Precipitation and evaporation budgets over the Baltic Sea were studied in a concerted project called PEP in BALTEX (Pilot study of Evaporation and Precipitation in the Baltic Sea), combining extensive field measurements and modelling efforts. Eddy-correlation-measurements of turbulent heat flux were made on a semi-continuous basis for a 12 month period at four well-exposed coastal sites in the Baltic Proper (the main basin of the Baltic Sea). Precipitation was measured at land-based sites with standard gauges and on four merchant ships travelling between Germany and Finland with the aid of specially designed ship rain gauges (SRGs). The evaporation and precipitation regime of the Baltic Sea was modelled for a 12 month period by applying a wide range of numerical models: the operational atmospheric High Resolution Limited Area Model (HIRLAM, Swedish and Finnish versions), the German atmospheric REgional-scale MOdel, REMO, the operational German Europe Model (only precipitation), the oceanographic model PROBE-Baltic, and two models that use interpolation of ground-based data, the Swedish MESAN model of SMHI and a German model of IFM-GEOMAR Kiel. Modelled precipitation was compared with SRG measurements on board the ships. A reasonable correlation was obtained, but the regional-scale models and MESAN gave some 20% higher precipitation over the sea than is measured. Bulk parameterisation schemes for evaporation were evaluated against measurements. A constant value of CHN and CEN with wind speed, underestimated large fluxes of both sensible and latent heat flux. The limited area models do not resolve the influence of the height of the marine boundary layer in coastal zones and the entrainment (on the surface fluxes), which may explain the observed low correlations between modelled and measured latent heat fluxes. Estimates of evaporation, E, and precipitation, P, for the entire Baltic Proper were made with several models for a 12 month period. While the annual variation was well represented by all predictions, there are still important differences in the annual means. Evaporation ranges from 509 to 625 mm year-1 and precipitation between 624 and 805 mm year-1 for this particular 12 month period. Taking the results of model verification from the present study into account, the best estimate of P-E is about 100 ± 50 mm for this particular 12 month period. But the annual mean of P-E varies considerably from year to year. This is reflected in simulations with the PROBE-Baltic model for an 18 year period, which gave 95 mm year-1 for the 12 month period studied here and 32 mm year-1 as an average for 18 years. 相似文献

Evaporation of solid materials under low-pressure conditions could play important roles in chemical and isotopic fractionations in the early solar system. We have studied anisotropy of isotopic fractionation of 26Mg and 25Mg during kinetic evaporation of forsterite (Mg2SiO4), which is potentially a powerful tool to understand thermal histories of crystals in the early solar system. Ion-microprobe depth profiling revealed that the Mg isotopic zoning profiles of forsterite evaporated at 1500-1700 °C are notably differing along the a-, b-, and c-axes, which can be attributed to anisotropy in self-diffusion coefficient of Mg (D) and an isotopic fractionation factor for evaporation of Mg (α). The D and α were obtained from zoning profiles by applying the diffusion-controlled isotopic fractionation model of Wang et al. [1999. The activation energy of 560-670 kJ/mol indicates that Mg diffusion at 1500-1700 °C occurred in the intrinsic diffusion regime.The α seems to be larger along the a- or c-axes than along the b-axis. The α along the a- or c-axes show weak temperature dependence. The α along all the crystallographic orientations is closer to unity than that expected from the kinetic theory of gases. The objective of this study is to understand and predict the alteration of porous rock by crystallization of salts. Samples
of different rocks have been tested according to the EN 12370 standard test. Two parameters are proposed to evaluate the alteration
of a rock during these tests. The alteration index AI represents the cycle in which the first damages occur. The alteration
velocity AV represents the alteration rate at the end of the experiment, when the decay has become regular. These parameters
can be estimated with the help of a microstructural study of the rocks. The most relevant intrinsic parameters of the stones
for this estimation are capillary coefficient, evaporation coefficient, tensile strength and P-waves velocity. An evaluation
of the alteration pattern is also proposed depending on the eventual heterogeneities and anisotropies of the rocks. The influence

This work addresses hydrogeochemical processes in shallow aquifers, represented by the Quaternary alluvial deposits, from a part of the semi-arid Mexican Highlands through the evaluations of physicochemical parameters as well as the δ18O and δ2H compositions of groundwater. Mifflin diagram separates the Na-bicarbonate, sulphate and mixed groundwater into one group showing interactions with volcanic lithology in the recharge zones and another group interacting with the evaporite rich sedimentary formation. In the Gibbs diagram, the samples with Cl?/(Cl? + HCO3?) < 0.4 showed higher influence of ion exchange and the samples with Cl?/(Cl? + HCO3?) > 0.4 showed higher effects of evaporation. All of them were oversaturated with carbonate minerals (i.e., calcite and dolomite) and unsaturated with evaporites (i.e., gypsum and halite). Evaporation (earlier stage) occurred before the water-rock interactions (later stage). Evolution occurs through three different routes such as up to 7.5‰ enrichment in δ18O caused by the infiltration with a certain delay and subsequently, the water-rock interaction became dominant. Ternary mixing models revealed dominant influence of local recharge (C1) on the water system, contributing 70.4%. Water-rock interaction (C3) with 18% and evaporation (C2) with 11.6% had comparatively less influences. The presence of nitrate (2–60 mg/L) in the groundwater indicated variable degrees of anthropogenic pollution. 相似文献

Evaporation, as a major component of the hydrologic cycle, plays a key role in water resources development and management in arid and semi-arid climatic regions. Although there are empirical formulas available, their performances are not all satisfactory due to the complicated nature of the evaporation process and the data availability. This paper explores evaporation estimation methods based on artificial neural networks (ANN) and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) techniques. It has been found that ANN and ANFIS techniques have much better performances than the empirical formulas (for the test data set, ANN R2 = 0.97, ANFIS R2 = 0.92 and Marciano R2 = 0.54). Between ANN and ANFIS, ANN model is slightly better albeit the difference is small. Although ANN and ANFIS techniques seem to be powerful, their data input selection process is quite complicated. In this research, the Gamma test (GT) has been used to tackle the problem of the best input data combination and how many data points should be used in the model calibration. More studies are needed to gain wider experience about this data selection tool and how it could be used in assessing the validation data. 相似文献

Although known as ‘islands of fertility’ or ‘resource islands’, information regarding the effect of shrubs upon microclimate in deserts is scarce. Here we report on measurements of evaporation and temperatures that were carried out in and around a pair of shrubs at the Nizzana research site in the western Negev Desert during 1993–94 and during the growing season (November–March) of 1994–95 and 1996–1997. Whereas evaporation was measured monthly using mini‐atmometers (10 cm diameter and 10 cm tall) at an exposed site and under and around the shrub (at the eastern, southern, western and northern aspects), temperature was measured under a shrub canopy, at its northern aspect, and at an exposed habitat. Evaporation was aspect dependent with increasing rates in the following order: exposed > south‐facing > west‐facing ≈ east‐facing > north‐facing > under canopy. Except from the northern aspect, the under‐canopy habitat showed substantially lower rates of evaporation in comparison with all other habitats. The differences between the under‐canopy and the exposed habitat were larger during wintertime (with the under‐canopy habitat having 0·53 times the evaporation rate than that of the exposed habitat) although higher differences in temperatures characterized both habitats in summertime (up to 14·4 °C in summer as compared with 6·9 °C only in winter). The results were explained by extended surface wetness that characterized the under‐canopy habitat following rainstorms. While already being dried out at the exposed habitat, surface wetness at the under canopy habitat persisted for several days afterwards, resulting, following one rainstorm, in vapour pressure of 2·15–2·39 kPa in comparison with only 0·82–0·83 kPa of the exposed habitat. The substantially lower evaporation rates that characterize the under‐canopy habitat may thus play a pivotal role in providing preferential conditions for lush under‐canopy annual growth. This paper presents a numerical study on the desiccation cracking process of clayey soil. The initiation and propagation of cracks were investigated using finite element code, including the damage-elastic cohesive fracture law to describe the behaviour of cracks. The coupling between the hydraulic behaviour (moisture transfer in the soil matrix and in the cracks) and the mechanical behaviour (volume change of the soil matrix and development of cracks) were also considered. The results of a laboratory experiment performed on clay soil, taken from a literature review, were used to evaluate the numerical modelling. The results show that the code can reproduce the main trends observed in the experiment (e.g., shrinkage related to drying, crack development). In addition, the numerical simulation enables the identification of other phenomena, such as the evolution of suction and stress related to drying and the development of a single crack.
