Biogenic carbonate sediments are subdivided by mode of carbonate material deposition into benthonogenic and nektono-planktonogenic varieties. The latter variety comprises two main types: cloddy nodular limestones (commonly with abundant ammonoids) and relatively uniform bedded limestones. They are mostly microgranular formations with a variable amount of nannoplanktonic remains. The progressive though uneven increase in contribution of nektono-planktonogenic rocks and respective decrease in benthonogenic sediments are pointed out through the Earth's history along with concurrent increase in sedimentation depth and change of rock-forming organisms. Paleozoic tentaculitids, orthoceratites, and partly ostracodes gave way to Triassic and Jurassic ammonites, foraminiferas, coccolithophorids, and then to Cretaceous coccolithophorids, Cenozoic coccolithophorids, foraminiferas, and to a lesser extent, pteropods.  相似文献

The late-Kimmeridgian Southern Jura (France) is a carbonate platform where laminated limestones accumulated locally (notably at Orbagnoux). The two types of laminations encountered result either from particle settling in a very quiet environment or from bacterial mat growth. In the latter case, as revealed by acid etching, the dark-coloured laminae result from filamentous cyanobacteria developments, whereas the light-coloured laminae appear, surprisingly, to comprise packed peloids. These peloids are interpreted as originating from the in vivo or shortly post mortem calcification of sheaths of coccoid cyanobacteria in an environment loaded by temporary excess alkalinity (and possible H2S emissions). Thus, a simple etching treatment reveals the unsuspected, albeit prominent, role of cyanobacteria in the genesis of the limestones from Orbagnoux. As such facies are widespread in Late Jurassic records, the role of cyanobacteria in their formation deserves re-evaluation.  相似文献

浮游藻类是重要的湖相生油母质,本文以渤海湾盆地济阳坳陷早第三纪湖相生油岩为例,研究了其中藻类(主要是颗石藻和沟鞭藻_化石的分布特征,并通过与现代水体中藻类生产和沉积作用的比较,探讨了生油湖泊中藻类生产和沉积方式及其对油源岩形成所起的控制作用,结果显示,藻类勃发现象在早第三纪生油湖泊中相当普遍,而且贯穿于各类油源岩的形成过程,这类快速事件性沉积是湖相油源岩形成的一种重要机制。  相似文献

Upper Cretaceous nodular limestones in Jordan were originated by burrowing organisms of the types Thalassinoides, Callianassa or Ophiomorpha. Although burrows are difficult to recognize in the pure lutitic limestones of northern Jordan, in the south they are filled by early diagenetic stochiometric dolomite or chert. One may conclude that some nodular limestones hitherto described, are products of burrowing organisms and not of purely chemical processes.  相似文献

This paper summarizes previous studies of coccolithophores laboratory culture with emphasis on the application of cultured coccolithophores in the ecology, paleoceanography and petroleum. Because of the particular biology and physiology characteristics, coccolithophorid bloom can influence marine and atmosphere environment deeply , play an important roal in global carbon cycle and geological evolution. In the aspect of culture, we introduce the cultural method, the influence of cocolithophores growth by setting different environment parameters, the principle of suitable culture meduim depending on different research purpose. In the aspect of application, firstly, this paper discusses the physiological responses of coccolithophorids about ocean acidification. Then, coccolithophorid is high producer of DMSP(dimethylsulphoniopropionate)which can be divides into gas DMS, which can influence marine and atmosphere environment deeply through some chemical course. Further, another important application is the element geochemistry of coccoliths which is very meaningful in paleoceanography and paleoclimatology study. Finally, this paper also discusses the application of coccolithophores hydrocarbon generation to petroleum geology.  相似文献

The significance of stromatolites as depositional environmental indicators and the underlying causes of lamination in the lacustrine realm are poorly understood. Stromatolites in a ca 600 m thick Miocene succession in the Ebro Basin are good candidates to shed light on these issues because they are intimately related to other lacustrine carbonate and sulphate facies, grew under variable environmental conditions and show distinct lamination patterns. These stromatolites are associated with wave‐related, clastic‐carbonate laminated limestones. Both facies consist of calcite and variable amounts of dolomite. Thin planar stromatolites (up to 10 cm thick and less than 6 m long) occurred in very shallow water. These stromatolites represented first biological colonization after: (i) subaerial exposure in the palustrine environment (i.e. at the beginning of deepening cycles); or (ii) erosion due to surge action, then coating very irregular surfaces on laminated limestones (i.e. through shallowing or deepening cycles). Sometimes they are associated with evaporative pumping. Stratiform stromatolites (10 to 30 cm high and tens of metres long) and domed stromatolites (10 to 30 cm high and long) developed in deeper settings, between the surge periods that produced hummocky cross‐stratification and horizontal lamination offshore. Changes in stromatolite lamina shape, and thus in the growth forms through time, can be attributed to changes in water depth, whereas variations in lamina continuity are linked to water energy and sediment supply. Growth of the stromatolites resulted from in situ calcite precipitation and capture of minor amounts of fine‐grained carbonate particles. Based on texture, four types of simple laminae are distinguished. The simple micrite and microsparite laminae can be grouped into light and dark composite laminae, which represent, respectively, high and low Precipitation/Evaporation ratio periods. Different lamination patterns provide new ideas for the interpretation of microbial laminations as a function of variations in climate‐dependent parameters (primarily the Precipitation/Evaporation ratio) over variable timescales.  相似文献

The Maastrichtian chalk of the southern Central Graben, Danish North Sea, is a homogeneous pure white coccolithic chalk mudstone deposited in a deep epeiric shelf sea, which covered large parts of northern Europe. The sediment displays a pronounced cyclicity marked by decimetre‐thick bioturbated beds alternating with slightly thinner non‐bioturbated, mainly laminated beds. The laminated half‐cycles consist of alternating millimetre‐thick, graded, high‐porosity laminae and non‐graded, low‐porosity laminae. The cyclicity has been interpreted previously as caused by periods of slow background sedimentation and bioturbation interrupted by periods of rapid deposition of laminated beds, with the latter reflecting random and local resedimentation processes. Based on textural and structural analysis, the millimetre‐scale, non‐graded laminae are interpreted as having been deposited directly from pelagic rain of pelleted coccoliths representing the primary production. The graded laminae were deposited from small‐volume, low‐density turbidity currents and suspension clouds. The sedimentation rates of the cyclical chalk are similar to those known elsewhere, and the lamination is interpreted as having been preserved from destruction through bioturbation by anoxic conditions at the seafloor. Bioturbated–laminated cycles are thus formed by slow sedimentation during alternating seafloor redox conditions probably on a Milankovitch scale. A direct implication of this interpretation is that the cycles are areally widespread, probably extending throughout the southern Central Graben area and may be useful for correlation and high‐resolution cyclostratigraphy in the chalk fields of the Danish North sea. If the laminated half‐cycles represent a few rapid resedimentation events, with a high sedimentation rate as suggested by most workers, then the sediment would not be truly cyclic, but would represent event sedimentation within a pelagic background represented by the bioturbated beds. In this case, the cycles would have very limited potential for correlation.  相似文献

Fabrics of phosphatized calcium carbonate particles in various phosphorites have been studied using scanning electron microscopy coupled with X-ray dispersive microanalysis. Replacement of calcium carbonate by apatite has been observed in bivalve shell fragments and in foraminiferal tests; replacement proceeds at constant volume with excellent preservation of the original microtextures. In some deposits, replacement of carbonate by apatite is the main phosphogenic process. However, in general, the process seems to be far less important than might be believed purely on the basis of thin section observations. In many phosphorites, internal or external apatite moulds of bioclasts are common, including very small particles such as coccoliths in phosphatized chalks. Apatite precipitation was typically followed by carbonate dissolution. Later apatite precipitation within the dissolution voids may produce partial or total phosphate pseudomorphs of the original carbonate grain. In these examples direct replacement of carbonate by phosphate cannot be demonstrated.  相似文献

Temperate shelf carbonate sediments in the Cenozoic of New Zealand   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Shelf limestones are widely distributed in New Zealand Cenozoic sequences and are especially well developed in the Oligocene. Detailed field and laboratory work on several Oligocene occurrences, and reconnaissance field-work at most other sections have elucidated the major characteristics of the environment, texture, composition and diagenesis of these sediments. Several generalizations emerge which contrast with the commonly accepted characteristics of shallow marine carbonate sedimentation established from studies of tropical and subtropical deposits. The limestones are either calcarenites or, less commonly, calcilutites and, in general, these two lithologies are mutually exclusive, both in time and space. The allochems and interparticle carbonate mud (where developed) in calcarenitic limestones consist almost exclusively of fragmented skeletal material derived primarily from bryozoan, echinodermal, benthic foraminiferal, barnacle, brachiopod, bivalve and coralline red algal tests. The calcilutitic limestones consist mainly of whole and disintegrated tests of pelagic foraminifers and coccolithophorids. Non-skeletal carbonate components such as ooids, pellets and aggregates are conspicuously absent from both lithologies. Reefal structures are also absent or rare and are mainly oyster reefs. The limestones commonly contain a significant content of terrigenous material and/or glauconite and at the stratigraphic level the limestones are intimately associated with terrigenous formations. The distribution of the carbonate sediments has been governed mainly by rate of supply of river-derived terrigenous material, by subsequent dispersal patterns of this material over the shelf, and by current sorting. As a consequence of selective grain transport, bedding in the limestones is often defined by the cyclic alternation on a wide range of scales of carbonate units that are relatively enriched and relatively impoverished in terrigenous material. The primary (carbonate) mineralogy of the carbonate sediments was completely dominated by magnesium calcite and/or calcite with only small amounts of aragonite and no dolomite or associated evaporite minerals. The metastable magnesium calcite and aragonite grains were probably altered on, or close below, the shallow sea-floor. Among other factors, transformation was encouraged by the absorption of magnesium in pore waters by montmorillonitic clays and by the complete oxidation of all organic matter in the bottom sediments. Magnesium calcite grains were stabilized by texturally non-destructive incongruent dissolution, but aragonite was often dissolved without trace from the sediment, especially in grainstones. Thus submarine diagenesis has been characterized by selective dissolution phenomena. Cementation by granular and syntaxial rim orthosparite of calcite and/or ferroan calcite composition occurred mainly during shallow subsurface burial and was associated with the intergranular solution of calcitic skeletal fragments, especially at those levels in the sediment relatively enriched in terrigenous material. This lithification process has worked to accentuate and modify original litho-logic differences and sedimentary structures in the primary sediments and has produced a kind of rhythmic vertical alternation of less well cemented, microstylolitized, impure limestone beds (‘cement-donor’ beds) and well cemented, more open textured, purer limestone beds (‘cement-receptor’ beds). The New Zealand limestones formed between latitudes 60° S and 35° S under generally cool temperate to warm temperate climate conditions. Oxygen isotopes suggest that surface waters were mainly significantly cooler than 20°C, so that shelf waters may have experienced extended periods of undersaturation with respect to calcium carbonate. Generally open circulation patterns maintained near normal salinity values over the entire shelf platform. Calculated sedimentation rates for the New Zealand carbonate sediments are generally very low (< 5 cm/1000 years). Periods of more active deposition commonly alternated with longer periods of non-deposition and by-passing or erosion. It is concluded that many characteristics of the New Zealand shelf limestone occurrences are explained best by a temperate latitude model of shallow marine carbonate sedimentation.  相似文献

Core MD02-2508 retrieved from the plateau of the continental slope off Baja California recovered a 40-m-thick section of sapropel (up to 15% Corg), calcareous clay, and diatom ooze with the age of 120 ka at the core bottom. The section is subdivided into three units: Unit I (Holocene) consists of the laminated sapropel; Unit II comprising oxygen isotope stages (MIS) 2, 3, and 4 is represented by homogeneous calcareous clay with interbeds of slightly siliceous sapropelic mud; and Unit III (MIS-5) is composed of laminated sapropelic diatom ooze. Laminated intervals are characterized by the intercalation of two lamina types: (1) dark-colored organic-rich laminae containing multi-species “oceanic” diatom assemblages, as well as radiolarians, coccoliths, planktonic and benthic foraminifera; (2) lighter-colored laminae consisting of diatom ooze with the neritic colonial diatom assemblages commonly composed of one to three species of a single genera. The dark laminae are assumed to be generated within a high productivity zone over the slope, whereas light ones likely represent diatom mats produced by short-term boisterous phytoplankton blooms, possibly in the coastal upwelling.  相似文献

In the Tithonian Solnhofen Plattenkalk (Malm + 2) of southern Germany, layers of purely micritic limestone are rhythmically interbedded with ones of marly micritic limestone. It appears that this alternation was formed under control of the Tithonian orbital variations. The Fourier spectral analysis shows that, on a decimetric to metric scale, the long-term cyclicities in the number of laminae per centimetre are in agreement with those found in the bed-thickness series, varying from 0.7 to 1.3 m cycles. The number of laminae of the Solnhofen Formation ranges from about 5,800 to about 12,800 laminae per main cycle. This indicates that, under an assumption that the main cycle of the Solnhofen Formation corresponds to the Tithonian precessional one, a single lamina represents a multi-year time interval. Particularly, in the short-term cyclic domain, the laminated sequence contains clearly millimetric cycles consisting of about two to three cyclic components. It implies that laminae formation may result from the composite effect of two or three distinct climatic processes.  相似文献

Phosphatic limestones on the west end of Little Cayman, at an elevation of 3 to 4 m above sea level and ca 320 to 550 m inland of the coast, lie on top of a phytokarst surface that defines the upper boundary of the Pedro Castle Formation (Pliocene). These phosphatic limestones are formed of phosphatic lithoclasts, detrital phosphate grains, coated grains (glaebules), composite coated grains, biofragments and phosphate rafts that are held in a matrix that is formed of micrite, calcite cement, and non-crystalline masses formed of P, Al, Si and Fe. The phosphate in these limestones is primarily hydroxylapatite, whereas the overlying soils, found in some areas, are formed of hydroxylapatite, crandallite and minor amounts of boehemite, kaolinite and quartz. Textures in the lithoclasts and detrital phosphate grains indicate that they were derived from older insular phosphates that that were largely removed by mining in 1890 to 1895. The coated grains (glaebules) typically have nuclei formed of a detrital phosphate grains that are encased by non-crystalline cortical laminae that are composed primarily of Al with their variable red colour reflecting the variable Fe content. The phosphatic limestones developed in a low-lying coastal area where the guano produced by a large seabird colony that was close to or mixed with terra rossa and marine carbonates that were washed onshore during storms/hurricanes. The Al, Fe, Si and rare earth elements found in the phosphatic limestones came from the terra rossa. Critically, this study documents the complex depositional regimes and diagenetic processes that can exist at the interface of marine carbonates, coastal phosphates and terrestrial soils as sea-level fluctuations control phases of sediment accumulation that were periodically interrupted by periods of non-deposition.  相似文献

贵阳地区下三叠统是一个完整的碳酸盐岩层序(相当于三级旋回层序).该层序中的凝缩段由深色薄层(单层厚0.5cm~1cm)的泥晶灰岩和泥质条带灰岩组成.凝缩段中产丰富的遗迹化右.该遗迹群落为:Cochlichnus,Cosmorhaphe,Chondrites,Gordia,Huaxich-nus,Oldhamia,Phycosiphon.Protopaleodictyon,Pinnatpedus,Mammillichnus,Neonerites和生物扰动构造.遗迹化石组合与Nereites遗迹相相似。此外,文本还讨论了此遗迹群落的形成原因。  相似文献

由Folk在1959,1962年及Dunham在1962年所提出的灰岩因-结构分类体系,具有划时代的意义,至今还得到极为广泛的应用,Embry和Klovan在1971年关于生物礁灰岩的成因-结构分类,即关于骨架灰岩,障积灰岩,粘结灰岩的成因-结构分类的第一次重要的补充,它解决了与生物作用有关的灰岩不符合Folk和Dunham的结构成熟度概念的矛盾,而对成岩作用及其产物的更深入研究,地质学家们发现了许多布成岩作用形成的泥晶化作用和颗粒化作用,由它们所形成的岩石也不符合Folk和Dunbam的结构成熟度概念,导致了Wright在1992年提出了一个更完整的灰岩成因-结构分类体系,把灰岩分为生物作用类,沉积作用类及成岩作用类三大类,即Folk和Dumban描述的分类均属于沉积作用类。要特别指出的是,在从松散沉积物到已石化的竖硬石头的成岩过程中,不但灰岩的结构会发生变化,而且组分也会发生变化,从而使灰岩的成因-结构分类变得更加复杂,关于这方面还存在许多有待进一步研究的问题。在审视Wright在1992年的分类体系时,有必要在沉积作用类中增加“非正常沉积作用亚类灰岩”,针对许多非礁相地层中发育的由生物礁岩石构成的生物层及生物丘,因而有必要对生物作用灰灰岩进行更进一步的分类。  相似文献

一、引言自从Ginsburg(1955)及Logan等(1961,1964)研究了巴哈马、佛罗里达和西澳大利亚的现代藻叠层石以来,已经建立了用藻叠层石的形态和构造来解释现代或古代海洋沉积环境的基础。在我国,报道前寒武纪叠层石的文章较多,上古生代则不多见。作者自1980年以来对广东泥盆纪碳酸盐沉积中的藻叠层石做了一些研究,现根据所得资料进行报道。  相似文献

兴山下奥陶统由西陵峡组、南津关组、分乡组、红花园组、大湾组和牯牛潭组组成。岩石类型包括泥晶灰岩、生物碎屑灰岩、鲕粒灰岩、内碎屑灰岩、白云岩等,为一套典型的台地或沉没台地型陆表海碳酸盐沉积。颗粒灰岩在剖面中占绝大多数,其中,鲕粒灰岩、内碎屑灰岩和多数生物碎屑灰岩均为亮晶方解石胶结。鲕粒和砂屑的粒度参数和曲线分布特征说明,砂屑和鲕粒在形成过程中均经历了较强的水动力搬运或搅动。早奥陶世从西陵峡组沉积开始到牯牛潭组沉积结束,沉积环境经历了从局限台地潮坪环境到开阔台地再到浅海陆棚的演化。其中,潮坪环境包括云坪、灰坪、灰云坪等,而开阔台地环境为各种颗粒滩和生物礁。环境的演化反映了从早到晚海水逐渐加深的过程。  相似文献

Sequences of laminated limestones found within thin Carboniferous carbonate strata of northeastern Kentucky were studied to determine their origin and palaeo-environmental significance. These laminated zones are strikingly similar to Holocene and Pleistocene surficial calcareous crusts (caliche) profiles that occur in various parts of the world. Carboniferous laminated carbonates are associated with shallow marine carbonate units, palaeokarst, and overlying palaeosol zones. A typical laminated profile ranges in thickness from 1 to 2 m and contains brecciated, light olive-grey to brown micrite that lacks distinctive bedding. Structures and textures common in most profiles include: (1) calcareous and silicious laminae (laminae form diffuse, alternating light and dark bands that generally parallel bedding but often fill fractures and vugs within the rocks); (2) particles (allochems, and micrite and microspar fragments) coated by brown microcrystalline calcite; (3) brecciated texture; (4) circular to elliptical fossil moulds (occur in sinuous patterns and fill fractures within the rocks); (5) large and small scale fracture patterns. Subaerial weathering and vadose diagenesis of carbonate mud banks or islands is suggested as a mechanism for the formation of these Carboniferous calcareous crust profiles. These ‘crusts’ formed by a combination of solution (karsting), brecciation, and soil development that transformed an exposed marine biomicrite (‘host’ rock) into a porous subsoil rubble. Laminated ‘crusts’ and coated particles developed as the result of dissolution and reprecipitation of CaCO3 and SiO3 from the soil and carbonate bedrock. Carboniferous laminated carbonates in northeastern Kentucky are often referred to as ‘algal limestones’ because of their superficial similarity to some modern and ancient algal structures. This study, however, reveals numerous characteristics that can only be explained by diagenesis in a subaerial environment.  相似文献
