While many studies have been conducted in mountainous catchments to examine the impact of climate change on hydrology, the interactions between climate changes and land use components have largely unknown impacts on hydrology in alpine regions. They need to be given special attention in order to devise possible strategies concerning general development in these regions. Thus, the main aim was to examine the impact of land use (i.e. bushland expansion) and climate changes (i.e. increase of temperature) on hydrology by model simulations. For this purpose, the physically based WaSiM‐ETH model was applied to the catchment of Ursern Valley in the central Alps (191 km2) over the period of 1983?2005. Modelling results showed that the reduction of the mean monthly discharge during the summer period is due primarily to the retreat of snow discharge in time and secondarily to the reduction in the glacier surface area together with its retreat in time, rather than the increase in the evapotranspiration due to the expansion of the “green alder” on the expense of grassland. The significant decrease in summer discharge during July, August and September shows a change in the regime from b‐glacio‐nival to nivo‐glacial. These changes are confirmed by the modeling results that attest to a temporal shift in snowmelt and glacier discharge towards earlier in the year: March, April and May for snowmelt and May and June for glacier discharge. It is expected that the yearly total discharge due to the land use changes will be reduced by 0.6% in the near future, whereas, it will be reduced by about 5% if climate change is also taken into account. Abstract

A wave theory based on the non-linear shallow water equations for a two-layer fluid is constructed. The initial value conditions for the equations are the same as for the sudden release of a buoyant fluid. The theory has been tested in a series of experiments of lock-exchange type. The effect of tri-n-butyl tin (TBT) on an intact marine sediment community after five months exposure was investigated. Changes in the structure of macro- and meiofauna communities were determined, as well as the functional diversity of the microbial community using BIOLOG microplates for Gram negative bacteria. Development of tolerance in the microbial community was investigated using Pollution Induced Community Tolerance (PICT) experiments with fluxes of nutrients as effect indicators. TBT affected the structure and recruitment of the macro- and meiofauna at nominal additions of 30-137 micromol TBT/m2 sediment. Number of species, diversity, biomass and community similarity was reduced at these concentrations compared to control. Species that molt seemed to be the most tolerant since they were predominant in boxes that had received the highest TBT addition and echinoderms were the most sensitive species. Renewed addition of TBT in PICT experiments with sediment from each boxcosm showed that TBT had an effect on individual nutrient fluxes from all sediments. Analyses of the flux patterns revealed a memory of previous TBT exposure, either due to induced tolerance or other community conditioning.  相似文献

Cd, Cu, Fe, Ni, Pb and Zn were determined in 123 samples from the Baltic Sea proper. The trace metals were extracted directly on board the vessel, using a dithiocarbamate-Freon procedure. Final analyses of the extracts are performed onshore by atomic absorption spectrometry.Similar trace-metal concentrations are found in different areas of the Baltic proper. Most values fall in the following ranges: Cd, 30–60 ng 1?1; Cu, 0.6–1.0 μg 1?1; Fe, 0.3–0.9 μg 1?1; Ni, 0.6–0.9 μg 1?1; Pb, 0.05–0.2 μg 1?1; and Zn, 1.5–3.5 μg 1?1. The metal-concentrations are generally independent of depth. However, copper exhibits a small but significent decrease in concentration below 80 m.Filtration did not affect trace-metal concentrations, with the exception of iron in waters from lower layers. Similarly, storage under acid conditions was shown to affect only the concentration of iron. An electro-chemical technique was also used to determine Cu in some samples.  相似文献

The friction velocity (u*) and the sensible heat flux density (H) determined with a displaced-beam small aperture scintillometer (DBSAS) and a hot-film eddy correlation system are compared. Random errors in the DBSAS are relatively small, compared to scatter found with two eddy-correlation systems. Assuming that the hot-film system yields the true fluxes, theDBSAS appears to overestimate u* when u* is less than 0.2 m s-1 and to underestimate u* at high wind speeds. This implies that the DBSAS measurements of theinner scale length of turbulence, l0, a direct measure for the dissipation rate of kinetic turbulent energy, are biased. Possible causes for these results are discussedin detail. A correction procedure is presented to account for effects of random noise and of so-called inactive turbulence or sensor vibrations. The errors in u* cause errors in the DBSAS measurements of the structure parameter of temperature CT 2. The derived H appears to be less sensitive to errors in l0 and CT 2, because errors in these quantities tend to cancel out.  相似文献

Organic carbon, sulphur, 13Corg, iron, manganese and calcium have been measured across a subsurface-weathering front in Pliocene sediments in southern Sicily. The results show an almost quantitative removal of Corg and sulphur and an increase in iron and manganese oxides over the weathering front, accompanied with a significant shift of the 13Corg to lower values. These data are among the first to support the rapid, extensive weathering of sedimentary organic matter and sulphur, a basic assumption made in global biogeochemical models on a Phanerozoic timescale.  相似文献

Field concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in sediment and nine marine soft bottom invertebrate species. Lipid- and organic carbon normalised biota-sediment accumulation factors (BSAFs) were determined for 29 nonplanar and 11 coplanar congeners. To investigate whether the bioaccumulation was in thermodynamic equilibrium with the sediment, the determined BSAFs were compared to theoretically calculated ones to obtain a BSAFdet./BSAFtheor-ratio. Large interspecific variations were found: one suspension feeding and one deposit feeding species of brittle stars (Amphiura filiformis and A. chiajei), and one predatory polychaete (Glycera rouxii) had ratios>1 for congeners with logKow>6.5. In these species there was also a linear relationship between logKow and BSAF, both for coplanar and for planar congeners but with lower values for coplanar ones. For other species the pattern was more scattered. Only the deposit feeding polychaete Melinna cristata had BSAFdet./BSAFtheor-ratios<1 for all congeners. Thus, the interspecific variations in bioaccumulation did not correlate with differences in feeding strategies, but may be caused by differences in biotransformation, and in age and size of the analysed specimens.  相似文献

Pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) fluorometry is ideally suited to measure the sub-lethal impacts of photosystem II (PSII)-inhibiting herbicides on microalgae, but key relationships between effective quantum yield [Y(II)] and the traditional endpoints growth rate (mu) and biomass increase are unknown. The effects of three PSII-inhibiting herbicides; diuron, hexazinone and atrazine, were examined on two tropical benthic microalgae; Navicula sp. (Heterokontophyta) and Nephroselmis pyriformis (Chlorophyta). The relationships between Y(II), mu and biomass increase were consistent (r(2)0.90) and linear (1:1), validating the utility of PAM fluorometry as a rapid and reliable technique to measure sub-lethal toxicity thresholds of PSII-inhibiting herbicides in these microalgae. The order of toxicity (EC(50) range) was: diuron (16-33nM)>hexazinone (25-110nM)>atrazine (130-620nm) for both algal species. Growth rate and photosynthesis were affected at diuron concentrations that have been detected in coastal areas of the Great Barrier Reef.  相似文献
