We present an ecophysiological model of the bivalve Cerastoderma edule that simulates individual growth and reproduction under ambient conditions in temperature and food availability in the Oosterschelde estuary, SW Netherlands. The model contains feedback loops in the uptake and metabolism of food and in the partitioning of carbon to the internal state variables: somatic tissue, storage, organic shell matrix and gametes. The model was calibrated for 24 parameters, based on random distributions of parameter values. This procedure includes an estimate of confidence intervals of the output variables. The simulated growth of shell length and animal wet and dry weight reflected the observed values of growth in the field for the period 1993 – 1997. The model is a tool for the integration of ecophysiological knowledge of this species and also for carrying-capacity studies of shellfish culture and for environmental management of populations in estuarine and coastal areas. 相似文献

Sea surface temperatures (SSTs) and annual mean air temperatures (MATs) are estimated for the last 200 years from glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (GDGTs) proxies in a marine sediment core from the Skagerrak, off southern Norway. The reconstructed values compare well with annual SSTs and summer air temperatures obtained from composite regional instrumental records. The results provide further confidence in the application of proxies based on GDGTs to estimate past temperatures. 相似文献

The neritid Smaragdia viridis represents the only known native marine mollusc that feeds on seagrass tissues in the European coasts, displaying a strong association with the seagrasses Cymodocea nodosa and Zostera marina in southern Spain. Seasonal dynamics, shell and radular morphology, growth and feeding of this gastropod have been studied in relation to each seagrass species for contrasting trends resulting from a different type of substrate and food source. In both seagrass species, stable populations of this gastropod occur at similar densities and displaying similar growth rates. Nevertheless shells of individuals from C. nodosa are narrower than those from Z. marina and some differences, possibly a consequence of increased wearing on C. nodosa, were noted amongst the radulae. In C. nodosa, a pre-ingestive selection for young epidermal tissues occurs as it was previously observed in Z. marina. The ingestion rate is higher in C. nodosa than in Z. marina but the absorption of ingested tissues is lower in the former. If both seagrasses are present, most individuals ingested preferentially Z. marina rather than C. nodosa, probably due to the lower digestibility of the epidermal tissues in the latter. Seagrass beds, especially those of Z. marina, are suffering a strong regression in southern Spain and the presence of stable populations of this neritid may be restricted to other declining seagrass species in the area. 相似文献

The hydro-climatic variability of the Colombian Andes associated with El Ni?o?CSouthern Oscillation (ENSO) is reviewed using records of rainfall, river discharges, soil moisture, and a vegetation index (NDVI) as a surrogate for evapotranspiration. Anomalies in the components of the surface water balance during both phases of ENSO are quantified in terms of their sign, timing, and magnitude. During El Ni?o (La Ni?a), the region experiences negative (positive) anomalies in rainfall, river discharges (average and extremes), soil moisture, and NDVI. ENSO??s effects are phase-locked to the seasonal cycle, being stronger during December?CFebruary, and weaker during March?CMay. Besides, rainfall and river discharges anomalies show that the ENSO signal exhibits a westerly wave-like propagation, being stronger (weaker) and earlier (later) over the western (eastern) Andes. Soil moisture anomalies are land-cover type dependant, but overall they are enhanced by ENSO, showing very low values during El Ni?o (mainly during dry seasons), but saturation values during La Ni?a. A suite of large-scale and regional mechanisms cooperating at the ocean?Catmosphere?Cland system are reviewed to explaining the identified hydro-climatic anomalies. This review contributes to an understanding of the hydro-climatic framework of a region identified as the most critical hotspot for biodiversity on Earth, and constitutes a wake-up call for scientists and policy-makers alike, to take actions and mobilize resources and minds to prevent the further destruction of the region??s valuable hydrologic and biodiversity resources and ecosystems. It also sheds lights towards the implementation of strategies and adaptation plans to coping with threats from global environmental change. 相似文献

In this paper, we present a probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) for mainland Spain that takes into account recent
new results in seismicity, seismic zoning, and strong ground attenuation not considered in the latest PSHA of the Spanish
Building Code. Those new input data have been obtained as a three-step project carried out in order to improve the existing
hazard map for mainland Spain. We have produced a new earthquake catalogue for the area, in which the earthquakes are given
in moment magnitude through specific deduced relationships for our territory based on intensity data (Mezcua et al. in Seismol
Res Lett 75:75–81, 2004). In addition, we included a new seismogenetic zoning based on the recent partial zoning studies performed by different authors.
Finally, as we have developed a new strong ground motion model for the area García Blanco (2009), it was considered in the hazard calculation together with other attenuations gathered from different authors using data
compatible with our region. With this new data, a logic tree process is defined to quantify the epistemic uncertainty related
to those parts of the process. A sensitivity test has been included in order to analyze the different models of ground motion
and seismotectonic zonation used in this work. Finally, after applying a weighting scheme, a mean hazard map for PGA, based
on rock type condition for 10% exceedance probability in 50 years, is presented, including 15th and 85th percentile hazard
maps. The main differences with the present official building code hazard map are analyzed. 相似文献

Considering the lack of site effect cartography in the Iberian Peninsula region to be related to the strong motion data, we present a site amplification factor map covering the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Steps leading to produce the map have included the classification of geological units from the 1:1,000,000 scale Geological Map of Spain into six site classes characterized on a seismic response basis, and the calculation, for every site class, of both short-period and mid-period amplification factors. In order to test the validity and applicability of the map, we have calculated the synthetic seismic intensity in the particular localities where several past earthquakes were felt, supposing a point source approximation. The synthetic intensities have been obtained with and without site amplification factors, resulting in two types of synthetic isoseismals maps that have been compared with the corresponding observed isoseismals. As the amplification factors obtained are only applicable to the linear domain, the synthetic intensities greater than VII are only illustrative. A main conclusion has been drawn about the fact that synthetic isoseismals with site amplification factor approach to the related observed isoseismals in a higher degree than synthetic isoseismals without site amplification factor. In addition, the resemblances between the synthetic isoseismals produced with site amplification factors and the corresponding observed isoseismals have been found to be more evident at shorter epicentral distances, provided that intensities are lower than VIII, and therefore, we remain in the linear domain. 相似文献

Long gamma-ray burst GRB 151027A was observed by all three detectors onboard the Swift spacecraft, and many more, including MAXI, Konus-Wind and Fermi GBM/LAT instruments. This revealed a complex structure of the prompt and afterglow emission, consisting of a double-peak gammaray prompt with a quiescent period and a HRF/SXF within the X-ray afterglow, together with multiple BB components seen within the time-resolved spectral analysis. These features, within the fireshell model, are interpreted as the manifestation of the same physical process viewed at different angles with respect to the HN ejecta. Here we present the time-resolved and time-integrated spectral analysis used to determine the energy of the e?e+ plasma Etot and the baryon load B. These quantities describe the dynamics of the fireshell up to the transparency point. We proceed with the light-curve simulation from which CBM density values and its inhomogeneities are deduced. We also investigate the properties of GRB 140206A, whose prompt emission exhibits a similar structure. 相似文献
