliminated by assuming that, in addition to the accreted gas with a high density N 0, a more rarefied gas also falls onto the star. The theoretical equivalent widths and relative intensities of the subordinate He I lines disagree significantly with the observations. This is apparently because non-LTE effects should be taken into account when calculating the structure of the upper layers of the hot spot, the accuracy of the cross sections for collisional processes from upper levels is insufficient, and the spot inhomogeneity should probably be taken into account.  相似文献

We obtained spectra of comet C/1999 S4 (LINEAR) with the UAGS spectrograph(long slit and CCD) installed on the 1-m Zeiss reflector of the SAO of the RAS(Northern Caucuses, Nizhny Arkhyz) on July 23/24, 26/27 and 27/28, 2000. OnJuly 22/23, before the splitting of the cometary nucleus, several emission lines, such as C2, C3, CN, NH, CH, NH2, CO+, H2O+ wereclearly identified in the spectra. The inspections of the CCD spectra obtainedon July 27/28, 2000 reveals only very weak emission lines superimposed on thesolar reflection spectrum. From analyzing the surface brightness profile of C2 along the slit the velocity of separation of two secondary fragments (V = 10 km/h) and the energy of the fragment separation (E = 8.7 × 1015 erg) were estimated. A luminescence cometary continuum of 26% of the total continuum level is detected in the spectra of the comet at 5000 Å. Possible mechanisms of nucleus splitting are discussed.  相似文献

The ultraviolet spectra of the star RU Lup obtained with the Hubble Space Telescope are analyzed. Emission lines are identified. The presence of absorption components with a nearly zero residual intensity in the Mg II resonance doublet lines is indicative of mass outflow with a velocity V ?300 km s?1. These lines also exhibit a broad (?1400 km s?1 at the base) component originating in the star itself. The profiles of the (optically thin) Si II] and Si III]1892 Å lines for the first time unequivocally prove that these lines originate in an accretion shock wave rather than in the chromosphere, with the gas infall velocity being V 0?400 km s?1. The intensity ratio of the C IV 1550 Å and Si IV 1400 Å resonance doublet components was found to be close to unity, suggesting a high accreted-gas density, logN 0>12.5. Molecular H2 Lyman lines formed in the stellar wind were detected. The H I Lα luminosity of RU Lup was found from their intensities to exceed 10% of L bol. Radiation pressure in the Lα line on atomic hydrogen may play a significant role in the initial acceleration of stellar-wind matter, but the effect of Lα emission on the dynamics of molecular gas is negligible.  相似文献

We report on the detection of atomic oxygen lines in the spectra of 8 comets. These forbidden lines are a result of the photodissociation of the parent oxygen-bearing species directly into an excited state. We used high resolution spectra obtained at the McDonald Observatory 2.7 m telescope to resolve the cometary oxygen lines from the telluric oxygen lines and from other cometary emissions. We find that the relative intensities of the two red lines (6300.304 and 6363.776 Å) are consistent with theory. The green line (5577.339 Å) has an intensity which is about 10% of the sum of the intensities of the two red lines. We show that collisional quenching may be important in the inner coma. If we assume the relative excitation rates of potential parents which have appeared in the literature, then H2O would be the parent of the cometary green oxygen line. However, those rates have been questioned. We measured the width of the three oxygen lines and find that the green line is wider than either of the two red lines. The finding of a wider line could imply a different parent for the green and red lines. However, the constancy of the green to red line flux ratio suggests the parent is the same for these lines but that the exciting photons have different energies.  相似文献

Based on our high-spectral-resolution observations performed with the NES echelle spectrograph of the 6-m telescope, we have studied the peculiarities of the spectrum and the velocity field in the atmosphere and envelope of the cool supergiant V1027 Cyg, the optical counterpart of the infrared source IRAS 20004+2955. A splitting of the cores of strong absorptions of metals and their ions (Si II, Ni I, Ti I, Ti II, Sc II, Cr I, Fe I, Fe II, BaII) has been detected in the stellar spectrum for the first time. The broad profile of these lines contains a stable weak emission in the core whose position may be considered as the systematic velocity V sys = 5.5 km s?1. Small radial velocity variations with an amplitude of 5–6 km s?1 due to pulsations have been revealed by symmetric low- and moderate-intensity absorptions. A long-wavelength shift of the Hα profile due to line core distortion is observed in the stellar spectrum. Numerous weak CN molecular lines and the KI 7696 Å line with a P Cyg profile have been identified in the red spectral region. The coincidence of the radial velocities measured from symmetric metal absorptions and CN lines suggests that the CN spectrum is formed in the stellar atmosphere. We have identified numerous diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs) whose positions in the spectrum, V r (DIBs) = ?12.0 km s?1, correspond to the velocity of the interstellar medium in the Local Arm of the Galaxy.  相似文献

We present a survey of 97 spectra of mainly sporadic meteors in the magnitude range +3 to −1, corresponding to meteoroid sizes 1-10 mm. For the majority of the meteors, heliocentric orbits are known as well. We classified the spectra according to relative intensities of the lines of Mg, Na, and Fe. Theoretical intensities of these lines for a chondritic composition of the meteoroid and a wide range of excitation and ionization conditions were computed. We found that only a minority of the meteoroids show chondritic composition. Three distinct populations of Na-free meteoroids, each comprising ∼10% of sporadic meteoroids in the studied size range, were identified. The first population are meteoroids on asteroidal orbits containing only Fe lines in their spectra and possibly related to iron-nickel meteorites. The second population are meteoroids on orbits with small perihelia (q?0.2 AU), where Na was lost by thermal desorption. The third population of Na-free meteoroids resides on Halley type cometary orbits. This material was possibly formed by irradiation of cometary surfaces by cosmic rays in the Oort cloud. The composition of meteoroids on Halley type orbits is diverse, probably reflecting internal inhomogeneity of comets. On average, cometary dust has lower than chondritic Fe/Mg ratio. Surprisingly, iron meteoroids prevail among millimeter-sized meteoroids on typical Apollo-asteroid orbits. We have also found varying content of Na in the members of the Geminid meteoroid stream, suggesting that Geminid meteoroids were not released from their parent body at the same time.  相似文献
