Hydraulic conductivity (K) for an alluvial system in a riverbank filtration area in Changwon City, South Korea, has been studied using grain-size distribution, pumping and slug tests, and numerical modeling. The alluvial system is composed of layers: upper fine sand, medium sand, lower fine sand, and a highly conductive sand/gravel layer at the base. The geometric mean of K for the sand/gravel layer (9.89?×?10?4 m s?1), as determined by grain-size analyses, was 3.33 times greater than the geometric mean obtained from pumping tests (2.97?×?10?4 m s?1). The geometric mean of K estimates obtained from slug tests (3.08?×?10?6 m s?1) was one to two orders of magnitude lower than that from pumping tests and grain-size analyses. K estimates derived from a numerical model were compared to those derived from the grain-size methods, slug tests and pumping tests in order to determine the degree of deviation from the numerical model. It is considered that the K estimates determined by the slug tests resemble the uppermost part of the alluvial deposit, whereas the K estimates obtained by grain-size analyses and pumping tests are similar to those from the numerical model for the sand/gravel layer of the riverside alluvial system.  相似文献

The classical aquitard-drainage model COMPAC has been modified to simulate the compaction process of a heterogeneous aquitard consisting of multiple sub-units (Multi-COMPAC). By coupling Multi-COMPAC with the parameter estimation code PEST++, the vertical hydraulic conductivity (K v) and elastic (S ske) and inelastic (S skp) skeletal specific-storage values of each sub-unit can be estimated using observed long-term multi-extensometer and groundwater level data. The approach was first tested through a synthetic case with known parameters. Results of the synthetic case revealed that it was possible to accurately estimate the three parameters for each sub-unit. Next, the methodology was applied to a field site located in Changzhou city, China. Based on the detailed stratigraphic information and extensometer data, the aquitard of interest was subdivided into three sub-units. Parameters K v, S ske and S skp of each sub-unit were estimated simultaneously and then were compared with laboratory results and with bulk values and geologic data from previous studies, demonstrating the reliability of parameter estimates. Estimated S skp values ranged within the magnitude of 10?4 m?1, while K v ranged over 10?10–10?8 m/s, suggesting moderately high heterogeneity of the aquitard. However, the elastic deformation of the third sub-unit, consisting of soft plastic silty clay, is masked by delayed drainage, and the inverse procedure leads to large uncertainty in the S ske estimate for this sub-unit.  相似文献

4He accumulated in fluids is a well established geochemical tracer used to study crustal fluid dynamics. Direct fluid samples are not always collectable; therefore, a method to extract rare gases from matrix fluids of whole rocks by diffusion has been adapted. Helium was measured on matrix fluids extracted from sandstones and mudstones recovered during the San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth (SAFOD) drilling in California, USA. Samples were typically collected as subcores or from drillcore fragments. Helium concentration and isotope ratios were measured 4?C6 times on each sample, and indicate a bulk 4He diffusion coefficient of 3.5?±?1.3?×?10?C8 cm2?s?C1 at 21°C, compared to previously published diffusion coefficients of 1.2?×?10?C18 cm2?s?C1 (21°C) to 3.0?×?10?C15 cm2?s?C1 (150°C) in the sands and clays. Correcting the diffusion coefficient of 4Hewater for matrix porosity (??3%) and tortuosity (??6?C13) produces effective diffusion coefficients of 1?×?10?C8 cm2?s?C1 (21°C) and 1?×?10?C7 (120°C), effectively isolating pore fluid 4He from the 4He contained in the rock matrix. Model calculations indicate that <6% of helium initially dissolved in pore fluids was lost during the sampling process. Complete and quantitative extraction of the pore fluids provide minimum in situ porosity values for sandstones 2.8?±?0.4% (SD, n?=?4) and mudstones 3.1?±?0.8% (SD, n?=?4).  相似文献

MgSiO3 akimotoite is stable relative to majorite-garnet under low-temperature geotherms within steeply or rapidly subducting slabs. Two compositions of Mg–akimotoite were synthesized under similar conditions: Z674 (containing about 550 ppm wt H2O) was synthesized at 22 GPa and 1,500 °C and SH1101 (nominally anhydrous) was synthesized at 22 GPa and 1,250 °C. Crystal structures of both samples differ significantly from previous studies to give slightly smaller Si sites and larger Mg sites. The bulk thermal expansion coefficients of Z674 are (153–839 K) of a 1 = 20(3) × 10?9 K?2 and a 0 = 17(2) × 10?6 K?1, with an average of α 0 = 27.1(6) × 10?6 K?1. Compressibility at ambient temperature of Z674 was measured up to 34.6 GPa at Sector 13 (GSECARS) at Advanced Photon Source Argonne National Laboratory. The second-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of state (BM2 EoS) fitting yields: V 0 = 263.7(2) Å3, K T0 = 217(3) GPa (K′ fixed at 4). The anisotropies of axial thermal expansivities and compressibilities are similar: α a  = 8.2(3) and α c  = 10.68(9) (10?6 K?1); β a  = 11.4(3) and β c  = 15.9(3) (10?4 GPa). Hydration increases both the bulk thermal expansivity and compressibility, but decreases the anisotropy of structural expansion and compression. Complementary Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy shows multiple structural hydration sites. Low-temperature and high-pressure FTIR spectroscopy (15–300 K and 0–28 GPa) confirms that the multiple sites are structurally unique, with zero-pressure intrinsic anharmonic mode parameters between ?1.02 × 10?5 and +1.7 × 10?5 K?1, indicating both weak hydrogen bonds (O–H···O) and strong OH bonding due to long O···O distances.  相似文献

The thermo-elastic behaviour of Be2BO3(OH)0.96F0.04 (i.e. natural hambergite, Z = 8, a = 9.7564(1), b = 12.1980(2), c = 4.4300(1) Å, V = 527.21(1) Å3, space group Pbca) has been investigated up to 7 GPa (at 298 K) and up to 1,100 K (at 0.0001 GPa) by means of in situ single-crystal X-ray diffraction and synchrotron powder diffraction, respectively. No phase transition or anomalous elastic behaviour has been observed within the pressure range investigated. P?V data fitted to a third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation of state give: V 0 = 528.89(4) Å3, K T0 = 67.0(4) GPa and K′ = 5.4(1). The evolution of the lattice parameters with pressure is significantly anisotropic, being: K T0(a):K T0(b):K T0(c) = 1:1.13:3.67. The high-temperature experiment shows evidence of structure breakdown at T > 973 K, with a significant increase in the full-width-at-half-maximum of all the Bragg peaks and an anomalous increase in the background of the diffraction pattern. The diffraction pattern was indexable up to 1,098 K. No new crystalline phase was observed up to 1,270 K. The diffraction data collected at room-T after the high-temperature experiment showed that the crystallinity was irreversibly compromised. The evolution of axial and volume thermal expansion coefficient, α, with T was described by the polynomial function: α(T) = α 0 + α 1 T ?1/2. The refined parameters for Be2BO3(OH)0.96F0.04 are: α 0 = 7.1(1) × 10?5 K?1 and α 1 = ?8.9(2) × 10?4 K ?1/2 for the unit-cell volume, α 0(a) = 1.52(9) × 10?5 K?1 and α 1(a) = ?1.4(2) × 10?4 K ?1/2 for the a-axis, α 0(b) = 4.4(1) × 10?5 K?1 and α 1(b) = ?5.9(3) × 10?4 K ?1/2 for the b-axis, α 0(c) = 1.07(8) × 10?5 K?1 and α 1(c) = ?1.5(2) × 10?4 K ?1/2 for the c-axis. The thermo-elastic anisotropy can be described, at a first approximation, by α 0(a):α 0(b):α 0(c) = 1.42:4.11:1. The main deformation mechanisms in response to the applied temperature, based on Rietveld structure refinement, are discussed.  相似文献

Leaky aquifers provide protected drinking water since the aquifer is overlain by an aquitard, and this study develops a method to estimate hydraulic properties of the latter deposit. Steady pumping, supply well shutdowns, and slug tests generate data in adjacent monitoring well clusters that characterize the aquitard. An existing steady model estimates a site-averaged value of the aquitard permeability k if its thickness is known, and this site-averaged estimate may be compared with local k estimates from conventional and extended slug tests. A shutdown attenuation model estimates a local value of the consolidation coefficient C V, which combines with the local k value to specify the compressibility α of the aquitard. The method is illustrated for the Fowl Meadow Aquifer, a stratified drift deposit used as a drinking water supply in eastern Massachusetts (USA), with an overlying silt aquitard of 10 m thickness. Steady data and theory suggest a site-averaged k of 2.3?×?10–17?m2 for the aquitard, while the shutdown attenuation model generates local C V values that vary from 10–5 to 10–3?m2/s. The slug tests yield a local k variation (10–17–10–13?m2) that brackets the site-averaged value, and an α range of 10–9–10–7?Pa–1.  相似文献

The thermoelastic parameters of synthetic Mn3Al2Si3O12 spessartine garnet were examined in situ at high pressure up to 13 GPa and high temperature up to 1,100 K, by synchrotron radiation energy dispersive X-ray diffraction within a DIA-type multi-anvil press apparatus. The analysis of room temperature data yielded K 0 = 172 ± 4 GPa and K 0  = 5.0 ± 0.9 when V 0,300 is fixed to 1,564.96 Å3. Fitting of PVT data by means of the high-temperature third-order Birch–Murnaghan EoS gives the thermoelastic parameters: K 0 = 171 ± 4 GPa, K 0  = 5.3 ± 0.8, (?K 0,T /?T) P  = ?0.049 ± 0.007 GPa K?1, a 0 = 1.59 ± 0.33 × 10?5 K?1 and b 0 = 2.91 ± 0.69 × 10?8 K?2 (e.g., α 0,300 = 2.46 ± 0.54 × 10?5 K?1). Comparison with thermoelastic properties of other garnet end-members indicated that the compression mechanism of spessartine might be the same as almandine and pyrope but differs from that of grossular. On the other hand, at high temperature, spessartine softens substantially faster than pyrope and grossular. Such softening, which is also reported for almandine, emphasize the importance of the cation in the dodecahedral site on the thermoelastic properties of aluminosilicate garnet.  相似文献

Synchrotron-based in situ angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction experiments were conducted on a natural uvite-dominated tourmaline sample by using an external-heating diamond anvil cell at simultaneously high pressures and temperatures up to 18 GPa and 723 K, respectively. The angle-dispersive X-ray diffraction data reveal no indication of a structural phase transition over the P–T range of the current experiment in this study. The pressure–volume–temperature data were fitted by the high-temperature Birch–Murnaghan equation of state. Isothermal bulk modulus of K 0 = 96.6 (9) GPa, pressure derivative of the bulk modulus of \(K_{0}^{\prime } = 12.5 \;(4)\), thermal expansion coefficient of α 0 = 4.39 (27) × 10?5 K?1 and temperature derivative of the bulk modulus (?K/?T) P  = ?0.009 (6) GPa K?1 were obtained. The axial thermoelastic properties were also obtained with K a0 = 139 (2) GPa, \(K_{a0}^{\prime }\) = 11.5 (7) and α a0 = 1.00 (11) × 10?5 K?1 for the a-axis, and K c0 = 59 (1) GPa, \(K_{c0}^{\prime }\) = 11.4 (5) and α c0 = 2.41 (24) × 10?5 K?1 for the c-axis. Both of axial compression and thermal expansion exhibit large anisotropic behavior. Thermoelastic parameters of tourmaline in this study were also compared with that of the other two ring silicates of beryl and cordierite.  相似文献

Low-flow indices have been determined from long-term daily streamflow data for 13 catchments in Dongjiang Basin in southern China. The Brutsaert-Nieber method was applied to estimate catchment-scale effective groundwater parameters; representative values were 4.5?×?10?4 ms?1 for the hydraulic diffusivity; 3.19?×?10?5 m2 s?1/2 for the hydraulic desorptivity; 2.27?×?10?4 m s?1 for the hydraulic conductivity; and 0.2617 for the drainable porosity. The response constants correlate well with the total stream length and catchment area. Solutions of the linearised Boussinesq equation were used to guide the development of regional multivariate regression models for estimating low-flow indices from the catchment-scale effective parameters. Results showed that these catchments exhibit similar low-flow characteristics. The 7-day lowest average streamflows with return periods of 10 and 2 years (7Q10 and 7Q2) are highly correlated with the catchment-scale response constants. The low-flow ratio Q95/Q50 (ratio of daily streamflow exceeded 95 and 50% of the time, respectively) varied between 0.3 and 0.5, indicating a high proportion of groundwater in the streamflow. The advantage of the regional regression model is its conceptual basis and use of the catchment-scale effective parameters. The method has the potential to be applied to ungauged catchments for estimating low-flow statistics from stream length and catchment area.  相似文献

The phonon dispersions and vibrational density of state (VDoS) of the K2SiSi3O9-wadeite (Wd) have been calculated by the first-principles method using density functional perturbation theory. The vibrational frequencies at the Brillouin zone center are in good correspondence with the Raman and infrared experimental data. The calculated VDoS was then used in conjunction with a quasi-harmonic approximation to compute the isobaric heat capacity (C P ) and vibrational entropy ( $S_{298}^{0}$ ), yielding C P (T) = 469.4(6) ? 2.90(2) × 10 T ?0.5 ? 9.5(2) × 10 T ?2 + 1.36(3) × 10 T ?3 for the T range of 298–1,000 K and $S_{298}^{0}$  = 250.4 J mol?1 K?1. In comparison, these thermodynamic properties were calculated by a second method, the classic Kieffer’s lattice vibrational model. On the basis of the vibrational mode analysis facilitated by the first-principles simulation result, we developed a new Kieffer’s model for the Wd phase. This new Kieffer’s model yielded C P (T) = 475.9(6) ? 3.15(2) × 10 T ?0.5 – 8.8(2) × 10 T ?2 + 1.31(3) × 10 T ?3 for the T range of 298–1,000 K and $S_{298}^{0}$  = 249.5(40) J mol?1 K?1, which are in good agreement both with the results from our first method containing the component of the first-principles calculation and with some calorimetric measurements in the literature.  相似文献

The effect of ion beam irradiations on the elastic properties of hydrous cordierite was investigated by means of Raman and X-ray diffraction experiments. Oriented single crystals were exposed to swift heavy ions (Au, Bi) of various specific energies (10.0–11.1 MeV/u and 80 MeV/u), applying fluences up to 5 × 1013 ions/cm2. The determination of unit-cell constants yields a volume strain of 3.4 × 10?3 up to the maximum fluence, which corresponds to a compression of non-irradiated cordierite at ~480 ± 10 MPa. The unit-cell contraction is anisotropic (e 1 = 1.4 ± 0.1 × 10?3, e 2 = 1.5 ± 0.1 × 10?3, and e 3 = 7 ± 1 × 10?4) with the c-axis to shrink only half as much as the axes within the ab-plane. The lattice elasticity for irradiated cordierite (? = 1 × 1012 ions/cm2) was determined from single-crystal XRD measurements in the diamond anvil cell. The fitted third-order Birch–Murnaghan equation-of-state parameters of irradiated cordierite (V 0 = 1548.41 ± 0.16 Å3, K 0 = 117.1 ± 1.1 GPa, ?K/?P = ?0.6 ± 0.3) reveal a 10–11 % higher compressibility compared to non-irradiated cordierite. While the higher compressibility is attributed to the previously reported irradiation-induced loss of extra-framework H2O, the anomalous elasticity as expressed by elastic softening (β a ?1 , β b ?1 , β c ?1  = 397 ± 9, 395 ± 28, 308 ± 11 GPa, ?(β ?1)/?P = ?4.5 ± 2.7, ?6.6 ± 8.4, ?5.4 ± 3.0) appears to be related to the framework stability and to be independent of the water content in the channels and thus of the ion beam exposure.  相似文献

We have investigated the effect of undercooling and deformation on the evolution of the texture and the crystallization kinetics of remelted basaltic material from Stromboli (pumice from the March 15, 2007 paroxysmal eruption) and Etna (1992 lava flow). Isothermal crystallization experiments were conducted at different degrees of undercooling and different applied strain rate (T = 1,157–1,187 °C and $ \dot{\gamma }_{i} $ γ · i  = 4.26 s?1 for Stromboli; T = 1,131–1,182 °C and $ \dot{\gamma }_{i} $ γ · i  = 0.53 s?1 for Etna). Melt viscosity increased due to the decrease in temperature and the increase in crystal content. The mineralogical assemblage comprises Sp + Plg (dominant) ± Cpx with an overall crystal fraction (?) between 0.06 and 0.27, increasing with undercooling and flow conditions. Both degree of undercooling and deformation rate deeply affect the kinetics of the crystallization process. Plagioclase nucleation incubation time strongly decreases with increasing ΔT and flow, while slow diffusion-limited growth characterizes low ΔT—low deformation rate experiments. Both Stromboli (high strain rate) and Etna (low strain rate) plagioclase growth rates (G) display relative small variations with Stromboli showing higher values (4.8 ± 1.9 × 10?9 m s?1) compared to Etna (2.1 ± 1.6 × 10?9 m s?1). Plagioclase average nucleation rates J continuously increase with undercooling from 1.4 × 106 to 6.7 × 106 m?3 s?1 for Stromboli and from 3.6 × 104 to 4.0 × 106 m?3 s?1 for Etna. The extremely low value of 3.6 × 104 m?3 s?1 recorded at the lowest undercooling experiment for Etna (ΔT = 20 °C) indicates that the crystallization process is growth-dominated and that possible effects of textural coarsening occur. G values obtained in this paper are generally one or two orders of magnitude higher compared to those obtained in the literature for equivalent undercooling conditions. Stirring of the melt, simulating magma flow or convective conditions, facilitates nucleation and growth of crystals via mechanical transportation of matter, resulting in the higher J and G observed. Any modeling pertaining to magma dynamics in the conduit (e.g., ascent rate) and lava flow emplacement (e.g., flow rate, pāhoehoe–‘a‘ā transition) should therefore take the effects of dynamic crystallization into account.  相似文献

Thermal equation of state of an Al-rich phase with Na1.13Mg1.51Al4.47Si1.62O12 composition has been derived from in situ X-ray diffraction experiments using synchrotron radiation and a multianvil apparatus at pressures up to 24 GPa and temperatures up to 1,900 K. The Al-rich phase exhibited a hexagonal symmetry throughout the present pressure–temperature conditions and the refined unit-cell parameters at ambient condition were: a=8.729(1) Å, c=2.7695(5) Å, V 0=182.77(6) Å3 (Z=1; formula weight=420.78 g/mol), yielding the zero-pressure density ρ0=3.823(1) g/cm3 . A least-square fitting of the pressure-volume-temperature data based on Anderson’s pressure scale of gold (Anderson et al. in J Appl Phys 65:1534–543, 1989) to high-temperature Birch-Murnaghan equation of state yielded the isothermal bulk modulus K 0=176(2) GPa, its pressure derivative K 0 =4.9(3), temperature derivative (?K T /?T) P =?0.030(3) GPa K?1 and thermal expansivity α(T)=3.36(6)×10?5+7.2(1.9)×10?9 T, while those values of K 0=181.7(4) GPa, (?K T /?T) P =?0.020(2) GPa K?1 and α(T)=3.28(7)×10?5+3.0(9)×10?9 T were obtained when K 0 was assumed to be 4.0. The estimated bulk density of subducting MORB becomes denser with increasing depth as compared with earlier estimates (Ono et al. in Phys Chem Miner 29:527–531 2002; Vanpeteghem et al. in Phys Earth Planet Inter 138:223–230 2003; Guignot and Andrault in Phys Earth Planet Inter 143–44:107–128 2004), although the difference is insignificant (<0.6%) when the proportions of the hexagonal phase in the MORB compositions (~20%) are taken into account.  相似文献

A numerical groundwater model of the weathered crystalline aquifer of Ursuya (a major water source for the north-western Pyrenees region, south-western France) has been computed based on monitoring of hydrological, hydrodynamic and meteorological parameters over 3 years. The equivalent porous media model was used to simulate groundwater flow in the different layers of the weathered profile: from surface to depth, the weathered layer (5?·?10?8?≤?K?≤?5?·? 10?7 m s?1), the transition layer (7?·?10?8?≤?K?≤?1?·? 10?5 m s?1, the highest values being along major discontinuities), two fissured layers (3.5?·?10?8?≤?K?≤?5?·?? 10?4 m s?1, depending on weathering profile conditions and on the existence of active fractures), and the hard-rock basement simulated with a negligible hydraulic conductivity (K = 1 10 ?9 ). Hydrodynamic properties of these five calculation layers demonstrate both the impact of the weathering degree and of the discontinuities on the groundwater flow. The great agreement between simulated and observed hydraulic conditions allowed for validation of the methodology and its proposed use for application on analogous aquifers. With the aim of long-term management of this strategic aquifer, the model was then used to evaluate the impact of climate change on the groundwater resource. The simulations performed according to the most pessimistic climatic scenario until 2050 show a low sensitivity of the aquifer. The decreasing trend of the natural discharge is estimated at about ?360 m3 y?1 for recharge decreasing at about ?5.6 mm y?1 (0.8 % of annual recharge).  相似文献

The high-pressure response of the cell parameters of calcite, CaCO3, has been investigated by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The unit cell parameters have been refined from 0 to 1.435?GPa, and the linear and volume compressibilities have been measured as β a =2.62(2)?×?10?3?GPa?1,β c =7.94(7)?×?10?3?GPa?1, β v =13.12?×?10?3?GPa?1. The bulk modulus has been obtained from a fit to the Birch-Murnaghan equation of state, giving K 0=73.46?±?0.27?GPa and V 0=367.789 ±?0.004?Å3 with K′=4. Combined with earlier data for magnesite, ankerite and dolomite, these data suggest that K 0 V 0 is a constant for the Ca-Mg rhombohedral carbonates.  相似文献

The heat capacity of natural chamosite (XFe=0.889) and clinochlore (XFe=0.116) were measured by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, microprobe analysis and Mössbauer spectroscopy. DSC measurements between 143 and 623?K were made following the procedure of Bosenick et?al. (1996). The fitted data for natural chamosite (CA) in J?mol?1?K?1 give: C p,CA = 1224.3–10.685?×?103?×?T ??0.5???6.4389?× 106T ??2?+?8.0279?×?108?×?T ??3 and for the natural clinochlore (CE): C p,CE = 1200.5–10.908?×?103T ??0.5?? 5.6941?×?106?×?T ??2?+?7.1166?×?108?×?T ??3. The corrected C p-polynomial for pure end-member chamosite (Fe5Al)[Si3AlO10](OH)8 is C p,CAcor = 1248.3–11.116?× 103?×?T ??0.5???5.1623?×?106?×?T ??2?+?7.1867?×?108×T ??3 and the corrected C p-polynomial for pure end-member clinochlore (Mg5Al)[Si3AlO10](OH)8 is C p,CEcor = 1191.3–10.665?×?103?×?T ??0.5???6.5136?×?106?×?T ??2?+ 7.7206?×?108?×?T ??3. The corrected C p-polynomial for clinochlore is in excellent agreement with that in the internally consistent data sets of Berman (1988) and Holland and Powell (1998). The derived C p-polynomial for chamosite (C p,CAcor) leads to a 4.4% higher heat capacity, at 300?K, compared to that estimated by Holland and Powell (1998) based on a summation method. The corrected C p-polynomial (C p,CAcor) is, however, in excellent agreement with the computed C p-polynomial given by Saccocia and Seyfried (1993), thus supporting the reliability of Berman and Brown's (1985) estimation method of heat capacities.  相似文献

The hydrogeologic and hydraulic characteristics of a lateritic terrain in West Bengal, India, were investigated. Test drilling was conducted at ten sites and grain-size distribution curves (GSDCs) were prepared for 275 geologic samples. Performance evaluation of eight grain-size-analysis (GSA) methods was carried out to estimate the hydraulic conductivity (K) of subsurface formations. Finally, the GSA results were validated against pumping-test data. The GSDCs indicated that shallow aquifer layers are coarser than the deeper aquifer layers (uniformity coefficient 0.19–11.4). Stratigraphy analysis revealed that both shallow and deep aquifers of varying thickness exist at depths 9–40 and 40–79 m, respectively. The mean K estimates by the GSA methods are 3.62–292.86 m/day for shallow aquifer layers and 0.97–209.93 m/day for the deeper aquifer layers, suggesting significant aquifer heterogeneity. Pumping-test data indicated that the deeper aquifers are leaky confined with transmissivity 122.69–693.79 m2/day, storage coefficient 1.01?×?10?7–2.13?×?10?4 and leakance 2.01?×?10?7–34.56?×?10?2 day?1. Although the K values yielded by the GSA methods are generally larger than those obtained from the pumping tests, the Slichter, Harleman and US Bureau Reclamation (USBR) GSA methods yielded reasonable values at most of the sites (1–3 times higher than K estimates by the pumping-test method). In conclusion, more reliable aquifers exist at deeper depths that can be tapped for dependable water supply. GSA methods such as Slichter, Harleman and USBR can be used for the preliminary assessment of K in lateritic terrains in the absence of reliable field methods.  相似文献

A new synchrotron X-ray diffraction study of chromium oxide Cr2O3 (eskolaite) with the corundum-type structure has been carried out in a Kawai-type multi-anvil apparatus to pressure of 15 GPa and temperatures of 1873 K. Fitting the Birch–Murnaghan equation of state (EoS) with the present data up to 15 GPa yielded: bulk modulus (K 0,T0), 206 ± 4 GPa; its pressure derivative K0,T , 4.4 ± 0.8; (?K 0,T /?T) = ?0.037 ± 0.006 GPa K?1; a = 2.98 ± 0.14 × 10?5 K?1 and b = 0.47 ± 0.28 × 10?8 K?2, where α 0,T  = a + bT is the volumetric thermal expansion coefficient. The thermal expansion of Cr2O3 was additionally measured at the high-temperature powder diffraction experiment at ambient pressure and α 0,T0 was determined to be 2.95 × 10?5 K?1. The results indicate that coefficient of the thermal expansion calculated from the EoS appeared to be high-precision because it is consistent with the data obtained at 1 atm. However, our results contradict α 0 value suggested by Rigby et al. (Brit Ceram Trans J 45:137–148, 1946) widely used in many physical and geological databases. Fitting the Mie–Grüneisen–Debye EoS with the present ambient and high-pressure data yielded the following parameters: K 0,T0 = 205 ± 3 GPa, K0,T  = 4.0, Grüneisen parameter (γ 0) = 1.42 ± 0.80, q = 1.82 ± 0.56. The thermoelastic parameters indicate that Cr2O3 undergoes near isotropic compression at room and high temperatures up to 15 GPa. Cr2O3 is shown to be stable in this pressure range and adopts the corundum-type structure. Using obtained thermoelastic parameters, we calculated the reaction boundary of knorringite formation from enstatite and eskolaite. The Clapeyron slope (with \({\text{d}}P/{\text{d}}T = - 0.014\) GPa/K) was found to be consistent with experimental data.  相似文献

Orthorhombic post-perovskite CaPtO3 is isostructural with post-perovskite MgSiO3, a deep-Earth phase stable only above 100 GPa. Energy-dispersive X-ray diffraction data (to 9.4 GPa and 1,024 K) for CaPtO3 have been combined with published isothermal and isobaric measurements to determine its PVT equation of state (EoS). A third-order Birch–Murnaghan EoS was used, with the volumetric thermal expansion coefficient (at atmospheric pressure) represented by α(T) = α0 + α1(T). The fitted parameters had values: isothermal incompressibility, $ K_{{T_{0} }} $  = 168.4(3) GPa; $ K_{{T_{0} }}^{\prime } $  = 4.48(3) (both at 298 K); $ \partial K_{{T_{0} }} /\partial T $  = ?0.032(3) GPa K?1; α0 = 2.32(2) × 10?5 K?1; α1 = 5.7(4) × 10?9 K?2. The volumetric isothermal Anderson–Grüneisen parameter, δ T , is 7.6(7) at 298 K. $ \partial K_{{T_{0} }} /\partial T $ for CaPtO3 is similar to that recently reported for CaIrO3, differing significantly from values found at high pressure for MgSiO3 post-perovskite (?0.0085(11) to ?0.024 GPa K?1). We also report axial PVT EoS of similar form, the first for any post-perovskite. Fitted to the cubes of the axes, these gave $ \partial K_{{aT_{0} }} /\partial T $  = ?0.038(4) GPa K?1; $ \partial K_{{bT_{0} }} /\partial T $  = ?0.021(2) GPa K?1; $ \partial K_{{cT_{0} }} /\partial T $  = ?0.026(5) GPa K?1, with δ T  = 8.9(9), 7.4(7) and 4.6(9) for a, b and c, respectively. Although $ K_{{T_{0} }} $ is lowest for the b-axis, its incompressibility is the least temperature dependent.  相似文献
