This paper is a review of applications of density functional theory (DFT) in compositional hydrodynamics. The basic idea is representation of the entropy or the Helmholtz energy of the mixture as the functional depending on the molar densities of chemical components (density functional). The hydrodynamics is governed by local conservation laws of chemical components, momentum, and energy, while constitutive relations and boundary conditions are introduced in accordance with the explicit form of the density functional. The general ideas and the history of the DFT in compositional hydrodynamics are discussed. Then the DFT for multiphase multicomponent mixtures is presented including the exposition of the first principles, governing equations and constitutive relations, and explicit expressions of density functional depending on physical situation. The DFT-based numerical simulator is described, and several multiphase simulation results are presented to illustrate the scope and effectiveness of DFT: sessile drop with and without surfactant, droplet breakup in shear flow, and three-phase hydrodynamics with mobile solid phase. Also, two practical scenarios with multiphase simulations in micro-CT porous rock models are presented: two-phase immiscible water-oil flow and three-phase water-gas-condensate flow with phase transitions. All numerical results are obtained by essentially the same code; both the number of chemical components and the Helmholtz energy have been set up in accordance with physical situation. 相似文献

Urban microclimate peculiarities in two Arctic cities in northwestern Russia—Kirovsk (67.62°N, 33.67°E) and Apatity (67.57°N, 33.38°E)—were investigated by using mobile temperature records. The experiment was carried out in and around Apatity and Kirovsk in February 2014 and December 2016. The DS18B20 digital thermometer was installed on the roof of a car (height: approximately 1.2 m) to measure and record temperature variations automatically. In addition to the digital thermometer, the car was also equipped with an onboard global positioning system, allowing every temperature measurement to be referenced with an altitude and a latitude/longitude position. The possibility of urban heat island formation in these polar cities, above the Arctic Circle, was studied. Our analysis indicated that on 11 February 2014, the temperature varied in accordance with the background environmental lapse rate (–0.0045°C m–1), and nearly corresponded to it (–0.0165°C m–1) on 12 February 2014. On 6 December 2016, a strong local temperature inversion with a positive value of 0.032°C m–1 was detected, seemingly caused by the formation of a cold air pool in the valley near Kirovsk. It was found that the temperature variations within and outside these cities are strongly influenced by local topographic effects and the physical conditions of the atmospheric boundary layer. 相似文献

The impact of GOCE Satellite Gravity Gradiometer data on gravity field models was tested. All models were constructed with the same Laser Geodynamics Satellite (LAGEOS) and Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) data, which were combined with one or two of the diagonal gravity gradient components for the entire GOCE mission (November 2009 to October 2013). The Stokes coefficients were estimated by solving large normal equation (NE) systems (i.e., the direct numerical approach). The models were evaluated through comparisons with the European Space Agency's (ESA) gravity field model DIR-R5, by GPS/Leveling, GOCE orbit determination, and geostrophic current evaluations. Among the single gradient models, only the model constructed with the vertical ZZ gradients gave good results that were in agreement with the formal errors. The model based only on XX gradients is the least accurate. The orbit results for all models are very close and confirm this finding. All models constructed with two diagonal gradient components are more accurate than the ZZ-only model due to doubling the amount of data and having two complementary observation directions. This translates also to a slower increase of model errors with spatial resolution. The different evaluation methods cannot unambiguously identify the most accurate two-component model. They do not always agree, emphasizing the importance of evaluating models using many different methods. The XZ gravity gradient gives a small positive contribution to model accuracy. 相似文献

Observational data of the solar diameter in Italy during 1876–1937 and in Greenwich during 1851–1937 were analyzed. The Whittaker operator with different smoothing coefficients was used. Assessments of the molecular and isotopic composition of hydrate-bound and dissolved gases in pore water were conducted during the multi-phase gas hydrate project (MHP-09) cruise VER09-03 to the southern basin of Lake Baikal in September 2009. To avoid changes in gas composition during core sampling and transport, various headspace methods were investigated aimed at preserving the dissolved gases in pore water. When distilled water was added to the sediment samples, the concentrations of carbon dioxide and oxygen decreased because of dissolution into the water and/or microbial consumption. When the headspace was not flushed with inert gases, trace levels of hydrogen and ethylene were detected. The findings suggest that best preparation is achieved by flushing the headspace with helium, and adding a saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride. This improved headspace method served to examine the molecular and isotopic compositions of gas samples retrieved at several new sites in the southern basin. Methane was the major component, and the proportion of ethane ranged widely from 0.0009 to 1.67?mol% of the total hydrocarbon gases. The proportions of propane and higher hydrocarbons were small or less than their detection limits. The carbon isotope signatures suggest that microbial-sourced methane and ethane were dominant in the Peschanka study area, whereas ethane was of thermogenic origin at all other study sites in the southern basin of Lake Baikal. 相似文献

This paper presents a rigorous, yet practical, method of multigrid data assimilation into regional structured-grid tidal models. The new inverse tidal nesting scheme, with nesting across multiple grids, is designed to provide a fit of the tidal dynamics to data in areas with highly complex bathymetry and coastline geometry. In these areas, computational constraints make it impractical to fully resolve local topographic and coastal features around all of the observation sites in a stand-alone computation. The proposed strategy consists of increasing the model resolution in multiple limited area domains around the observation locations where a representativeness error is detected in order to improve the representation of the measurements with respect to the dynamics. Multiple high-resolution nested domains are set up and data assimilation is carried out using these embedded nested computations. Every nested domain is coupled to the outer domain through the open boundary conditions (OBCs). Data inversion is carried out in a control space of the outer domain model. A level of generality is retained throughout the presentation with respect to the choice of the control space; however, a specific example of using the outer domain OBCs as the control space is provided, with other sensible choices discussed. In the forward scheme, the computations in the nested domains do not affect the solution in the outer domain. The subsequent inverse computations utilize the observation-minus-model residuals of the forward computations across these multiple nested domains in order to obtain the optimal values of parameters in the control space of the outer domain model. The inversion is carried out by propagating the uncertainty from the control space to model tidal fields at observation locations in the outer and in the nested domains using efficient low-rank error covariance representations. Subsequently, an analysis increment in the control space of the outer domain model is computed and the multigrid system is steered optimally towards observations while preserving a perfect dynamical balance. The infragravity (IG) period oscillations inside an elongated rectangular harbor near the offshore fringing reef induced by normal-incident bichromatic short wave groups are simulated using a fully nonlinear Boussinesq model, FUNWAVE 2.0. Based on an IG wave separation procedure, this article presents a systematical investigation on how the maximum IG period component amplitude, the bound and free IG waves, and their relative components inside the harbor change with respect to the plane reef-face slope and the incident short wave amplitude under the condition of the 2nd to the 5th modes. For the given harbor and the ranges of the reef-face slope and the incident short wave amplitude studied in this paper, it is shown that both the maximum IG period component amplitude and the free IG wave component amplitude inside the harbor fluctuate widely with the reef-face slope, and their changing trends with the reef-face slope are almost identical with each other, while the bound IG waves inside the harbor seem insensitive to it. Both the maximum IG period component amplitude and those of the bound and free IG standing waves inside the harbor change cubically with the incident short wave amplitude. 相似文献
