To examine and compare historical accumulation of metal(loid)s in Mexican lakes and reservoirs, 210Pb and 137Cs dated sediment cores were evaluated: two from the remote Zempoala and Miramar Lagoons and three from Lake Pátzcuaro, and the Intermedia and Silva dams that are affected by human activities. Sediment ecotoxicology was assessed using consensus-based sediment quality guidelines for freshwater ecosystems. The +100 a sediment core from the remote Miramar Lagoon had the highest concentrations of Cr and Ni these being higher than the Probable Effect Levels (PELs). Zinc concentrations were also higher in the Miramar Lagoon compared to the other lakes and reservoirs, with concentrations higher than the Threshold Effect Level (TEL). Mercury concentrations from this lagoon were comparable to those for the Intermedia dam that receives water from urban, industrial and agricultural areas. The higher metal concentrations in the core from the Miramar Lagoon suggest that metal concentrations in the rocks of the watershed are high. Another explanation for the higher metal concentrations is the slow sediment accumulation that causes metals to be accumulated over longer time-periods at the sediment–water interface. A decrease in the concentration of As in the Intermedia dam was observed in sediments corresponding to the last decades. This may be due to an increase in sediment accumulation rate or to the reduction in sources of this metalloid in the watershed. In the Miramar Lagoon, an increase was observed in concentrations of As and Cr in more recent sediments, probably related to increased deforestation in the area or the eruption of El Chichonal volcano in 1982. Concentrations of Pb showed a decreasing tendency over the past decades in the Lake Pátzcuaro, Miramar and Zempoala Lagoons sediment cores while such behavior was not be observed for the Intermedia dam. This reduction in concentrations of Pb was attributed to the decrease in use of leaded gasoline.  相似文献

Climatic changes and anthropogenic activities could affect nutrients?? status significantly in the different lake ecosystems. Nutrients in Lake Hulun and Lake Taihu, two largest shallow cyanobacteria-blooming lakes in northern and southern China, respectively, were at eutrophicated levels in 2009. The concentrations of total nitrogen and total phosphorus were 3.346 and 2.250?mg/L as well as 0.435 and 0.062?mg/L, respectively, in these two lakes with different causes of eutrophication. For Lake Hulun, it was the decreased amount of water as a result of the warming and drying climate that accounted for the abrupt increase of total nitrogen and total phosphorus levels through inspissation. In addition, the icebound effects, no outflows, low nutrients sequestration by the sediment and the reduction of aquatic productivity made the situation even worse. On the contrary, high population densities, the rapid development of agriculture and industry as well as urbanization have increased the nitrogen and phosphorus loads on Lake Taihu. Therefore, higher criteria of total nitrogen and total phosphorus should be applied in Lake Hulun given the difficulties in controlling climatic changes while much more rigorous standards should be established for Lake Taihu since the anthropogenic impacts on nutrient status are relatively easy to control.  相似文献

The accumulation and mobility of Fe, Mn, Al, Cu, Ni and Pb in the sediments of two lakes (Clearwater, pH 4.5; and McFarlane, pH 7.5) near Sudbury, Ontario have been investigated. The Al, Cu and Ni concentrations are expectedly relatively high in the overlying waters of Clearwater Lake and much lower for Al and Cu in McFarlane Lake. The low trace metal concentrations found in the anoxic porewaters of Clearwater Lake could be explained by a sharp increase in porewater pH concomitant with SO42 reduction and H2S production within the first 1–2 cm of the sediments, which has conceivably led to the precipitation of mineral phases such as AL(OH)3, NiS, and CuS. In both lakes, Fe concentrations in anoxic porewaters appear to be controlled by FeS and/or FeCO3 formation. Solubility calculations also indicate MnCO3 precipitation in McFarlane Lake. In Clearwater Lake, however, both porewater and total Mn were relatively low, a possible result of the continuous loss of Mn(II) through the acidic interface. It is suggested that upwardly decreasing total Mn profiles resulting from the removal of Mn from the top sediment layers under acidic conditions may constitute a reliable symptom of recent lake acidification.The downward diffusion of AI, Cu and Ni from the overlying water to the sediments has been estimated from their concentration gradients at the interface and compared to their total accumulation rates in the sediments. In both lakes the diffusion of Al is negligible compared to its accumulation rate. However, diffusion accounts for 24–52% of the accumulation of Cu in the sediments of Clearwater Lake, but appears negligible in McFarlane Lake. The downward diffusive flux of Ni is important and may explain 76–161% of the estimated Ni accumulation rate in Clearwater Lake, and 59% in McFarlane Lake. The porewater Cu and Ni profiles suggest that the subsurface sedimentary trace metal peaks observed in Clearwater Lake (as in other acid lakes) may not be caused by sediment leaching or by a recent reduction in sedimentation but may have a diagenetic origin instead. Diffusion to the sediments thus appears to be an important and previously overlooked trace metal deposition mechanism, particularly in acid lakes.  相似文献

To understand the geochemical cycle of Hg in hypereutrophic freshwater lake, two sampling campaigns were conducted in Lake Taihu in China during May and September of 2009. The concentrations of unfiltered total Hg (unfTHg) were in the range of 6.8–83 ng L−1 (28 ± 18 ng L−1) in the lake water and total Hg in the sediment was 12–470 ng g−1, both of which are higher than in other background lakes. The concentration of unfTHg in ∼11% of the lake water samples exceeded the second class of the Chinese environmental standards for surface water of 50 ng L−1 (GB 3838-2002), indicating that a high ecological risk is posed by the Hg in Lake Taihu. However, the concentrations of unfiltered total MeHg (unfMeHg) were relatively low in the lake water (0.14 ± 0.05 ng L−1, excluding two samples with 0.81 and 1.0 ng L−1). Lake sediment MeHg varied from 0.2–0.96 ng g−1, with generally low ratios of MeHg/THg of <1%. The low concentrations of TMeHg in the lake water may have resulted from a strong uptake by the high primary productivity and the demethylation of MeHg in oxic conditions. In addition, contrary to the results of previous research conducted in deep-water lakes and reservoirs, the low concentrations of MeHg and low ratio of MeHg/THg in the lake sediment indicates that the net methylation of Hg was not accelerated by the elevated organic matter load created by the eutrophication of Lake Taihu. The results also showed that sediments were a source of THg and MeHg in the water. Higher diffusion fluxes of THg and MeHg may be partly responsible for the higher concentrations of THg in the lake water in May, 2009.  相似文献

To assess the contamination trends and potential bio-availability of sediment-bound heavy metals, concentrations of heavy metals in acid-leaching fraction and in bulk sediments from the two typical bays (the Meiliang Bay and Xuhu Bay) of the Taihu Lake, East China, were studied. Pb and Zn showed elevated concentrations in the sediments from both areas, although sedimentation history and degree of pollution are different between the two bays. In the Meiliang Bay, both Pb and Zn pollutions started in the late 1970’s, the same time as the beginning of eutrophication of the lake, while the in the Xuhu Bay the metal contamination started since recent 10 years. The concentrations of acid-leachable Pb in the sediments from the Meiliang Bay are correlated with the historical eutrophication process. Before the eutrophication and heavy metal pollution, the chemical properties of the lake sediments were the same as the source compositions of the Xiashu loess. Both Pb and Zn in the sediments mainly occur in leachable forms by nitric or hydrochloric acid, whilst most of Cu is in residual fraction. The results indicate that both Pb and Zn may have higher mobility and bioavailability in water and biology than Cu.  相似文献

In this study, the concentrations of seven heavy metals (As, Cd, Cu, Cr, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in the water, sediments, and nine tissues of eight fish species in Chaohu Lake were detected. And the ecological risk of sediments and food safety caused by heavy metals were evaluated. The mean concentrations of metals (As: 8.21, Cd: 0.58, Cu: 2.56, Cr: 0.50, Ni: 26.47, Pb: 3.51, Zn: 23.05 μg/L) in the water were found lower than the threshold values for the first-grade water quality (China environmental quality standards for surface water). The mean concentrations of Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn in the sediments were 41.79, 19.31, 7.61, 7.09, and 102.85 μg/g, respectively, while the concentration of As and Cd was recorded below the detection limit. The ecological risk assessment demonstrated that metals in the sediments posed low ecological risk. The bioaccumulation of metals in fish tissues showed relatively high concentrations in liver, brain, kidney, and intestines while low levels of metals were detected in muscle. A fascinating phenomenon was firstly noticed that all metals highly existed in fish brain and exhibited an especially significant positive correlation with the metal concentrations in sediment, indicating a health risk for Chinese due to their consumption favor of fish head.  相似文献

对武汉市远郊区、城乡结合部和市区三种环境中6个湖泊沉积物和鲢鱼肌肉中的汞污染特征进行了调查采样,采用原子荧光光谱仪进行了汞含量的测定.结果表明:与环境背景值相比,各湖泊沉积物均不同程度地遭受了汞污染,且汞污染表现出由市区向远郊呈减弱的趋势;在沉积柱垂直方向上,市区湖泊表层汞污染严重,向深层汞含量迅速降低,郊区湖泊沉积柱的汞含量基本上变化不大;沉积物中汞的赋存形态研究表明,汞在各湖泊中主要以惰性残渣态形式出现,反映了以飘尘和悬浮物颗粒形式输入为主的特点;湖泊鲢鱼肌肉中汞含量与沉积物中汞含量的变化规律一致,城区湖泊鲢鱼肌肉中的汞含量大大高于郊区湖泊,但鲢鱼肌肉中的汞含量尚未超出国家标准,属安全范围.  相似文献

In the work presented here, a Zr-oxide diffusive gradients in thin films (DGT) was used to monitor the release flux of phosphorus (P), ferrum (Fe), and arsenic (As) in the water–sediment interface of Aibi Lake—a typical shallow lake located in the arid regions of Northwest China. Results showed that: (1) In the water–sediments interface of Aibi Lake, the ranges (average values) of labile As, labile P, and labile Fe levels in DGTs are 3.846–101.840 (43.934) µg L?1, 0.006–0.232 (0.070) mg L?1, and 0.202–52.984 (15.832) mg L?1, respectively. Among 0–20 cm of the vertical profile there was a stable distribution of three elements, while below the interface as 0 cm–(??80) cm there were relatively large changes of these. (2) Fitting analysis showed that there were significant correlations between labile Fe and labile P, and labile As in four DGTs, which showed that in the water–sediments of Aibi Lake, Fe, P, and As are released simultaneously. (3) Combined with former research, we found that the redox of Fe3+ to Fe2+ may cause the release of P and As to the sediments and water body from the former Fe–P and Fe–As; the proportion of P/Fe of four DGTs was all relatively lower than 1, suggesting that the redox of Fe3+ caused the P to be released. (4) This research showed that the concentrations of P, Fe, and As of the water–sediments interface of the lake was obviously lower than that of the water body and sediments of Aibi Lake as well as others of central and eastern China. ZrO-DGT can accurately reflect the distribution of P, Fe, and As of Aibi Lake. These findings can provide initial verification for the use of ZrO-DGT technology in the research of elements at the water–sediment interface in lakes of Xinjiang Province in Northwest China.  相似文献

To examine the biogeochemistry of amino acids (AAs) in the sediment of Lake Taihu, surface sediments (0–3 cm) and deeper sediments (18–21 cm) were collected at 21 sites from different ecotype zones of the lake. AAs were extracted from the sediments, and the total hydrolyzable amino acids (THAA) were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography instrument. The THAA contents in Taihu sediment were much lower than that in marine sediments, ranging from 6.84 to 38.24 μmol g−1 in surface sediments and from 2.91 to 18.75 μmol g−1 in deeper sediments in Taihu, respectively. AAs were a major fraction of the organic matter (OM) and organic nitrogen in Taihu sediments. The AAs on average contributed 8.2% of organic carbon (OC) and 25.0% of total nitrogen (TN) from surface sediments, and 5.9% of OC and 20.5% of TN in deeper sediments, respectively. AA composition provided very useful information about the degradation of OM. Glycine (Gly) and lysine (Lys) were the predominant forms of AAs in the sediments, irrespective of lake regions, followed by alanine, glutamic acid, serine (Ser), and aspartic acid (Asp). The high concentrations of Gly, Lys, and Ser suggested that these forms of AAs were relatively refractory during OM degradation in sediments. The relationship between the Asp/Gly ratio and Ser + Thr [mol%] indicated that OM in surface sediment was relatively fresher than that in deeper sediments. The AAs-based degradation index (DI) gave a similar conclusion. The composition and DI of AAs in surface sediments are markedly different across different zones in Taihu. The percentages of AAs to organic carbon (AA-C%) and total nitrogen (AA-N%) were higher in phytoplankton-dominated zones than those in macrophyte-dominated zones. These results suggest that DI could provide useful information about the degradation of OM in shallow lakes such as Taihu.  相似文献

The biomarker composition and stable isotope (C, O) ratio values of organic matter (OM) and carbonate from sediment cores from the oligotrophic Lake Brienz and the eutrophic Lake Lugano (both in Switzerland) are compared, in order to obtain information about OM sources and transformation processes. Eutrophic conditions at Lake Lugano are reflected in elevated total organic carbon (TOC) content and hydrogen index (HI) values, as well as higher lipid concentrations. Parallel down core trends in δ13C values of TOC and calcite in the Lake Lugano sediments reflect bioproductivity cycles. Variations in δ18O values of calcite are consistent with changes in mean summer temperature over the time interval covered by the core. In contrast, such a correlation does not exist for Lake Brienz and there the stable isotope composition of calcite reflects its allochthonous origin. In the sediments of both lakes, fatty acid (FA) distributions and the composition of n-alkanols and n-alkanes indicate highly variable proportions of autochthonous OM sources (algae, zooplankton, bacteria) and OM from land plants. Enhanced in situ microbial synthesis during sediment deposition in Lake Lugano is suggested by the higher TOC-normalised concentrations of branched chain FAs (C15–C17), hopanoic acids and triterpenoid alcohols (i.e. tetrahymanol, diplopterol). Variations in the concentrations of cholesterol are related to contributions from zooplankton and/or green algae, while sitosterol concentrations reflect the input of vascular plants. Periods of increased input of OM from diatoms are evidenced by high 24-methylcholesta-5,22-dien-3β-ol (either epibrassicasterol or brassicasterol) and/or highly branched isoprenoid (HBI) alkenes concentrations. High relative concentrations of diplopterol in Lake Lugano sediments are consistent with the predominance of cyanobacteria commonly observed in eutrophic lakes. The presence of archeol and hydroxyarcheol in very low concentrations in the Lugano sediments argues for the activity of methanogens and/or anaerobic methanotrophs.Differences in OM degradation processes are reflected in higher chlorin index values in the Brienz sediments but higher saturated vs. unsaturated n-FAs in the core from Lugano. Higher concentrations of branched chain FAs and 16:1ω7 n-FA, as well as enhanced 18:1ω7/18:1ω9 n-FA, are consistent with enhanced bacterial biomass in the Lugano water column or sediments. The preservation of phytol seems to be enhanced in sediments with a high relative contribution of land plant OM. Major factors affecting OM accumulation in the lakes are differences in OM sources (i.e. terrestrial OM vs. autochthonous production), extent of bacterial activity and most likely oxygen availability in the water column.  相似文献

Understanding the contents and reactivity of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) is important for illustrating its productivity contribution in aquatic ecosystem. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the characteristics and algal activity of DON in the sediments of Lake Taihu. A series of experiments were carried out to evaluate the algal bioavailability of DON fractions in the sediments of Lake Taihu, Eastern China. DON extracted in the lake sediments was separated into hydrophilic and hydrophobic forms by DAX-8 resin, and ammonia nitrogen in raw sample and hydrophilic fraction was removed by cation exchange resin. 77.42–109.18% DON recovery rates were obtained after DON fractionation at ZSW and DPG stations. The hydrophilic DON was the main DON form contributing 62.74–76.33% of total DON concentrations. Selenastrum capricornutum was incubated for 15 days with different nitrogen forms (raw sample, hydrophilic and hydrophobic fractions). Approximately 33.69–79.23% DON of the three fractions was available for algal uptake in the incubation. The order of DON bioavailability was ranked as follows: raw sample > hydrophilic fraction > hydrophobic fraction, indicating that hydrophilic fractions and raw samples exhibited higher DON bioavailability for algae. Parallel factor analysis resulted in identification of tryptophan-like proteins, tyrosine-like proteins and humic acid (HA)-like substances during the incubation periods. During the growth phase, the relative fluorescent intensities of tryptophan-like proteins, tyrosine-like substance and HA-like substance accumulated greatly with 24.84–26.38, 27.82–62.73 and 0–28.92%, respectively.  相似文献

通过对太湖地区水域湖泊沉积物中重金属含量的抽样测试,描述了太湖水域重金属(Ag、As、Cd、Cr、Cu、Hg、Ni、Pb、Zn等)元素的污染状及其分布,结果表明:太湖沉积物中重金属含量北部明显高于东部,来自太湖北岸城镇和工业区的未处理工业及生活污水,对太湖北部水域造成的重金属污染程度远高于以养殖业为主的东太湖及湖心水域。  相似文献

对2002年5月采集的西藏错鄂湖和羊卓雍湖的水和沉积物样品进行了实验及分析。结果表明,这2个高原湖泊均不同程度地受到有机氯农药的污染,并具有多种有机氯农药的同时存在、在沉积柱上近表层没有含量下降趋势以及南部的羊卓雍湖污染程度高于藏北的错鄂湖等特点,反映出湖泊中的有机氯农药有可能是随孟加拉湾洋暖流由南向北带人的。两个湖泊的水与沉积物中滴滴涕(DDTs)和六六六(HCHs)含量甚至与我国东部地区的一些淡水水体相近,这种现象很可能表明,大气沉降的有机氯农药可在青藏高原湖泊水体与沉积物中发生一定程度的累积。长远地看,这一过程将可能对青藏高原野生动物产生负面影响。  相似文献

Dissolved trace elements and heavy metals of waters and sediments in the ten shallow lakes in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River region were determined to identify their composition and spatial distribution, and to assess the extent of their environmentally detrimental effects by comparison with water and sediment quality guidelines. Results indicated that As and Pb were the main pollutants in lake waters and Mn and Hg the potential ones, while As, Cu and Pb were the main pollutants in lake sediments. Their spatial distribution indicated that Daye Lake was seriously polluted by metals, which was corroborated by cluster analysis. Higher concentrations of trace elements have been found in lakes downstream of the Yangtze River delta, and higher concentrations of metals have been recorded in sediments of upstream lakes, suggesting that metals in water were more sensitive to anthropogenic activities and that metals in sediment were mainly controlled by minerals. Correlation analyses demonstrated that there were stronger associations among metals in lake sediments than those in lake waters, and their good relationships suggested the common sources. Further research on the subject will help develop water quality management with the aim of restoring shallow lakes in the Yangtze River.  相似文献

沉积物中的Ca/(Fe+Ca)比值和硼含量随水体含盐度的高低而相应增减,它们都是较好的古盐度指标。本文对太湖全新世的沉积物进行了古盐度指标的分析。并与现代湖泊和海洋沉积物作了对比,结果反映东太湖为陆相沉积环境,而西太湖则主要为海相沉积环境。此结论与古生物化石的结论一致,从而证明了太湖地区于全新世期间经历了大规模的海侵,并形成海湾-湖环境。同时也证明了这些古盐度指标是行之有效的。  相似文献

The sediments of City Park Lake (Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA) are characterized by Pb concentrations that exceed the corresponding National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration probable effect level by more than a factor of two and concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, Ni and Zn that exceed the corresponding threshold effect levels. The sediments of the lake are likely to be dredged because of concern over shoaling of the lake. There is concern that exposing these sediments to an oxidizing environment could mobilize toxic metal(loid)s that are effectively sequestered under reducing conditions. To address this concern, mixtures of sediments collected from seven locations in City Park Lake were incubated in microcosms under controlled oxidizing and reducing conditions. The slurries were sampled at time intervals over a period of nearly 750 h, and the dissolved Fe, Mn and trace metal concentrations determined. Eh and pH were negatively correlated, with Eh declining by 600 mV per unit increase in pH. Of the toxic metals, only the concentration of Cu was positively correlated with Eh, apparently because of the sequestration of Cu as a very insoluble sulfide precipitate under low Eh conditions. Precipitation of the other metals as sulfides was evidently insignificant because of the low S content of the sediments. Concentrations of the remaining potentially toxic metals were negatively correlated with Eh, apparently because of their sequestration as oxides and/or adsorption to Fe oxides or oxy-hydroxides. Concentrations of Ca, Mg, and Sr were positively correlated with Eh, presumably because of their sequestration in carbonate precipitates under low Eh/high pH conditions.  相似文献

选择了我国第三大浅水湖泊--太湖及其主要入湖河流进行沉积磷形态的连续提取研究.太湖湖区沉积磷中不稳态磷(LP)及铝结合态磷(Al-P)含量很低,其余形态磷为铁结合态磷(Fe-P)<钙结合态磷(Ca-P)<有机磷(Org-P).河流沉积物中有机磷的相对含量高于湖泊沉积物,绝对含量平均值约为湖泊沉积物的3.9倍,铁结合态磷的绝对含量约为湖泊沉积物的3/4,湖区沉积物Fe-P含量与水体中PO3-4-、Chla呈显著正相关关系,同时与间隙水的氧化性呈显著负相关关系.太湖各湖区沉积物的磷形态表现为空间差异较大,活性组分的差异性要大于活性较差的组分.总的来说北部湖区沉积物中Fe-P和Org-P含量高于其他湖区,这与太湖北部湖区水体高营养级和藻类爆发关系密切.湖区沉积磷的垂直分布规律较复杂,既有随深度增加的,也有随深度降低的,河流沉积物同样如此.这与太湖及河流生态条件、污染物排放以及沉积动力学条件不同有关.  相似文献

利用2001-2002年周年太湖全湖不同湖区湖泊光学的实测资料,分析了太湖水体光学衰减系数的区域分布,季节变化,垂直分布及日变化特征,并阐述了其变化原因,将太湖与国外一些湖泊进行对比,进一步阐述了太湖的光学特征.结果表明:光学衰减系数的湖区分布大致为:河口区>五里湖>湖心区>梅梁湾>贡湖>东太湖;由于不同湖区对光学衰减系数影响的主导因素不一样,其季节变化存在差异,东太湖季节变化不大,湖心区衰减系数秋冬季较大,而梅梁湖区则夏秋较大;衰减系数日变化则表现为中午大,上午和下午小;衰减系数的垂直分布主要有逐渐递减和先递减后均匀2种类型;衰减系数的光谱特性表现为在短波部分较大,长波部分较小,670nm处有一相对高值.  相似文献

本文根据青藏高原东部若尔盖盆地RH孔的全面分析,讨论了青藏高原82.6万年以来的长期气候变化,共划分为23个阶段。基本特征为冷期持续时间要远远超过暖期,内部结构相对比较稳定,而暖期的内部次级波动要频繁得多。通过呼伦湖和固城湖岩芯研究,重建晚冰期以来的气候变化历史,新仙女木事件及全新世几次降温事件在两个湖泊中均有反映。统计了中国东部27个湖泊湖面波动资料,讨论了季风区环境变化的穿时性。  相似文献

This paper presents results from the numerical modelling of the transport of atmospheric noble gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe), tritiated water and 3He produced by radioactive decay of 3H, in unconsolidated lacustrine sediment. Two case studies are discussed: (1) the evolution of 3H and 3He concentrations in the sediment porewater of Lake Zug (Switzerland) from 1953 up to the present; and (2) the response of dissolved atmospheric noble gas concentrations in the sediment porewater of a subtropical lake to an abrupt climatic change that occurred some 10 kyr before the present. (1) Modelled 3H and 3He porewater concentrations are compared with recent data from Lake Zug. An estimate of the effective diffusion coefficients in the sediment porewater is derived using an original approach which is also applicable also to lakes for which the historical 3H and 3He concentrations in the water column are unknown. (2) The air/water partitioning of atmospheric noble gases is sensitive to water temperature and salinity, and thus provides a mechanism by which these environmental variables are recorded in the concentrations of atmospheric noble gases in lakes. We investigate the feasibility of using noble gas concentrations in the porewater of lacustrine sediments as a proxy for palaeoenvironmental conditions in lakes. Numerical modelling shows that heavy noble gases in sediment porewater, because of their comparatively small diffusion coefficients and the strong temperature sensitivity of their equilibrium concentrations, can preserve concentrations corresponding to past lake temperatures over times on the order of 10 kyr. Noble gas analysis of sediment porewaters therefore promises to yield valuable quantitative information on the past environmental states of lakes.  相似文献
