This paper presents numerical modeling techniques to capture the behavior of the triple friction pendulum (TFP) isolation bearing when rotation is permitted about the horizontal axes of the top and bottom components. This paper builds on a previous model for the TFP bearing presented by the authors that is based on the kinematic and constitutive relationships of the individual components of the TFP bearing. The effect of rotation on cyclic bearing behavior and seismic system behavior are investigated numerically for two cases: constant support rotation and variable support rotation. It is found that constant support rotations should be limited in amplitude to ensure standard TFP bearing behavior. Results suggest that flexible supports may not have a large effect on global structure performance as long as typical deformation limits for the supporting members are met. In cases of both constant support rotations and flexible supports, the hardening stages of TFP bearing behavior are diminished. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Current models describing the behavior for the triple friction pendulum (TFP) bearing are based on the assumption that the resultant force of the contact pressure acts at the center of each sliding surface. Accordingly, these models only rely on equilibrium in the horizontal direction to arrive at the equations describing its behavior. This is sufficient for most practical applications where certain constraints on the friction coefficient values apply as a direct consequence of equilibrium. This paper presents a revised model of behavior of the TFP bearing in which no assumptions are made on the location of the resultant forces at each sliding surface and no constraints on the values of the coefficient of friction are required, provided that all sliding surfaces are in full contact. To accomplish this, the number of degrees of freedom describing the behavior of the bearing is increased to include the location of the resultant force at each sliding surface and equations of moment equilibrium are introduced to relate these degrees of freedom to forces. Moreover, the inertia effects of each of the moving parts of the bearing are accounted for in the derivation of the equations describing its behavior. The model explicitly calculates the motion of each of the components of friction pendulum bearings so that any dependence of the coefficient of friction on the sliding velocity and temperature can be explicitly accounted for and calculations of heat flux and temperature increase at each sliding surface can be made. This paper presents (a) the development of the revised TFP bearing model, (b) the analytic solution for the force–displacement relations of two configurations of the TFP bearing, (c) a model that incorporates inertia effects of the TFP bearing components and other effects that are useful in advanced response history analysis, and (d) examples of implementation of the features of the presented model. While isolation can provide significantly enhanced performance compared to fixed‐base counter parts in design level or even maximum considered level earthquakes, there is still uncertainty over the performance of isolation systems in extreme events. Researchers have looked at component level stability of rubber bearings and on the effect of moat impact on behavior of structures isolated on general bilinear isolators. However, testing of triple friction pendulum (TFP) sliding bearings has not been done dynamically or incorporated into a building system. Here, one‐third scale laboratory tests were conducted to on a 2‐story 2‐bay TFP‐isolated structure. Input motions were increasingly scaled until failure occurred at the isolation level. As the superstructure was designed with a yield force equivalent to the force of the bearing just at their ultimate displacement capacity, there was minimal yielding. A numerical model is presented to simulate the isolated building up to and including bearing failure. Forces transferred to the superstructure in extreme motions are examined using both experimental and numerical data. Additionally, the effect of the hardening stage of the TFP bearing is evaluated using the numerical model, finding slight benefits.  相似文献

This paper presents a non‐linear, kinematic model for triple friction pendulum isolation bearings. The model, which incorporates coupled plasticity and circular restraining surfaces for all sliding surfaces, is capable of capturing bi‐directional behavior and is able to explicitly track the movement of each internal component. The model is general so that no conditions regarding bearing properties, which effect the sequence of sliding stages, are required for the validity of the model. Controlled‐displacement and seismic‐input experiments were conducted using the shake table at the University of California, Berkeley to assess the fidelity of the proposed model under bi‐directional motion. Comparison of the experimental data with the corresponding results of the kinematic model shows good agreement. Additionally, experiments showed that the performance of TFP bearings is reliable over many motions, and the behavior is repeatable even when initial slider offsets are present. 采用有限元软件ABAQUS,以锈蚀率(0%、5%、10%、15%和20%)为变量,对5根钢筋混凝土柱的力学性能进行了数值模拟,研究各试件的滞回性能、骨架曲线、延性及耗能能力,分析钢筋锈蚀率对承载力、延性、耗能和塑性铰转动能力的影响。研究结果表明:模拟分析得到的锈蚀钢筋混凝土柱的强度和变形与试验结果吻合较好,建立的有限元模型可用于锈蚀钢筋混凝土柱的力学性能分析;混凝土开裂前,锈蚀构件的力学性能基本与未锈蚀构件相同,混凝土开裂后,构件的承载力、屈服荷载、极限位移、延性等均随钢筋锈蚀率的增大而降低;轻度锈蚀构件的滞回性能和破坏形式与未锈蚀构件类似,随着钢筋锈蚀率逐渐增大,滞回环的饱满程度降低,“捏拢”现象严重,滞回曲线由“弓形”逐渐发展成“反S形”,耗能能力降低,破坏形式趋于脆性破坏,位移延性系数、平均耗能系数等指标逐渐下降。  相似文献

介绍了一种新型的铜框架梁柱节点形式,其中预应力钢绞线提供了结构在地震作用下的复位功能(自定心),设置在梁端下翼缘的摩擦件则为结构提供了耗能能力;介绍了下翼缘摩擦式自定心钢框架粱柱节点的构造和工作原理,以节点的低用反复加载试验结果为依据,利用面向对象的开放式计算程序OpenSees建立了节点的数值模型,并侧重于模拟节点在地震作用下的张开/闭合、自定心、摩擦耗能以及螺栓受剪等特性。由计算结果与试验结果对比可知,所建立的数值模型对节点的抗震性能具有良好的模拟效果。  相似文献

This paper compares the performance of analytical and numerical approaches for modeling DNAPL dissolution with biodecay. A solution derived from a 1-D advective transport formulation (“Parker” model) is shown to agree very closely with high resolution numerical solutions. A simple lumped source mass balance solution in which with decay is assumed proportional to DNAPL mass (“Falta1” model) over- or underpredicts aqueous phase biodecay depending on the magnitude of the exponential factor governing the relationship between dissolution rate and DNAPL mass. A modification of the Falta model that assumes decay proportional to the source exit concentration is capable of accurately simulating source behavior with strong aqueous phase biodecay if model parameters are appropriately selected or calibrated (“Falta2” model). However, parameters in the lumped models exhibit complex interdependencies that cannot be quantified without consideration of transport processes within the source zone. Combining the Falta2 solution with relationships derived from the Parker model was found to resolve these limitations and track the numerical model results. A method is presented to generalize the analytical solutions to enable simulation of partial mass removal with changes in source parameters over time due to various remedial actions. The algorithm is verified by comparison with numerical simulation results. An example application is presented that demonstrates the interactions of partial mass removal, enhanced biodecay, enhanced mass transfer and source zone flow reduction applied at various time periods on contaminant flux reduction. Increasing errors that arise in numerical solutions with coarse discretization and high decay rates are shown to be controlled by using an adjusted decay coefficient derived from the Parker analytical solution.  相似文献

The nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi in March 2011 has led the nuclear community to consider seismic isolation for new large light water and small modular reactors to withstand the effects of beyond design basis loadings, including extreme earthquakes. The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission is sponsoring a research project that will quantify the response of low damping rubber (LDR) and lead rubber (LR) bearings under loadings associated with extreme earthquakes. Under design basis loadings, the response of an elastomeric bearing is not expected to deviate from well‐established numerical models, and bearings are not expected to experience net tension. However, under extended or beyond design basis shaking, elastomer shear strains may exceed 300% in regions of high seismic hazard, bearings may experience net tension, the compression and tension stiffness will be affected by isolator lateral displacement, and the properties of the lead core in LR bearings will degrade in the short‐term because of substantial energy dissipation. New mathematical models of LDR and LR bearings are presented for the analysis of base isolated structures under design and beyond design basis shaking, explicitly considering both the effects of lateral displacement and cyclic vertical and horizontal loading. These mathematical models extend the available formulations in shear and compression. Phenomenological models are presented to describe the behavior of elastomeric isolation bearings in tension, including the cavitation and post‐cavitation behavior. The elastic mechanical properties make use of the two‐spring model. Strength degradation of LR bearing under cyclic shear loading due to heating of lead core is incorporated. The bilinear area reduction method is used to include variation of critical buckling load capacity with lateral displacement. The numerical models are coded in OpenSees, and the results of numerical analysis are compared with test data. A 2D depth‐averaged hydrodynamic, sediment transport and bed morphology model named STREMR HySeD is presented. The depth‐averaged sediment transport equations are derived from the 3D dilute, multiphase, flow equations and are incorporated into the hydrodynamic model STREMR. The hydrodynamic model includes a two‐equation turbulence model and a correction for the mean flow due to secondary flows. The suspended sediment load can be subdivided into different size classes using the continuum (two‐fluid) approach; however, only one bed sediment size is used herein. The validation of the model is presented by comparing the suspended sediment transport module against experimental measurements and analytical solutions for the case of equilibrium sediment‐laden in a transition from a rigid bed to a porous bed where re‐suspension of sediment is prevented. On the other hand, the bed‐load sediment transport and bed evolution numerical results are compared against bed equilibrium experimental results for the case of a meander bend. A sensitivity analysis based on the correction for secondary flow on the mean flow including the effect of secondary flow on bed shear stresses direction as well as the downward acceleration effect due to gravity on transverse bed slopes is performed and discussed. In general, acceptable agreement is found when comparing the numerical results obtained with STREMR HySeD against experimental measurements and analytical solutions. This study proposes a real-time error correction method for the forecasted water stage using a combination of forecast errors estimated by the time series models, AR(1), AR(2), MA(1) and MA(2), and the average deviation model to update the water stage forecast during rainstorm events. During flood forecasting and warning operations, the proposed real-time error correction method takes advantage of being individually and continuously implemented and the results not being updated to the hydrological model and hydraulic routings so as to save computational time by recalibrating the parameters of the proposed methods with real-time observation. For model validation, the current study adopts the observed and forecasted data on a severe typhoon, Morakot, collected at eight water level gauges in Southern Taiwan and provided by the flood forecast system FEWS_Taiwan, which is linked with the reliable quantitative precipitation forecast (QPF) at 3 h of lead time provided by the Center Weather Bureau in Taiwan, as the model validation. The results of numerical experiments indicate that the proposed real-time error correction method can effectively reduce the errors of forecasted water stages at the 1-, 2-, and 3-h lead time and so enhance the reliability of forecast information issued by the FEWS_Taiwan. By means of real-time estimating potential forecast error, the uncertainties in hydrology, modules as well as associated parameters, and physiographical features of the river can be reduced.  相似文献

岩石嵌固掏挖基础目前已经广泛应用于电力基础工程中。原状土由于受扰动较小,胶结性强,具有良好的抗剪强度,对掏挖基础抗拔承载力具有重要影响,因此研究原状土参数变化对基础上拔承载性能的影响规律具有重要意义。结合现场试验,建立数值模型,研究土体黏聚力、内摩擦角、弹性模量对基础上拔承载性能的影响规律。研究表明:土体内摩擦角和黏聚力对基础抗拔承载力具有较大影响,而弹性模量影响程度较低;参数的变化对土体塑性区发展规律影响较小。  相似文献

The widespread use of sliding bearings for the seismic isolation of structures requires detailed knowledge of their behavior and improved modeling capability under seismic conditions. The paper summarizes the results of a large experimental investigation on steel–PTFE interfaces, aimed at evaluating the effects of sliding velocity, contact pressure, air temperature and state of lubrication on the mechanical behavior of steel-PTFE sliding bearings. Based on the experimental outcomes, two different mathematical models have been calibrated, which are capable of accounting for the investigated parameters in the evaluation of the sliding friction coefficient. The first model is basically an extension of the model proposed by Constantinou et al. (1990)Journal of Earthquake Engineering, 116(2), 455–472, while the second model is derived from the one proposed by Changet al. (1990)Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 116, 2749–2763. Expressions of the model parameters as a function of bearing pressure and air temperature are presented for lubricated and non-lubricated sliding surfaces. This paper presents new results of centrifuge model tests exploring the behavior of rocking shallow foundations embedded in dry sand, which provides a variety of factors of safety for vertical bearing. The results of slow (quasi‐static) cyclic tests of rocking shear walls and dynamic shaking tests of single‐column rocking bridge models are presented. The moment–rotation and settlement–rotation relationships of rocking footings are investigated. Concrete pads were placed in the ground soil to support some models with the objective of reducing the settlement induced by rocking. The behavior of rocking foundation was shown to be sensitive to the geometric factor of safety with respect to bearing failure, Lf/Lc, where Lf was the footing length, and the Lc was the critical soil‐footing contact length that would be required to support pure axial loading. Settlements were shown to be small if Lf/Lc was reasonably large. Placement of concrete pads under the edges of the footing was shown to be a promising approach to reduce settlements resulting from rocking, if settlements were deemed to be excessive and also had impacts on the energy dissipation and rocking moment capacity. A general discussion of the tradeoffs between energy dissipation and re‐centering of rocking foundations and other devices is included. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Evensen (2003) presents a modification of the Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF), in which the observation-error and background-error covariance matrices are both represented by ensembles, in contrast to the usual practice, where only the background error is so represented. It is shown that this modification can cause the ensemble to collapse to a single member, in the common situation where the number of observations is more than twice the number of ensemble members, and to be rank-deficient when the number of observations is greater than or equal to the ensemble size. It is also shown that some further modifications to the scheme, presented by Evensen as offering numerical efficiencies, can prevent this collapse. In this paper, fluid flow is examined for a mature strike‐slip fault zone with anisotropic permeability and internal heterogeneity. The hydraulic properties of the fault zone were first characterized in situ by microgeophysical (VP and σc) and rock‐quality measurements (Q‐value) performed along a 50‐m long profile perpendicular to the fault zone. Then, the local hydrogeological context of the fault was modified to conduct a water‐injection test. The resulting fluid pressures and flow rates through the different fault‐zone compartments were then analyzed with a two‐phase fluid‐flow numerical simulation. Fault hydraulic properties estimated from the injection test signals were compared to the properties estimated from the multiscale geological approach. We found that (1) the microgeophysical measurements that we made yield valuable information on the porosity and the specific storage coefficient within the fault zone and (2) the Q‐value method highlights significant contrasts in permeability. Fault hydrodynamic behavior can be modeled by a permeability tensor rotation across the fault zone and by a storativity increase. The permeability tensor rotation is linked to the modification of the preexisting fracture properties and to the development of new fractures during the faulting process, whereas the storativity increase results from the development of micro‐ and macrofractures that lower the fault‐zone stiffness and allows an increased extension of the pore space within the fault damage zone. Finally, heterogeneities internal to the fault zones create complex patterns of fluid flow that reflect the connections of paths with contrasting properties.  相似文献

Previous studies on pounding responses of bridge structures mainly focus on the horizontal pounding between adjacent structures. However, the vertical pounding responses of bridge are rarely studied. The aim of this paper is develop a theoretical approach to investigate the transient behavior of continuous bridge under near‐fault vertical ground motions. The transient behavior of bridge manifests as the earthquake‐induced response wave and pounding‐induced response wave travel throughout bridge. Based on a new continuous model of beam–spring–rod, the theoretical solution of bridge responses involving multiple vertical poundings is derived by the expansion of transient wave functions in a series of eigenfunctions. A new theoretical solving approach of the multiple vertical pounding forces is presented based on the transient internal force on the contact surface of the girder and bearing. The numerical results show that the present method can reasonably capture the propagations of the earthquake‐induced response wave and pounding‐induced response wave. The calculations of pounding force by the present method are convergence of the time‐step size and truncation number of wave modes. As the effect of transient wave is taken into account, the numerical results show several transient phenomena involving the vertical pounding, the high pounding force, the multiple‐pounding phenomenon, the vertical separation of girder from the bearing, the dependence of poundings on earthquake period and the narrow period window of poundings. 以圆钢管约束高强灌浆料局部承压性能试验为基础,基于ABAQUS有限元计算平台,通过建立分段模型(Multi-section Model简称MSM模型)进行数值模拟,探究圆钢管约束高强灌浆料在局部承压作用下的力学性能,并将软件计算得到的荷载-位移曲线与试验结果进行对比分析。结果表明,分段模型适用于圆钢管约束高强灌浆料局部承压作用下的数值模拟,且计算结果与试验结果吻合较好;增大试件高径比、钢管壁厚和高强灌浆料强度均可提高其极限承载力。  相似文献

为克服利用OpenSEES进行预制拼装桥墩纤维模型分析时干接缝区域模拟困难的问题,提出一种由刚性单元、非线性梁柱单元、零长度单元配合ENT单压材料组成的干接缝单元。通过基于干接缝单元的纤维模型数值模拟结果与文献中的1:3.5缩尺桥墩拟静力试验结果对比发现:该干接缝单元不仅解决了墩身混凝土压溃带来的模型不收敛问题,而且考虑了墩身节段宽度对干接缝区域的影响,使预制拼装桥墩干接缝处的力学性能更接近实际的力学性能;数值模拟结果与试验结果吻合较好证明了该干接缝单元用于模拟预制拼装桥墩干接缝区域的可行性。在此基础上设置耗能钢筋、外包钢管和墩底橡胶支承垫层作为桥墩附加耗能装置,对预制拼装桥墩进行拟静力循环加载模拟,研究不同耗能装置对预制拼装桥墩的滞回能力、预应力筋内力、累积耗能、残余位移以及等效刚度等性能参数的影响。结果表明:设置耗能钢筋和外包钢管可以显著提高预制拼装桥墩的耗能能力、水平承载力和刚度,降低预应力损失;设置墩底橡胶支承垫层也能提高预制拼装桥墩的耗能能力,但会降低桥墩的水平承载力和刚度,应根据桥墩自身刚度谨慎选择橡胶垫层的刚度。  相似文献

将形状记忆合金(SMA)索与普通叠层橡胶垫复合可以形成具有滞回阻尼性能的SMA-橡胶隔震支座。在原SMA-橡胶支座(I型)的基础上,在支座中增加弹簧改善SMA耗能拉索的功能,设计了II型SMA-橡胶支座,建立了支座的理论模型。通过数值计算详细考察了此种支座的工作特性,并与Ⅰ型SMA-橡胶支座的性能进行了对比。  相似文献
