Lead isotope ratios of galena from the carbonate-hosted massive sulphide deposits of Kabwe (Pb-Zn) and Tsumeb (Pb-Zn-Cu) in Zambia and Namibia, respectively, have been measured and found to be homogeneous and characteristic of upper crustal source rocks. Kabwe galena has average isotope ratios of 206/204Pb = 17.997 ± 0.007, 207/204Pb = 15.713 ± 0.010 and 208/204Pb = 38.410 ± 0.033. Tsumeb galena has slightly higher 206/204Pb (18.112 ± 0.035) and slightly lower 207/204Pb (15.674 ± 0.016) and 208/204Pb (38.276 ± 0.073) ratios than Kabwe galena. The isotopic differences are attributed to local differences in the age and composition of the respective source rocks for Kabwe and Tsumeb. The homogeneity of the ore lead in the two epigenetic deposits suggests lead sources of uniform isotopic composition or, alternatively, thorough mixing of lead derived from sources with relatively similar isotopic compositions. Both deposits have relatively high 238U/204Pb ratios of 10.31 and 10.09 for Kabwe and Tsumeb galenas, respectively. These isotope ratios are considered to be typical of the upper continental crust in the Damaran-Lufilian orogenic belt, as also indicated by basement rocks and Cu-Co sulphides in stratiform Katangan metasediments which have a mean μ-value of 10.25 ± 0.12 in the Copperbelt region of Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire). The 232Th/204Pb isotope ratios of 43.08 and 40.42 for Kabwe and Tsumeb suggest Th-enriched source regions with 232Th/235U (κ-values) of 4.18 and 4.01, respectively. Model isotopic ages determined for the Kabwe (680 Ma) and Tsumeb (530 Ma) deposits indicate that the timing of the mineralisation was probably related to phases of orogenic activity associated with the Pan-African Lufilian and Damaran orogenies, respectively. Galena from the carbonate-hosted Kipushi Cu-Pb-Zn massive sulphide deposit in the Congo also has homogeneous lead isotope ratios, but its isotopic composition is comparable to that of the average global lead evolution curve for conformable massive sulphide deposits. The μ (9.84) and κ (3.69) values indicate a significant mantle component, and the isotopic age of the Kipushi deposit (456 Ma) suggests that the emplacement of the mineralisation was related to a post-tectonic phase of igneous activity in the Lufilian belt. The isotope ratios (206/204Pb, 207/204Pb, 208/204Pb) of the three deposits are markedly different from the heterogeneous lead ratios of the Katangan Cu-Co stratiform mineralisation of the Copperbelt as well as those of the volcanogenic Nampundwe massive pyrite deposit in the Zambezi belt which typically define radiogenic linear trends on lead-lead plots. The host-rock dolomite of the Kabwe deposit also has homogeneous lead isotope ratios identical to the ore galena. This observation indicates contamination of the Kabwe Dolomite Formation with ore lead during mineralisation. Received: 8 September 1997 / Accepted: 21 August 1998  相似文献

The Pb contents and 206Pb/207Pb and 208Pb/206Pb isotopic ratios were studied in the soils and wines (2004 harvest) of three vineyard areas of the Czech Republic. The areas differ in their geological basements and anthropogenic loading. The isotopic compositions of wine in areas with intensive industry (Most, North Bohemia 206Pb/207Pbwine = 1.178 ± 0.004) and the agricultural areas of Central Bohemia (Roudnice nad Labem 206Pb/207Pbwine = 1.176 ± 0.007) are similar to the Pb isotopic composition of airborne particulate material typical of polluted and industrial environments (206Pb/207Pb = 1.17–1.19). The isotopic composition of wine from Prague (206Pb/207Pbwine = 1.174 ± 0.003) is different from that of the soil, which was severely contaminated in the past by vehicular Pb (206Pb/207Pbsoil = 1.147–1.168). This fact shows that interception of airborne Pb by plants is greater than its uptake by the root system.  相似文献

U–Pb isotopic analyses indicate that ores from the South Zhuguang uranium ore field, south China, have high common (non‐radiogenic) Pb contents, with variable and relatively radiogenic initial Pb contents. The U–Pb isochron method was used to date these ores, with plots of 208Pb/204Pb and 207Pb/204Pb versus 206Pb/204Pb being used to identify sample suites with similar initial Pb isotopic ratios and to normalize variable initial Pb isotopic ratios. The resulting U–Pb isochrons indicate two substages of uranium mineralization at ~57 and 52 Ma, with a later hydrothermal reformation at ~49 Ma, which homogenized Pb isotopic compositions. Initial Pb isotopic systematics indicate that the ore‐forming fluid was characterized by high 206Pb/204Pb and 207Pb/204Pb ratios and low 208Pb/204Pb ratios, suggesting that the ore‐forming fluid was sourced from Cretaceous–Paleogene red‐bed basins, rather than from magma or the mantle, with consideration of mineralization ages.  相似文献

A collection of galena from the Nezhdaninsky gold deposit (62 samples), as well as galena from the Menkeche silver-base-metal deposit and the Sentyabr occurrence and K-feldspar from intrusive rocks of the Tyry-Dyby ore cluster have been studied using the high-precision (±0.02%) MC-ICP-MS method. Particular ore zones are characterized by relatively narrow variations of isotope ratios (no wider than σ6/4 = 0.26%). Vertical zoning of Pb isotopic composition is not detected. Variation in Pb isotope ratios mainly depends on the type of mineral assemblage. Galena of the gold-sulfide assemblage dominating at the Nezhdaninsky deposit is characterized by the following average isotope ratios: 206Pb/204Pb = 18.472, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.586, and 208Pb/204Pb = 38.605. Galena from the regenerated silver-base-metal assemblage is distinguished by less radiogenic lead isotope ratios: 18.420, 15.575, and 38.518, respectively. In lead from the Nezhdaninsky deposit, the component, whose source is identified as Permian host terrigenous rocks, is predominant. The data points of isotopic composition of lode lead make up a linear trend within the range of μ2 = 9.5-9.6. K-feldspar of granitic rocks has less radiogenic and widely varying lead isotopic composition compared to that of galena. The isotopic data on Pb and Sr constrain the contribution of Late Cretaceous granitic rocks as a source of gold mineralization at the Nezhdaninsky deposit. The matter from the Early Cretaceous fluid-generating magma chamber participated in the ore-forming system of the Nezhdaninsky deposit. The existence of such a chamber is confirmed by the occurrence of Early Cretaceous granitoid intrusions on the flanks of the Nezhdaninsky ore field. The greatest contribution of magmatic lead (~30%) is noted in galena from the silver-base-metal mineral assemblage. This component has isotopic marks characteristic of lower crustal lead: the elevated 208Pb/206Pb ratio relative to the mean crustal value and the lower 207Pb/204Pb ratio. Taken together, they determine a high Th/U ~ 4.0 in the source and μ2 = 9.37–9.50. This conclusion is consistent with the contemporary tectonic model describing evolution of the South Verkhoyansk sector of the Verkhoyansk Foldbelt and the Okhotsk Terrane.  相似文献

Isotope ratios of U and Pb were measured in two types of Mn nodules from the Cambrian Timna Formation, Israel. Type A nodules are mainly composed of pyrolusite and hollandite, with Mn, Ba, Pb and U concentrations of 30–60%, 0.2–2.5%, 0.2–1.0% and 500–3500 ppm, respectively, whereas type B nodules were formed by alteration of the former, and contain mainly coronadite, with Mn, Ba, Pb and U concentrations of 7–48%, 0.2–7%, 0.6–5% and 10–160 ppm, respectively. The isotopic composition of U and Pb was measured by MC-ICP-MS on Mn-rich solutions (up to 100 mg/L) without and with chromatographic separation. The values for the 207/206 and 208/206 ratios have been determined with precisions of up to 50 ppm and those of 206/204, 207/204 and 208/204 – up to 200 ppm. The values for the 234/238 ratios have been determined with precisions of 0.4–1%. The results of the separated and unseparated solutions were shown to be equal within the error. Thus there is no significant matrix effect while measuring U and Pb in Mn rich solution using the MC-ICP-MS.The isotopic composition of Pb and U support the distinction between the two types of Mn nodules. Type A nodules have a wide range of 206Pb/204Pb ratios (18.278–19.776), and an almost constant ratio of 208Pb/204Pb. In contrast, type B nodules have almost constant 206Pb/204Pb ratios and a wide range of 208Pb/204Pb ratios (37.986–38.079). Type A nodules form a linear array on a 207Pb/204Pb vs 206Pb/204Pb diagram, while type B nodules form a tight group characterized by lower Pb isotope ratios that slightly deviate from the type A array. The 234U/238U ratio differs between the two types of nodules; type A nodules exhibit a uniform and close to equilibrium 234U/238U ratio while type B nodules show a wide range of 234U/238U ratios above and below the equilibrium value. The isotopic composition of Pb in type A nodules might reflect Pb contributions from plutonic rock weathering, exposed at the time of deposition or later, to the Cambrian sea. These nodules have remained unaffected by processes that occurred since the Cambrian. The higher 208Pb/204Pb values of type B indicate that these nodules were formed from a Th-enriched solution probably during epigenetic processes which occurred also during the last 1 Ma.Thus the two isotopic systems of U and Pb can record formation, leaching and redeposition of Mn ores.  相似文献

The lead isotopic composition of galenas from low-temperature veins of the Catalonian Coastal Ranges (NE Spain) displays a small but distinct range of values: 18.318 ≤206Pb/204Pb ≤ 18.678; 15.678 ≤207Pb/204Pb ≤ 15.767 and 38.534 ≤ 208Pb/204Pb ≤ 39.189. The data define a linear trend in the 208Pb/204Pb versus 206Pb/204Pb diagram that can be interpreted in terms of mixing of lead from different reservoirs. The lead appears to be derived from a solution that preferentially leached granites of Late-Hercynian age. Sulphur isotopic compositions of the galenas range from −8.5 to + 7.3‰ but variations in a single deposit are small (1–2‰), pointing to different sources of sulphur. In a δ34S versus 206Pb/204Pb plot no clear correlation trends appear. Lead isotope data from deposits of similar characteristics situated within the Hercynian orogenic belt as the Linares-La Carolina district (S Spain) and the Inglesiente-Sulcis area (Sardinia) show slight differences indicating a source area of similar lead isotopic composition. In the CCR and Linares-La Carolina districts, the main source of lead is related to the Hercynian granites of each area, although small contributions from metasediments cannot be ruled out. The contribution of lead from metasedimentary rocks is particularly seen in the Sardinian (Hercynian vein-type) ores. Received: 8 August 1996 / Accepted: 5 December 1996  相似文献

The isotopic compositions of Pb and Sr in Pleistocene basalt, high-silica rhyolite, and andesitic inclusions in rhyolite of the Coso volcanic field indicate that these rocks were derived from different levels of compositionally zoned magmatic systems. The 2 earliest rhyolites probably were tapped from short-lived silicic reservoirs, in contrast to the other 36 rhyolite domes and lava flows which the isotopic data suggest may have been leaked from the top of a single, long-lived magmatic system. Most Coso basalts show isotopic, geochemical, and mineralogic evidence of interaction with crustal rocks, but one analyzed flow has isotopic ratios that may represent mantle values (87Sr/86Sr=0.7036,206Pb/204Pb=19.05,207Pb/204Pb=15.62,208Pb/204Pb= 38.63). The (initial) isotopic composition of typical rhyolite (87Sr/86Sr=0.7053,206Pb/204Pb=19.29,207Pb/204Pb= 15.68,208Pb/204Pb=39.00) is representative of the middle or upper crust. Andesitic inclusions in the rhyolites are evidently samples of hybrid magmas from the silicic/mafic interface in vertically zoned magma reservoirs. Silicic end-member compositions inferred for these mixed magmas, however, are not those of erupted rhyolite but reflect the zonation within the silicic part of the magma reservoir. The compositional contrast at the interface between mafic and silicic parts of these systems apparently was greater for the earlier, smaller reservoirs.  相似文献

The Lovozero alkaline massif—an agpaitic nepheline syenite layered intrusion—is located in the central part of the Kola Peninsula, Russia, and belongs to the Kola ultramafic alkaline and carbonatitic province (KACP) of Devonian age. Associated loparite and eudialyte deposits, which contain immense resources of REE, Nb, Ta, and Zr, constitute a world class mineral district. Previous Sr, Nd, and Hf isotope investigations demonstrated that these rocks and mineral deposits were derived from a depleted mantle source. However, because the Sr, Nd, and Hf abundances in the Kola alkaline rocks are significantly elevated, their isotopic compositions were relatively insensitive to contamination by the underlying crustal rocks through which the intruding magmas passed. Pb occurring in relatively lower abundance in the KACP rocks, by contrast, would have been a more sensitive indicator of an acquired crustal component. Here, we investigate the lead isotopic signature of representative types of Lovozero rocks in order to further characterize their sources. The measured Pb isotopic composition was corrected using the determined U and Th concentrations to the age of the crystallization of the intrusion (376?±?28 Ma, based on a 206Pb/204Pb versus 238U/204Pb isochron and 373?±?9 Ma, from a 208Pb/204Pb versus 232Th/204Pb isochron). Unlike the previously investigated Sr, Nd, and Hf isotopes, the lead isotopic composition plot was well outside the FOZO field. The 206Pb/204Pb values fall within the depleted MORB field, with some rocks having lower 207Pb/204Pb but higher 208Pb/204Pb values. Together with other related carbonatites having both lower and higher 206Pb/204Pb values, the combined KACP rocks form an extended linear array defining either a?~2.5-Ga secondary isochron or a mixing line. The projection of this isotopic array toward the very unradiogenic composition of underlying 2.4–2.5-Ga basaltic rocks of the Matachewan superplume and associated Archean granulite facies country rock provides strong evidence that this old lower crust was the contaminant responsible for the deviation of the Lovozero rocks from a presumed original FOZO lead isotopic composition. Evaluating the presence of such a lower crustal component in the Lovozero rock samples suggests a 5–10% contamination by such rocks. Contamination by upper crustal rock is limited to only a negligible amount.  相似文献

Whole-rock Pb isotopic compositions of the high-pressure (HP) metamorphic rocks, consisting of two-mica albite gneisses and eclogites, and foliated granites from the HP metamorphic unit of the Tongbai-Dabie orogenic belt are firstly reported in this paper. The results show that the tip metamorphic rocks in different parts of this orogenic belt have similar Pb isotopic compositions. The twomica albite gneisses have ^206 pb/^204 Pb=17. 657 -18. 168, ^207pb/^204 Pb=15. 318-15. 573,^ 208Pb/^204ob=38.315-38. 990, and the eclogites have ^206Pb/^204 Pb=17. 599 -18. 310, ^207Pb/^204 Pb=15. 465 -15. 615,^208Pb/^204Pb=37. 968-39. 143. The HP metamorphic rocks are characterized by upper crustal Pb isotopic composition. Although the Pb isotopic composition of the HP metamorphic rocks partly overlaps that of the ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphic rocks, as a whole, the former is higher than the latter. The high radiogenic Pb isotopic composition for the HP metamorphic rocks confirms that the subducted Yangtze continental crust in the Tongbai-Dabie orogenic belt has the chemical structure of increasing radiogenic Pb isotopic composition from lower crust to upper crust. The foliated granites, intruded in the HP metamorphic rocks post the HP/UHP metamorphism, have ^206Pb/^204 Pb=17. 128- 17. 434,^207Pb/^204pb=15. 313-15. 422 and ^208Pb/^204Pb=37. 631-38. 122, which are obviously different from the Pb isotopic compositions of the HP metamorphic rocks but similar to those of the UHP metamorphic rocks and the foliated garnet-bearing granites in the UHP unit. This shows that the foliated granites from the HP and UHP units have common magma source. Combined with the foliated granites having the geochemical characteristics of A-type granites, it is suggested that the magma for the foliated granites in the UHP and HP unit would be derived from the partial melting of the retrometamorphosed UHP metamorphic rocks exhumed into middle to lower crust, and partial magmas were intruded into the HP unit.  相似文献

Lead isotopic composition and uranium and lead concentrations have been determined for galena, sphalerite, pyrite and acetic acid soluble material from the McArthur area in order to test the hypothesis of a dual sulphur source suggested by the sulphur isotope data of Smith and Croxford (Sulphur isotope ratios in the McArthur lead-zinc-silver deposit, Nature Phys. Sci. 245, 10–12 (1973)). Galena, sphalerite and the acetic acid washes from the McArthur deposit have uniform isotopic ratios (206Pb/204Pb, 16.07–16.15; 207Pb/204Pb, 15.37–15.47; 208Pb/204Pb, 35.57–35.89) consistent with other conformable ore deposits, whereas the ratios for pyrite are variable and quite radiogenic (206Pb/204Pb, 16.24–16.49; 207Pb/204Pb, 15.42–15.58; 208Pb/204Pb, 35.82–36.98). Acid washes where dolomite is a major dissolved phase are also radiogenic. The lead in the pyrite appears to have been derived from at least two sources: the less radiogenic lead coming from an exhalative source as for galena and sphalerite and the more radiogenic lead probably being leached from the country rocks. It is proposed that analysis of pyrite for isotopic composition and concentration of lead could be used as an indicator for similar types of deposits in this area.  相似文献

Lead concentration and isotopic composition of prehistoric (middle and latest Jomon era, 2000–4500 BP, n=6), historic (Edo era, 130–400 BP, n=10), and contemporary (died in 1987–88, n=15) Japanese bones, and deciduous teeth from contemporary Japanese children born during 1985–88 (n=17) were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Lead concentration was lowest in Jomon bones and was higher in rural Edo, contemporary, and urban Edo, in that order. Elevated Pb concentration in historic Edo people, as reported previously, was reconfirmed. The average isotopic ratios (207Pb/206Pb and 208Pb/206Pb) in excavated (prehistoric and historic) bones, contemporary bones, and deciduous teeth were different from each other. The contemporary bones had the least radiogenic composition (mean 207Pb/206Pb: 0.879; mean 208Pb/206Pb: 2.126) while the excavated bones the most (0.848; 2.098), and teeth intermediate (0.866; 2.111). The comparison with the literature data of isotopic compositions of environmental samples showed that the isotopic composition of the excavated bones was within the range of Japanese ores, rocks and soils, indicating the absence of foreign Pb sources in preindustrialized Japan. That of the contemporary bones was closer to the average gasoline Pb, the use of which had been banned in the late 1970s, than to the Pb in airborne particulate matter or refuse incineration ash of 1980s. The average Pb isotopic ratios in the deciduous teeth was close to the isotopic ratios of Pb in airborne particulate matter and refuse incineration ash. These data indicated that the contemporary Japanese population was exposed to foreign Pb which had different isotopic composition from domestic Pb. Exposure to Pb of foreign origin was particularly evidently recorded in people born before the leaded gasoline ban. The history of human Pb contamination in Japan is discussed based on the present results and other previously published data.  相似文献

The isotopic composition of Pb in pyrite of the Mindyak orogenic gold deposit located in the Main Ural Fault Zone, the Southern Urals, has been studied by the high-precision MC-ICP-MS method. Orebodies at the deposit are composed of early pyrite and late polysulfide–carbonate–quartz mineral assemblages. The orebodies are localized in olistostrome with carbonaceous clayey-cherty cement. Pyrites from early and late mineral assemblages are close in Pb isotope ratios. For early pyrite 206Pb/204Pb = 18.250–18.336, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.645–15.653, 208Pb/204Pb = 38.179–38.461; while for late pyrite 206Pb/204Pb = 18.102–18.378, 207Pb/204Pb = 15.635–15.646, 208Pb/204Pb = 38.149–38.320. The model parameters μ2 (238U/204Pb = 9.91 ± 2), ω2 (232Th/204Pb = 38.5 ± 4), and 232Th/238U = 3.88 ± 3 indicate that an upper crustal Pb source played a leading role in ore formation. Carbonaceous shale as an olistostrome cement and syngenetic sulfide mineralization are considered to be the main Pb sources of both early and late mineral assemblages. An additional recept in apparently magmatic lead is suggested for the late veinlet mineralization. The involvement of lead from several sources in ore formation is consistent with the genetic model, which assumes a two-stage formation of orebodies at the Mindyak deposit.  相似文献

The paper considers the results of high-precision Pb–Pb isotopic analysis of 120 galena samples from 27 Au and Ag deposits of the South Verkhoyansk Synclinorium (SVS) including large Nezhdaninsky deposit (628.8 t Au). The Pb isotopic composition is analyzed on a MC-ICP-MS NEPTUNE mass-spectrometer from solutions with an error of no more than ±0.02% (2σ). Four types of deposits are studied: (i) stratified vein gold–quartz deposits (type 1) hosted in metamorphosed Upper Carboniferous–Lower Permian terrigenous rocks and formed during accretion of the Okhotsk Block to the North Asian Craton synchronously with dislocation metamorphism and related granitic magmatism; (ii) vein gold–quartz (Nezhdaninsky type) deposits also hosted in Lower Permian metasedimentary rocks; (iii) Au–Bi deposits localized at the contact zones of the Late Cretaceous granitic plutons; and (iv) Sn–Ag polymetallic deposits related to granitic and subvolcanic rocks of the Okhotsk Zone of the SVS. The deposits of types 2, 3, and 4 are postaccretionary. The general range of 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb ratios is 18.1516–18.5903 (2.4%), 15.5175–15.6155 (0.63%), and 38.3010–39.0481 (2.0%), respectively. In 206Pb/204Pb–207Pb/204Pb and 206Pb/204Pb–208Pb/204Pb diagrams, the data points of Pb isotopic compositions of all deposits occupy restricted, partly overlapping areas along a general elongated trend. The various SVS Au–Ag deposits can be classified according to the Pb isotopic composition in accordance with all three Pb ratios. Deposits of the same type show distinct Pb isotopic compositions that strongly exceed the scale of analytical error (±0.02%). The differences in Pb isotopic composition within specific deposits are low and subordinate and have little effect on variations in the Pb isotopic composition of the SVS deposits. The μ2 values (Stacey–Kramers model), which characterize the 238U/204Pb ratios of ore lead sources of the SVS deposits, widely vary from 9.7 to 9.38. The ω2 values (232Th/204Pb) are 39.82–36.61, whereas the Th/U ratios are 4.04–3.86. The content of all three radiogenic Pb isotopes and μ2 values of feldspars from SVS intrusive rocks are strongly distinct from those of galena of stratified gold–quartz and vein gold–quartz deposits and are identical to Pb of galena from Au–Bi and Sn–Ag polymetallic deposits, indicating a mostly magmatic origin for the Pb of these deposits. Detailed isotopic study of the Nezhdaninsky deposit shows different Pb isotopic composition of two consecutive mineral assemblages (gold–sulfide and Ag polymetallic): ~0.30, ~0.07, and ~0.22% for 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb, and 208Pb/204Pb ratios, respectively. These differences are interpreted as a result of involvement of at least two metal sources during the evolution of an ore-forming system: (i) host Lower Permian terrigenous rocks and (ii) a magmatic source similar in Pb isotopic composition to that of Sn–Ag polymetallic deposits. The Pb isotopic composition and μ2 and Th/U values show that lead of stratified gold–quartz deposits combines isotopic tracers of lower and upper crustal sources (Upper Carboniferous–Lower Permian terrigenous rocks), lead of which was mobilized by ore-bearing fluids. The high 208Pb/206Pb ratios and Th/U evolutionary parameter are common to all Pb isotopic composition of all studied Au–Ag deposits and SVS Cretaceous intrusive rocks and indicate that Pb sources were depleted in U relative to Th. Taking into account the structure of the region and conceptions on its evolution, we can suggest that the magma source was related to lower crustal subducted rocks of the Archean (~2.6 Ga) North Asian Craton and the Okhotsk terrane.  相似文献

Southern Ocean aerosols were collected at the Cape Grim Baseline Air Pollution Station from onshore air under baseline conditions between February 1999 and April 2000. Thermal ionization techniques (TIMS) and isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS) were used to measure the isotopic composition and concentration of lead in the air giving concentrations as low as 0.6 ± 0.1 pg · m−3. Air collected under baseline conditions for 12 months (May 1999-April 2000) yielded an overall lead concentration of 11.0 ± 0.2 pg · m−3 and isotopic composition of 206Pb/207Pb = 1.154, 208Pb/207Pb = 2.387 and 206Pb/204Pb = 17.93. The range in isotopic ratios was consistent with the mixing of lead from major population centers in the Southern Hemisphere in the mid to high latitudes, except for the presence of highly radiogenic lead in some samples. Contributions from radiogenic lead of up to ∼0.8% were observed. Three periods with the highest percentage contribution of radiogenic lead (>0.5%) were investigated in more detail, and 4-d back-trajectories and radon concentrations were used to help identify the sources. The sources are probably associated with the mining and processing of uranium rich ores in southern Africa and possibly South Australia.  相似文献

The Pb isotopic compositions of coexisting plagioclase and sulfide from the Bushveld Complex were determined by laser ablation multi-collector ICPMS (LA MC-ICPMS). The samples are of the upper Critical Zone in the northeast corner of the Complex and were collected from drill core and underground mine exposures. All the rocks are fresh and exhibit no evidence for alteration, weathering, or disruption of the Pb isotope systematics subsequent to the initial cooling of the intrusion. Furthermore, individual plagioclase and sulfide crystals do not contain enough U to warrant correction for radiogenic in-growth. For these reasons, the measured Pb isotope ratios approximate the initial ones. For plagioclase, 207Pb/206Pb ranges from 0.98 to 1.02 and 208Pb/206Pb from 2.26 to 2.35. Low 207Pb/206Pb and 208Pb/206Pb ratios characterize grain boundaries and partially annealed microcracks, some of which contain minute fragments of sulfide and other phases, and this accounts for most, if not all, the heterogeneity exhibited by individual samples. Real compositional differences exist, however, in plagioclase from different lithologic layers. For example, plagioclase 207Pb/206Pb values vary from 1.004 in norite beneath the Merensky pyroxenite to 1.009 in the mineralized pyroxenite, and 0.997 in overlying norite. In most samples in which sulfide and plagioclase coexist, the sulfide 207Pb/206Pb ratio is lower and 208Pb/206Pb ratio higher than the corresponding ones in plagioclase. For example, in a mineralized Merensky reef sample, average sulfide 207Pb/206Pb and 208Pb/206Pb ratios are 0.993 and 2.313, respectively, while those in plagioclase are 1.000 and 2.292. In one sample, the sulfide is extremely heterogeneous, with 207Pb/206Pb and 208Pb/206Pb ratios as low as 0.84 and 2.12. In this particular sample, the compositions must represent an isolated occurrence of addition of a young Pb component. The array of sulfide and plagioclase compositions requires multiple sources of Pb at the time of crystallization or soon thereafter. The disequilibrium between plagioclase and sulfide implies that some of the Pb originated from the isotopically distinct country rocks and was introduced at temperatures at which the composition of sulfide but not plagioclase could be modified. Thus, Bushveld sulfide, and to some extent plagioclase, do not reliably record the initial Pb isotopic composition(s) of the parent magma(s).  相似文献

Abstract: The Dajing Cu‐polymetallic ore deposit in Linxi county, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, is economically a valuable Cu–Sn–Ag–Zn–Pb deposit in the southern section of the Da Hinggan metallogenic province. For the analyzed 23 samples of sulfide minerals, including chalcopyrite, pyrite, sphalerite and galena, the δ34S values range from –1.8 to +3.8 % with an average of +0.65 %. The narrow distributions of the δ34S values with +1 % peak value, including the published data, and the δ13C values around –5 % indicate that the sulfur and carbon of the hydrothermal fluids are derived from a hypomagmatic source, and exclude the possibility that the hosted strata, i.e., the Upper Permian Linxi Formation, provided certain amounts of sulfur and carbon. The 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb ratios of sulfide ores range respectively within 18.257‐18.368, 15.476‐15.609, and 37.916‐38.355 with the model ages of 122–209 Ma. The black shale, however, contains higher radiogenic lead with the 206Pb/204Pb ratios of 18.473‐20.156, differing from the ores. However, the 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb ratios of the ore, basaltic porphyrite and feldspar leads are similar, and lie on the same lines in the diagrams of 208Pb/204Pb vs. 206Pb/204Pb and 207Pb/204Pb vs. 206Pb/204Pb. The fact that these mixing lines are composed of the two end members, the mantle and orogenic belt, strongly supports that all the metallogenic elements were carried by the hypomagma mixing the matters of the mantle and orogenic belt prior to the Mesozoic. Therefore, the Dajing ore deposit is a typical mag–matic–hydrothermal vein type ore deposit associated with subvolcanic rocks.

Early Proterozoic volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Rappen district in northern Sweden were deposited at a destructive plate margin to the south of the Archaean craton of the western Baltic Shield. The volcano-sedimentary suite was intruded by two generations of early Proterozoic granites at ca. 1.89–1.85 Ga and ca.1.82–1.78 Ga, respectively, and metamorphosed at upper amphibolite facies conditions. Small stratabound iron, copper, and zinc deposits occur in felsic to mafic tuffs and arkosic sediments. Small deposits of molybdenum, tungsten, and uranium formed during the emplacement of the younger granites. The lead isotopic compositions of sulfide trace lead from the various deposits are highly heterogeneous. In the 206Pb/204Pb–207Pb/204Pb diagram they fall on mixing arrays between little evolved early Proterozoic lead and highly radiogenic Caledonian lead. The least radiogenic lead isotopic compositions from the various deposits have a wide range of 207Pb/204Pb ratios and thus indicate variable involvement of Archaean crustal lead in the Proterozoic deposits. Deposits hosted by siliciclastic rocks have higher 207Pb/204Pb ratios than deposits hosted in mafic to felsic tuffites. The lead isotopic heterogeneity suggests that the lead in the various deposits was locally derived and, furthermore, that the sedimentary rocks in part originated from the Archaean craton to the north. Lead mixing arrays in the 206Pb/204Pb–207Pb/204Pb diagram demonstrate that in Paleozoic time radiogenic lead was mobilized and transported in the basement. Source ages calculated from the mixing arrays (ca.1.9 Ga and ca.1.8 Ga) correspond to the age of the Early Proterozoic volcanism and metamorphism respectively. One group of deposits includes lead from at least three sources and illustrates that radiogenic lead was multiply mobilized and transported in the Proterozoic basement. It occurs in deposits that occur in zones that became permeable during the reactivations of the basement.  相似文献

The Reshian-Lamnian area within the Hazara-Kashmir syntaxis in Pakistan is composed mainly of the rocks of the Salkhala, Panjal and Murree formations. Base metal sulfide mineralization in the form of sphalerite and galena with lesser amounts of chalcopyrite and pyrite is present within the Salkhala Formation of the study area. Chemically all these ore phases are homogeneous in composition. The Pb isotopic composition of galena from the area suggests that there is very little or negligible variation in the ratios of 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb. Modal ages ranging from 509 to 562 Ma and the μ values of 10.71 to 10.93 have been calculated for the studied Pb-Zn mineralization. On the basis of field features, mineralogy and Pb-isotope signatures, it is concluded that the Pb-Zn sulfide mineralization in the Reshian-Lamnia area is pre-Himalayan in age and can be correlated with the Cambro-Ordovician (Pan-African) orogenic event.  相似文献
