A low-temperature diffuse flow site associated with abundant vent fauna was found by submersible observations on the southern East Pacific Rise at 17°25′ S in 1997. This site was characterized by thin sediment covered pillow and sheet lavas with collapsed pits up to ∼15 m in diameter. There were three warm water vents (temperature: 6.5 to 10.5 °C) within the site above which the vented fluids rise as plumes. To estimate heat flux of the warm water vents, a temperature logger array was deployed and the vertical temperature distribution in the water column up to 38 m above the seafloor was monitored. A stationary deep seafloor observatory system was also deployed to monitor hydrothermal activity in this site. The temperature logger array measured temperature anomalies, while the plumes from the vents passed through the array. Because the temperature anomalies were measured in only specific current directions, we identified one of the vents as the source. Heat flux from the vent was estimated by applying a plume model in crossflow in a density-stratified environment. The average heat flux from September 13 to October 18, 1997 was 39 MW. This heat flux is as same order as those of high-temperature black smokers, indicating that a large volume flux was discharged from the vent (1.9 m3/s). Previous observations found many similar warm water flow vents along the spreading axis between 17°20′ S–30′ S. The total heat flux was estimated to be at least a few hundred mega-watts. This venting style would contribute to form effluent hydrothermal plumes extended above the spreading axis.  相似文献

通过欧拉角的变换把拖曳线列阵微元段矢量动力平衡方程在局部坐标系下展开,在时间和空间上作中心差分数值离散平衡方程。将尾绳阻力作为线列阵尾端点的张力,改善因尾端张力为零引起的差分方程奇异性。取有关文献资料中的两个拖曳线列阵进行了拖点振荡响应计算,计算结果与相应文献资料中线性理论的计算和试验结果基本吻合。最后由仿真计算讨论了拖曳线列阵参数变化对拖点垂向和横向的谐振稳态响应特性。计算结果表明影响拖曳线列阵振荡响应的主要参数是由拖缆长度、拖点航速和拖点振荡因频率构成的无因次振荡频率。  相似文献

The Alaskan Stream is the westward boundary current of the North Pacific subarctic gyre. In the central region of the North Pacific, the Alaskan Stream serves as a connection between the Alaskan gyre, Western subarctic gyre and Bering Sea gyre. Its volume transport is very important in estimating the magnitude of the subarctic circulation in the North Pacific. In order to clarify its seasonal and interannual variation, we conducted observations along a north-south section at 180° during June from 1990 to 1997. Moorings were deployed from 1995 to 1997. Hydrographic casts were made at intervals of 37 km to a depth of 3000 m. Moorings were set between CTD stations, with Moor1 (Moor2) at the center (southern edge) of the Alaskan Stream. Geostrophic volume transport (referred to 3000 m) revealed large interannual variability in the Alaskan Stream. Average volume transport over the 8 years was 27.5 × 106 m3s-1 with a standard deviation of 6.5 × 106 m3s-1. Maximum transport was 41.0 × 106 m3s-1 (1997) and minimum was 21.7 × 106 m3s-1 (1995). Stable westward flows were observed at Moor1 1500 m (259°, 11.7 cm s-1) and 3000 m (240°, 3.7 cm s-1, 1996–1997 year average). The ratio of eddy to mean kinetic energy (KE/ ) was very small (<0.6) throughout the year. A relatively weak and unstable westward flow was observed at Moor2 at 3000 m depth. Conversely, the average flow direction at Moor2 5000 m was eastward.  相似文献

Abstract. Living, symbiont-bearing, larger foraminiferids restricted to the photic zone incorporate mechanisms blocking solar radiation and water current transportation. They can be divided in two groups according to their wall structure: 1, Families with opaque test walls, reducing light penetration: Peneroplids inhabit shallow-water environments from the intertidal ( Peneroplis in large numbers) down to 40 m ( Dendritina , preferring sandy substrates). Soritids are restricted to subtidal environments with less water turbulence and range from the reef moat down to 60 m. Amphisorus and Marginopora are common down to 30 m, whereas Parasorites is restricted to deeper parts of the reef slope. Alveolinella can be found in the upper 40 m of the reef slope. 2. Families with hyaline test walls, adjusted for light penetration: amphisteginids inhabit the whole photic zone, demonstrating a correlation of test flattening with increasing depth. Calcarinids cling with their spines to firm substrates such as algal thalli or macroids. Baculogypsina is restricted to high energetic regions on the reef flat. Calcarina inhabits similar environments, extending its distribution range within fore reefs down to 80 m. Baculogypsinoides is a dominant calcarinid genus from 30 to 70 m depth. Within nummulitids, Heterostegina prefers hard substrates on the reef slope, while Assilina (= Operculina ) is frequent in deeper parts and is independent of substrates. Sandy bottoms from 30 to 60 m are inhabited by the last living representative of the genus Nummulites, N. venosus . The giant foraminifer Cycloclypeus , with test sizes up to 7 cm, is restricted to fore reef areas below 50 m down to the base of the photic zone.  相似文献

We propose and validate a linear regression model which enables us to predict the summer (June–August) mean of the monthly 90th percentile of significant wave heights (H90) in the western North Pacific (WNP). The most prevailing interannual variability of H90 is identified by applying an Empirical Orthogonal Function analysis to H90 obtained from the ERA-40 wave reanalysis as well as from the optimally interpolated TOPEX/Poseidon (OITP) wave data. It is found that the increase of H90 is correlated with cyclonic circulation in the WNP which links with warm SST anomalies in the Niño-3.4 region. We adopt zonal wind anomaly averaged over the region 5°N–15°N, 130°E–160°E (U10N) as a predictor of the first principal component (PC1) of H90, since U10N is closely correlated with the PC1 of H90. It is revealed that regression models obtained from two different wave datasets are nearly identical. The predictability of the regression model is assessed in terms of the reduction of the root-mean-square (rms) errors between H90 and the reconstructed data. The predictor is found to be successful in reducing the rms errors by up to 40% for the ERA-40 wave reanalysis and by up to 70% for the OITP wave data within the latitudinal band 10°N–25°N, though rms errors exceeding 0.3 m still remain, particularly in the East China Sea.  相似文献

利用解剖法采集太平洋牡蛎精液 ,用自然海水做基础溶液 ,配制不同浓度的 DMSO(二甲亚砜 )作为超低温保护剂 ,在液氮 (L N2 )面上不同高度进行预处理 ,投入 LN2 内保存 ,升温解冻后 ,检测精子成活率。结果表明 ,DMSO处理浓度、预处理温度及时间和升温方式对超低温保存成活率均具有显著影响。其中 ,用 10 % DMSO在 LN2 面上 17cm预处理 6 min,采用 16~ 17℃流水不完全解冻 ,效果最好 ,超低温保存精子成活率可达 70 %。与新鲜精子相比 ,在 L N2 内保存一天的精子 ,授精能力没有明显变化。  相似文献

对COADS资料中1950-1992年太平洋4°×8°方区的海水表层温度及海面气温、气压、风速序列数据,进行了时间序列分析。分析结果表明:太平洋海表气温和水温年上升率分别为0.0063℃·a(-1)和0.0026℃·a(-1)。两者的变化趋势在赤道太平洋都有一个年上升率高值区;而在东海以北的西北太平洋广大海区,都有一个年下降率的低值区。西太平洋海面气压呈上升趋势,东太平洋则相反。气温和水温的升降区域分布特征与风速分量增强和减弱的变化趋势有关。文章还指出,中国和日本沿岸今后几十年海平面变化趋势的预测模式,应以太平洋或全球海平面上升趋势的预测为基础,加上本海区海平面的局地变化订正。  相似文献

Abstract. Spongaster tetras tetras Ehrenberg has long been considered by palaeontologists as a species indicative of warm (>21 C) sea-surface temperatures (SSTs) and tropical/subtropical conditions. However. a comparison of the Plio-Pleistocene record of S. t. tetras in the eastern equatorial Pacific (Ocean Drilling Program Hole 677A) with CaCO3, δ18O, and δ13C records reveals that S. t. tetras is most commonly present during periods of intense upwelling, often coinciding with isotopically identified glacial stages. when surface productivity and salinity are high, and SST is expected to be relatively low. Maximum S. t. tetras abundance (1.8% of radiolaria counted) occurred during a cool interglacial. when productivity and salinity were high, wind-driven upwelling intense, and SST relatively warmer than during glacial maxima. It appears that in the eastern equatorial Pacific upwelling system, SSTs are generally too cold (<21 C) for S. t. tetras to survive; however, S. t. tetras can tolerate (with populations <0.7%) cold SSTs if productivity and salinity are increased (due to upwelling), and flourishes (>0.7–> 1.8%) if this is coupled with relatively warm SSTs. From 1998 to 2003, we observed large fluctuations in the abundance and distribution of four pelagic predatory (piscivorous) fishes off northern Oregon and southern Washington, USA. Fluctuations in predatory fish species composition and abundance were strongly linked to the date of the spring transition and to ocean temperatures. Predatory fishes, forage fishes, and juvenile salmonids had distinct spatial distributions, with predators distributed primarily offshore and forage fish and salmonids onshore, but this varied depending on ocean conditions. We suggest that predatory and forage fish distributions respond to ocean temperatures, predator/prey interactions, and possibly turbidity. A shift in ocean conditions in 1999 decreased overall predator fish abundance in the Columbia River plume, particularly for Pacific hake. Marine survival of juvenile salmon started to increase in 1999, and forage fish densities increased in 2000, lagging by one year.  相似文献
