Measurements of intensities at two fixed wavelengths in the OH (7-2) band were carried out at Mt Abu (24.6° N, 76.7° E) from 1973–76 to estimate neutral temperature in the region of 80–90 km altitude. It was observed that on some nights the temperature in this region shows periodic oscillations throughout the night. It was found from statistical analysis that the periods of these fluctuations are comparable to the theoretically predicted periods of internal gravity waves. If the periodic temperature variations observed in this region are attributed to the influence of gravity waves, according to the Hines theory only the magnitude of the horizontal component of wave-induced wind velocity can be computed. Using the measured relative temperature fluctuations it is found that the magnitude is 15–30 m/sec.  相似文献

Variations in a solar activity and their effect if any on the temperature of the stratopause are studied. Monthly mean stratopause temperatures during 1969–1976 and departures from the monthly mean value of eight-year period, determined for four equatorial rocket launching stations,viz. Ascension Island, Kwajalem, Fort Sherman and Thumba, are statistically compared with sunspot number departures. To study the effects of seasonal variation on stratopause temperature, the data have been divided into winter, summer and equinoctial periods. Seasonwise study indicates that the correlation between the stratopause temperature and sunspot number is positive and just below the significant level for Thumba and positive and highly significant over all the other stations with a better relationship in equinoctial periods than in both winter and summer. The estimated regression coefficients are positive and significant.  相似文献

A rocket-borne solar middle ultraviolet photometer has been developed at the Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad for the measurement of ozone concentrations at stratospheric and mesospheric heights. The instrument has now been flown successfully several times from thumba and ozone concentrations determined over an altitude range of 15 to 80 km. This paper describes the instrumentation, data analysis technique as well as the laboratory calibration procedures. Also presented are the results from four successful rocket experiments conducted during equinoctial months under an Indo-USSR collaborative programme for strato-mesospheric studies. The results show that at Thumba peak ozone concentrations vary between 2·2 and 3·1×1012 molecules per cc and the peak altitude varies from 25 to 29 km from flight to flight. In the altitude region above about 40 km the ozone concentrations over Thumba are lower than the standard mid-latitude model values, by a factor lying between 1·5 and 2·5.  相似文献

The chemical compositions of magnetite-orthopyroxene symplectites (MOS) and rock-forming minerals—olivine (Ol), clinopyroxene (Cpx), and magnetite(Mt)—have been studied in 20 samples of olivine-bearing rocks in the Urals, including troctolite, olivine gabbro, and gabbronorite. MOS are orthopyroxene (Opx) monocrystals up to 500 μm in size containing myrmekite-like magnetite intergrowths up to 20–30 μm in width. According to the microprobe examination, the dark-colored minerals are characterized by a high Fe mole fraction F = Fe/(Fe + Mg) = 0.20–0.50, whereas F = 0.33–0.65 is typical of the bulk rock compositions. The plagioclase varies in composition from An90 to An50. No significant compositional difference has been established between the MOS and rock-forming minerals. The F opx and F Ol are closely correlated (linear trend, r = 0.97); F Ol/F Opx is ~1.2. Similarly, a positive correlation between F Opx and F Cpx is noted (linear trend, r = 0.90); F Opx/F Cpx is ~1.2. The crystallization temperature of the Ol-Opx-Cpx assemblage is roughly estimated at 700–800°C. A high positive correlation (r = 0.95) is established between the TiO2 contents in the magnetites from the MOS (Mt1) and host rock (Mt2). The Mt1/Mt2 ratio reaches ~0.8, implying that Mt1 contains somewhat less TiO2 than Mt2. Hence, the rock-forming and MOS minerals make up an equilibrium assemblage. As follows from the structural pattern, symplectites were formed as products of the reaction between olivine and oxygen in the solid state with the entire volume of the rock involved in the oxidation; i.e., the distance of the diffusion was significant. Free oxygen appeared as a product of the dissociation of the water penetrating into the hot gabbro and ultramafic rocks at the initial stage of the tectonic extension and high-temperature hydration. According to the redox state of dunite coexisting with gabbro, the oxygen fugacity is estimated at +2.7 log units of fO2 relative to the QFM buffer. The structure and products of the olivine oxidation were eventually obliterated in the course of the hydration.  相似文献

In this paper, the results of a series of extensive measurements of multifrequency radio wave absorption in theD-region of the ionosphere during the epoch of the minium period of the solar cycle are presented. Experimental results for Udaipur, a low latitude station (24°35′N) are compared with the theoretically expected results. It is found that the experimental values of frequency indexm and cos χ indexn agree well with those obtained theoretically. The mean values ofm andn for the whole period of observation are found to be 1·76 and 1·4 respectively. The seasonal variation of the values ofm andn is also discussed.  相似文献

Electrical conductivity structure of the Earth’s deep interior has been successfully mapped out down to approximately 1500 km around the geomagnetic dip equatorial regions of Africa using solar quiet-day ionospheric currents. Spherical harmonic analysis (SHA) was employed in separating the internal and external field contributions to the solar quiet variations. Transfer function was used for each of the external and internal pairs to compute the conductivity-depth profile for the region. Calculated average electrical conductivity values were evidently higher than obtained in other parts of the world farther away from the geomagnetic equator. Sq current vortex foci are observed very close to the geomagnetic equator. Depth of penetration was greatly enhanced. Stations on latitudes less than 1° from the geomagnetic equator show higher electrical conductivity when compared with that situated more than 4° away from it at various corresponding depths. Evidence of discontinuities in the earth layers were also noted at some depths. Highly conductive layers were delineated around 400 km depth and beyond 1200 km.  相似文献

The Shaw L-group chondrite differs from orthodox type 6 ordinary chondrites in ways which suggest that it experienced unusually high metamorphic temperatures and anatexis. Electron microprobe and single crystal X-ray diffraction data indicate that Shaw contains three pyroxenes: the augite (Fs11.3Wo38.2) and calcic orthopyroxene (Fs19.4WO4·5) reported by other workers and a second, Ca- and Al-poor orthopyroxene (Fs16·8Wo1·2) which we interpret as inverted protobronzite. Comparison of the Shaw assemblage with experimental data suggests that a two-phase (augite-protobronzite) assemblage developed at peak metamorphic temperatures of ~1250–1300°C, that partial reaction of augite and protobronzite produced calcic orthopyroxene and by-product spinel at temperatures approximately 150°C lower and that protobronzite inverted to bronzite free of stacking disorder during subsequent slow cooling. The intracrystalline distribution of Fe and Mg in the Ca-poor bronzite (KE + 0·07; determined by crystal structure analysis) indicates an equilibration temperature of ~500°C.Shaw differs sufficiently in texture and mineralogy from type 6 ordinary chondrites to justify its assignment to a separate petrologic type: L-7.  相似文献

The position of the dip equator (de) is worked out in the Indian region based on fairly close geomagnetic measurements made during a survey in the year 1981. Thede is located about 24 km south of its 1971 position along the 77·5°E meridian. Also, thede positions for the epochs 1971 and 1981 show closeness on the east coast of India when compared to its west coast positions. Thede positions inferred from the repeat observations since 1909 are used for estimating the pattern of migration and the results are discussed.  相似文献

Daily variations of the E-W and N-S components of ionospheric drifts, measured using closely spaced receiver method over Tiruchirapalli near magnetic equator, are described for the periods 1973–75 forE region and 1974–75 forF region. N-S component is not observed except for a few occasions during summer months for theE region. E-W component is generally eastward during night hours and westward during day hours. There is a large day-to-day variability in the magnitude as well as in the evening reversal time. Daily variations primarily consist of the diurnal component with average amplitude of about 90 m/sec forF region and of about 80 m/sec forE region. The drift speeds are found to decrease with magnetic activity. It is concluded that the abnormal electrojet region extends upto north of Tiruchirapalli in the Indian zone and drifts here can be used as a monitor of electric field.  相似文献

Experimental studies have been performed on an olivine tholeiite and tholeiitic picrite at pressure and temperature ranges of 20–40 kb and 1200–1300°C. The lower and upper limits of basalt-eclogite transition zone for tholeiitic picrite are 23 kb and 31·67 kb at 1200°C, and 24·67 kb and 33·67 kb at 1300°C, whereas for olivine tholeiite, these are 27 kb and 32·33 kb at 1200°C, and 28·70 kb and 33·70 kb at 1300°C. While the assemblages for both samples below the transition region are Pl+Px+Mt, they are Pl+Gt+Px+Mt within it. The eclogite field has Gt+Px+Mt. The ratio of garnet to plagioclase increases from the transition zone to the eclogite field and with the disappearance of plagioclase, the percentage of garnet increases to 30 in the eclogite field. Comparison of our results with previous studies on basalt-eclogite transition shows that the transition zone found by us occurs at higher pressure-temperature conditions. Seismic studies of the region below the Deccan Traps show an increase in velocity (1–4%) at depth. It is suggested that after partial melting, during ascent of the basaltic liquid, a significant portion of it crystallizes within the upper mantle as pockets of eclogite. As eclogite is more dense than peridotite, their presence should cause a similar increase in the seismic velocity below the Deccan area.  相似文献

Oxygen isotope compositions and fractionations between calcite (Cc) and magnetite (Mt), diopside-rich clinopyroxene (Di), monticellite (Mnt), kimzeyite-rich garnet (Gt), and biotite (Bt) were measured for carbonatites from Oka (Canada), Magnet Cove (USA), Jacupiranga (Brazil), and Essonville (Canada), to obtain crystallization temperatures and explore the crystallization history of carbonatites. The highest isotopic temperatures are obtained from Cc–Mt fractionations from Oka (745–770 °C) and Cc–Mnt fractionations from Magnet Cove (700 and 760 °C). Cc–Mt temperatures for very coarse-grained, euhedral magnetite phenocrysts and calcite from Jacupiranga are 700 °C. In samples that contain diopside and magnetite, the Cc–Mt temperatures are always higher than Cc–Di temperatures. This difference is consistent with crystallization of magnetite before diopside, minor retrograde resetting of magnetite isotopic compositions, and the order of crystallization inferred from inclusions of Mt in Di. Cc–Mt, Cc–Di, and Cc–Mnt fractionations are thus interpreted to represent those established during crystallization at rapid cooling rates (103–104 °C/my). Diffusion model calculations indicate that at slower post-crystallization cooling rates (10–102 °C/my), magnetite compositions should experience significant isotopic resetting by diffusional exchange with Cc, Bt, and apatite, and yield lower temperatures than Cc–Di. Cc–Bt fractionations correspond to the lowest temperatures (440–560 °C). Although some of these are relatively high isotopic temperatures for biotite, they most likely represent those established during subsolidus retrograde exchange between biotite and calcite during rapid subsolidus cooling.  相似文献

Recently, the thermal fluid loop has been established and continuosly operated for 7 days at the geothermal in situ laboratory in Groß Schönebeck (North German Basin). During this initial phase of fluid production, the fluid temperature, measured at the surface, continuously increased until a stable value of about 98 °C was established. Fluid physicochemical properties (pH, redox, density, temperature, and pressure) were measured online and in situ with a newly developed fluid monitoring system (FluMo). Additionally, fluid samples have been collected at various temperatures (in 5–10 °C steps) directly at the production well at about 10 bar pressure. From the pressurized sampling tool, the fluid was directly transferred into a heated autoclave, which allowed filtration (0.2 μm) in the absence of oxygen. Physicochemical parameters [pH, redox, electric conductivity, total dissolved solids (TDS)] as well as acid capacity (K S 4.3) of these samples have been measured onsite at atmospheric conditions. Concentrations of anions, total organic carbon, and metals were analyzed later in the laboratory. Both, measurements in collected samples or in situ (FluMo) analysis of most the parameters density, electric conductivity, or TDS indicated relatively constant values over the whole production time (1.17–1.18 g · cm?3, 215–221 mS · cm?1, 241–260 g · L?1, respectively). Good correlation was also found for pH values (pH = 6.6–6.9), whereas the redox values varied between ?1 and 46 mV when determined at 25 °C and decreased strongly when measured in situ with increasing temperature (?110 mV at 90 °C). The elemental composition of collected samples remained also relatively constant for most compounds and was clearly higher as compared with samples collected in 2011. Results of this study demonstrate that realistic, comprehensive, and time-resolved physicochemical data can be obtained by FluMo. These detailed data sets can be crucial to understand the complex geochemical processes in a thermal water loop and eventually to take required measures on time.  相似文献

An environmental model to compute microwave brightness temperatures for downward looking radiometers on board satellite is described. The effects of water vapour, oxygen and clouds on the brightness temperature have been studied for frequencies from 5 to 50 GHz for a standard tropical atmosphere. The effect of look angle on brightness temperture has also been investigated. Based on the model it has been shown that while the radiometers on boardBhaskara at 19·35 and 22·235 GHz are capable of giving the atmospheric water vapour and liquid water contents, the ability to distinguish these quantities is more for the combination of the frequencies 22·235 and 31 GHz.  相似文献

Concentration of7Be has been measured in 15 air filters flown at 18·3 km in the latitudes 10 to 25°N and longitudes 80 to 96°W. Testing of nuclear weapons in atmosphere increased7Be considerably, on two occasions, above the expected cosmic-ray production level in the stratosphere. Detectable ionization effects in the ionosphericD-region from individual, strong and steady x-ray sources such as Sco X-1 and transient x-ray sources such as Cet X-2 have been reported by us and many others previously based on the field strength and phase variations of the VLF data. As a follow up to these investigations, we have examined the integrated effects of many of the known x-ray sources discovered by UHURU, ANS, Ariel V and SAS-3 satellites, in order to understand the totality of their effects. These effects are examined in the present paper for 0° and +38° geographic latitudes corresponding to midnight conditions and for different times of the year. Such effects are compared, in turn, with those of the known steady sources responsible forD-region ionization such as Lyman-alpha and galactic cosmic radiations. The results are presented as profiles of electron production rates as a function of height. Our study leads to the conclusion that there should be detectable annual variations of the electron density which are pronounced around May-August. Further, the results of the computations on electron production rates corresponding to the spectacular x-ray nova A0620-00 are also included in the present paper.  相似文献

Western tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures and Pacific Deep Water temperatures during Marine Isotope Stage 3 have been reconstructed from the δ18O and Mg/Ca of planktonic and benthic foraminifera from Marion Dufresne core MD98-2181. This 36 m marine core was collected at 6.3°N from a water depth of 2114 m. With sediment accumulation rates of up to 80 cm/ky, it provides a decadally resolved history of ocean variability during the Last Glacial period. Surface temperatures and salinities at this site varied in close association with millennial-scale atmospheric temperature swings at high northern latitudes as reflected in the GISP2 ice core. At times of colder atmospheric temperatures over Greenland, the western Pacific was more saline and summer season SSTs were ~2 °C colder. These millennial-scale changes within the tropics are attributed to a southward displacement of the summer season ITCZ in response to steeper meridional temperature gradients within the Pacific. The benthic δ18O record from MD98-2181 documents upper Pacific Deep Water temperature and salinity variability. Benthic δ18O variations of 0.3–0.5‰ during MIS 3 indicate deep waters within the Pacific were varying by ~1–1.5 °C, with the possibility that some of the variability was due to changing salinity and minor glacial–eustatic changes. The observed deep-water variability correlates to changes in Antarctic surface temperatures and thus reflects changes in Southern Ocean temperatures at the site of Pacific Deep Water formation. The combined planktonic and benthic records from MD98-2181 thus provide a northern and southern hemispheric climate record of anti-phased variability during MIS 3 as has been inferred previously from ice core records. Furthermore, the deep sea temperature excursions appear to have led millennial variations in atmospheric CO2 as recorded in the EDML ice core by ~1 kyr.  相似文献

Interstitial brines from the Temblor and the McAdams sandstones at Kettleman are essentially NaCaCl solutions with subsidiary SO4 and the total salinities are roughly 30,000 and 10,000 ppm, respectively. Activities of H+ and all other aqueous species have been calculated for 100°C (the in situ temperatures of the brines) from chemical analyses of the brines and 100-degree dissociation constants alone. The brine alkalinities measured at surface temperature appear to be too low when comparing them against alkalinities calculated from the measured pHs of the brines. Consequently, alkalinities calculated for 25°C were substituted for the measured ones in the calculation of the distribution of aqueous species at 100°C.Although the brines are nearly neutral (pH 6·3–d7·9) at surface temperature, their pHs calculated for 100°C range from 8·1 to 8·7 (± 0·35). These pHs and the 100-degree activities of the other aqueous species permit graphic representation of the brines on activity diagrams. Most brines fall at or near the boundaries between the stability fields of quartz, albite, microcline, mica, montmorillonite and anhydrite. Because these minerals are present as authigenic phases in the sandstones, the calculations suggest that the minerals are in stable equilibrium with the brines. By contrast, the calculations suggest that the brines are supersaturated by about three orders of magnitude with respect to calcite, also present in the sandstones. One possible explanation for this is kinetic inhibition of calcite crystallization by Mg2+ and SO42? ions in the brines. Phosphatic pellets, glauconite and probably dolomite, pyrite and some kaolinite are early authigenic minerals preserved in the sandstones and they are not now in equilibrium with the brines, which are supersaturated with respect to dolomite and pyrite. The chemical relationship between the brines and the diagenetic minerals laumontite and sphene, also present in the Temblor Formation, cannot be assessed reliably until the thermodynamic properties of laumontite and of aqueous titanium complexes are well known.  相似文献

The high albite (Ab)?jadeite (Jd)+quartz(Q) reaction (1) and the quartz(Q)?coesite (Cs) transformation (2) have been determined within the temperature range of 1000–1100°C and 1000–1400°C respectively under variable pressures using an anvil-with-hole apparatus. The equilibrium curves for the two reactions as a function ofP andT are as follows: P=?1·33+0·0296T (reaction 1);P=18·949+0·0111T(reaction 2). These two lines intersect at 31·1±0·5kb and 1096°C. The possibility of using an anvil-with-hole apparatus for conducting current investigations is discussed in this paper.  相似文献

多不杂铜(金)矿床是西藏多龙矿集区重要的斑岩型铜矿床之一。详细的岩心编录和岩相学研究显示,多不杂铜(金)矿床发育4类磁铁矿:磁铁矿-1(Mt1)反射色呈灰白色,它形粒状,部分颗粒包含在黑云母内部;磁铁矿-2(Mt2)反射色呈粉棕色,半自形-它形粒状,边缘被赤铁矿交代,颗粒内部见少量黄铜矿;磁铁矿-3(Mt3)反射色呈粉棕色,自形-半自形,粒度小,表面平整,主要产于角岩化蚀变内;磁铁矿-4(Mt4)反射色呈深灰色,颗粒间隙被黄铁矿、黄铜矿交代。Mt1、Mt2属岩浆磁铁矿或岩浆-热液磁铁矿的过渡类型;Mt3、Mt4属岩浆-热液磁铁矿的过渡类型。Mt1、Mt2、Mt4磁铁矿形成温度大致在300~500℃,Mt3形成温度明显低于其他三类磁铁矿,大致在200~500℃。4类磁铁矿具有明显的地球化学差异,其中Mt1具...  相似文献

Polar ice cores are unique climate archives. Indeed, most of them have a continuous stratigraphy and present high temporal resolution of many climate variables in a single archive. While water isotopic records (δD or δ18O) in ice cores are often taken as references for past atmospheric temperature variations, their relationship to temperature is associated with a large uncertainty. Several reasons are invoked to explain the limitation of such an approach; in particular, post-deposition effects are important in East Antarctica because of the low accumulation rates. The strong influence of post-deposition processes highlights the need for surface polar research programs in addition to deep drilling programs. We present here new results on water isotopes from several recent surface programs, mostly over East Antarctica. Together with previously published data, the new data presented in this study have several implications for the climatic reconstructions based on ice core isotopic data: (1) The spatial relationship between surface mean temperature and mean snow isotopic composition over the first meters in depth can be explained quite straightforwardly using simple isotopic models tuned to d-excess vs. δ18O evolution in transects on the East Antarctic sector. The observed spatial slopes are significantly higher (~ 0.7–0.8‰·°C?1 for δ18O vs. temperature) than seasonal slopes inferred from precipitation data at Vostok and Dome C (0.35 to 0.46‰·°C?1). We explain these differences by changes in condensation versus surface temperature between summer and winter in the central East Antarctic plateau, where the inversion layer vanishes in summer. (2) Post-deposition effects linked to exchanges between the snow surface and the atmospheric water vapor lead to an evolution of δ18O in the surface snow, even in the absence of any precipitation event. This evolution preserves the positive correlation between the δ18O of snow and surface temperature, but is associated with a much slower δ18O-vs-temperature slope than the slope observed in the seasonal precipitation. (3) Post-deposition effects clearly limit the archiving of high-resolution (seasonal) climatic variability in the polar snow, but we suggest that sites with an accumulation rate of the order of 40 kg.m?2.yr?1 may record a seasonal cycle at shallow depths.  相似文献
