Numerical solutions of irrotational, progressive surface gravity waves in water of a constant depth are obtained by means of an iterative method. Our results suggest that waves with the surface slope angle greater than/6 may exist. The calculated phase velocity of deep water waves near the wave steepness 0.14 is significantly smaller than the value given by the Stokes' fourth approximation. In order to check our method, we apply it to the problem proposed byDavies (1951), which is hypothetical but similar to the present problem, and for which the exact solution is known. In this case our results show good agreement with the exact solution.  相似文献

Computational fluid dynamics analysis was used to investigate the added mass momentum, flow momentum and gravity effects during the constant velocity water entry of wedge-shaped sections with deadrise angles from 5° to 45°. It is shown that the added mass continues to increase for a time after chine immersion and that added mass can be estimated in terms of a constant added mass coefficient and an effective wetted width. A momentum theory is presented in which the water entry force is explained as the sum of the rate of change of added mass momentum, which becomes zero at immersion to chine depth ratios greater than about three, and the rate of change of flow momentum, which continues at deep immersions. The effect of gravity on the water entry force is given as the hydrostatic force together with the force necessary to create the potential energy in the water pile up. Hydrodynamic forces are not significantly changed by the effect of gravity on the flow fields.  相似文献

The linear time-dependent motion of a floating elastic or rigid body, subject to some initial displacement, which subsequently evolves freely is considered. The solution is derived by a Fourier transform and by the generalized eigenfunction method. Compared to other solutions, such as the Cummins method, the present solution requires neither time-stepping nor high-frequency calculations. A series of new identities for the frequency-domain problem are also presented. The Fourier transform solution allows an approximate solution to be calculated by an expansion over the complex resonances known as the singularity expansion method. Simple expressions for the singularity expansion method approximation are given. The method is illustrated with a series of numerical calculations.  相似文献

Based on a two dimensional linear water wave theory, the boundary element method (BEM) is developed and applied to study the heave and the sway problem of a floating rectangular structure in water to finite depth with one side of the boundary is a vertical sidewall and the other boundary is an open boundary. Numerical results for the added mass and radiation damping coefficients are presented. These coefficients are not only depend on the submergence and the width of the structure, but also depend on the clearance between structure and sidewall. Negative added mass and sharp peaks in the damping and added mass coefficients have been found when the clearance with a value close to integral times of half wave length of wave generated by oscillation structure. The important effect of the clearance on the added mass and radiation damping coefficients are discussed in detail. An analytical solution method is also presented. The BEM solution is compared with the analytical solution, and the comparison shows good agreement.  相似文献

Abstract

In this article three main stages of tsunami wave evolution are investigated. At first, the development of disturbances from a given patched elevation of the bottom surface in an incompressible nonviscous fluid of the uniform depth is considered. Then, a tsunami wave diffraction by underwater bottom elevation or cavity is investigated. In this case the shallow water equations are already used, and it is supposed that a cylindrical wave is spread from patched water elevation over the epicentrum. Last, the tsunami propagation and transformation in a shallow water region and its run‐up on a beach are investigated on the basis of the improved shallow water theory, taking into consideration the nonlinear and dispersive terms of higher order. The proposed theory is tested in a problem of collisions of two solutions. Solutions of the first and the second problems are obtained by the method of integral Laplace's transformation with following numerical inversion of transformations. A finite difference method for a solution of the last problem is used.  相似文献

On the heave radiation of a rectangular structure   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper, an analytic solution to the heave radiation problem of a rectangular structure is presented. To solve the problem analytically, the nonhomogeneous boundary value problem is linearly decomposed into homogeneous ones, which can be readily solved. To provide further comparisons to the present analytic solution, a boundary element method is also presented to solve the problem. The present analytic solution is compared with the result by Black et al. [(1971)] Radiation and scattering of water waves by rigid bodies. J. Fluid Mech. 46, 151–164], and the boundary element solution, and the comparisons show very good agreements. Upon examination of the present analytic solution, it is shown that the solution satisfies the nonhomogeneous boundary condition in a sense of series convergence. Using the present analytic solution, the generated waves, the added mass and the radiation damping coefficients, as well as the hydrodynamic effects of the submergence and the width of the structure, are investigated.  相似文献

A two-dimensional hybrid finite element method is developed to study the scattering of water waves by an island and to calculate wave forces and moments on offshore structures. The offshore structure, which could be either semi-submerged or fully extended in the water, is assumed to be stationary. The numerical model is based on the mild-slope equation. It can be applied to both long-wave and short-wave problems. A special treatment for the problem with the semi-submerged structure is introduced. Comparisons are given with existing analytical solutions and other numerical results. The present model is shown to be an efficient and accurate method for the solution of wave refraction and diffraction problems.  相似文献

Added mass and damping of a vertical cylinder in finite-depth waters   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A comprehensive set of theoretical added masses and wave damping data for a floating circular cylinder in finite-depth water is presented. The hydrodynamic problem is solved by matching eigen functions of the interior and exterior problems. The resulting infinite system is solved directly and found to have excellent truncation characteristics. Added mass and damping are given for heave, sway, and roll motion, as well as coupling coefficients for sway and roll. It is shown that the heave added mass is logarithmic singular and the damping approaches a constant in the low-frequency limit. Transition of the behaviour in finite-depth water to deep water is also discussed.  相似文献

The free motions in waves of submerged vehicles with a spherical hull from but different metacentric heights are sought. The problem is analysed by considering the submerged vehicle as a neutrally buoyant sphere. The solutions to two independent problems, namely the radiation problem and the diffraction problem, are required. Nondimensional parameters known as the added mass, damping and diffraction coefficients for neutrally buoyant spheres are derived and computed values of these coefficients are presented in tabulated form. The responses of surge, heave and pitch are explicitly expressed by these coefficients and the metacentric height of the submarine. A spherical submarine is practically motionless relative to the particle movement of waves except at the vicinity of reasonant frequency, which is governed by the value of metacentric height.  相似文献

A complete analytical solution is presented for the linear diffraction of oblique waves by horizontal rectangular cylinders either fixed at the free surface or mounted on the sea bed in a finite-depth of water. Helmholtz equation is employed as the governing differential equation obtained by reducing the 3-D oblique wave scattering problem to a 2-D case. According to the method proposed, the fluid region is divided into three sub-regions in which the governing differential equation is solved by the separation of variables. The solutions for each region are then matched on the common boundaries of sub-regions to determine the unknowns of the eigen series expansions and Fourier series. Thus transmitted and reflected waves are obtained in the far-field, and forces and moments acting on the rectangular cylinder fixed at the free surface are also given. Comparisons are made in order to check the accuracy of the method.  相似文献

In this paper, a beam without contact with water is called the “dry” beam and the one in contact with water is called the “wet” beam. For a partially (or completely) immersed uniform beam carrying an eccentric tip mass possessing rotary inertia, the conventional analytical (closed-form) solution is achieved by considering the inertial forces and moments of the tip mass and rotary inertia as the boundary conditions at the tip end of the beam. However, it has been found that the approximate solution for the last problem may be achieved by two techniques: Method 1 and Method 2. In Method 1, the basic concept is the same as the conventional analytical method; but in Method 2, the tip end of the beam is considered as a free end, while the inertial forces and moments induced by the tip mass and rotary inertia are considered as the external loads applied at the tip end of the beam. The main differences between the formulation of Method 1 and that of Method 2 are: In Method 1, the “normal” shapes of the “dry” beam are functions of the frequency-dependent boundary conditions but the external loads at the tip end are equal to zero; On the contrary, in Method 2, the “normal” mode shapes of the “dry” beam are determined based on the zero boundary conditions at the tip end of the beam but the external loads at the tip end due to the inertial effects of the tip mass and rotary inertia must be taken into consideration for the free vibration analysis of the “wet” beam. Numerical results reveal that the approximate solution obtained from Method 2 are very close to that from Method 1 if the tip mass moment of inertia is negligible. Besides, the two approximate solutions are also very close to the associated analytical (closed-form) solution or the finite element solution. In general, it is hoped that there exist several methods for tackling the same problem so that one may have more choices to incorporate with the specified cases. It is believed that the two approximate methods presented in this paper will be significant from this point of view.  相似文献

Statics of a three component mooring line   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Catenary equations are solved for a three component mooring made up of two lines, connected at a point buoy or sinker where water depth and fairlead tension are given. This configuration is typical of deep water moorings and solutions are required for preliminary design of mooring systems and measurement of stability in service of moored floating platforms. The problem is transformed to a single polynomial equation of degree eight and is solved by Laguerre's iteration. Where there is no buoy or sinker the equation reduces to a quartic and can be solved in closed form. Elongation of the lines is shown to be equivalent to small uncertainties in the weights per unit length. The method is computationally efficient.  相似文献

A second-order potential solution is presented for the diffraction of a nonlinear progressive wave in finite-depth water, incident on a fixed circular dock. The usual perturbation analysis is used to produce first- and second-order subproblems. The mathematical method is based on the assumption that inner and outer solutions exist and these are matched by the requirements of continuity for mass flux and pressure between adjacent regions. It is shown that the solutions for the second-order problem can be derived in the same manner as in the first-order theory.  相似文献

The sway, heave and roll added masses of three uniform cylinders with semi-circular, rectangular and triangular cross-sectional shapes in shallow and narrow water are numerically analysed. The method is based on simulation of the potential flow induced by the cylinder's mode of motion. The effects of shallow and narrow water on added mass are analysed and presented. It is concluded that the shallow and narrow water effects on added mass depend on the different cross-section shapes of the cylinders. In particular, the water depth effect on sway added mass is stronger than that on heave added mass while the narrow water effect on sway is weaker than that on heave. The shallow water effect on added mass tends to weaken the narrow water effect. Lastly the effect of shallow and narrow water on added mass on a rectangular cylinder is the strongest while that on a triangular cylinder is the weakest.  相似文献

Let A,B,C denote three mainland‐stations whose positions are unknown. Let D,E,F denote the positions of a moving ship at three different moments of time. At any of the locations D,E,F, the three azimuths to the target‐stations A,B,C are measured. The problem is to determine from these nine measurements the mutual positions of all stations A,B,C,D,E,F up to a common shift and a change of scale. The problem was formulated by J. H. Lambert in 1765. He also specified a mathematical solution. In this paper so‐called “critical configurations”; are investigated. It is shown that there are nontrivial configurations of the six stations A to F, such that solution of the problem is not unique (critical configuration of the first kind). There is a larger set of configurations, such that the linearized problem admits of an infinity of solutions (critical configurations of the second kind). In the latter case, the original nonlinear problem may be solvable, but the solution is highly unstable with respect to perturbations of the measurements. The main result obtained is as follows. If all stations A to F are located on a second degree curve, i.e., on a conic section, then the configuration is critical, at least of the second kind. The configuration continues to be critical if arbitrarily many observations and target‐points are added which are all situated on the second‐degree curve.  相似文献

The radiation problem for two parallel-spaced cylinders is studied. The solution is expressed explicitly in terms of well-behaved convergent series with elementary functions, which are convenient for numerical computation and readily applicable for two-dimensional two-body potential problems. The added mass and damping coefficients together with the phase angles of radiated wave potentials for the forced heave and sway motions of two identical submerged cylinders are presented. The results are useful for determination of the hydrodynamic properties of multi-hull semi-submersibles. In view of the close relationship between a radiation and a scattering problem, the application of the results to the problem of energy extraction from water waves is also noted.  相似文献

The linear three-dimensional problem of ice loads acting on a vertical circular cylinder frozen in an ice cover of infinite extent is studied. The loads are caused by an uni-directional hydroelastic wave propagating in the ice cover towards the cylinder mounted to the see bottom in water of constant depth. There are no open water surfaces in this problem. The deflection of the ice cover is described by the Bernoulli–Euler equation of a thin elastic plate of constant thickness. At the contact line between the ice cover and the surface of the cylinder, some edge conditions are imposed. In this study, the edge of the ice plate is either clamped to the cylinder or has no contact with the cylinder surface, with the plate edge being free of stresses and shear forces. The water is of finite constant depth, inviscid and incompressible. The problem is solved by both the vertical mode method and using the Weber integral transform in the radial coordinate. Each vertical mode corresponds to a root of the dispersion relation for flexural-gravity waves. It is proved that these two solutions are identical for the clamped edge conditions. This result is non-trivial because the vertical modes are non-orthogonal in a standard sense, they are linearly dependent, the roots of the dispersion relation can be double and even triple, and the set of the modes could be incomplete. A general solution of the wave-cylinder interaction problem is derived by the method of vertical modes and applied to different edge conditions on the contact line. There are three conditions of solvability in this problem. It is shown that these conditions are satisfied for any parameters of the problem.  相似文献

Calculation of the added mass of elliptical cylinders in shallow water   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
In order to carry out any studies of ship motions, concerning either seakeeping or manoeuvring, it is usually necessary to have knowledge of the added mass of the hull section shapes. In deep water, the added mass can be found using conformal mapping techniques combined with residue calculus, or by means of surface singularity distributions. In shallow water, the need to utilise an infinite number of mirror images, to represent the effects of the seabed and the free surface, precludes the use of the deep-water methods in this case. In a previous paper, the author presented methods to evaluate the added mass of semi-circular sections. In this paper, a quite different but more general technique using Schwarz–Christoffel methods is developed. This technique gives entirely new results for the added mass of elliptical body sections and compares the special case of semi-circular sections with those from the previous paper.  相似文献
